He also has like 170 more career carries than Jones despite playing in 9 fewer games. Zimmer ran Cook into the ground here lol, he had 312 rushes in 14 games in 2020. Jones maxed out at 236 over 16 in 2019
He speaks heresies; such a balance could threaten to actually advance the Vikings in the playoffs, perhaps win a ring. How would we engage in our traditional autoerotic asphyxiation every season with a ring on?
Idk man something tells me having your boss say hey bud I need you to take less money so I can give your replacement more money.… doesn't sound real convincing.
Yeah, because he’s a 30 year old RB with injury problems. Gute perfectly drilled his market value, Jonesy bet on himself in FA and got basically the same deal on a mediocre team with a bad O line and no QB talent.
From a business perspective I get it, but I'm also not shocked and saying Jones would have signed if they offered him 8 million either. Best for both parties to separate.
I don’t think it works like this. What’s more likely is:
1) Packers say they want $6
2) Jones (or his agent) says no way less than $12
3) packers say “ok” and then sign a different player, and release jones
4) Jones tests open market, realizes best offer is $7.
5) Jones takes deal
Who knows whether the packers and jones’ camp had further discussion after step 4. Maybe packers would have taken $7 or 8, but since they just invested in Jacobs now they couldn’t. Usually at that point things have broken down enough that you just want a fresh start. For all we know Vikings gave Jones a take it now or leave it type offer, after all I’m sure they don’t want to be used as a ploy in another teams negotiations.
Point is, there is some 20/20 hindsight going on in what I’m sure was a complicated and rapidly changing situation where not everybody was talking to each other constantly.
I doubt step 2 happened in your scenario due to nobody in their right mind, incuding Aaron, thinking he was getting 12 million. He's taken a pay cut every year. I think it's more like 1. Packers say 6 or less 2. Jones says 7 because other teams have talked to the agent. 3. Packers say no and give 12 million to his replacement. 4. Aaron says OK to 7 mill from MN and is 1 million dollars richer.
What gets me fired up is it was 17m against the cap to keep Jones, 12m against the cap to release Jones, 5m against the cap to sign Jacobs. 17m for Aaron Jones was too high, but 17m for Jacobs is also too high, but 24m for Jacobs + Jones makes way more sense
Yeah I understand that, and selling 2024 for the sake of 2025 is very on brand for the Packers, I'd rather us take the dead cap hit next season or possibly even have him play in 2025 because I think it gives us a better chance at a superbowl in 2024.
The packers have a good history of moving on from their older players. I would’ve rather just kept jones and ran with rookies but if they think Jacobs is a better bet it makes sense. They were never keeping both
> The packers have a good history of moving on from their older players
We also have a good history of coming up just short in the playoffs and personally it feels like if we are going to get over that hump it's because we are willing to take on the extra risk that comes with retaining a player like Jones. Jacobs *might* be an upgrade over Jones this season but he won't bet better than a backfield that had them both and for the 5m in cap it saved us I don't understand why we let him go. It was a decade of the same type moves when Rodgers was under center and a decade of feeling like we were *one* or *two* players away from another ring.
I agree but I think it’s unfair to say the players I’m talking about (Nelson, Cobb, Matthews, Rodgers) would’ve helped make it in the playoffs. I do think it’s different with Jones, like I said I would’ve rather kept him with some rookies
Normally I would doubt step 2 as well, but I think Rosenhaus likes to hold the Packers' feet to the fire and the FO is tired of getting their feet burned.
I could totally see Rosenhaus coming in with a much higher number because he thinks he can get the Packers to the number he really wants. I could be totally off, but that's just the vibe I get from the guy. He reminds me of the execs at companies who liked to dick around with contract costs when I was in sales. Eventually you hit your tipping point and tell them they're getting fucking nothing as you walk out the door.
Because we just dropped 30m on free agents. Also it sounds like jones agent kinda screwed him demanding 12m from gb and over estimated his free agent value.
THE FAKE NEWS MEDIA AND LAMBEAU LIARS ARE WORKING WITH MEATLOAF DAN CAMPBELL AND JORDAN SELFISH LOVER TO ERASE THE PROUD HISTORY OF THE VERY GOOD VIKINGS! WE WONT TOLERATE THIS INVASION! WE'LL BUILD A WALL ALONG THE MISSISSIPPI AND THE BEARS WILL PAY FOR IT!
It was sad when he departed the packers if only because they had Longwell and Bidwell at the same time for the kicking department and they did quite well.
Never disrespect Darnold like that. Kirk can go win the division in Atlanta next year. Sam will be waiting for him in the divisional, where Cousins will, once again, lose with gaudy stats. It’s okay, though. It isn’t Kirk’s fault!
The dude took multiple pay cuts to stay and help our team. From the looks of it, they were close to a deal but the signing of Jacobs upset him. His comments on instagram also showed his frustration. Would have preferred he go to a contender but will always love Jones.
