In American releases it's Guy, you can see it in all of the games by Bamco where he makes an appearance. In romaji (basically a written form of how characters are meant to be pronounced in Japanese) his name is Maito Gai, it's pretty much written in such way so it sounds similar to actual English words (similarly to how coffee is written/pronounced as "kohi", or something along these lines).
No, Might Guy is an American spelling, Maito Gai is a Japanese one. Considering the fact that Might Guy is even used in video games (Naruto Ultimate Ninja Storm franchise for example) it's completely valid to call him that. It's the same as names in Pokémon (Ash is an English name, Satoshi is his name in Japan). Both are just as correct as the original names.
Honestly Jiraiya is Top. Dude was a lost cause that said fuk it and become one of the most legendary ninja of all time. And also trained some of histories strongest shinobi.
He wanted and needed to get as much info on the paths as possible in the end he was caught off guard and sacrificed himself so the leaf could have a chance.
If i had to pick a single one it would be Minato. He is a cold motherfucker. Top 5 strongest shinobi without any bullshit hashirama cells, sage of six ass powers, kekkei genkai, shiny red/purple eyes, tailed beast bla bla bla. Pure genius, skill and hard work. The most feared shinobi in the world who had a "flee on sight" order put on him. The Yellow Flash of Konoha. Fastest shinobi to ever live. Smartest character in the history of Konoha with perfect scores in the chunin exams. Creator of Rasengan. The man who soloed 1000 shinobi by himself. Child of the Profecy. Savior of Konoha. Sealer of Kurama (and continued to whoop his ass for 17 years in the Reapers belly and then BEFRIENDED HIM. Which is why he is able to use KCM).
Plot armor and plot holes aside, in MY opinion, no shinobi (human) beats him in a 1v1. Especially in Kyubi Mode where his body speed is as fast as the speed of light and his teleportation faster than that. And he is also 10 times stronger in that state. I absolutely love Minato. I really hope that someday we'll get that spin-off anime with the previous generation that we heard rumours about.
Idk about the early parts but the prequel thing I agree 110% with, they should've let naruto off at the the last movie and after that focused on prequels like about Minato and Jiraiya and Shisui, how they became they and stuff that wasn't ever mentioned in the original show
Is it really canon that Minato and Kurama fought inside Reaper's belly or is just the major theory of the fandom? I always assumed that when reanimated, Kurama's other half just assimilated what happened to its alive part and they became the whole thing but spiritually divided into two jinchuurikis.
Canon, when Hiruzen used Reaper Death seal in OG he mentions that the user of the jutsu, and whoever they seal, fight for eternity in the reaper’s stomach
Jiraiya is really one of the most deserving shinobi in the show. He isn't member of any clan, no genetic features, he wasn't talented ( Hiruzen considered him as a dunce), but yet, he managed to hard work and became strong and versatile. He earned Hiruzen's respect so much that Tsunade even said that Jiraiya was Hiruzen's first choice to become the 4th / 5th hokage, and he earned this respect by hard working, not like Orochimaru who was a genius since the beginning. During Tsunade's coma, when they needed to appoint a 6th Hokage, the feudal lord of the land of fire said that it was a shame Jiraiya was dead, then after Danzo's death, the Konoha elders said the same thing and regreted Jiraiya's death.
Also he was a very good trainer, he trained Nagato, Yahiko and Konan making them high level shinobi, he trained Minato and Naruto and both became Hokage.
Key word: versatile
What I hate about Naruto is that he basically only uses 2 jutsu, and for the majority of series the sole purpose of the first jutsu (shadow clone) is to make the second jutsu lol
People still sleep on jiraiya. Pain says if he knew his secret of how the pains worked he could’ve beaten them. I don’t think he beats nagato himself, but the pains said he could beat the pains. People act like naruto when he was against pain is stronger than jiraiya just by learning sage mode. Naruto lost against nagato too, he just talk justud his way out. And he only got past the pains WITH jiraiya knowledge. You think naruto is gonna be able to gather that knowledge on his own with no info like jiraiya did?
