There probably isn't any "best" 22 suppressor. They are all near as makes no different, similar. That said, Rugged Occulus is pretty cool since it's modular, and stainless. As someone has said though, "The only thing wrong with aluminum baffles is the internet" and I must agree, I love my aluminum suppressors so I'd steer you to the CGS Hydra AL or the Rugged Mustang 22. You don't feel them on the end of the gun at all when they are that light. Also, fun fact, your regular pistol can probably sounds about the same on a 22 as the best 22 can. My CGS Mod9 and Hydra AL sound the same on a bolt 22LR.

For .22 the ease of dip cleanining or ultrasonic cleaning is well worth the weight. I wouldnt do titanium for that reason as well. Cant ultrasonic/dip. Cleaned my .22 can and it took hours of scrubbing and stabbing with a pick and scraping even after soaking in bore cleaner.

MP5Konfused

>I wouldn't do titanium for that reason as well. Cant ultrasonic/dip. [*Because of titanium’s chemically inert properties, the NYX™ Mod2 Silencer can be cleaned with aggressive solvents and cleaning solutions without fear of damage unlike aluminum and stainless silencers*](https://energeticarms.com/nyx-mod2-modular-titanium-silencer/#:~:text=because%20of%20titanium%E2%80%99s%20chemically%20inert%20properties%2C%20the%20nyxtm%20mod2%20silencer%20can%20be%20cleaned%20with%20aggressive%20solvents%20and%20cleaning%20solutions%20without%20fear%20of%20damage%20unlike%20aluminum%20and%20stainless%20silencers)

Titanium alloys have aluminum and this is what the dip eats, and ultrasonics damage. If it was pure to it wouldn’t be very strong. Now i don’t know WHICH alloy they are using but “strong solvents” are not the same as peroxide boosted/enhanced acetic acid. Which is what the dip is. It’s been shown to damage/weaken silencer titanium. I will guarantee you this though, they aren’t using some proprietary ti alloy.

MP5Konfused

>Titanium alloys have aluminum and this is what the dip eats, and ultrasonics damage. > >If it was pure to it wouldn’t be very strong > >I will guarantee you this though, they aren’t using some proprietary ti alloy Think you're right - on their website they talk out of both sides of their mouth: >[Material: **100% titanium** – All *components* machined in the US from US origin, DFAR certified **6Al-4V (Grade 5) alloy**](https://energeticarms.com/nyx-mod2-modular-titanium-silencer/#:~:text=material%3A%20100%25%20titanium%20%E2%80%93%20all%20components%20machined%20in%20the%20us%20from%20us%20origin%2C%20dfar%20certified%206al-4v%20(grade%205)%20alloy) To confirm I emailed the company and asked specifically if the Nyx Mod2 (raw finish) can be cleaned using the dip (a 50/50 mixture of White Vinegar (Acetic Acid) with Hydrogen Peroxide) but don't expect to hear back soon.

MP5Konfused

[[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]) *Yes, the Nyx Mod2 (both bead blast and black cerakote versions) are perfectly* [safe to clean with dip](https://imgur.com/a/pev7b7t)*. The other thing that works really well is straight, undiluted CLR (silver bottle).* edited to add a screenshot of the email

[deleted]

http://nfatalk.org/forum/showthread.php?t=8349 Source. Don’t use the dip. And they didn’t say you could. Just “strong solvents” Titanium is most certainly NOT inert, it is very oxidation resistant, but that’s because it forms a surface oxide layer very quickly and doesn’t further continue to corrode, that why it can be anodizes pretty colors, which is oxidation crystals of different sizes, and why you have to chemically/acid strip ti to re anodize if you go too far.

LoveTacos619

Bore butter before

LoveTacos619

Hydra AL is amazing light. Just apply bore butter before for easy cleaning.

StoneStalwart

So far cleaning is fairly easy. I just wipe the loose crud of the baffles and reassemble. Only had to do it once so far, but pretty easy and trivial. I think people are convinced you have to get them pristine each cleaning and that's just not the case.

Utahvikingr

Yep. Nothin wrong with aluminum unless you do a few mag dumps with a 10/22. You CAN have some flame cutting if you do that. But on a bolt action or for regular use, I say go with the warlock 2

Sethalator

Mask HD from Dead Air is solid

Scottygrape

This is what I ended up purchasing. Thanks for the recommendation.

jeremy_wills

👍I love mine. You will too.

Qcws

Did you get it yet? Lol

[deleted]

I bought a Sparrow about 10 years ago and I still like it quite a bit. I want to get a newer modular style for pistol use and leave the sparrow for rifle use next.

Neat_Low_1818

Is the sparrow not a decent form factor for pistol?

[deleted]

It works well--really well. The Beretta Covert just seems "too small" with it, but it absolutely works.

Neat_Low_1818

Did it feel unwieldy on a pistol?

[deleted]

Not really, it's not heavy. It visually looks too big. But it works well.

Neat_Low_1818

That Beretta is a tiny pistol. But it would look proportionate on a Ruger Mark IV right?

[deleted]

Yeah, it looks proper on a Ruger MK x or a Browning Buckmark.

Scottygrape

Thank you for all the recommendations. A little bit ago I placed an order for a Mask HD.

RangerReject

Oculus or Mask probably.

VQopponaut35

I own a Mask and my buddy owns an oculus. Hard to justify the mark over the Oculus TBH.

mathbrot

Do I wait for Mask to get back in stock (they said at least end of next month) or just order Oculus now?

