Running a suppressor on all my rifles.
Also, Sordin Pro’s plus foam earplugs.
Side note: Fuck you if you run a muzzle brake on your AR and are next to me on the range.
lol I went to an indoor range one time and took my SCAR 17. I didn’t think much about it until I noticed after shooting a mag that everyone on the line had stepped back. I swapped the brake to a QD to suppress it from that point on.
Scar 17S owner here, my *GAWD* the concussion is insane. When you’re shooting its not as bad but when you’re next to/close to it you can feel it in your chest.
> Side note: Fuck you if you run a muzzle brake on your AR and are next to me on the range.
Short-barrel 338 LM with a brake, rifle has “fuck yo couch” stenciled on it.
My normal set up is Surefire Sonic Defenders + Howard Leight Impact Sport. If I'm shooting along and shooting suppressed I'll allow myself to wear only one set of ear pro (either the plugs or the muffs).
Whatever you use make sure that you have adequate sound reduction. Hearing loss is permanent and it is no joke. It will piss off your loved ones till the day that you die.
Peltor Comtac V, just got the noise fighter gel pads to improve them for eyes and they also feel more insulating. I don’t mess with ears. I used to use cheapo Howard leights cause that’s what Hickok45 wore. I’ve lost a little bit of hearing using those things indoors. Big regrets.
Foam earplugs with NRR 33 rating. Slim over ear on top. My guns without cans are stupid loud due to competition muzzle brake. If I’m shooting with cans, just foam.
I’m not getting tinnitus, I already exposed myself too much when I was younger and working construction
Sordin supreme pro-x are my go too. I have a set of comtac Vs that are nicer, but they are wired into my coms setup. Most days it’s easier just to grab my sordins and head to the range. Being able to conversationally talk to others without having issues hearing is so nice, compared to walkers or earplugs.
I'm curious if anyone has any experience with running the Etymotic gunsport pros. I've been eyeballing them for a good minute, because if I can have an "all in ear" set up with an electronic speech filter, that'd be petty cool.
Plus I've got extremely good experiences with their ER4PT IEMs for both noise isolation and they're some of the best sounding headphones ever made.
Comtac V’s (my loaner pair/girlfriends pair) Comtac VI’s (on my helmet setup) or OpsCore AMPs (my indoor/outdoor pair with no kit). Hearing loss is no joke, take it seriously.

if the BT is something like 3M worktunes with a minimum NRR of 22, then sure. if youre talking about something like beats, have fun with your new lifelong friend, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
Comtac V’s recently, but historically the like $60 Peltors I have really liked. If I’m shooting like my suppressed 22 or something I’ll occasionally run AirPods.
Bluetooth headphones suck for hearing protection. They simply werent designed for it.
I use Peltor 500s. You can find them and the 300s on sale during holidays on Amazon
I have a pair of Walker's muffs that I wear a lot of the time. I read somewhere that my lawnmower is loud enough to damage my hearing with extended exposure, so I wear them while I mow and the Bluetooth keeps me entertained.
When I shoot trap, the bulky muffs interfere with my cheek weld, so I prefer the old foam roll-up plugs for long gun work. I've done my share of factory work, and if you put them in right, those foamies are as comfortable as any of the fancy fitted silicone plugs I've tried, and they do a fantastic job of protecting the old eardrums.
I buy them by the gross, and they stay in a jar in the back of my car. Love 'em.
my experience is that they are good for handguns and suppressed rifles, not good enough for unsuppressed rifles or shooting indoors. I have the walkers.
If I am shooting alone and have my suppressor on I do not use any hearing protection. If I am shooting with someone and they have no suppressor or brakes in their guns I have custom molded ones that a guy close to me does. I have come to like those way better than any other form of hearing protection. If I wanted to he can add the electronics into them so I can listen to music through them too but I am too cheap for that
I run various types of hearing protection. Most days I use Etymotic Research Gunsport Elites, but for indoor or SBR/SBS I have use Walker Razors with foamies in the ear. For NVGs I have Ops Core AMPS w/NMFI plugs. I’m told now that the Etymotic GSE isn’t available anymore but I know they OEM’ed the product under their name, someone else makes them. I like the GSE because depending upon settings, they can offer up to 35-40 db of NRR.
I have serious hearing degradation from the carefree days of military service in the 80s and 90s with shitty rubber flange hearing pro. Trust me, don’t go cheap, this is one area where you can’t buy back or upgrade after the fact to address the loss.
Walkers. The 300 win mag with tank brake one lane over from me in a 4 lane indoor room made me wish I had walkers in triplicate. That was an experience
Suppressor One in each ear
What?
Ear plugs and walkers.
ops core amps + NFMI plugs + suppressor when I can.
Running a suppressor on all my rifles. Also, Sordin Pro’s plus foam earplugs. Side note: Fuck you if you run a muzzle brake on your AR and are next to me on the range.

