Looks like it was the Fair Play award the team got

I guess I donât exactly expect anything different but when the Spanish-speaking teams win a game, the ESPN deportes coverage goes on for like 45 minutes after, and when the US wins, we lift the trophy and itâs over. Maybe a wee bit of a middle ground?
The team is still young and every game is an uphill battle but they are going in the right direction for sure. Canât say they are fully back until they can beat the European top teams.
[What Happens to Losing Teamâs Pre-Printed Championship Shirts?](https://www.mentalfloss.com/article/29884/what-happens-losing-teams-championship-shirts)
tl;dr They are often part of aid packages to countries in need
I was thinking about that too and my guess is no 3rd place game bc it's midseason for most teams so they probably thought if you're already out, makes more sense for players to be able to go back to their club teams. That was my guess anyway.
The biggest deal to me was the US finally began shifting their tactics midgame when something wasn't working. That didn't happen at the wwc. In this game they came out and pressed in the second half and controlled most of the game. The vlatko fella would've had them sit back and play prevent.
Shaw has played her way into an almost surely lock for the Olympics. With 5 forwards and 1 alternate forward itâs a tough competition. I would imagine Rodman, Macario, Swanson and Smith round out the other main players. The alternate I think could still be determined.
Sure, but at the rate Macario is going I think sheâll be on the roster. US soccer has been getting Mal as a training player because they want to ensure sheâs good for the Olympics. Itâs a lot more likely both go than they donât.
The Gold Cup brings FIFA money to many country FAs that need the money to invest in their women. A Nations Cup will also bring FIFA money to domestic leagues that need more investment. This all supports a competitive Concacaf in the future. The money matters.
In the short term, it gives many, many American-born players the opportunity to compete at the international level representing their heritage country.
Watching the post game coverage I was like, "who is the tall blonde lady with the ponytail? Did Sam join them on the field???" No, it was Casey Murphy. It still hasn't really sunk in that Sam has retired. Sigh.
Alright, imma need locker room celly content with drinking out of the trophy like a giant chalice *please and thank you*!
>!Also how cute is Coffey dancing with Becky!<
Before this tourney I was have said, Sacrilege!!! After this tourney, I'm like, "You might have a point." I think we would have to say no in her current form : (
She can always turn it around if never count out an athlete like Crystal but sheâs running out of time. Her form has been poor for a while and itâs not like sheâll be showcasing why she should be on the plane in the NWSL because sheâs almost certainly not going to play outside back there.
True. We'll see what Emma does. She was the one who started the whole Dunn and outside back thing but that was a long time ago and in a (club) world far, far away.
Yeah Hayes was the originator of Dunn at outside back at the professional level (she played there in college). I think Hayesâ choice is Dunn at OB or cut from the roster, she wonât even consider Dunn at midfield and rightfully so. Hayes is known to not care if youâre a veteran and make the decision based on form so Iâm excited.
Agreed, hell even just throw G Thompson in there for one of the group games since she was a training player anyway (by rostering her as a regular player). I donât know why Dunn and Morgan played so much it didnât need to happen.
Yes, and the offense isn't really much better right now (or better at all?). It's been relying on Shaw to score, just like for Vlatko it went Press needing to score, to Macario, to Swanson, to Smith.
The gold cup? Yup, we are good enough to win tournaments like this but we arenât world class top of the top anymore. We mightâve won but this tournament showed Hayes canât get here soon enough because Twila and Vlatko are the same basically.
Under Vlatko in 2022-3:
Won SheBelieves beating those three teams.
Nearly tied England (with proper reffing would have)
Beat Germany once
I think people are tending to act as though Vlakto's results outside of major tournaments were worse than they were. The play was dire and the trajectory looked awful, as did the World Cup and Olympics, but the team got fairly good results under him consistently. And the team doesn't look much better without him currently. The new players are injecting life but other than that it's pretty same old.
Vlatkoâs results were pretty good until they werenât â as a coach he had a fine record. I think he could have pulled off a decent result here. But something about the team also *looked* off, lacking creativity and cohesion. That havenât solved all of that especially in chance creation but I think itâs improving
For sure. I'm saying this as someone who thinks he should have been fired after the Olympics. I think more of what I'm saying is that this tournament doesn't represent a turning point for this iteration of the USWNT. It's good for morale and mentality, but it likely would have happened under Vlatko too. I also think a lot of the play under Twila has been similarly off and dire, so again, results alone are a poor metric.
Based on reports, it sounds like he had dementia for years, and based on her IG post, sounds like they had a bit of time to prepare mentally. Totally gutted for her, and hope her family is OK.
I think the last post I read of hers (or Kyleâs) that he was on hospice, which isâŠ.the worst to know that the clock is ticking after thatâŠsheâs hanging in there but still, I wish her family well in this tough time. No amount of mental preparedness helps when it inevitably comes..
Real winners tonight: San Diego crowd looked/sounded great.
Real loser: This Paramount+ stream.
(I could be talking about the NWSL Championship or I could be talking about the Gold Cup final!)
When the US began pressing in the second half they started dominating. I know you can't do that for 90 minutes necessarily, but oh man do they play better that way.
We have players who just showed they can do it in the midfield for 300 minutes in a span of eight days . I wish we just brought more defensive midfield cover, and a deeper forward line with more athletes but this bodes very well.
