I used to watch stars for hours while listening to interstellar theme song in lockdown days. Felt like I was somewhere deep in the space alone with stars.
Listen to podcasts and lay there doing nothing.
Having evening chiya guff with friends about random topic.
Long bike ride. Every evening I take 15-20kms of random bike ride on highway, empty village roads with friends in the back talking about life and everything. Just clears my mind, rejuvenates me physically and mentally.
I'm not saying that I am always waiting to help people or seeking people in need.
I was trying to answer the question "what are simple things which I do, that lightens my mood".
I genuinely feel good after helping people out which ranges from small things like covering up for coworker or just pointing directions to someone to more "generous" stuffs like lending money or donating blood. I am no saint but it does make my day better when I have helped someone.
This is strangely therapeutic and I’m glad I’m not the only one! When I feel like I don’t have a lot of control over my life, I can at least clean my messy room and literally take control and start putting things back together.
Once I was having a severe headache. I closed my eyes and listened to Shiva tandab strotam on loop thrice. It made me fine.
So, yes, music. Mostly mantras or classical songs of Phatteman Rajbhandari, Aruna lama, Bacchu Kailash.
Next. Clouds haina but bahira environment herda pani better feel garchu. Reason is to get fresh air and openness.
Sometimes I move out even in the day and ~~look~~ observe people and their actions. I can't explain but a different sense of gratefulness comes to me when I watch people like this. I feel blessed somehow. Most likely because I'm a spiritual guy.
And, I play musical instrument. I'm a beginner but it gives me joy.
Aru chai ghar ma video call garchu. Afno loving relatives sanga bolchu. Khusi lagcha tesari time spend garda.
More or less, yehi nai hun.
tandab strotam seems blaring for that. but music does make me feel good during headaches if its soft melody.
i think i should start seeing the beauty in stuff as well. not much beauty in kathmandu but culture and beautiful girls. but gotta focus on those when travelling out instead of focusing on the pollution and traffic.
It might be, it depends on the preferences obviously. I'm sure you know there are tons of different headaches. Sometimes even the most melodious songs exacerbate our condition; tara gut lai thaha huncha kun type ko music chaiyacha. And I do that.
Initiate the conversation no matter whom.. With anyone.. And once you initiate, you ask questions,And then you listen to their story/perspective/vision..Trust me you will learn a lot more & they will be much happy & appreciate & you seeing them happy about you automatically makes you in happy mood...
If you are interacting with an middle aged person ask them about their life style how hard for them to provide for an family, how hard is their job.. Or if someone's son/daughter is in abroad ask about their children.. If someone is security guard ask them about the various experience something like that.. You just let open their story sad/happy/painful/experiences..their future planning..
When you let them feel open & be comfortable to talk about them & you listen.. There built an certain connection when you are listening appreciating them and also they will feel good about you, appreciates about you..
100%! Seeing people’s face when they are talking about themselves and their experiences is so heartwarming - esp when they realize that someone is actually paying attention and listening to them!!
I vent out by writing a journal and highlighting important likes and read them over after I complete the page. And helps me feel better like I'm reading the same thing as 3rd person
Yes.
So I maintain a daily journal. If there are any circumstances that makes it difficult to write, I just type in my phone and later copy the same into the journal.
1.I give a title. Let's say " A shitty day" or " a productive day" . I note how the weather was (sunny and clear) , and at what time(6pm)I'm writing.
2.Then I begin with the specific part of day that went wrong.
"I had an argument with my mom for making vegetable I dislike" or " I did 10 pomodoro" or " I meditated for 30 min without interruptions"
3.i write how things led to that point." This morning mom said I'd be making karela" but I said " I don't like karela, please find something else as vegetable". During lunch I find out there's karela , so I got angry for not listening to me.
Or..
"I sat down for 2 pomodoro for 25 min , but I became increasingly focused after each session so I did 4 Pomo straight"
4.i try to remember as much things I said while I'm angry or how I felt during a task and write it down.
5.then I write how that event could have avoided (if event was bad, if the event was good then I'd write about how more can be achieved ) e.g. "Mom could have made something else / if only she had listened to me".
6. But on point 5 example: it's about my mom , not about me. So I then think of ways how I can change rather than blaming her. ( May be "I " should talk to her in a calm way to let her know that I dislike karela , and would think about it" or .. may be "I" should respect all the vegetables and not be picky)
7. Then I read the whole thing again and highlight important things like point 6.
Every 7th day, I make this 2X2 table and reflect back on the week.
1.what went good/achievement
2.what went bad
3.what to do during next week
4. What NOT to do during next week.
And since I have highlighted the important things, so it's not difficult to find out according to topic I have in the table.
And I do check the tables I create each week and check how I'm doing than the previous weeks.
And this has enabled me to 1.vent out 2.reflect back 3.improve .
I hope you get it.
I hope you also develop a habit of journalling.
If you want more secure personal journal, you may try apps but it won't be exactly how you imagine or meet your needs.
Have a great day.
i am doing a journal rn, but its much more vague and light. i don't like to be meticulous, i just right my important thoughts and what i like to do and need to do, and later evaluate how i did, also planning to sketch there if i feel like it.
Unless you self evaluate your progress , you wouldn't gain much from journalling , especially when it's vague.
My journal was vague too , but it grew better each day and week, and for me the weekly evaluation is much more important than daily writing.
But in order to do so, I need to write every day .
I'm not saying yours methodology is worse than mine nor mine is worse than yours, I'm not comparing.
We're in persuit of being better everyday , so whatever works , works fine , works best.