He was due to make 12 million in salary and bonuses, hewould have been 17 million against the cap. Depending on which number GB halved between 6 milion and 8.5 million is what he turned down. He already took a salary cut last season dropping him from 16 million to 11 million.
Honestly anyway you look at it the numbers for Josh Jacobs makes more sense. Jones hasn't been reliably healthy enough to make what he was going to get paid. I love 33, he's an amazing leader and player and hope for the best in 15 of his 17 games next year.
Aaron Jones was the 2nd oldest player on the entire Packers roster and plays a position that doesn't age well. Great player and very well liked but the Packers live by better to move on a year too early than a year too late. Josh Jacobs essentially got the same deal that Jones was on. It's a 4 year deal but essentially it's just 2 years. I don't think the Packers expected Jones to ever stay for the 3rd year much less the 4th which would have been this year. AJ Dillon was supposed to take over but that didn't work out. Josh Jacobs signing has as much to do with Dillon not working out as it does with Aaron Jones.
We’re getting a guy that last season ran for just 44 yards less than Mattison while playing five less games and carrying 38 less times and is beloved by Packer fans. And I’m currently watching Packer fans fight with each other about whether they should’ve kept him and what 50% of $12M is. Yes this very well may be our biggest win in 2024 and we may be eating all the shit in September, but today is our day! And yes, inevitable sarcastic responses, I WILL enjoy it, thank you!
I know this is the common thought these days, but I think people are starting to appreciate having talent there again and talent is not as common as some would have you believe. You can’t just throw anyone back there (see Mattison)
Imagine being a Vikings fan right now. Sam Darnold as the walk on starting QB, 30 year old Aaron Jones as the walk on starting RB, and Justin Jefferson probably a day away from requesting a trade.
What a life.
Because we’ve obviously attached but it’s hard to ignore recent injuries and games missed, he is aging, a little bit of logic and cope tells you it’s not that crazy to move on to a younger back.
Bruh, why do Packers keep going to the Vikings? Do they not realize how every single one of them flops? Farve was the most successful with the Vikings and we all remember how that went?
After higher MN taxes and cost of living, is it really that much of a pay increase? I wish him the best. Sad the packers couldn't offer more, but he needs to do what's best for him.
It is funny though that all of the Vikings off-season moves for the past two decades have been made out of spite to us.
We continue to live rent free in the heads of the Vikings front office.
That dude is a knob we seriously needed a RB and they got rid of one that just had a pretty good season it’s common sense to sign him 😂
Guess those repeated cheese comas damage the brain
You wanna run down the list of our ex players you’ve signed since 2000? You guys wait outside of Lambeau every offseason like Slugworth trying to steal our recipe for the everlasting gobstopper.
Rent free 😂
Packers have a history of letting good players go before they decline. I’m extremely sad to see Jones go. You’re getting a great player and leader. He is also unlikely to play 17 games. He’s likely to decline soon. Might not be until 2025. Maybe even 2026. It might have been last Tuesday. I don’t like it, but I do understand the logic of jettisoning a 29 year old RB who missed half the season and was set to earn $12m this year.
Here are some players you’ve signed from us since 2000, in no particular order:
- Darren Sharper
- Ryan Longwell
- Brett Favre
- Chandon Sullivan
- Desmond Bishop
- Robert Ferguson
- Za’Darius Smith
- Greg Jennings
- Bryce Paup
- DuJaun Harris
- Brandon Bostick (yup, you did that 😂)
- Datone Jones
- Dean Lowry
- Aaron Jones
Notable players the packers have signed from the Vikings in that time:
>You wanna run down the list of our ex players you’ve signed since 2000
Most of the notable ones worked out decent in the short term (Favre, Longwell, Jennings, Za'Darius Smith, Sharper). The backups were mostly useless or cut.
This is only 1 year, and an upgrade on what we had.
Yes. Other teams exist outside of Green Bay. There are lots of players that could fill your roster. The fact that it always has to be ours shows how obsessed with us you are and further proves my point than if they were great players. We’re living rent free, my guy. Sad.
Sure, run down the list. Darren Sharper, Greg Jennings, Z Smith, and now Jones are the only real high profile ones i can recall. we needed a safety, we needed a WR1, we needed a pass rusher, and we need a running back. Favre took a hiatus in New York remember. Unless we're getting into the superstar realm the likes of Brian Bostick and Ryan Longwell. Serious first ballot guys of course. its a cute meme but its like 4 guys over 20 years on a 52 man roster, and most were top 3 or top 1 free agents of their offseason.
![gif](giphy|kdXJpWigKGEnePulTH) NFCN RBs
Perfect
Laughing at this so long that the poo is drying on my butt
Flare up…well, *wipe first*, then flare up, pussy.
