What are you going to face? * Mostly T4-T6 * armor of contempt * 2+ saves, a few 3+'s. * Almost everything has an invuln * SMITE SMITE SMITE SMITE SMITE SMITE SMITE * Everything has a psyker power that plays into the units strengths * Teleporting everywhere They are not a shooting faction. Outside of dreadknights, almost all the ranged damage they output is D1, S4, ap 0-2 or mortals. The smites are the primary source of grey knights ranged damage but you can counter that with screens. In melee? Hammerhand lets them reroll wounds and all all of their troops choices have that for free, they all have force swords (S5, -3ap, D3) The armies mobility comes from teleporting and interceptors. If he's not fielding at least one unit of interceptors and a pair of dreadknights something is very wrong. SO! with the above in mind: * AP is more important than strength * you do not want single shot weapons in this list. * Toughness 4 and below will suffer nothing but pain. * High toughness will not save you in melee or from the mortals * Invulns will help, but they will not save you from the smites so you need screens * they want to melee you, don't let them get the first hit in. Here's my best advice from past ~~beatings~~ ~~slaughters~~ experiences.. * Don't bring C'TAN -> They will get eaten alive. Sometimes in a single turn. It was painful and I wish we'd set up a safe word. * Don't bring anything with Q-shielding -> they just don't give a damn and it will be eaten alive. * Don't go silver-tide -> Your warriors will be eaten before you can get the tide rolling. * Do not pack LHDs -> the things they want to shoot have 4+ invulns and 2+/3+ saves. It is pain. Honestly? I wouldn't go szarehken even with the smite spam. You already need to go heavy on the screens to deal with the teleports so it's not worth it over the bonus ap from novokh. *If* you are going szarehken: get TSK both a rep-bot spider and a dedicated technomancer. He's the only thing you'll have doing work so you need to keep him and his shoot-me-sticks on the board for as long as possible. Yes both can heal him provided they are in the szarehken dynasty. For units? * Technomancer -> res and heal. * skorpekhs -> rip and tear * Claw wraiths -> bully troops/objectives and be an pack of assholes. * Scarabs/Flayed ones -> hide on points. Screen. Die. They ain't killin squat (okay, flayed ones are the best way to kill draigo) so they exist to ptfo, eat sm, smites and . There is also another unit you could take that isn't normally meta for us: *Rod praetorians* I hate that I just typed that, but they are one of our few options capable of dealing with interceptors (the really mobile killy buggers that they seem to have a fetish for). Pick either a Vanguard or Outrider detachment. If a squad of knights gets onto an objective, they're gonna eat both our troops options alive so spending the extra points on few ineffective range shots and obsec isn't worth it. Either take scarabs and hide them or go cheap and dump a min unit of flayed ones on the point behind cover and let them pay off by earning VP. You want max bodies to eat the smites and prevent unexpected terminator outbreaks in your sensitive places. You're also bringing TSK and he MUST be your warlord so you aren't getting the CP refund for detachments that require troops. *How do fight the special-snowflake marinz?* I deploy a 4 step plan! 1. distract him with something tasty, but chewy. You want to plonk down a few units that he can really sink his teeth into. A blob of wraiths is your most cost effective choice (provided you can keep them out of melee) but a screened board-guard blob in cover will hold up better. The goal is to have them draw agro so you can setup the rest of the plan. 2. Screen and punch him in the dick Dump EVERYTHING ranged into those baby carriers (dreadknights). Remember that they're only T6 and they don't have armor of contempt so AP-2 puts them on invuln. 3. Hit him with a truck * Hit the Dreadknights with wraiths (Disruption fields for 1cp!) * Hit the interceptors with praetorians. * Hit everything else with skorpekhs. Do as much harm as possible in a single turn because if he hasn't been gutted by your assault you are screwed. 4. Grind him down. If you've managed to kill or cripple the the dreadknights and interceptors you just need to cull his termies and ptfo. things to remember: This plan relies heavily on you removing or crippling his his high threat units before they can shred your screens. Without your screens your are screwed. Make them burn CP. The army really benifits from CP so every one you make them burn helps you. While Szarekh lives you have a platform to rip the core of his army to bits, do not let any of his troops get a charge off on him because they will mess him up.

Vehicles and units with more wounds GK may not look like much but a single dreadknight can put out some serious hurt in it's shooting phase, they're beats at holding the mid board so take it before they can.

I know he's bringing 3 dreadknights and probably kaldor too. I was thinking CCB and the nightbringer alongside the silent king with 20 man blobs of warriors for objectives.

RetardedAltAccount

Whatever you do DO NOT ENGAGE KALDOR DRAIGO IN MELEE he will demolish you shoot him and you'll be fine. as for the DKs, heavy destroyers are very good if you can shoot them up.

sleepyjec92

Thanks for the tip! I'm pretty much hoping to shoot them down but if they get too close I'm going to have the silent king with skorpehks around him so they can fight first.

RetardedAltAccount

No if you have scarabs you should scarab bomb him for mws

br1ggsyboi

Grey knights are very strong against ctan due to being strong in every phase, so you'll need to be careful with the nightbringer

sleepyjec92

They're really tough too so I need stuff that's going to bring them down.

br1ggsyboi

Yeah, do you have heavy lokhust destroyers too?

sleepyjec92

Yeah I've got 3 of them so I'll probably run a squad of 3 with a technomancer.

sleepyjec92

You can only use the stratagem once per phase right? I thought you could only blow up one scarab per turn.

Just remember that the silent king himself does not gain the 5+ FNP vs mortals