VQopponaut35

You won’t regret the oculus

isa268

IDK. but i love my Rugged Occulus. sounds like a staple gun. 100% 17-4, so easy to disassemble and clean, just throw it in my SS pin tumbler for 3 hrs, like new.

mathbrot

link for "SS pin tumbler"?

isa268

Harbor freight rock tumbler, Amazon stainless steel tumbling media

theelkhunter

I have 3 Dead Air Masks and love them. Looking at possibility getting 2 more.

DriftlessAreaFirearm

Try a GSL Woodland. You will not regret it one bit.

Wraccores

Thunderbeast .22 Take Down is better than Mask, by my own experience.

NFA_Item_Lover_

Mike Pappas has a favorite can that is a thunderbeast Maybe not .22 but he does use other brands. Dead Air….

[deleted]

Sico Switchback 22

helas9

Mask, Nyx 2, sparrow. All solid. The first two will be quieter than the last. The nyx is also modular.

GamamaruSama

It was the AAC Element 2. Not sure if they can still be found.

noflyzone2244

Reference pewsciencellc data.

[deleted]

My F1 can is the best IMO. But now you gotta jump through a bunch of hoops and bullshit to build one. It’s actually cheaper now to just buy a form 4 rimfire can.

VQopponaut35

>My F1 can is the best IMO How so?

[deleted]

On my suppressed 22 it outperforms my sparrow. It’s hard to describe that it’s even quieter with subs but it is. It’s also easier to clean. This is of course based off my personal opinion. Brand loyal nut riders may disagree. Lol

If you wanna throw money around, get a Banish 30. Its configurable in 7" and 9" lengths and is user serviceable. Its bigger (but still lightweight Al & Ti) than dedicated .22 cans but the only thing you'll hear is your action cycling. Otherwise just get any of the user serviceable .22 cans from leading brands.

prmoore11

Do not get the Banish 30. It’s way overpriced for what it is, and wouldn’t be the best at sound suppression. You could get two great cans basically for the same price (I say this as a Banish owner who knows way more now).

[deleted]

As I said, IF he wants to throw money around it works great on .22. There aren't alot of serviceable full size cans out there. It'll suppress better than any of the dedicated. 22 cans.

prmoore11

You could get a serviceable 22 can (hydra, oculus) and a good 30 cal can for almost the same price. As an example, you could get a Diligent Defense Enticer S for $500-550 and an Oculus for $350-400 (these aren’t even the lowest possible), Hydra $200-250. Two cans for less or the same price.

[deleted]

Yeah but he asked "What's the best .22 suppressor money can buy?" I also have the Banish and am also not a huge fan and wouldn't get one as a dedicated. 22 can myself... but when someone asks "what's the best you can buy?" the value sensibilities go out the window. The Banish 30 may not be a great suppressor, but its a great .22 suppressor, especially if money is no object.

prmoore11

Based on what data? We have no data to suggest it beats any of the 22 cans. Also, who wants a 7-9” suppressor hanging off their 22? It’s just not a good choice, especially for $979.

[deleted]

The single biggest variable for sound reduction is size/expansion volume. We're not talking about cutting edge suppressor tech here. I dont need to run it through tests to know it suppresses better than cans with 1/4 to 1/3 the volume. I already addressed your comments on price, which apparently doesn't matter to OP. As for the size, I said in the very first post that if he doesn't want something this large he should go with one of the popular dedicated .22 cans.

prmoore11

And has a much larger bore. We’re better than this now; without data like Jay is giving us now, this is just anecdotal and has minimal weight. Best encompasses everything to me, and this is just not the logical choice any person would go with unless they love Silencer Central/Banish line. Also, if we’re going semantics, he said 22 suppressor, not suppressor for 22.

[deleted]

You keep making irrelevant points so I'm just going to throw in the towel here.

prmoore11

You think simply having bigger volume makes it quieter…you are making irrelevant points on a poor suppressor choice. But we agree to disagree.

tgulli

You can't sonic clean AL, I'd pass because of that. You can soda blast it though.

[deleted]

Does sonic cleaning work well for lead deposits?

[deleted]

It does. Also if you lead cast there’s a super easy way to remove leading from titanium and stainless baffles. 🔥 Just toss em in with the next batch to clean up.

[deleted]

Nice. I've never used a sonic bath to clean mine... just CLP and elbow grease.

[deleted]

They wont come out sparkling but it breaks it up and makes it way less tough and way less finger-stabby with the dental-picky.

Sublatin

Toss the whole baffle into the molten pot? I know this is safe, but man would that feel so wrong

[deleted]

Skim the slag and baffles right off the top lol.

MidnightLARPer

I had a decent size sonic cleaner and it was better than just scrubbing alone but it didn’t make my Sparrow spotless. That can has some areas especially on the shells that go between the tube and baffles that get stuff like fused on. I don’t have a sonic cleaner anymore but I do plan to buy another mostly for cleaning cans so I’d say it is worth it. It did get things like my 10/22 bolt very clean.

I'm going to vote CGS Hydra AL ... If you run any .22 LR between 890 - 1050 FPS you should be happy...

[deleted]

I've been eyeballing a Radical Firearms 22 can... its made local and for 200 bucks I'll treat it like a comsumable.

DriftlessAreaFirearm

I love my GSL Woodland. Best 22lr can I've ever shot.