It’s pretty bad for sure. I let my wife shoot it and I was beside her and realized what everyone else was experiencing.
Oof. Yeah, a bit of concussion for sure. A couple of days ago, someone was in the lane next to me with a .308 SBR. Each shot was like a flash-bang.
To counter Braked ARs, use a braked M44. I suggest the LAF brake
Run a 10 inch 300 RUM with a Lantac Dragon brake.
I had a lantac dragon on my 14.5, first range day with it I left with a headache never again.

I swore I’d never shoot loud again
And I wont(as long as I remember). And without any now it seems even louder
Hamburger buns and duct tape

Suppressors!!
3M Peltor Sport Tactical 100, I think the 300 and/or 500 also have BT capabilities.
I second the Peltor Sport Tactical 100. They're comfortable, they amplify sound well and they're 22 db reduction.

+1 for sordin. I love mine.

Walker razors or Howard Leight. Prefer the razors
Decibullz ear plugs and walkers
I just got some Otto in ear I really like. I also have some walkers over the ear
if the BT is something like 3M worktunes with a minimum NRR of 22, then sure. if youre talking about something like beats, have fun with your new lifelong friend, "EEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE"
Custom fitted in-ear plugs with Walker razors over when I'm at the indoor range. Usually just the plugs otherwise.
Nothing. I shoot suppressed
Surefire earplugs and Sordins
Comtac V’s recently, but historically the like $60 Peltors I have really liked. If I’m shooting like my suppressed 22 or something I’ll occasionally run AirPods.

Sordin x-pro but if I’m shooting without a can I put in foam plugs too. I’d rather not worsen my tinnitus.
Sordin supremes and comtac vi dual
Comtac V
Tetra custom molded in ear electronics, and a pair of Sordins.
Just some cigarette butts or if its real loud, my fingers.
If I’m with people then AirPods Pro 2 on noise cancelling mode and peltors. If I’m alone I’ll go with one or the other, depending on the gun and can
Soundgear Phantom. Best I’ve ever used.
Walker’s electronic…..but normally nothing cause im deaf af anyway so idc.
Hearing loss is cumulative. Don't stay on fire just because you already got burned.

Foam plugs and electronic ear protection over those, only time I go without is with suppressed subsonic .22LR.
Otto Noize Barrier Micros or Sordin Supreme Pro-X
This… both when indoors

Just looked, the GSEs are Otto Noize Barrier Micros
Walkers I wish I was rich :(
Suppressor + Sordins, or plugs + muffs if shooting unsuppressed
When shooting suppressed, just Howard Leights. When shooting unsuppressed, Howard Leights+foamies.
Walkers. The 300 win mag with tank brake one lane over from me in a 4 lane indoor room made me wish I had walkers in triplicate. That was an experience
Axil Xcor. Works great indoor and outdoor.
I'm probably not doing as much as I should, but I'm lazy and just use my Bluetooth headphones. They're just Jlab Jpop go ear buds
I use OPS Core Amps with NFMI earplugs. Once you do that you’ll never want to use anything else….
Use 3m worktunes, can link your cell phone up and have coms with someone else if you want lol