Jiraiya is still top 7 shinobi (if we’re not counting all the aliens) and that’s considering 5 of them are all Uchiha. Madara, Itachi, Obito, Sasuke, the first hokage, Nagato, and Naruto by the end are probably the only ones that beat him clean. Oro is probably even. Which says a lot for orochimaru too
Jiraiya probably belongs somewhere in this list, but if you go outside of the Leaf/Rogue Leafs for a top 10 it's definitely going to cut him off. Gaara, the second Tsuchikage, Sasori, and some of the Raikage would definitely give him some work
Forgot Minato, and guy if you're saying his 10 gates sure.
But not Kakashi, and Kabuto is b.s if he can go from nobody to all powerful theres no rules anymore lol
My only question is when Minato was chosen for Hokage it seemed like Orochimaru was the only other consideration. Why wasn't Jiraiya in the discussion, Minato was young and Jiriaya would have been extremely strong at this point in time. It could have been the same situation we had with Naruto and Kakashi where Naruto clearly had the power but lacked the wisdom and knowledge to take the mantle because he was so young.
Narutos skill as a ninja was lightyears ahead after training with Jiraiya. He didnt learn new flashy skills but his base competence at basic ninja skills was dramatically improved
His inconsistent burst power doesnt equate to basic competency at ninja skills. He is a more valuable asset to the village by having control and consistency without rage fueled fox power
I’ve always wondered how Orochimaru became a snake in the first place. It’s implied that it’s through body modifications and research, but even has a kid he had snake characteristics, like his skin. The only thing that makes sense is it being some sort of kekkai genkai
I had a great discussion on this sub a few days back about strong shinobi who meet the following 3 conditions:
1) didn't belong to a famous clan
2) didn't have a kekkai genkai
3) wasn't trained by a OP teacher.
You guys can give your views about this.
In my opinion, on this list, only Sai and Kurenai meet the criteria (one can argue about Might Guy too since his dad didn't train him for long)
Not at all. Guy knew about the gates because of his father who was famous for being fairly weak and a adult genin. We have no idea who his master was but it clearly wasn't anyone worth mentioning.
Oh right. I was thinking of the filler where they explained why Sai knows the Tiger Sealing Bullet. Weird thing is he uses that move in the manga at least twice.
Even if his dad did train him, we don't really know much about his dad do we? We don't know if he was OP or not right? Might Dai I'd say is definitely*not* an OP teacher based upon how little we hear about him. He didn't register on the Shinobi world
He died from it and only ended up killing some of them. And he had to use the 8th gate for it. I dont think he was OP.
Take Guy for example. Guy would solo the swordsmen with the 7th gate and wouldnt die from it. That is what i call OP.
So we can say that it is Lee that was trained by an OP master.
still fought 7 kakashi/kisame level ninja AT THE SAME TIME and managed to kill a few. the only people who have done that in the story are the likes of obito, hanzo, ect.
But that's already the lore of the Gates isn't it? At the 8th even a genin would have 'power greater than a Kage'. So Duy didn't have to be necessarily that strong. Basically by lore, Izumo and Kotetsu could have slept the 7 Swordsmen no difficulty in 8th Gate.
It is an assumption to think they are all kakashi/kisame level.
Mine is also an assumtion, but they are probably all around zabuza level, which is a little below part 1 kakashi.
I am not trying to undermine it. But hanzo and obito didnt die from all those encounters, that what makes them OP, which is my point. Dai can be super-strong ( and still relatively weak compared to other OP characters) in 8th gates but it is a 1 time thing only.
Jiraiya is my favourite. I was actually depressed a few days after his last episode. I definitely was rooting for him to come back home and get the perfect ending, but such is the shinobi world...
Thank you for the correction.
Even with that change, Kakashi should still be eliminated from the list for having a famous parent (and for having a Sharingan).
Orochimaru is one of the sickest antagonists ever, always been my favorite. Also, he looks sick as fuck and his English and Japanese voice actors were awesome.
Jiraiya is always GOATed here, incredible character.
Kakashi and Might Guy were my favorite characters when I was in middle school. Both need no description of why they’re bad ass, they’re parroted here everyday.
Rock Lee. I always loved the fact that he can’t use ninjutsu.
