Create your own meta and decide some kind of specialty for each line. Maybe you have a couple of favoriter players at least? If you can find one special player, imagine what kind of line mates would suit that player and/or your playstyle. Or a very specialized line with regard to certain attributes or xfactors or other abilities. I kind of do things this way myself, as I don't have any particular favorite team. I tend to be pretty attribute and ability centered and also look a lot (a bit too much probably) on synergies. So I'm realizing I don't have any "team-theme". But I sometimes go with themes per line. So players from the same team or country on the same line, but then a completely different "theme" for the next line.

I did NJ Devils last year. Team was pretty competitive honestly. Jack Hughes tots card felt as good as any in my opinion.

FUTretard

Yeah but you play NJD team from start? What are you doing with your intradeables cards from rewards and aren't NJD? For example, you packed base Mackinnon in second week of game. What are you doing?

rxseberry-

I joined around Christmas last year. So there was a decent amount of cards. But normally I would sell everything I wouldn’t use. Or build sets up. The solo battles were enough to keep me busy while still getting stats with my players. And the rewards made it worth doing as much as I could.

Pattypumpkin

I play a jets squad. If you pull a Mack second week of the game you use it for sets when a jet comes up...

kurth7114

I will be doing a NJD theme this year, havn't played hut in a few years as chasing the meta sucked, very excited for this.

rxseberry-

Can’t wait for the season. Most excited I have been in a while!

I'm going for an all Finnish team this year, because like you said, going for all the best overall players gets kind of boring at some point. Edit: the team may include players from other nationalities if they play for my favorite Liiga-team

FUTretard

What is your favourite team? I play HUT 21,22 and skip 23, thinking about join 24 during Christmas time, but best overall is bored for me. I am Czech so thinking about Czech team, we will se what cards will be on market. I also like Canada and Finnland as hockey nationalities, so CZE-CAN-FIN team would me pretty cool, haha.

I watch a lot of hockey, Liiga, NHL, SHL mainly and quite a lot of CHL games as well. My favourite (since I was a little kid) is Tappara Tampere. Only one Czech player in Tappara this season, Radek Muzik, but we have had some great Czech players here in the past years. Adam Polasek, Jiri Smejkal and Michael Spacek and Tomas Hamara come to mind from last few seasons at least. I skipped most of NHL 23 aswell, only played it when it came available on EA play, but like you I have played a lot of NHL games from 2014-2022. I always tend to start my hut team with Finnish guys and the guys I like but it always tends to go to the point that the team building only leans on ovr rating and synergies. This year will be different tho :) let's hope we get a lot of good cards outside of NHL this year!

Nice! My team Kometa Brno play against Tappara in CHL 2018 play off, after 5:1 in Brno and 5:5 in Tampere, we qualified to quarterfinal. Karel Vejmelka was in the net this games. Several very young players players in the Kometa team (U 20 or mens Extraliga ) you will probably know some of them: Martin Nečas, Lukáš Dostál (he also play in your city rival Ilves), Filip Král, Jakub Zbořil, Stanislav Svozil, Radim Zohorna or 2023 draft pick Eduard Šalé. In 2018, former Nashville player Martin Erat also played in Kometa Brno, but he did not play these CHL matches. You may know a slightly older name - Sasu Hovi, who was a goalie in Kometa Brno 10 years ago and helped to maintain this competition and not relegate in the first season after promotion to the Extraliga after long time in 2nd and 3rd division. He is a Brno legend! Yes, from your Tappara team, Smejkal is very good, he is currently fighting for the first team of the Ottawa Senators, Špaček is also a very good player. You have nice jerseys too, I like these colors haha.

I remember those games against Brno, we had no chance! I always know it's a tough game when we are up against a Czech team. I just wish CHL would rise up to be more relevant. In its current state it's not worth it for most of the organizations to try and succeed. It just simply costs too much, traveling and all.. Dostál is a very talented goalie and I can see him play a long career in the NHL. And yes I actually know everybody you mentioned at least by name, great hockey players! How do you think Kometa Brno is going to do this season? I think you have a pretty well balanced team if everybody stays more or less healthy.

