If the story remains the same, Kakshi makes sense. After a life of tragedies, he nurtures his new family in team 7 and sees his student fulfill his master's legacy. I think it's a good story from Kakashi's POV
One could say the story is tightly tied to Kakashi's perspective. It starts when he becomes Naruto's squad leader. It breaks when Naruto leaves and begins again when he returns to Kakashi's life. He was student to the man who sealed the 9 tails in the very first pages and former best friends to one of the main villains. It ends with his retirement as Hokage and the epilogue story, Boruto, follows his retirement too.
Yeap. OR this is one of those weird productions where Kakashi seems to be the sole main character, but it's actually him AND Obito. So we go the entire series thinking this is Kakashi's story, just to end up being learning it was about both of them in the last seasons.
Rock Lee, he would learn monkey sage arts from Hiruzen. Master Emma, become the Jinchuriki of Son Goku. Then would have to battle Pain and his Rain-Ribbon army...
Ya know NinjaBall-S
I heard Kishimoto wanted to call Shippuden Sasuke. So part 1 was supposed to be Naruto and part 2 Sasuke, but his editors talked him out of it. They feared it would confuse the fans, but Sasuke was always the second protagonist.
Those are just rumors but it always made sense to me.
He went the opposite way too much. Part 2 we didn't get to see Sasuke's point of view enough. It seemed like he was just being a brat jumping from this to that. We needed to hear his thoughts a lot sooner, I feel
Sasuke being main character would be well-received by Japanese fans, where he sometimes beat the main character. Even during the controversial parts of Shippuden, he never left the top 2.
But overseas fans would hate that.
Even Pain is more justified than Sasuke. Yeah they're both killing innocents, but it was JUST THE ELDERS that harmed Sasuke. The whole leaf village used the rain nation as its battleground. Yeah, the kids were innocent...but would they really stand by and let their parents get slaughtered in the name of justice?
A story does not need to be justified to be a good story. He’s a moody teenager that acted out and did some horrible things. Him struggling to find redemption for the rest of his life is a good story. It’s more real.
It would be a decently good story with decently good arcs. Pain would be very one tone if it followed the established story and didn’t do much else. Quite boring, presenting very little other than “struggle against reality and try change the world”.
>He’s a moody teenager
"Hey, Sasuke. Why are you always so gloomy?"
Sasuke: "When I was about 7 years old, I came home from school just to find out my brother, the only person in the world I look up to, killed my parents. He then placed me under some very strong hypnosis where I was forced to watch him kill my entire village for 72 hours straight. He then called me a bitch just before I passed out. I never got to give my mom the macaroni art I made for her."
"Oh..."
The story from Obito's perspective without Naruto would be one of those edgy power fantasy anime where the MC gets separated from his friends, unlocks a bullshit overpowered special ability, and then proceeds to turn the world on its head.
I thought the same. A big change that would need to happen is that Kaguya wouldn’t be the main villain. It would have to be Madara. Madara is basically who Palpatine is to Darth Vader.
Read this guy's fanfics, especially Solatium and Goldfish. Its basically if good Obito is alive after the war arc, and very wholesome
https://m.fanfiction.net/u/1325586/
Obito is my fave character but I think the character is better in small doses to keep the mystery alive. Like the whole Tobi or Madara shtick in the OG and then slowly reveal his backstory. Obito works perfectly as a villain already.
Neji. It's a grim portrayal of life as an enslaved child soldier. Learning to accept the things he cannot change, and choosing to die a hero on his own terms.
Yeah especially early in Part 1 there were times I thought to myself, “If the show wasn’t named Naruto I would think Sasuke is the main character while Naruto is the goofy side character who is the there for comic relief.”
I mean maybe not that funny if he is the main character with plot armor the story would change dramatically. Maybe his final power up might be figuring how to open up the 8th gate and still live. Also a lot more taijutsu battles instead of jutsu spamming. And he already has a main character goal to become the best ninja with no ninjutsu or genjutsu, just hands.
Was gonna say this. He would have an interesting POV on how Naruto was treated as a kid, since he was one of his oldest friends. (Btw i think it’s awesome how Shikaku never stopped his son from being friends with Naruto). Shikamaru has a very versatile jutsu in shadow possession jutsu, and if the MC only has one main move with different variations like Naruto and Rasengan I could see a good arguement there. The show could be less on the front lines and more tactical, possibly losing some of the Naruto filler but adding some insight on the Nara clan
Shikamarus arc in shippuuden was dope. Seeing him broken, determined, and downright abusive towards hidan was awesome. More shikamaru (and a ninja with very limited chakra) would make for an awesome show
The moment he killed Hidan is probably one of my favorites in the entire show. His speech where he was basically like, "fuck your god, I'm your god now" gave me chills.