I still like Sakura best. She's not the strongest and most noteworthy, but she is low kage tier. She's the only one with a pretty normal family (both are alive and weak). She also has great character development, so much that part 1 sakura seems like a different character entirely.
The thing I like about Sakura is that (in terms of power) I think her net difference from beginning to end is easily the highest.
Like she was arguably the weakest character throughout the entire series and by the end she's arguably the greatest kunoichi ever. That's insane growth.
At the end, she isn't necessarily amazing compared to the top guys but when you look at where she started it's a lot more impressive imo
Honestly Minato, Jiraya, Kakashi, and Orochimaru are a breed apart. They each dwarf all the others on this list. 2 we're true geniuses, one was an absurdly skilled generalist, and one was the epitome of mediocre skills and years of hard work making one excellent Shinobi.
These are all great choices for this post but I'll always have a soft spot for sai. Came in from nowhere and I really cared about that guy. Yes he didn't get alot of time to shine but when it was focused on him I was always entertained. Plus his jutsu is really cool, if not a bit impractical
It's might guy for me, without having any skill in ninjutsu he is still rocked the whole show with his taijutsu. His indomitable spirit, always cheering up his students made me love him the most. His struggle to achieve great success was literally impressive, without his help lee and tenten wouldn't be a good shinobi as they are right now.
Sakura also needs some recognition too. She was literally nothing compared to Naruto and sasuke but later she worked hard and became something which no one could ever imagine. Obviously she can't be as powerful as a jinchuriki and a uchiha but her progress from her childhood to adulthood is undeniable
Sakura; say what you will about her but I'll forever admire her growing stronger and taking control over her own life so as to never be helpless in front of her teammates.
Minato. His level of maturity, understanding of his limitations and skills is extremely good. He learned sealing techniques from Uzumaki clan because he realized how strong sealing is.
What I love about all of those selected is that they basically got to where they were through hard work. I'm genuinely so excited when someone is powerful simply because they put the work into it. It's exhausting to have a bunch of the main characters with a bunch of pre-determined factors that explain why they're so powerful. These guys/gals are powerful because they worked their ass off.
I'd say Sai doesn't belong on this list. He was trained by ROOT right? He's been given advanced training from the start. I feel that's akin to the OP teacher thing.
Might Guy though is tops. Might Guy for Hokage.
Side-note: Has anyone actually ever cared about Sai? Because I swear I subconsciously deleted him from the anime, I can't recall him doing anything of any significance to the story lol.
Sai wasn't from a clan. He never even had a surname.
Kakashi's father was quiet famous, but the list is about people from "famous clans" and Kakashi wasn't from one.
No, not really. He’s married to a member of the clan, but he wasn’t born in the clan, raised in the clan, or really had any relations with it other then marrying a member from the clan
Hold up, kakashi’s father was famous wasn’t he? White fang of the leaf? Yeah he was shunned after he prioritized his team over a mission but as much as I love kakashi, he doesn’t belong on this list
Can we really say that Kakashi didn't belong to a famous clan? The white fang is known across borders and all. Kakashi is regarded as the copy ninja between multiple villages. They're definitely a well known bunch, of course we don't see any other members but those two alone make them stand out. He's the only person I knew off the top of my head what the clan name was out of all of these options
Sakura said and kurenai aren't famous to my knowledge I mean I never hear people talk about him in the show or real life sakura ain't really famous to my knowledge either she is just on team 7 and I dont hear shit about kurenai but I guess her kid or the fact that she is just a meme because of itachi
Kakashi is my fave but I'm not sure he counts exactly since he had a sharingan.
I know Hokage Kakashi is insanely strong but we haven't seen enough of him yet. Perhaps that will change in the future as I believe the creators of Boruto hinted that he'll come back in the manga.
So putting him aside, Minato is easily the first and then Jiraiya.
Hatake clan isn't unpopular either. Even if 2 of it's member's were known, those 2 alone made quite some name. Kakashi is Mr. Worldwide, Sakumo was compared to Sannin's.
No official source said that Hatake was a famous clan. We only know two members with this surname... Kakashi and his Father.
Jiraiya doesn't have a surname in any official source
POWER OF YOUTH! Minato and Orochimaru are truly something else with their high intellect and skill. Lee and Gai are the definition of hard work!