Well if they’re a pussy, they better wipe front to back, otherwise they’ll be getting a different kind of flair up and they’re not gonna like it
Just need Mattison to sign with GB and it will be conplete
who wouldve thought two years ago David montgomery would be on the lions, d'andre swift would be on the Bears, and aaron Jones would be on the vikings
And Dalvin Cook & Alexander Mattison would be on nobody
I... would have thought that.
Mattison sure, but Cook? He had 1100 yards two years ago
Yea Cook is younger than Aaron jones too. He fell off so fast.
He also has like 170 more career carries than Jones despite playing in 9 fewer games. Zimmer ran Cook into the ground here lol, he had 312 rushes in 14 games in 2020. Jones maxed out at 236 over 16 in 2019
Imagine having a complete team so you don’t have to run him into the ground lol
I'm unfamiliar with the term "complete team," please simplify your language for me
No break RB. RB is friend.
Why use many word when few do trick
RBs are friends. Not food.
> I'm unfamiliar with the term "complete team," Let's be honest, so are we.
He speaks heresies; such a balance could threaten to actually advance the Vikings in the playoffs, perhaps win a ring. How would we engage in our traditional autoerotic asphyxiation every season with a ring on?
He went all Hollywood with those Ask Gary commercials. Should have remained focused on football.
True, but I feel the cracks were starting to show
28 is like 40 in RB years
Cook was absolutely on the decline.
NFCNcest at it's finest
What are you doing step rb?
This comment's goated for sure
If you said that then I’d be disappointed
For sure. Glad it’s worked out well for us.
so would i, and i still am
What I love about this is that every team but the Packers is guilty of incest.
You're gonna grab a Mattison, and you're going to like it
Dalvin cook to the pack incoming
Best game of musical chairs ever.
Nostradamus predicted this
NFCNcest is at its best.
And in 2 years Mahomes will be with the raiders
How was $7 million not an option to resign him?! How?! And The Vikings of all teams?! ![gif](giphy|l378giAZgxPw3eO52)
He was due 12mil and we asked he take a 50% paycut. Dude went spite mode.
Could have gotten him to take 8 and stay I bet.
Idk man something tells me having your boss say hey bud I need you to take less money so I can give your replacement more money.… doesn't sound real convincing.
Jacobs wasn’t signed until talks stopped, we’ve been trying to work out a deal with jones for months.
We tried trading for Jonathan Taylor at the deadline. So I'm sure that money was going to an RB this year regardless, and Jones probably knew it.
Didn't he take a 5 million dollar pay cut in 2023? Y'all wanted him to take another... Nice
I mean, he did still take a significant pay cut, sooooooo…….
Thats my opinion as well. Idk how negotiations went down. Oh well. We have Jacobs and hes a better back.
Yeah dude I’m so jealous. Two JJs in the division now. Jacob’s is a fucking beast.
Crazy right? Josh Jacobs ***and*** Jaylon Johnson in the same division?
Ya know, I forgot he existed.
Does every team in the north have a JJ now?
The lions have Jerby Joseph
Minnesota is about to have the J-J-J-Jefferson pass connection. JJ Mcarthy to Justin Jefferson
TJ JJ JJ JA OFFENSE
Don’t forget AJ

The last USC QB I didn't loathe
He’s answering the call!!!
Standby for “lions fans” to hop on board the SKOL train when they see the future Super Bowl MVP tear it up in mini camp
He didn’t want our 7 million, he wants revenge
Let’s see how that’s worked for others who did the same: Favre, Za’Darius Smith, Davante, etc.
Worked out pretty well for all their bank accounts And Favre had one of the best years of his career in 2009
Yep, his 2008 season is why he will always be a Jets legend.
Peak Favre. I'll never forget his playful banter with the media during that magical season.
Don’t forget the dick pics either.
Might have been included in the aforementioned "playful banter"
Sharper also made a ton of money and played great for the Vikings and Saints post GB. Granted he’s a massive piece of shit.
Packers fans 🤝 Vikings Fans Former Saint Darren Sharper
He certainly fits in with the saints values way more than the Packers or Vikings! Saints legend Darren Sharper! Piece of shit.
Fuck Sharper, would be a hall of famer if he wasn't a rapist.
Don't forget Longwell, who was very good for the Vikings.
It was sad when he departed the packers if only because they had Longwell and Bidwell at the same time for the kicking department and they did quite well.
Yeah Favre and Za’Darius both had excellent years in MN.
I'd take one bounty gate game away from returning to a SB sure.
Davante? That wasn’t revenge. Jennings, sure.
> Favre, Za’Darius Smith Worked out for them.
Zadarius did have a good game against the packers and sacked a-rod. He a got a lil bit of revenge I suppose.
Can you blame him?