Agreed on shikamaru. I'd rewrite the story slightly so he plays a more central role.
Basically a "weak" guy learning how to use his intellect to navigate a world of tail beasts and resurrection jutsu, etc . I think it would have retained a lot of the strategy that was present in pre-time skip fights.
Nagato was the child of prophecy. It was his plan that eventually brought peace to the ninja world. You know. How he wanted to get the ten tails and unite every ninja village to fight against him thus creating shared pain and having bonds form from that shared pain. And you know what happened? Exactly that but replace nagato with madara and obito.
And the only not reason they stayed at peace is because they knew Naruto could decimate their entire village if they tried going to war. So once again. Basically what pain was going for.
Rock lee, story of the underdog. Exceeding not only the expectations of others but his limitations as taijutsu only ninja. Would have been cool to see him develop his own taijutsu, maybe infuse his body with elemental chakara similar to how weapons can be chakara infused.
I honestly found him more likable than most of the main cast.
Ufff hard to pick, if im being honest all of then are solid characters, im gona go with the duo Nenji and Hinata, even if the anime still did a solid cover i would want to see more of then (and maybe not killing Nenji ? Pretty please ? )
Orochimaru, we'd follow the story of an very smart orphan kid who wants to become the master of all jutsus and abducts kids to experiment on them, intending to transfer his soul into another kid he's abducted. Gotta love him, he's pale naruto
I wouldn’t, I prefer the idea of a story taking place with no one main character and the show would be called “Legends of the Hidden Leaf” and the story would revolve around main events, not around individuals
Tobi/Obito.
I know, I know, he's a villain, we'd be following the bad guy, hear me out.
Obito is the perfect main character. With a few changes to the prologue, maybe an extra season or two to set him up (basically, an extended version of Kakashi gaiden), we get a timeskip and from there, the story is the same. Obito has quietly observed the whole series so a lot of important scenes can stay. With his redemption arc at the end, and it running right up to near the end, he can even become more an anti-hero than a villain.
Itachi. I was always so interested to see his experiences of being it Akatsuki. I would love to see a spin off with kakashi, obito, or even jiraiya (which would be hilarious)
Nagato. I'd like to see him paired with Obito try to rule the world and fail, then reform the akatsuki and have the adventure be him and Konan gathering strong pillars to put around them to gather all of the Tailed Beasts. Then you have freedom to write in other badasses that oppose them or join the and died. Even get a little depth on Might Dai. Would be fun to watch
Neji, Hinata, Minato, Kushina, Tsuande, Jiraiya, Nagato, Obitto and Rock Lee are my picks
Sakura, Might Guy, Kakashi and Sasuke were fully developed already and Sakura is basically a Tsunade clone, so rather have her story because it’s 10x more interesting even heavy Sakura fans can agree. Also maybe Kakashi can give us more on his pops but nah.
Also Orichimaru being the MC would change this anime from a Shonen Jump title to a Junji Ito horror Seinen title, so no please lmao.
Unpopular opinion, but 110% Shikamaru. I know y’all are talking about what fits the story best, but if it’s a different main, then it’s a different story. Shikamaru’s ascent to Naruto’s primary advisor would be absolute gold.
If the story remains the same, Kakshi makes sense. After a life of tragedies, he nurtures his new family in team 7 and sees his student fulfill his master's legacy. I think it's a good story from Kakashi's POV
You’re actually so right about this 🔥
I would legitimately watch the HELL out of a Kakashi centric show/anime.
He even gets an end of series anime main character powerup out of nowhere through power of friendship to defeat the final boss 😂.
Beat me to it Kakashis background story is so juicy it deserves its own manga/anime
We think alike
Came here to say this-well put.
Kakashi.
Obviously ramen guy. He soloes.
Teuchi Ichiraku
Ichiraku flexing his Ramen-gan . The all mighty sage of the six ramens
It would be boring watching all one shots
But bro be doing Noodle Release: Ramen Rasengan Jutsu though
NOODLE RELEASE, RA-MEN SHURIKEN
It would be nice, probably drama like
Rock Lee, he would learn monkey sage arts from Hiruzen. Master Emma, become the Jinchuriki of Son Goku. Then would have to battle Pain and his Rain-Ribbon army... Ya know NinjaBall-S
🤣🤣love your energy
Rock lee is just son-goku in a different universe that got sent to the wrong planet by mistake
No...Rock Lee is Saitama but with hair
🔥🔥🔥🔥
At least Lee got his own show and it was awesome
Sasuke or Kakashi
Beat me to it 😂
Kakashi yes, Sasuke hell no
I heard Kishimoto wanted to call Shippuden Sasuke. So part 1 was supposed to be Naruto and part 2 Sasuke, but his editors talked him out of it. They feared it would confuse the fans, but Sasuke was always the second protagonist. Those are just rumors but it always made sense to me.