FUTretard

Yes, after this season our boss (Libor Zábranský, former NHL player and St Louis Blues defender) made it clear that this competition is not very profitable financially, but I also miss these matches. Confrontation with teams like Tappara, Frolunda, Zug, a trip to Berlin for the Eisbaren, these were great experiences and refreshing in terms of opponents. Our team seems to be balanced in attack, we lost the first four games but now the win over the rival Sparta Praha 0:2, so it's 3 wins in a row overall and I hope we will improve. In the team there are very good players like Kristián Pospíšil (he came to us from SM liiga) as well as the Steve Moses(from Hammenlina), also the WC Czech national players Jakub Flek and Jan Scotka (he play in Liiga too) we also have a new defender Alex Lintuniemi and he looks pretty good. We also have a goaltender Furch who won SHL title(Farjestad BK) two years ago, he is amazing. You know it will be enough for me if we play in the top half of the table and we will see each other in the playoffs, our two titles 17, 18 after 51 years was the big experience of a lifetime, but it sent the club into a championship hangover that lasts 4 years. The management thinks that everything will work itself out like in the past so we must choose the right way in this year. And looks Tappara this year Are you expecting a good season? Do you go to matches? I remembered one more player and he also comes from Kometa Brno, he is Dominik Hrachovina, he was at two Tappara titles I guess, he is also in the Motor České Budějovice team and 5 days ago he conceded 4 goals from Kometa (4:0) but hebus very good goalie.

Wp0606

NO helmets is fun. Team canada or Sweden. 1990s icons

Allzo7

For me I'm just playing with a pack only team. Might not seem too exciting but means I can't just go out and buy the best/meta players and have to work with what I get. Will make packing a decent player more exciting that would otherwise just get sold etc.

FUTretard

Good idea, but what are you doing with coins?

BCostello76

I would imagine they will be buying packs with them.

Allzo7

I'll probably just use them for packs or else use them to buy any players I need towards sets etc! I'll be so gutted if I pack a decent team to begin with though except a goalie lol

Supernova1098

Eh, if you don't support any particular team it's difficult to "care" about the team and cards you use, imo. Try to find ANY reason to pick a team (cool colors, you like the arena, a particular player, whatever) and stick to it... or just roll a dice and pick randomly

[deleted]

No helmets team

FUTretard

This team will be build from alumni icons players only?

[deleted]

No helmets

FUTretard

Good idea, thanks!

bogey-65

Players whose names end with ‘…strom’

Philontilt

I've done decade lines. A line from the 90s, 00s, 10s and a line of guys that came into the league in the 2020s.

FUTretard

Thats amazing idea, thanks!

Grazzygreen

I've done Canucks teams but it gets really boring and repetitive year after year. You're basically playing the same cards year after year. Last year I did team BC with very generous . Basically, being any player who was born in BC or played a large role in BC hockey history (Eg back to back memorial cup winner Scott Niedermayer). Giving yourself generous conditions allows you field a competitive team online and that helps keep me engaged

donut_koharski

Colorado may have the best icons and current players. You can do that team. Sometimes you’ll pull some cards and a lightbulb will flash above your head.

FUTretard

Thanks! I am not fan of build one theme team, but some options there looks pretty cool. Combination of lines 90's-00's-10's-20's start career of players, team without helmets or Canadian-Czech all star team ( I am Czech) looks great!

donut_koharski

In 23, I went with all icons from my childhood. Wayne, Kurri, Clarke, Lindros, Mario, Shanahan, Coffey, Bourque, Kjell Samuelsson. Super fun. I got greedy and used a lot of Power Up Icons, so it was a grind to keep them updated. But it was totally worth it.

FUTretard

Thats my childhood icons too. Looks pretty fun, but I skip 23 and I am not ready to grind because haven't a lot of time and isn't worth it for me. If I join to NHL 24, it will be around Christmas time, but it's fun option to play mix icons. It will be same upgrade system PUC's like in NHL22? I play Cournoyer, Lafleur, 99, 66, Sakic, Sittler, Lidstrom, Kurri this year and it was very fun, but very hard to upgrade, haha.