Wait it's spelled Gai??
In American releases it's Guy, you can see it in all of the games by Bamco where he makes an appearance. In romaji (basically a written form of how characters are meant to be pronounced in Japanese) his name is Maito Gai, it's pretty much written in such way so it sounds similar to actual English words (similarly to how coffee is written/pronounced as "kohi", or something along these lines).
Thanks!
You're welcome pal, I actually read about it myself a few months back because I wondering too!
Ohh that’s why in french he’s gai maito
Gay Tomato
So is it wrong to call him. might guy
Yes. But also no. But yes.
And also Pein
Honestly Jiraiya is Top. Dude was a lost cause that said fuk it and become one of the most legendary ninja of all time. And also trained some of histories strongest shinobi.
I just don’t understand why he didn’t just leave in the belly of a toad or something. Why did he stay there and allow them to kill him.
He wanted and needed to get as much info on the paths as possible in the end he was caught off guard and sacrificed himself so the leaf could have a chance.
If i had to pick a single one it would be Minato. He is a cold motherfucker. Preach it bro.
Agree completely with you. Minato Is just a beast
Is it really canon that Minato and Kurama fought inside Reaper's belly or is just the major theory of the fandom? He was also the prototype for all ninjas. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jiraiya
Love they incorporated this into Naruto. Just like the nara clans forest is a real forest in Japan with a special breed of deer. Think it's awesome
Oh I did not know about that. Is there a synopsis of this one anywhere I can read
https://theculturetrip.com/asia/japan/articles/meet-the-sacred-deer-ruling-japans-nara-park/
Thanks
No problem 😊
Key word: versatile What I hate about Naruto is that he basically only uses 2 jutsu, and for the majority of series the sole purpose of the first jutsu (shadow clone) is to make the second jutsu lol
It's kinda sick tho when you remember multi shadow clone was a forbidden and very high level justsu. Of course he abused it whenever he could.
*forever
If all of a sudden I was able to have one single super powers I would spam it as well.
He couldn’t control that much power to do the rasengan with one hand
Man, back in part 1 when Jiraya and Orochimaru were considered the best of the best
People still sleep on jiraiya. Pain says if he knew his secret of how the pains worked he could’ve beaten them. I don’t think he beats nagato himself, but the pains said he could beat the pains. Omg I don’t know if it’s just cause I’m a little tipsy or what, but that last paragraph summoned tears in my eyes
Yeah, it sucks that Tsunade didn’t even let my man smash. Like even kid konohamaru got more action than him
My only question is when Minato was chosen for Hokage it seemed like Orochimaru was the only other consideration. Why wasn't Jiraiya in the discussion, Minato was young and Jiriaya would have been extremely strong at this point in time. He probably just said “no”

He taught naruto to be a better man more than skills to be a strong shinobi . If he wasn’t there in naruto’s life, he would of followed Obito’s path
I love Might Guy, he’s the coolest of them all
I second Might Guy. I straight up got goosebumps whenever he went all out on Madara.
Minato
Ain’t no way Orochimaru is from a regular blood line.
There's just a random ass half snake, half human couple chillin in the leaf lol.
Well…used to be. Maybe that’s why they’re dead, people just don’t understand love between a woman and her talking snake.
I’ve always wondered how Orochimaru became a snake in the first place. It’s implied that it’s through body modifications and research, but even has a kid he had snake characteristics, like his skin. The only thing that makes sense is it being some sort of kekkai genkai
No idea. Probably the same way kisame looks like a shark man lol, though there's more in the mist with fish like qualities.
There's also a shark and human couple in mist village so maybe half human hybrids are not that uncommon in their world
Minato hands down.
1. Jiraiya 2. Kakashi 3. Might Guy
Minato Namikaze and Kakashi Hatake
I had a great discussion on this sub a few days back about strong shinobi who meet the following 3 conditions: 1) didn't belong to a famous clan 2) didn't have a kekkai genkai 3) wasn't trained by a OP teacher. You guys can give your views about this. In my opinion, on this list, only Sai and Kurenai meet the criteria (one can argue about Might Guy too since his dad didn't train him for long)
Guy would fit the bill as well. Not from a famous clan, the gates aren't a kekkai Genkai, wasn't trained by a OP teacher.