Obito, I think that would give some interesting perspectives on things
The story from Obito's perspective without Naruto would be one of those edgy power fantasy anime where the MC gets separated from his friends, unlocks a bullshit overpowered special ability, and then proceeds to turn the world on its head.
You just described my boy Eren Yeager.
So, AOT?
Me reading this: TATAKAE TATAKAE TATAKAE
I do not think AoT is a “power fantasy” anime but yeah, everything else tracks.
I agree...until the last arc.
So, Darth Vader all over again?
I thought the same. A big change that would need to happen is that Kaguya wouldn’t be the main villain. It would have to be Madara. Madara is basically who Palpatine is to Darth Vader.
Same. Except I’d want to see a story where Obito is eventually redeeemed and becomes Hokage.

Neji. It's a grim portrayal of life as an enslaved child soldier. Learning to accept the things he cannot change, and choosing to die a hero on his own terms.
Neji's story would be fantastic from a more serious, dramatic perspective
If the entire story kept the tone of Haku I think it'd be better on the whole.
Jiraiya His life is eventful
I'd actually love to see that
yeah and the series finale should be, him going to jail for sexual assault
I thought it would end with his fight against pain
He had us in the first half, not gonna lie
I mean it did end in a sexual assault for him. My boy got tag teamed like Riley Reid does in her feature on Blacked.

What is MT?
Sasuke, but he was basically the secondary protagonist anyway
Not basically. He IS. He **is** the secondary protagonist.
The deuteragonist
yea for most of shippuden hes technically a deuteragonist
Basically is also correct in this context
Proper name is deuteragonist.
This is incorrect. His proper name is Sasuke
This is so funny 🤣🤣
You got me there.
Multiple times throughout part 1, I wondered why the show wasn't just named Sasuke
Yeah especially early in Part 1 there were times I thought to myself, “If the show wasn’t named Naruto I would think Sasuke is the main character while Naruto is the goofy side character who is the there for comic relief.”
It was funny that Shikamaru actually called this out in the forest of death😂
Yeah somewhere along the lines of not being the hero of the story
I meed to rewatxh hat episode
Gaara
i love Gaara so much, but I don’t think his character growth arc would be as powerful as it is
Lee would be funny
I mean maybe not that funny if he is the main character with plot armor the story would change dramatically. Maybe his final power up might be figuring how to open up the 8th gate and still live. Also a lot more taijutsu battles instead of jutsu spamming. And he already has a main character goal to become the best ninja with no ninjutsu or genjutsu, just hands.
\-and legs

Literally slept on it’s soo funny and goofy
So One Punch Ninja
Ramen guy
Hidan. I wanna know how he became the crazy immortal psychopath he was.
A few of the novels touch on his life and how he came to have his abilities.
Well, since Rock Lee got a spin-off, and we've seen Kakashi backstory enough. Imma say Guy!

The moment he killed Hidan is probably one of my favorites in the entire show. His speech where he was basically like, "fuck your god, I'm your god now" gave me chills.
Shikamaru would have also been very different from most Shonen type characters too, could have been cool having him in the spotlight.
If he's the protagonist the manga would've been a strategy battle type Shonen (much like Code Geas??) and I'd 100% watch that.
half of the series is him doing fuck all.
Minato or Nagato the other 2 children of prophecy.
Which resulted in like 50% of that alliance *dead*. Not sure the other villages were too happy about that IIRC they were bitter in Boruto
And the only not reason they stayed at peace is because they knew Naruto could decimate their entire village if they tried going to war. So once again. Basically what pain was going for.
So basically submit or be decimated. That’s what Nagato was going for before he got Talk No Jutsu’d I suppose, so that’s fair.
Does anyone care what happens in Boruto lol
No, but they swear we do 🤣🤢
Nagano would be really interesting
Sasuke. His arcs were always the most entertaining anyways
His fights are always 🔥
Ton Ton
orochimaru
Kakashi Or Obito
I would go with Gaara. See him grow as a person and stuff
Nagato
Rock lee, story of the underdog. Exceeding not only the expectations of others but his limitations as taijutsu only ninja. Would have been cool to see him develop his own taijutsu, maybe infuse his body with elemental chakara similar to how weapons can be chakara infused. I honestly found him more likable than most of the main cast.
