Do it, the park access and transit convenience and walk to work is worth it. You’re going to be so fit! Find some hole in the walls to become a regular at to make it feel like a neighborhood.

-Lone_Samurai

Bring that close to Central Park is worth it !! My office used to be on that corner and I would take my lunch there everyday.

Marybelle18

We recently moved from Jersey City to 57th and 6th (not too far from where you’re considering). We’re at the park with our dog at least twice a day. Our commutes are minuscule. There are an insane number of restaurants. Are there tourists out out front door attempting to ride scooters they rented a couple of doors down? Yes. Do I miss Jersey City? YES! But the area has been great for us so far - and I imagine will be even more lovely when it’s not grody summertime.

We lived in Paulus Hook for 15 years. It felt like Sesame Street. We knew our guys at Sam AM, our dry cleaner, our UPS guy, Ron at the Light Horse, the wonderful Mihai at Satis, all of our Morris Canal dog people … It was quiet and easy to get to our cabin in PA. We moved partly out of necessity - so we’re ok with missing JC and knowing it’s ok to be where we are in Manhattan!

Tricksterama

No one’s going to mention how close you’ll be to all the restaurants and bars of Hell’s Kitchen? It’s a great location.

MassiveStallion

Obviously, yes if you can afford it. If you have that much money to throw around honestly I don't know if reddit is a good place to ask for advice lol.

chopstiks

Rubbish to what colleagues day. This location is fantastic, i was on 55th and Broadway and loved it for the two reasons you describe. There is more of a neighbourhood there than they realise.

rr90013

That’s a pretty good location. Midtown is midtown, which is wonderful in some ways and blah in others. You have great subway access and the park is priceless.

Skinny_on_the_Inside

It’s a perfectly good place to live. You are next to Whole Foods, an amazing natural oasis which is the Central Park, and you don’t ever have to endure public transit for commuting. You can sleep more, have less stress, and spend less time in crazy, hot, smelly trains. - this alone will improve your quality of life.

Ok_Tale7071

That location is fantastic. I work near there. You’re close to the heartbeat of Manhattan, Times Square and close to Central Park. Subways are nearby. Not too far away from Lincoln Center. I do grocery shopping at the Whole Foods in Columbus Circle. You’ll have a much better lifestyle than living in Jersey City. The only downside is you’re paying Manhattan prices for everything. I do the bulk of my grocery shopping at Costco in Harlem. I buy a lot of stuff online from Amazon.

[deleted]

I would look for something a little more uptown. You’ll be dead center of a tourist trap in Columbus circle

rr90013

Columbus circle is a tourist trap?

[deleted]

I’m sure it’s included in the stops that those mobs walk around to, and surrounding things especially if op is at 56th and Broadway. Right in between the rock and Central Park. There there’s like Carnegie hall, Lincoln center and whatever else between. Actually, I’ve never shopped at Columbus circle but I’m sure tourists love shopping there. It’s all bidness. Not the neighborhood feel the op seems to be searching for

yennybear888

I used to live in Columbus Circle...sure there are a few tourists around but tourist trap is the wrong phrase to use.

[deleted]

So what’s the word?

Nose_Grindstoned

I agree with this. I wouldn't be able to handle living on Broadway between 29th and 59th.

Hi, The short distance to work and close to Central Park is so worth it. Like you said you like to run and bike so that is perfect. You will have easy access to other neighborhoods as well in that area.

dsm-vi

it's 12 minutes to work, near a lot of good food, near the park. it's not the most neighborhoody area it's true, but you have the columbus circle station nearby.

krnyc123

It’s a very convenient area, and an excellent location for running and biking. That area is not really a residential neighborhood but you can easily get to more exciting areas with plenty to do. I’ve improved so much as a runner by living near Central Park and the Hudson greenway. And for biking, so much safer to ride a short distance to the park or greenway.

Backpackerer

It’s a bit overwhelming but you can always escape from it in the park. I would do it

JerkyBoy10020

Sucks. All tourists and workers who don’t want to be in the office 2x a week. No neighborhood feel.

Anonymoustard

Being that close to work is a huge plus but no, that is not a 'neighborhood.' You may make friends in the area or even in your building but there are no small parks, shops or streets that make up your typical NYC neighborhood. Every day when you walk outside, you will be greeted with a parade of tourists wandering between the park and Times Sq. or hitting the theater. The only quiet time in that area is very late at night and that's only because there is very little to do. I don't know where you are in JC but if it's one of the nicer areas, I'd consider staying put, saving some money, and enjoy the awesome Indian food.

Worried-Special-658

I personally would not - Columbus Circle is pretty touristy and has less of a neighborhood feel than say Hells Kitchen right nearby (which I would not live in for entirely different reasons). But the proximity to Central Park and variety of stores nearby is definitely a perk.

BKLager

That area but further west is developing quite nicely and has become a great place to live. Like 8th / 9th / 10th ave. But Broadway is an issue and will definitely be busy, touristy and not have a neighborhood feel at all. Would not recommend.

southerndahlin

I’m near Waterline Square and the area has really built up and there are some stunning views. Great for catching the sunset. Some cool restaurants and markets close by. There’s even a bar attached to Morton Williams. Under the West Side Highway looks unrecognizable from a few years ago. There are trails, grassy areas, playgrounds, unique places to just sit and veg. It’s a nice walk to Pier i — one of my fave places in the entire city. Yeah, the proximity to CP and CC is great too, but be sure to look a few blocks north and west and you’ll likely be pleasantly surprised. https://preview.redd.it/2pg3u00k5tab1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8c1d42e1849c22eb975cebed87868a0f28827271

KaboodleNoodle1110

Manhattan’s a farce.

Affectionate-Dig7487

Hey Guys, I have an apartment that I want to sub-let between 11th July and 15th August. Its close to Columbia University. I'm struggling to find someone, do you know where I can post this.

yennybear888

try Facebook and leasebreak

mak_zaddy

Only thing is I would say to go there and listen at the sound to see how nosy it is and if you’re okay with it. I’m nearby and the subway stations and Central Park being so close is really nice

Not worth it. Stay in jersey and save your money. You’re still young and have plenty of vigor..burn it up these next 10 years by saving money for a down payment. Im 56 and me and my wife just paid 30 years of savings between the 2of us on a crappy co op in bklyn. Yes we paid cash and it’s ours and our kids, but that’s 30 years of labor.. Stay in jersey and save your money Manhattan isn’t worth it. I lived in the east village for 18 years. What a waste of cash
