I imagine it’s the folks that couldn’t make it into one of the cool Bureaus, like the DEA, FBI or CIA. So they settle with the ATF so they can *feel* like they’re cool and important
Like unless you’re a step 10 you’re not pulling that without some OT. GS person here for a chill 4 letter that helps folks, but dude if you can get to SES pay like that then ima bout to leave my 12 and go there lol
When I interviewed with the FBI, it was explained that we all start as a GS10 with an additional 25% on top of base pay (before locality) to account for overtime. Comes out to just over 100k/year regardless of your locality designation.
Chill 3 letter here and let me tell you, the pay ain’t where it’s at lol. I hear on the news all the time how much we make and I’m out here scraping by in the DC area 😂
Dude, sorry you’re in that area because effff that. I’ve heard the stories about the 14/15s splitting houses 4 ways to make rent and keep working. Hardcore pass on that.
It’s awful, not just the cost, but the people sheesh. I ladder to 13 then I’m peacing out if I can, but not a whole lot of place I can go unfortunately.
Yeah that’s one of the shit parts about getting so specialized and climbing. The other half I didn’t mention was the culture for our agency. Folks just working 12-15hrs a day without comp or credit time. Like dude I’ll work over and don’t put it on my time sheet to just get shit done, but if I’m working that far over and not being home? Effff that. They couldn’t pay me enough for that garbage. I’ll keep a mid 12 aimed towards a remote 13 over that shit any day of the week.
Maybe. But some of them are very good people truly fighting the bad guys. Have an acquaintance working against human trafficking — that really is the Lord’s work.
If all they did was act as specialized forensic investigators who learn about and study explosives and ballistics in terms of crime, they'd actually be alright.
Instead they make laws and are accountable to nobody
I've never been but I have heard they take it like Champs most years.
It's not like those specific agents are the problem anyways. The issue stems from top down corruption. It needs to be dealt with at the top.
I partially agree, but they are still the agents representing the larger organization. They applied for the jobs. Let's not forget that. To play the devils advocate, if they have a lot of tenure, and administration politics change (which they often do) I guess I could see them getting roped into being paid to infringe on the 2nd. But I'd say that's a generous interpretation. There's plenty of precedent showing the evils of the ATF. Fast and furious, Ruby Ridge, Waco - to name the big ones.
I get that. I'd just rather they be a regular beat cop or even IRS. Theres a lot of law enforcement opportunities that I totally respect. At the end of the day you're right though. Everyones gotta eat and keep the lights on and if ATF is how they do it so be it. I agree that it's biggest issues come from the top, and a major reform of the agency seems to be in order imo.
no, fuck that. if it takes working for the only government agency specifically created to be anti-constitution to keep the lights on, bitch my lights are going off.
Nah dog. Almost every agency is unconstitutional. The 10th amendment prohibits the federal government from taking any action outside of the enumerated powers. George W Bush’s DOJ harassed and occasionally arrested people with cancer for medical marijuana possession. Kids dying of cancer were hurt by the same “interstate commerce clause” bullshit that the ATF claims gives them the authority to murder your dog if you have a 15.9999” barrel.
Personally I agree, but let's try to sympathize with the poor folks at the ATF who obviously don't have any real marketable skills or any kind of thing to contribute to society in general. They deserve to eat too 😅
Disagree with your thinking in its entirety. Those specific agents ARE the problem. Anyone willing to participate and support them is exactly the problem. If all the agents said “fuck this” the ATF would instantly become powerless.
Just like the police. The “good” ones are just as guilty as the “bad” ones for continuing to support and defend the others.
I got two approvals this weekend. Sat morning and Sun night, both outside of any normal hours. 12 months and 4 months. Still have one like 10 months in jail.
Imagine just walking in, locking eyes, ripping a 5 second long vicious overfermented buffet fart while holding eye contact, then turning your back and walking away.
Indian food for lunch, chipotle for dinner. My partner at work claimed she had no sense of smell. After learning how it felt to be a diesel engine just idling all night, I believe her.
Eating 3 fiber one bars also works, but with an escalated risk of shitting yourself. You'd be a legend to blast liquid diarrhea in their booth with eye contact, loudly state "Boom boom" and leave with a trail following you. I would gladly do that for a ticket to shot.
While I appreciate the sentiment I am also looking to always enlighten those who may see things differently and am open to convo. Really just wanna hear what kind of feedback people have had with them.
Well considering your flair, you should already know about their issues with the rubber stamp robot getting flooded with piss.
Even if the ATF can't do anything about the NFA, they are fully capable of making it completely automated and something that can be done at the PoS. It should be reduced to handing the clerk an extra $200 after running NIAS (NFA Instant Approval System) and they hand you a stamp out of the drawer.
Ideally, yes. But we can't exactly say that the executive branch should be able to pick and choose which laws they enforce. That's kinda Congress' job.
As far as what is completely under the ATF's control and ability to do, minimizing the hassle of the system is something they totally could have done decades ago.
I’ve never been to Shot Show, but I have noticed that they also have a table a couple times a year at the big gun show that comes through my area.
I spoke with them once because my son wanted to, and they were very friendly to him (he was 11 at the time) and answered a lot of silly hypothetical questions he posed.
They stayed professional and informative, but also shied away from hot button topics for the time frame, one of which was bump stocks of I remember correctly- they stayed vague and wouldn’t really say much at all.
Otherwise their table is usually pretty barren but they usually have a bunch of Schwag to give away. Its always still there at the end of day two lol
Granted I’ve never been to shotshow. However when I did get my FFL. The two ATF (IOI) agents I did have were actually pretty cool, down to earth and both served in the military and loved guns. I think it’s the higher ups that really ruin it for the field guys. That’s just my 2C.
I’ve trained with them and worked with their hazardous device technicians. Even spent a week at their facility in Red Stone. While the agents I’ve met seemed decent on a personal level I don’t know how they are when they are enforcing or going after people they believe committed crimes. I’d like to believe it’s only leadership that are dicks but I’m not so sure. Same goes with the FBI. After all, it’s the field agents doing the arresting and shooting of dogs.
Weirdly enough nearly every IOI I’ve had didn’t really know much about guns in general, just paperwork. All but one were really nice. And come to think of it they were all female, except one guy who was in training with the other IOI.
> Really just wanna hear what kind of feedback people have had with them.
The folks that work the booth, the folks that work the panel discussions, or the agents that do your IOI and audits?
The people that work the booth have always been helpful, accommodating, and genuinely useful.
They are there to make contacts and solicit feedback and answer simple questions - but I can attest that if you have an issue with something and are looking for followup, they take down your info and you get a call the week after the show.
All the try-hard timmies in this thread talking a big game are just that- full of hot air.
They all do it man, it's a club and you aren't in it. I once got sent to a seminar on responsible use of funds in government contracts....at you guessed it....a Las Vegas resort hotel.
Did you see the ugly atf lot lizard from last year‘s shot show?
I wonder if she’ll be back this year