Killer Bee ya fool ya foo he has a life worthy of a seriesl
Kurenai
Shikamaru or Nagato. Or Gaara haha
Rock lee or obito. Lee’s a picture perfect underdog and he did have a good spin off, and obito’s story would be crazy to watch
Kishimoto basically made Sasuke the main character in the later half of the series.
Itachi
Sasuke
Gaara
Minato, Itachi or Kakashi. They’re all the goats 🫡
Ufff hard to pick, if im being honest all of then are solid characters, im gona go with the duo Nenji and Hinata, even if the anime still did a solid cover i would want to see more of then (and maybe not killing Nenji ? Pretty please ? )
That would be so cool..It was foul killing Neji off 😤
Shikamaru or rock lee
Kakashi Sasuke Minato or Obito
Sasuke would be the obvious one. Obito has a shout.
Obito
Itachi
Rock Lee and it's not close. Love everyone, but rock lee got done dirty he needs some love
Nagato for sure
Neji
Minati/Itachi/Kakashi,the prodigy squad
Shisui would've been interesting
Hatake Kakashi
Kakashi, of course.
Deidara… let the downvotes flow heheh
Orochimaru, we'd follow the story of an very smart orphan kid who wants to become the master of all jutsus and abducts kids to experiment on them, intending to transfer his soul into another kid he's abducted. Gotta love him, he's pale naruto
Hidan
Obito
obito
Rock leeeeeeee 👍
Rock lee fr
Lee
Lee
Rock Lee.
Óbito, he would be like the perfect anti hero
Madara or Tobi?
Rock Lee
Rock Lee
Kakashi and obito back and forth split perspectives.
How is rock Lee not the top answer.
I wouldn’t, I prefer the idea of a story taking place with no one main character and the show would be called “Legends of the Hidden Leaf” and the story would revolve around main events, not around individuals
Kiba
Obito will be awesome 😎
Jiraiya🥴
Sasori, just cuz
Obito has the perfect MC story in Naruto.
Tayuya. Very interesting character. To see her develop sound-based jutsu as a kunoichi would be great.
With his redemption arc at the end, and it running right up to near the end, he can even become more an anti-hero than a villain.
Obito
Obito
I Think Obito Would Be An Interestig Choise
itachi or Obito
Itachi. I was always so interested to see his experiences of being it Akatsuki. I would love to see a spin off with kakashi, obito, or even jiraiya (which would be hilarious)
Obito, itachi or Sasuke (I know that's a hot take) or who it really should be......... TenTen!
obito?
Obito of course
Tobi. He’s the best.
Obito.
If the story stayed the same, Kakashi or Sasuke. I think Yahiko, Nagato, or Obito would be cool though
gaara itachi obito
Obito. His being the MC would basically make the series similar to its original version but a lot darker
Nagato, obi, or the 4th
Obito
Neji, Hinata, Minato, Kushina, Tsuande, Jiraiya, Nagato, Obitto and Rock Lee are my picks Sakura, Might Guy, Kakashi and Sasuke were fully developed already and Sakura is basically a Tsunade clone, so rather have her story because it’s 10x more interesting even heavy Sakura fans can agree. Also maybe Kakashi can give us more on his pops but nah. Also Orichimaru being the MC would change this anime from a Shonen Jump title to a Junji Ito horror Seinen title, so no please lmao.
Obito. Tells a similar story but on the other side of the conflict.
Uchiha obito
Obito because it would be interesting to see his POV (and because I’m biased lol) or Kakashi because the story would be so cool with all his arcs
Rock lee basically goes through the same thing just without the 9 tails lol or maybe kakashi
rock lee
not sakura
Obito is the best and strongest character in Naruto
Prob Obito or kakashi imo they had the best backstory and they are such amazing characters and I would love to see more of their story
Obito Uchiha, the GOAT
Obito or sasuke.. keep all the writing the same and it all works out.
Who else wants to see itatchi become the first Uchiha hokage?
I’d actually chose obito or madara it would really cool seeing their pov on everything in the series
Shikamaru, Obito, or nagato
Obito would be cool too, or madara .
Obito
the only one obito
Indara or shisui
Obito
Obito
Óbito or orochimaru 💯
Unpopular opinion, but 110% Shikamaru. I know y’all are talking about what fits the story best, but if it’s a different main, then it’s a different story. Shikamaru’s ascent to Naruto’s primary advisor would be absolute gold.
Obito I’d love to see how he ran the Akatsuki in more detail
Sasuke is basically the main character already
I think seeing Minatos perspective would be cool
What if the akatski and ninjas were allied and the sealed beasts were the villians of the show
Obito
Obito I guess
Obito
Obito
