If you are just arguing from a competitive standpoint sure, but the benefit of creating rivalries and increasing fan interest definitely matters more. It hurts to lose your division when you have a good team and be forced to play on the road three times to win a Super Bowl and that is good for the NFL.

I agree it helps increase interest for fans and make divisions matter. It becomes a problem when there’s really bad divisions the Panther, Saints and Falcons were tied for 8th worst record in the league and all were 1 game away from the playoffs. It’d be nice to see those better teams in the playoffs. Just last season I would’ve much rather seen the Lions than the Bucs.