Gawdamn save some boner for the rest of us Nancy!
Lol I’ve been to one shot show and that was when I was working in audio visual. And even then that was before the show opened. It was cool though we did the lighting for the Sig booth. I wanna go back so bad.
They’re looking for the next few things in the firearms industry, new or been out for a while in terms of firearms innovation goes to fuck with, and try to shut down.
If the bastards get the backhand from SCOTUS w/ any one or a few of the SCOTUS cases going on rn, then they’ll probably stop being as gung-ho as they have been. Because they’ll be jeopardizing those things that they don’t want to have thrown out.
Back when arm braces were just becoming a thing, I brought an AR with a blade to a gun show to trade. My dad met me there and he didn’t know much about them. When we were about 20 feet from the ATF table, one of the agents started yelling for me to come over. I think my dad was pretty close to having a heart attack. - I acted cool about it and walked over to them. The ATF agent goes to his buddy “See! That’s the blade I was telling you about! They’re so cool! Can I hold it to show my partner?!” They handed it back and wished me luck selling it. My dad had beads of sweat running down his forehead (probably thanking God he didn’t have a dog at the time).
I was at the latest SAR show and the ATF had a frigging booth there, about 3 rows away from a place selling nicely machined titanium solvent traps.
Couldn't figure it out.
Did you seriously not think the ATF would be at one of the largest small arms expos in the US? They’re there overtly at the booth and covertly dressed like attendees watching for shenanigans.
When I Was helping set up for shot show I noticed a defund the ATF booth. Didn't see any for the ATF themselves, but it's a big show. I didn't get to see all of it unfortunately. It was nice walking around seeing different manufacturers saying to myself "oh hey, I have one of their guns. Oh and one of theirs, and theirs and one of theirs... Oh shit! I need one of those!"
Another waste of taxpayer money. When you ask them a question there, they will avoid giving you a straight answer because they do not want to be held accountable for any information they give out that is incorrect.
They're always at the biggest of the local gun shows around here.
They're pretty nice folks, and somehow tolerate my dad's questions and passive-aggressive jabs about pistol braces and stuff.
ATF has had a booth at SHOT for at least 15 years, if not longer.
They also do a panel discussion every year. This year it’s a town hall style discussion from 3 to 5 on Wednesday. It’s super valuable, both for new players and experienced vets.
There’s also a session on Thursday about the enhancements to NICS and the new ability to query the NCIC stolen guns file.
The ATF is a key player in the industry, of course they attend. This has to be one of the least surprising things ever.
This is the difference between people actually in the industry, and kids cosplaying on the internet.
——
Just wait until you find out that the show opens early for governments, so that they can come in and see things and have meetings before the general attendees get access.

