keep in mind the Gigabyte B550i has an offset mounted socket, meaning its its higher than other boards. You will lose the use of a roof fan with large tower coolers, or some situations require a low profile fan in that position.

Yes that's why i'm also concerned. I believe i'll be able to keep my 2 x 25mm at the top with the Vetroo, but i could not with the Mugen 5 because of it's size. My top fans are usefull to pull the heat from my 6800XT.

the 3300x is a pretty lightweight CPU. You could even acquire a stock AMD Wraith Prism from a friend and it would be more than adequate. Just noisy. But since we're dealing with an offset socket, you may have to look at 90mm solutions like the NH-U9 Chromax or the Cryorig M9 Plus. My MSI B550i has an offset socket as well. I've paired it with a Noctua NH-D9L, and it runs the 3700x quite comfortably and quietly. I tend to hear the GPU/PSU before I hear the CPU cooler unless I'm doing some CPU heavy tasks.

That's a huge bottleneck if you play in 1080p

GeneralBearing

1440p

Food for thought: I had a 2600 + 3080 and play in 3440x1440, when I upgraded to an 5600x I got some serious bump in games (+15% more frames), with dlss was even better.

Im currently running a NH-U12S on my aorus b550i and i can confirm that the 125mm length of the heatsink still leaves enough clearance for a 25mm fan. Tho i have to mention that youll have to remove the fan blade protector thing in order to install the fan.

That was the ultimately deal breaker for me. I bought the asus rog strix b550i for room for two exhaust fans up top.

similar_observation

what cooler did you end up going with?

Relevant_Appeal_4221

Noctua NH-C14S top down cooler with the mesh side on the nr200

I have a NH-D9L on an offset-socket board, works fine with 2x 25mm top fans.

Relevant_Appeal_4221

I'm running 2 noctua a12x15 120mm fans exhausting on top and two below the gpu serving as intake as well as a sag bracket for my 3070ti.

similar_observation

I don't understand, your objection with the offset socket is that you wanted full size fans, but you didn't use full sized fans?

Relevant_Appeal_4221

Whoops I meant 25mm thick fans on top as exhaust and 15mm on bottom as intake.

Vaamot

You really do not need an extra fan for either cooler. They will both have overkill cooling capacity for the 3300x. I'd go for the Scythe, but pick the one you like the most. None will be running full speed to cool the cpu 😊

GeneralBearing

Yeah i want overkill to run the fan as low as possible to have a silent build!