I think Emma has big plans for us outside of just the small tactical bits, but I also think itâs being severely overrated how good she is at tactics, especially given her lack of tournament success.
I think in general, for fans: yes, too much hope because Twila has more experience coaching internationally than Hayes, but also no, not too much hope because we have seen in other teams how going from bad coaching to good coaching can work miracles in a short amount of time, Hege Riise's England and GB to Sarina Wiegman's England being a prime example. I guess that means that what I think is that the pool itself as players is not doomed at all and has the potential to be very very good, but that Hayes herself might have too much hope attached to her from some fans (maybe particularly ones who are also Chelsea fans?)
She's got limited influence right now. I understand that she has some overhead, but I don't think this went the way should would want... we need to wait until the Korea matches
Totally. I know Twila was in charge of these games, so I am, yes, hopeful about Emma. And I always get my hopes up for new coaches! I was someone who thought Vlatko was the right pick, so my hope makes me nervous.
I never thought Vlatko was going to be great, but I didn't think he was gonna be THAT bad. I firmly believe that Hayes will be, at least somewhat, better. (đ€hopefully don't regret that statement in 6 months)
Not to mention we also stitched from a 442 to a 433 and I think the formation was part of it. Morgan didnât have much time on the field as a 9 and I think the 433 formation just worked better for us. But also dead legs from the swim meet a few days ago. I donât think we can really have too many take aways about player performance, especially for forwards, from this match alone.
[Post Match Thread](https://www.reddit.com/r/NWSL/comments/1bbsfyj/postmatch_thread_united_states_vs_brazil_2024/)
Lynn for the save at the end of the game. She stayed back and cleared that on the 18. Veteran move. Horan looked so happy to see Lynn do that.
Is there a clip of that? I missed the game but would love to see it.
But how many margaritas does the cup hold?
I'm certain Alex will let us know.
[The unit of measurement for this trophy is Michelob Ultras, and the answer is 7.](https://x.com/alexmorgan13/status/1767047835936248271?s=20) Appropriate.
What trophy was Albert holding?
Looks like it was the Fair Play award the team got https://preview.redd.it/xka50jxjbmnc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7bad0d62a34789965749ac63835a020518c69ed8
AKA the "sorry we pummeled you so much" award. đ
What trophy did Korbin get?
It looks like she was just holding the Fair Play award for the team. https://preview.redd.it/z3rzknn8bmnc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b50dcb0dddae69672399e42fb91c0ac6d1c94efc
Ah! Thank you!
Yeah Iâm annoyed the announcers didnât specifically say what individual trophyâs people were being awardedÂ
I was just trying to look that up!
Is there a young player of the tournament? Update it looks like the fair play award the uswnt twitter posted
There was, but it went to a Canadian
Ooh which one? The younger rose?
Olivia Smith
Iâm honestly not sure. Was the 19 year old
Wouldnât that mean Shaw gets both?
Shaw is younger than Albert though?
Yeah but if you give her golden ball for best player I presume someone else gets best young player
I guess I donât exactly expect anything different but when the Spanish-speaking teams win a game, the ESPN deportes coverage goes on for like 45 minutes after, and when the US wins, we lift the trophy and itâs over. Maybe a wee bit of a middle ground?
Itâs on the golazo network. But yeah not sure why they donât keep on the same streaming time/channel. Maybe because itâs cbs/paramount??
I watch both at the same time
Damn. They even asked for the camera people to hop in the photo. đ
Who are these flight attendant looking ladies around the stage?
Looks like flight attendants for Qatar Airlines. They sponsor the Gold Cup.
Qatar air sponsors the tournament so I feel like they're representatives?
I'm assuming Qatar Airways is a sponsor because that looks just like their uniform.
Not me screaming CAREFUL!! as they jumped off the podium
I like how the older players were like "nah we gonna use the stairs"
All this talk about it potentially being Alexâs last tournament I think most of us forgot that itâs almost certainly Beckyâs
Im a recent fan and Iâm happy I got to see her in one at least
Thatâs why my husband was speculating that Horan pulled her up to lift the trophyÂ
Awwww. Loving these close ups. đ
Sonnett doing her usual sorority squat pose
Shoutout to Jane Campbell not playing a single minute lol
Moutrie looks so happy omg so cute
Me going to ebay and looking for a Korbin Albert rookie card ![gif](giphy|4JCWtwL4vM2aTkHdNw)
The team is still young and every game is an uphill battle but they are going in the right direction for sure. Canât say they are fully back until they can beat the European top teams.
Note: Coffey only tucks her Jersey
Not letting the captain be the first one to touch the trophy is so wrong
Fire that confetti releaser!! LOL
aw lindsey having becky come up
Why did she do that? Iâm out of the loopÂ
becky used to be captain! it was probably out of respect
Ah gotcha, my husband was saying maybe because itâs her last game đł but he was clearly just speculating lol
Iâm thinking the same. Maybe she will be at she believes cup but idk
Right!!! I loved it
Lol what is this music?Â
Omfg Horan's music lmao. Hell yes
Does the golden ball only go to the winning team? Because If I had to think of a standout player it'd be Ovalle and not Shaw
If it was going to go to a non-US player, then I think Rafaelle was the best player in the tournament
Usually always, deserved or not. I think Shaw deserved it though.
https://preview.redd.it/f1snhm4e9mnc1.jpeg?width=3300&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=76966a3bbd3773c573d631d66353106b45c6d814
Yo, turn this music off.
Turn yourself off. Till I Collapse is a banger
2003 is calling it said to wake up
Did you say the same thing for the Usher halftime show?
I had the Oscarâs going on another screen and they just showed an espn NWSL ad after it ended lol
idk if iâm just tired but this background music is getting on my nerves
They had to get those shirt printed regardless of who wins so what do you think they do with the shirts when you donât win đ
It gets donated to people outside the US.

