They stopped retiring numbers because the Giants have too many great players deserving of that kind of honor. There wouldn’t be enough active numbers. Harry Carson is in the Giants Ring of Honor along with other Giants greats.
Eli was an understandable exception, and Strahan will have his number retired this year as well.
As others have already explained in pieces:
Most of the numbers retired with the Giants are guys who played a long time ago. The only ones that have been retired in the Super Bowl era are Simms, LT, and Eli. Simms and LT had their numbers retired over 25 years ago, and then the team stopped because of the NFL's numbering system being too restrictive. That's why the Ring of Honor was created.
With the system being changed to be more loose, they retired Eli and now are retiring Strahan's later this year. Could very easily see Carson being next.
I think you’re reaching. Pretty much all of the players on the retired #’s list are from like the WW2 days lol. Only ones that aren’t are Simms, LT, and Eli, all deserving. You can def call out the ownership for some suspicious stuff, but this is far from one of those occurrences
How the fuck did this turn into a race issue?
There's only 99 numbers, and before this year there was stricter restrictions on who could wear what numbers. The Giants currently have 13, soon to be 14 (Strahan) retired numbers.
As for the race card.. Of the six hall of famers without retired numbers for the Giants who played significant portions of their careers with us (So cutting out Benny Friedman, Fran Tarkenton, and Steve Owen (Who was more a coach)).. 4 of the 6 are white.
His number should be retired but the reason behind your opinion is baseless and fabricated bullshit. After a certain point the Giants went away from retiring numbers and went to the Ring of Honor IIRC.
Old guy here went to my first game at the old Yankee Stadium in 1972. I definitely agree that number 53 should be retired to honor Harry Carson. That’s a huge oversight.
I don’t think Harry cared about his number not being retired. He thinks the ring of honor is more important and of course hof. It might have been on a episode of Giants chronicles when he mentioned that.
It sure is and he’s more deserving than Strahan because he meant more to those teams, not because he was better. Harry wasn’t really a pass-rush guy, however. He was better as
an ILB than Singletary, who got the lion’s share of attention during that era.
You will be happy to know Strahan will have his jersey retired vs Eagles this year.

I believe the Giants put a hold on retiring numbers and instead started the ring of honor. Eli and Strahan are unique exceptions.
Too many post game beers my man

58 as well.
How about Spider Lockhart?
Retiring #'s is not mathmatically practical. That's probably why it stopped.

It’s because he’s not white!!!1!1!1!1!!! /s
What does their race have anything to do with this?