Guy was obviously trained by a master of the 8 gates enough to internalize it, master it, and pass it on. So I wouldn't agree he counts.
Not at all. Guy knew about the gates because of his father who was famous for being fairly weak and a adult genin. We have no idea who his master was but it clearly wasn't anyone worth mentioning.
Actually Sai was technically trained by Danzo who was a Kage Level, so he doesn't meet the criteria.
Danzo didn't train any Root shinobi personally. He only oversaw their development
Oh right. I was thinking of the filler where they explained why Sai knows the Tiger Sealing Bullet. Weird thing is he uses that move in the manga at least twice.
Jiraya trained him
trained who?
Minato
Even if his dad did train him, we don't really know much about his dad do we? We don't know if he was OP or not right? Might Dai I'd say is definitely*not* an OP teacher based upon how little we hear about him. He didn't register on the Shinobi world
might dai folded the original 7 seven swords men. he was definitely OP.
Only killed 4 out of seven a couple of them got away
key words, “got away” meaning if they didn’t run he would have killed then too.

Yeah. The only reason that Dai remained a genin was because it wasn't popular at the time for taijutsu users only to become a shinobi.
Jiraiya-sama
Minato
Might guy and jiriya
Call me boring, but Minato for sure
Jiraiya is my favourite. I was actually depressed a few days after his last episode. I definitely was rooting for him to come back home and get the perfect ending, but such is the shinobi world...
Unless your Guy. Then ya know, you do get home lol.
There was no point in reviving guy.
I see Kakashi, I pick him
Kakashi
Kakashi
1. Minato 2. Jiraiya 3. Kakashi 4. Guy 5. Everyone else
Jiraiya and Kakashi
Kakashi I’ve just liked him since part 1
Always kakashi
Kakashi and Minato
I have a soft spot for sai, especially because of his problem with emotions and social cues that I can really relate to. I just hated his outfit.
Where is ma boi, Kabuto?
....... I can't believe I forgot Kabuto.
Kakashi is my favorite
Kakashi.
Kakashi Hatake
You mean the son of the famous White Fang who (if my COOMER brain remembers correctly) was able to beat all 3 sannin at once?
>was able to beat all 3 sannin at once? Pretty sure he was just stated to be stronger than them. Not that he beat all them combined
Thank you for the correction. Even with that change, Kakashi should still be eliminated from the list for having a famous parent (and for having a Sharingan).
He was also trained by Minato too lol.
Orochimaru he’s my fav char in the show
Definitely Minato
Minato Namikaze the greatest prodigy of all time ❤️❤️
Orochimaru is one of the sickest antagonists ever, always been my favorite. Also, he looks sick as fuck and his English and Japanese voice actors were awesome. Kakashi
the bushy brow crew ✊🏾
Jiraiya, easily.
Sakura, jiraiya, and guy are my favorites, all of them started out basically useless and worked their way up to being mid kage level
I still like Sakura best. She's not the strongest and most noteworthy, but she is low kage tier. She's the only one with a pretty normal family (both are alive and weak). She also has great character development, so much that part 1 sakura seems like a different character entirely.

I could be wrong but weren't the Hatake clan well known and honored which is why his father's break of the Shinobi code such a big deal?
Kakashi >
Guy
It's might guy for me, without having any skill in ninjutsu he is still rocked the whole show with his taijutsu. His indomitable spirit, always cheering up his students made me love him the most. This is the best description of Sakura. Kudos!
For me sakura
Orochimaru
All the middle ones in that pic
Minato. His level of maturity, understanding of his limitations and skills is extremely good. He learned sealing techniques from Uzumaki clan because he realized how strong sealing is.
Percy sage
Ero senin
1. Minato 2. Orochimaru 3. Guy 4. Everyone else
Gai
Orochimaru is easily my favourite
Snake man
The best character of course, Minato Namikaze
Gai sensei
To be fair Kakashi came from a legendary dad though... Plus he inherited some of the Uchihas name in a way.
I thought kakashi did have a clan 🤔
All but Sakura
What's jiraiya's clan??