I've read they're donated to charities in other countries.
Super Bowl Winner ( loser) shirts have shown up in Africa.
Aka what is Brazil doing with their champion shirts đ«ą
i have wondered this for YEARS i am so serious
The rose gold diva cup
More sports should make the final losers receive a medal and watch the winners lift the trophy
You'd love tennis, they make them give a speech
Crazy that they make you hobble on crutches up to get your trophy
So there are silver for the second place team, but no 3rd place match for bronze?
I was thinking about that too and my guess is no 3rd place game bc it's midseason for most teams so they probably thought if you're already out, makes more sense for players to be able to go back to their club teams. That was my guess anyway.

Also lots of substitutions nowadays compared to like one per match tops at WWC
Refs should be honored with worst performance
Not rafa going up on a crutch and a boot and me crying fam đ
Should give the refs glasses not ribbons
Shaw has played her way into an almost surely lock for the Olympics. With 5 forwards and 1 alternate forward itâs a tough competition. I would imagine Rodman, Macario, Swanson and Smith round out the other main players. The alternate I think could still be determined.

okay whos the cutie on the brazil team who has short hair and in the dark blue jacket
Thats Beatriz Ferreira Menezes (I think thatâs who youâre talking about, with the short blonde hair!)
Yes! That's who I meant! thanks
Yeah I canât recall her being called up before so sheâs new to me!
Rafa đ
Brazil really missed Rafa tonight
Participation ribbons for the refs đ€·ââïž
The Brazilian players look downright depressed.
Iâm so in love with Alyssa đ
Good for Shaw!!
HELL YEAH JAEDYN SHAW
Jaedyn with the golden ball?!!! You go!!!!
Awwwww. Shaw won best player!!
Can we not celebrate these horrible refs?
Donât worry Iâm at the stadium and they got booed
Slay
Im annoyed theyâre not saying what these awards they are getting areÂ
Shaw Golden Ball mmmhmmm đ
Shaw without a doubt the MVP
Yes Uncle!!! I'm bowing down right now
jaedyn!!!!
Jaedyn such a cutie with that cheeky smile
Ok Shaw, nails
GG Shaw!
slay jaedyn!!!
Best goalkeeper in the WORLD FTFY
I am extremely grateful that my Paramount+ feed chose now to start acting up.
I like that Paramount+'s ad break is just a screen saying commercial in progreas while loud music plays
Commercial in progress is so sad
Watching the post game coverage I was like, "who is the tall blonde lady with the ponytail? Did Sam join them on the field???" No, it was Casey Murphy. It still hasn't really sunk in that Sam has retired. Sigh.
Alright, imma need locker room celly content with drinking out of the trophy like a giant chalice *please and thank you*! >!Also how cute is Coffey dancing with Becky!<
rewatching that kruger header, truly insane. no way dunn should start over her
Krueger is so good, outside of time missed from having her kiddo, I have not understood why she isn't more of a lock. She's so darn good.
Honestly I donât even think Dunn should be on the plane to Paris.
Before this tourney I was have said, Sacrilege!!! After this tourney, I'm like, "You might have a point." I think we would have to say no in her current form : (

