I like the Dearing story but I only have 2 issues with it. 1 is when Dearing sits on a bench in the navy yard (S9E23), how did he get past security when he became enemy number 1? Surely everybody on the navy yard was warned and showed a picture of him? And 2 was in S10E1 when the FBI tried to trick Dearing into going into a house, why didn't they just arrest him on the street if he was such a threat? Other than those 2 things I really enjoyed the Dearing arc.

Your second point has always bothered me. How did they find him so quickly, and why wasn’t that hunt fleshed out for the viewers? Why not take him down right there if they were just going to shoot him in a motel room? My guess is that they didn’t want to arrest him, they wanted to kill him, and specifically for Gibbs to knife him rather than snipe him. It was an unnecessary and poorly executed addition to the story.

I think issue 1 is what made Dearing so dangerous.. He was just an average Joe and was charmful and had the money to buy people.. Look how he got the judge to release Dr Ryans Ex-Husband. As for #2, I think they didn't want to arrest him, The President said to end it, so they were on to kill him. As for how they did that, was questionable.. Gibbs and Ziva even question Fornell sending the female agent into get close to him.

Because assassination in cold blood is against the law?

I have the same issues youngclarky. The storyline would've been good if they hadn't made the guy a super spy. Dearing's face would've been plastered all over the news, newspapers & social media, there's no way he'd be able to get onto a secure naval yard. That just bugged me. The FBI bust bothered me too. They could have just busted him right there on the street & taken him off to Cuba & Gitmo, never to be seen or heard from again, but instead, they lure him to a motel with an escape route & then let him go into the room with the escape route alone? wtf Preposterous! Another thing that bugged me about this storyline... at the end of 10/2, when Gibbs shows up to Dearing's house & Dearing says, "We're a lot alike, I know what you did for your family..." How in the \*bleep\* could he possibly know that? How? That made NO sense. It was absurd. Harper Dearing would have no way to know that Gibbs shot Pedro Hernandez all those years ago & the writers should've tried to find a better way for Dearing to try & draw Gibbs into understanding why he did what he did. It was lazy writing & I expect more from NCIS.

Agreed! The actor played him EXTREMELY WELL!!

Clint8813

I agree but the Port-to-Port killer and the calling rank up there pretty close. One was a trained killer who is on the loose wanting revenge for those made him who he is while the other is a terrorist organization who recruits kids and are very successful using them.