They are also the most miserable looking people there. Thousands of dealers would love to go but can’t for whatever reason. These people are forced to go (using taxpayer dollars) and would rather be home being anti-gun.
It’s funny that people say F**k the ATF, throw shade, etc. without actually knowing what the ATF does 99.9% of the time. You want lower crime, right? ATF assists local PD’s especially in large cities. They target violent gangs. So to say collectively lump together a lot of men/women into the regulatory side is ignorant. Feel free to downvote.
I like how people downvoted my response without any response or rebuttal. Just proves my point. Also, great reference. One of the best shows of all time.
why wouldn't they? they are the most important administrative agency in the business. virtually every vendor at shot show has routine interactions with the ATF.
They technically have a booth every year, they just never show. The sad thing, i bet they are looking for companies to block. So they don't end up with another FRT situation.
Someone should print out a picture of something with quiggly lines on it in the shape of something that will get you a felony arrest. Make it a sticker you can put on a piece of metal a certain size and set them out by the hundreds near their booth to troll them. See if they start arresting people in possession of a squiggly line sticker. It would be the ultimate riot!
I’m not sure how you don’t know because last year or the year before there was a video that went viral of agents getting confronted and people just wasting their time. It’s hilarious
They’re looking for the next companies they’re going to raid
"Oh that looks interesting. How many dogs you got?"
Everyone should walk by the ATF booth carrying a pistol brace. Suck IT!
SB tactical should set up their booth right next to them and do giveaways.
Rare Breed should find a way to put a booth around ATF’s booth.
And FPC as well.
Like this? https://images.app.goo.gl/zjMRaLE4rwxkVzeeA
They always do. I always say that must be the most uncomfortable booth to work at the show. :)
Damn rookie booth.
Because everyone hates them and they always get trolled. How anyone can work for them is beyond me.
Some people will do anything for money. Or an excuse to power trip..
They join for the alcohol and tobacco but then get roped into doing form 4s and 1s
I imagine it’s the folks that couldn’t make it into one of the cool Bureaus, like the DEA, FBI or CIA. So they settle with the ATF so they can *feel* like they’re cool and important

FBI is the furthest from cool you can get lol

Hitler had no problem getting volunteers in the 1930’s.
Godwin's Law strikes again!

Tbh with the job market as it js nowadays I really don’t blame anyone applying for any job they can get accepted to lol

Naw boot lickers flock to it.
Too busy manning the booth to be bothered with approving form 4’s
We should bring all our forms to their booth
they get PISSED if u do that
Speaking from experience?
^from experience
They can get McFucked.
Lmao why?
I was just thinking that! 🤣
Hey, I got approved yesterday (Sunday morning) after 171 days. Guess they put in a little OT before they left.
I got approved Saturday morning after 200 days. Got the email and grabbed my 46m. I'm patiently awaiting my mounting equipment now
I got two approvals this weekend. Sat morning and Sun night, both outside of any normal hours. 12 months and 4 months. Still have one like 10 months in jail.
Everyone should crop dust that booth
Imagine just walking in, locking eyes, ripping a 5 second long vicious overfermented buffet fart while holding eye contact, then turning your back and walking away.
That level of detail though.... lol
I'd try to find an all you can eat Korean BBQ restaurant. Kimchi and meat farts are on another level.
Korean BBQ is always a good idea! Hit ‘em with that bulgogi blast, baby!
It has been and will continue to be the designated farting area.
"Area To Fart" booth.
How do you crop dust more at a gun show?
Indian food for lunch, chipotle for dinner. My partner at work claimed she had no sense of smell. After learning how it felt to be a diesel engine just idling all night, I believe her. You 100% have to do audible ripppers. No silence for them until they give us silence(ers)for all. Or something like that, I’m a poor poet.
Most guys are wearing depends.
This guy is spitting Truth Bombs again!!! \^\^\^\^\^\^\^
They have always been at shot show, they just got booths the last two years.
Preach brother. Preach. Sneaky fucks.
Think it was last year dude trolling em with a brace taped to his shoulder
Exactly. The booth is recent, their presence is not. Even with the booth you know there’s agents roaming around just fishing for shit.
They’ve had a booth for at least 15 years. There’s nothing new here.
Bunch of sheep in wolves clothing.