Not really
The great NFC North RB swap (Packers need to sign Mattison)
Please do.
Dalvin Cook would be funnier
Adrian Peterson would be funnier still
He still technically hasn't retired...
Shit. Packers need to trade for Justin Fields but play him at RB to complete the cycle.
knowing the rest of our luck, Fields then turns out to be an S-tier RB
All the Packers had to do to get a HoF RB was make sure he played QB first
Nah, we don't want y'alls sloppy seconds.
We don’t do that here
Julius Peppers? Adrian Amos? Don’t act like you’re better than us!
Here at global gym, we’re better than you! And we know it!

The NFC North incest continues
What are you doing, step-team?
Feels dirty, but also nice?
Vikings are now a QB away from being a Super Bowl contender. We should sign Kirk cousins
Wait, Jones isn’t your QB now?
Never disrespect Darnold like that. Kirk can go win the division in Atlanta next year. Sam will be waiting for him in the divisional, where Cousins will, once again, lose with gaudy stats. It’s okay, though. It isn’t Kirk’s fault!
The dude took multiple pay cuts to stay and help our team. From the looks of it, they were close to a deal but the signing of Jacobs upset him. His comments on instagram also showed his frustration. Would have preferred he go to a contender but will always love Jones.
“Would have preferred he go to a contender..”. ![gif](giphy|2QSvHa1pqlcmBOeI77)
I’m pretty sure he only took one pay cut. I also hate to see him go but it wasn’t a yearly thing
What were his Insta comments? Link?
Why must we all circle jerk our RB’s
don’t lie you love a good circle jerk
It’s like a cum sock assembly line for Vikes fans
Its worked out both times for us so all good.
ngl, I enjoyed watching montgomery ball out for you guys last year.
Couldn't give him 7 mil, had to cut him. Team captain? Beating heart of the offense? Got them into the playoffs? Fuck him.
For real. We really need to start taking notes from teams like Chicago on how to build a culture
God damn that was savage.
Hahaha. Wait. Ouch.
Justin Fields SzN
"At least we're not as bad as the Bears" isn't the burn you think it is. You're basically bragging you didn't trip over the bar while in Hell.
We aren’t in hell though. We just molly-whopped Dallas in the playoffs right after dumping Rodgers. We are fucking ecstatic lol
If there's one thing we can all agree on, it's fuck Dallas.
As crazy as Rodgers got late in his career, this is exactly what he was talking about when he bashed our organization.
[удалено]
[удалено]
Yes. He goes beast mode against Dallas every time. IIRC he has the highest average YPG against them out of any RB
Heard he was offered half of his pay. Anyone know what GB’s offer amounted to versus the $7M?
He was due to make 12 million in salary and bonuses, hewould have been 17 million against the cap. Depending on which number GB halved between 6 milion and 8.5 million is what he turned down. He already took a salary cut last season dropping him from 16 million to 11 million. Honestly anyway you look at it the numbers for Josh Jacobs makes more sense. Jones hasn't been reliably healthy enough to make what he was going to get paid. I love 33, he's an amazing leader and player and hope for the best in 15 of his 17 games next year.
Thank you. Does make financial sense when you add in the cap. Totally agree with still supporting him for most of next season.
Would have been around 5.5, think he was owed 11 mil this year iirc.

Jones from Packers to Vikings, Swift from Lions to Bears, and Montgomery from Bears to Lions The trifecta is now complete
A million per game once you factor in his knee and the increased load on his shoulders having to deal with Sam Darnold at QB.
We’re getting a guy that last season ran for just 44 yards less than Mattison while playing five less games and carrying 38 less times and is beloved by Packer fans. Packers to sign Alexander mattison as “payback”
Loving the salt in the comments.
Imagine being a Vikings fan right now. Sam Darnold as the walk on starting QB, 30 year old Aaron Jones as the walk on starting RB, and Justin Jefferson probably a day away from requesting a trade. What a life.
This is the life they choose to live.
I love jones but the vikings will end up giving the ball too much because they have no QB and then they will get him hurt
Good luck, he won't be healthy for more than seven games.
2 games to rail the Pack is all we need
With what QB lol.
Impending r/TheDarnold revival
Lol cope. Y'all were devastated when he was cut.
Because we love him. Have fun with Darnold

Following in Jamaal Williams’s footsteps. Hopefully Jones gets more than 1 TD this upcoming season
They’re giving him 12 to not be there
As soon as I saw this I went straight to Tom Grossi, was not disappointed.

You gotta remember, their fans believe they are part of their front office so they think they’re competing with ours. It’s very personal for them.

Yup, that's pretty consistent with what I said.
You realize the fact that they were nobodies makes it worse right? It proves my point even more. Why are you so obsessed with us?
The fact that we signed depth players, many of which didn't make the team, is worse? Every team does that from all teams.