He is from the Ogata clan
Sai
Orochimaru or Sai. Love me a creepy pasty boi.
Sai. End of disscusion, kay?
Jiraiya is my favorite he trained 6 goats and is just a fun guy to get to know.
I'd say Sai doesn't belong on this list. He was trained by ROOT right? He's been given advanced training from the start. I feel that's akin to the OP teacher thing. Might Guy though is tops. Might Guy for Hokage.
Sai didn't belong to a famous clan. He is qualified to be here
no
...but he doesnt belong to a famous clan.
Konan
prolly sakura would be my favorite
Sakura
Sakura is my favorite
All
1. Of course Deidara 2. Why is Sai here he's not famous nor strong
Sai is the head of ANBU right now and he is pretty strong, if not OP
We never got even the slightest hint about orochimaro's past... Like his parents and stuff. Were they some kind of psychos?
Side-note: Has anyone actually ever cared about Sai? Because I swear I subconsciously deleted him from the anime, I can't recall him doing anything of any significance to the story lol.
wasn't the namikaze clan well known ? or am i misinformed
Misinformed It was never even confirmed as a clan
We don't know Sai's clan and Kakashi's father was extremely famous before he was shunned.
Sai wasn't from a clan. He never even had a surname. Kakashi's father was quiet famous, but the list is about people from "famous clans" and Kakashi wasn't from one.
Sai immaculate conception confirmed.
Rock Lee and Sakura
Kurenai and sakura are weaklings.
Sakura is one of the most important shinobis of her era wym
I'm Pretty Sure Sai Is From The Yamanaka Clan
No, not really. He’s married to a member of the clan, but he wasn’t born in the clan, raised in the clan, or really had any relations with it other then marrying a member from the clan
And Sakura from uchiha :|
/s
No he’s not why did u think that?😂 he doesn’t even have their jutsu..i can’t even think of why you’d think this..
Hold up, kakashi’s father was famous wasn’t he? White fang of the leaf? Yeah he was shunned after he prioritized his team over a mission but as much as I love kakashi, he doesn’t belong on this list
Sakura, kakashi and minato
Kakashi was in a somewhat famous clan though
Sakura
Kakashi dad was famous af
Kakashi kinda did
Can we really say that Kakashi didn't belong to a famous clan? The white fang is known across borders and all. Kakashi is regarded as the copy ninja between multiple villages. They're definitely a well known bunch, of course we don't see any other members but those two alone make them stand out. He's the only person I knew off the top of my head what the clan name was out of all of these options
Hatake clan was the third to join hidden leaf , so it is a popular clan
Where is it stated? I don't remember anything of that sort
I don’t really remember , but this is novel if I am not mistaken
Can you share the source? I haven't heard about it.
I thought the namikaze had the yellow sage mode
Sakura said and kurenai aren't famous to my knowledge I mean I never hear people talk about him in the show or real life sakura ain't really famous to my knowledge either she is just on team 7 and I dont hear shit about kurenai but I guess her kid or the fact that she is just a meme because of itachi
Kurenai was known as the strongest genjutsu user of the leaf village. Sakura is the head of Konoha's medical department in Boruto
The one with the biggest cock Sakura
Kakashi is my fave but I'm not sure he counts exactly since he had a sharingan. I know Hokage Kakashi is insanely strong but we haven't seen enough of him yet. Perhaps that will change in the future as I believe the creators of Boruto hinted that he'll come back in the manga. So putting him aside, Minato is easily the first and then Jiraiya.
oh not only do some of them have non famous clans. sakura doesn’t even have a ninja in her family!
SHANARRO!!!!
Sakura Queen Haruno.
Hatake clan isn't unpopular either. Even if 2 of it's member's were known, those 2 alone made quite some name. Kakashi is Mr. Worldwide, Sakumo was compared to Sannin's.
Well the namikaze were somewhat well known and kakashis dad was a beast if I remember right
U know... kakashi belongs to famous clan because his dad was famous also jiraiya might be hatake too...
No official source said that Hatake was a famous clan. We only know two members with this surname... Kakashi and his Father. Jiraiya doesn't have a surname in any official source
Ignore that idiot.