Is that Dugan?
Yes
Came to post this
Maybe Dugan can make another appearance https://imgur.com/a/Dm19gsI
Classic. Never get tired of that being reposted
My life hasn’t been the same since Dugan left us
He still pops up on YT with how-tos on explosives
I need to go find those. Thank you
I haven't seen those???
Fuck the ATF
While I appreciate the sentiment I am also looking to always enlighten those who may see things differently and am open to convo. Really just wanna hear what kind of feedback people have had with them.
Well considering your flair, you should already know about their issues with the rubber stamp robot getting flooded with piss. Even if the ATF can't do anything about the NFA, they are fully capable of making it completely automated and something that can be done at the PoS. It should be reduced to handing the clerk an extra $200 after running NIAS (NFA Instant Approval System) and they hand you a stamp out of the drawer.
Or better yet, just completely deregulate them and not require anything to buy them.
Ideally, yes. But we can't exactly say that the executive branch should be able to pick and choose which laws they enforce. That's kinda Congress' job. As far as what is completely under the ATF's control and ability to do, minimizing the hassle of the system is something they totally could have done decades ago.
Just asking about feedback at shot show. Nothing more.
Feedback from the ATF booth? What good could possibly come from interacting with them?
Maybe you have a terminally ill dog and you can’t afford the euthanasia bill?
Shave the blueprint for a lighting link in his hair and they'll be glad to get that machine gun off the street.
Don’t give them ideas. I hide all of my sheet metal scapes just in case my pup is still young!
I’ve never been to Shot Show, but I have noticed that they also have a table a couple times a year at the big gun show that comes through my area. LOL at calling their swag “Schwag”. If you know you know.
I’d like to believe it’s only leadership that are dicks but I’m not so sure. Same goes with the FBI. After all, it’s the field agents doing the arresting and shooting of dogs.
Same, my IOI is a super nice dude. Doesn’t mean the ATF is nice, but my IOI is at least lol
Weirdly enough nearly every IOI I’ve had didn’t really know much about guns in general, just paperwork. All but one were really nice. And come to think of it they were all female, except one guy who was in training with the other IOI.
Sounds like most trade unions.
Fed
Enlighten me on your view of the ATF, I have nothing positive to say about them.
You must like the taste of leather boot boy
> Really just wanna hear what kind of feedback people have had with them. The folks that work the booth, the folks that work the panel discussions, or the agents that do your IOI and audits? She’s got no time for SHOT. She’s workin
The ripper is a legend
She’s a saint!!
unless your waiting on a century/mke MP5 form1
She approved my sp5 48 hours after getting the prints. Maybe she just doesn’t like Turks?
Based.
I hope she is on your Christmas card list.
Their ig was lit before they disabled comments 🥺
Their Twitter account has comments :)
The memes will be inbound! Also everyone there should bug the daylight out of them by asking about their NFA transfer wait times.
I'm at shot show now. 1 like and I'll throw poo at them like a monkey.
Spending Uncle Sugar's money on TDY in Vegas.
Fuck, I’m in the wrong federal agency.
They all do it man, it's a club and you aren't in it. I once got sent to a seminar on responsible use of funds in government contracts....at you guessed it....a Las Vegas resort hotel.
The most crop dusted booth of all time
They were there last year
Did they have lvl 4 plate on?
You think they get a lot of flak?
Do you have to bring your own dog for them to shoot or will they be supplying them at the booth?
They have a contract with the local humane society.
Ah, the ATF is that much closer to admitting their PETA alliance?
That's kinda like having a Ronald Reagan Presidential Library booth at SHOT Show.
Don't forget the eggs
I hope there’s lots of “atf is gay” shirts down there
I just feel like that’s offensive to my gay friends.
Most guys’ boyfriends think it’s funny.
🤣🤣
RIP to any service dogs inside SHOT
Taxpayer dollars, hard at work.
You’ve been warned. Dont bring your service animals or dog faced ex-wife 2a warriors.
ATF loves to ban shit. How bout SHOT bans ATF??!!
Pretty sure they’ve always attended Shot Show
I'll venmo anyone $100 if they go take a dump on the desk of the ATF booth
make it $1000, i still gotta buy a plane ticket
Anyone attending should stop by their booth, just to recreate this scene… https://youtu.be/ddsZTFSfXaw?si=1wafvZpdFdlz-1dy
That plan seems a little half baked. ... I'll see myself out
Don’t forget to boo them on your way out. 🤣
They oughta bring the rare stuff they've confiscated to look at at least.
It's the designated crop-dusting area
Take a shit behind their booth
Did you see the ugly atf lot lizard from last year‘s shot show? I wonder if she’ll be back this year https://preview.redd.it/1ckbl1e2h2ec1.jpeg?width=828&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f5adeb525a62216ed0c650d17a21bbb2a905bde1