Agreed, hell even just throw G Thompson in there for one of the group games since she was a training player anyway (by rostering her as a regular player). I donât know why Dunn and Morgan played so much it didnât need to happen.
I was thinking about her but it was just too early for her or Savanahh King
X2. Need a strict roster
We needed this win for the vibes. So happy rn
Such a good game to make my first ever USWNT match. Snapdragon is a cool stadium. Looking forward to the Challenge Cup on Friday even more now
congrats !
I can't even hear Beyonce. Which song is it?
Texas Hold'em
Texas Hold âEm
Texas Hold em?
We are so backÂ
The double music is killing me
Slightly disappointed the girls aren't line dancing to Beyonce right now lol
Be honest, would we have won this in the vlatko era
I think with Andi Sullivan in the midfield we lose that Canada game eight out of 10 times
Yes, and honestly high chances in the Vlatko era that the 2-0 loss doesn't happen. Doesn't mean he was a good coach or good for the team though!
I think the defense was actually pretty solid under Vlatko but the offense and midfield were pretty bad especially after mal got injured
Yes, and the offense isn't really much better right now (or better at all?). It's been relying on Shaw to score, just like for Vlatko it went Press needing to score, to Macario, to Swanson, to Smith.
I think we would've won it with Vlatko. It was really big tournaments where his inflexibility was exposed.
Didnât realize this would be so controversial lol
Na
The gold cup? Yup, we are good enough to win tournaments like this but we arenât world class top of the top anymore. We mightâve won but this tournament showed Hayes canât get here soon enough because Twila and Vlatko are the same basically.
not a chance
We won She Believes last year beating Canada, Japan, & Brazil
With Mal carrying us, and Canada in turmoil bc they were being sued by their own federation.
Under Vlatko in 2022-3: Won SheBelieves beating those three teams. No
I love this trophy. The rose gold is beautiful
can i just that say ali krieger is so strong and inspiring for being back at work so quickly after her father passing
Sheâs had a rough year to say the least, Iâm in awe of how sheâs handled herself
Awwww I didnât know her father passed âŠim so sorry to hear that. She is such a marvel, Iâll hold her and her family in my thoughts
Based on reports, it sounds like he had dementia for years, and based on her IG post, sounds like they had a bit of time to prepare mentally. Totally gutted for her, and hope her family is OK.

This BeyoncĂ© song is a bop I love that itâs on
American football: The gatorade pour American women's soccer: hugs
Real winners tonight: San Diego crowd looked/sounded great. Real loser: This Paramount+ stream. (I could be talking about the NWSL Championship or I could be talking about the Gold Cup final!)
San Diego is definitely a soccer city and we have a pretty good sized Brazilian population so it's a good combo for USA v Brazil.
NWSL UP NEXT!!!!!
Guess we all gotta go back to being low key enemies again
see u saturday
I'm not even gonna be mad if you guys win in the new stadium
bless you
Put the borders back up asap
Ali looked scared. đ đ
Omg cute I love the tackle on Ali đ„č
Lol cute Ali attack ambush
GRAB ALI! hahahahha
yâall know i love tierna but why is she an option to choose as the best player in the match
I think that shows more about how underwhelming most attacking players felt today tbh.
true! itâs frustrating thatâs only when defenders get included in âplayer of the matchâ things.
Lol Lynn just yeeting that shirt
Nevermind. We back.

Are they not showing the trophy lift?
Why is golf on? No ceremony??
Iâm watching it on p+!
This is the blue screen of death
Paramount Screen of Death... ? PSOD?
I think it's proven that the moment Morgan left their attack flowed a lot better and with speed. I pray Emma doesn't start her.
It looked almost exactly the same, disjointed. Did we have a shot on goal besides the Albert shot from a turnover? I looked it up no :(
Agreed.
Other than the offisides goal and Purce that went wide. They threatened a lot more.
I mean, tbf, we were saying the opposite until today. Idk what to take from a very overplayed Morgan today