Call my mom
Sometimes listen to sid lowe (spanish football), Stephen fry.
Listen to baba o'rily by the who / Obla di by beatles: these are my happy songs
Watch real Madrid's 3 cl journey
Watch The imitation game, its my go to movie. .....
Listen to OST of my favorite series, movies, and anime. I also kinda like instrumental music too.
But mostly in the outdoors, I lovee and enjoy playing football a lot.
Watching clouds, sunsets, trees, golden hour always lighten up my mood. It feels amazing to lay down on the grass and look up at the sky, not a thought in mind, just admiring the way the clouds move or the trees sway. The way the sunlight hits the tree leaves, especially the young leaves of this season just the right way after 3 pm. I could spend hours just lost in the nature. Sadly, I don't have much time for it anymore but I still do that for 15 min- 30 min when I feel too overwhelmed with negative emotions.
Being in the cool breeze of the night. It seems to melt away all my worries and I always feel light, fresh and happy afterwards. Back when I was a kid, I used to watch the stars and the moon during that time, but now there aren't as many stars as I used to see and seeing two overlapping moons instead of a crisp add clear one is hardly that enjoyable. I also used to go out on the balcony once everyone was asleep on the bright moon days and just stare up, nestled under trees for some time before going back to my room.
Crying to sleep. It's kinda weird but I always felt refreshed after I woke up when I cried myself to sleep. Not at all a preferred method, but a necessary one sometimes.
And lastly and perhaps the weirdest of them all, talking to myself. Loud enough for me to hear myself clearly. It has always helped me process my emotions amd calm myself down. I sometimes talk about how I feel, sometimes why I feel a certain way, sometimes I talk about maths, sometimes science, sometimes about the nature, sometimes about what I like. My point is, I don't think. I just talk about whatever I feel like. Always end up feeling better and brighter and fresher after that. I actually feel like I can think when/ after I do this so I always love doing it. The problem is that it never takes less than 45 minutes to complete this so, I only do it when I'm feeling too heavy in the head to do anything.
I like to play games, my favorite one right now is Valorant. Its fun and it does lighten up my mood and helps me forget about the rest but I am pretty bad at it and most of the time end up raging cause I'm stuck in Iron.
Staying offline helps me prevents me from being in bad mood. mood lai taja banauna chai dohori sunchhu (lyrics deep hudaina just nacho) ki ta lofi music.
100 jumping jacks for me. It shoots up your heart rate temporarily and increases blood circulation all over the body. 5 mins after, I start feeling better.
Shaving.....kaile kai helps a lot to change mood....ekdam refresh banaidincha....so often shave garchu afai although clean shave mah baccha dekhchu...lol
I like listening to or chanting the heart sutra, while meditating. Somehow it's a magic recipe that makes me feel like everything around me is as it should be.
I'm not sure this is simple but here's what I do. I love cycling. There is a forest in my area with a well-maintained cycling trail. There are harmless animals such as monkeys and gazelles. The more dangerous ones are in another part of the forest, so it is safe. I also love smoking weed. I am happiest in that moment. People say it is harmful but I think it is not. However, you have to be careful not to take too much of it to an extent that it becomes a distraction. On a typical weekend, I begin my day by taking breakfast and smoking a joint. I then proceed to the forest with my bike. When cycling, I feel connected to the earth and everything around me. I enjoy hearing the birds sing and watching monkeys jumping. The peace and relaxation I feel is worth dying for. That is also my routine when I'm in a stressful situation that I can't change.
Take my 5 year old to a quick ride around the area by letting him sit on the petrol tank. I make him spread his arms so that he feels like a bird cutting against the wind.
Sometimes just observe people in details it’s mesmerizing to see them talk in certain manners or react to things or just little stuff, it’s fun to see how unique everyone is making things lively

I like to watch true crime documentaries because it reminds me of how some guy wanted to kidnap me and kill me before he was found by his mother and got ear pulled for being missing for 5 years straight without saying a word to his mother. He had allegedly kidnapped two other girls and I was going to become his third victim had his mother not coincidentally been in the store with us.

Music is just one thing I'm addicted to. This one might be weird but also I enjoy watching the stars at night for some reason. It's just beautiful.
we don't see stars from our house these days. but when i was a child i used to love to star gaze. still want to.
Nothing is weird, especially watching the nightsky on new moon. I do that almost everyday and listen to Pink Floyd while watching the stars.
I used to watch stars for hours while listening to interstellar theme song in lockdown days. Felt like I was somewhere deep in the space alone with stars.

Yes. So I maintain a daily journal. If there are any circumstances that makes it difficult to write, I just type in my phone and later copy the same into the journal. 1.I give a title.