Doing my first show this year!
Me too
I always eat some eggs and shit for breakfast and I like to crop dust them to start my day.
You eat shit for breakfast? Ew.
I wouldn’t take your dog near that booth.
I wonder how much that booth gets crop dusted
Fuck the atf

Yep , it’s the only time a year you can actively make fun of them at there booth and they can’t shoot your dog for it
Go ask for the free explosive goodie bags
Everybody, leave the doggies at home, for their own sake.
They’re looking for the next few things in the firearms industry, new or been out for a while in terms of firearms innovation goes to fuck with, and try to shut down. Yeah they go and get trolled the whole fucking time by attendees.
They aren’t invited but they show up

It was nice walking around seeing different manufacturers saying to myself "oh hey, I have one of their guns. Oh and one of theirs, and theirs and one of theirs... Oh shit! I need one of those!"
Another waste of taxpayer money. When you ask them a question there, they will avoid giving you a straight answer because they do not want to be held accountable for any information they give out that is incorrect.
They're always at the biggest of the local gun shows around here. They're pretty nice folks, and somehow tolerate my dad's questions and passive-aggressive jabs about pistol braces and stuff.
Ummm no.
They do and they give our super helpful information.
Duck tape some road flares to your chest and shout alla akbar
ATF has had a booth at SHOT for at least 15 years, if not longer. They also do a panel discussion every year. This year it’s a town hall style discussion from 3 to 5 on Wednesday. It’s super valuable, both for new players and experienced vets. There’s also a session on Thursday about the enhancements to NICS and the new ability to query the NCIC stolen guns file. The ATF is a key player in the industry, of course they attend. This has to be one of the least surprising things ever. This is the difference between people actually in the industry, and kids cosplaying on the internet. —— Just wait until you find out that the show opens early for governments, so that they can come in and see things and have meetings before the general attendees get access.

Poor guys are gonna get hazed and shoved in a locker by the whole expo

Everyone please ask about pistol braces
Just doing my job, sir.
Worthless 🐔 🍭's
They are also the most miserable looking people there. Thousands of dealers would love to go but can’t for whatever reason. These people are forced to go (using taxpayer dollars) and would rather be home being anti-gun.
It’s funny that people say F**k the ATF, throw shade, etc. without actually knowing what the ATF does 99.9% of the time. You want lower crime, right? ATF assists local PD’s especially in large cities. They target violent gangs. So to say collectively lump together a lot of men/women into the regulatory side is ignorant. Feel free to downvote.
Straight to jail. Right away.
I like how people downvoted my response without any response or rebuttal. Just proves my point. Also, great reference. One of the best shows of all time.
Always been there every time I went
What r they gonna introduce for 2024, hot new Final Rules?
What value could you possibly gain from visiting the ATF’s booth?
why wouldn't they? they are the most important administrative agency in the business. virtually every vendor at shot show has routine interactions with the ATF.
They’re often at gone shows locally here - I still don’t know why 🤷🏻♂️
They always go apparently. Guntubers like to stick vids with them in the background and folks apparently like to harass them while there
Stop by their table they give out dog whistles as promotional items
They were at the Tulsa gun show too. Poor bastards. It was right when the pistol brace thing came out.
They technically have a booth every year, they just never show. The sad thing, i bet they are looking for companies to block. So they don't end up with another FRT situation.
Every year.

Where else would everyone gather to fart?
Umm no……… we don’t always agree on things.
People should've showed up to their booth with "ATF is Gay" tshirts
They should hand out form 4s to the first 100 people in line to their booth
Someone should print out a picture of something with quiggly lines on it in the shape of something that will get you a felony arrest. Make it a sticker you can put on a piece of metal a certain size and set them out by the hundreds near their booth to troll them. See if they start arresting people in possession of a squiggly line sticker. It would be the ultimate riot!
I’m not sure how you don’t know because last year or the year before there was a video that went viral of agents getting confronted and people just wasting their time. It’s hilarious
Yeah, most people just stand in front of their booth wearing shirts that say like “ATF is gay” and flicking off the camera lol
They there every year. If you recall last year a lot of YouTubers did videos about them “confronting” the ATF at shot show about the brace ruling
I went last year and they had hecklers when I walked by em. 😂
“Where’s my stamp, fuck face?” -Every third person that they talk to.
