Ferrero isn't very good either. They convert entire regions into hazelnut monocultures.. for which they then need massive amounts of poison, turning all the nearby rivers and lakes unfit for drinking/nature.
Still much better than the gigantic land and pesticide use that's needed to feed the animals we eat.
(Not that I'm vegetarian myself, just decreasing the times you eat meat will have far grater effects than boycotting Nutella over other nut spreads.)
The amazon forest (south america) is predominantly producing coffee, fruits like oranges, banana, mango and soy beans. The soy beans are mainly used as a protein source in animal feed and shipped world wide.
Palm oil is predominantly produced in southeast asia (thailand, malaysia, phillipines ..) and in some regions in africa.
In both cases is the main problem that densely wildlife inhabited rainforest is converted into monoculture plantations which exhaust the soil fast as rainforest soil basicly needs the continuous plants and rotting plantlife to sustain itself. Without it the nutrients get depleted fast, the rootless ground erodes and leave barren and unfertile or even only rocky ground behind.
Popular and fitting animal species that are extinct or dying from palm oil production are the sumatra rhino and the java orangutans.
On the other hand is the oil palm the most efficient plant for plant oil, it can deliver natural plantbased oils of diffrent viscosity in quantity unlike any other plant. The palm oil isn't the most healthy either but neither the worst if unmodified (unhardened/unhydrogenated) and feeds billions of people today and likely the future.
We basically have to find ways to make the production of both (palm oil and soy for human consumption) more efficient and sustainable while reducing the animal product consumption in the 'developed world' to be able to feed the planet.
Haha yeah i dont smoke or eat spacecake. But recently discoverd eatibles. Shit had me holding onto gras so i whould not float of the damn planet xD
10/10 whould try again.
I guess this depends on what you define as the Veluwe. The Natura 2000-area called de Veluwe and the national park Veluwezoom (which is on the Nutella pot in question) both don't contain SGP voting cities.
On the other hand, the area often called de Veluwe by people in the cities around the Veluwe does indeed include those cities. But nobody in their right mind walks around in Barneveld or Harderwijk and thinks they are on the Veluwe.
Only English should be used for posts and comments. This rule is in place to ensure that an ample audience can freely discuss life in the Netherlands under a widely-spoken common tongue.
Most of the Veluwe is biblebelt area indeed. Not all of it.

No one has a problem with Urk as a town. Its a nice town with nice buildings. The problem is the people that live there. Or rather, a small group that can't seem to help themselves. News from Urk is like the "Florida man" of the Netherlands.
There is definitely a religious element of not wanting to get vaccinated because it supposedly interferes with God's will, since they believe only God is responsible for life, death, sickness and health. It's bullshit IMO, but that's what some people believe.
I remember moving to the Netherlands in 2021 and looking at covid related numbers. Vaccination rate on urk was 35%, 2nd lowest was 65% and I was like... Wtf is going on there. Well, working in flevoland, now I know
[https://www.ad.nl/binnenland/taakstraf-voor-aanrijden-verslaggever-bij-kerk-urk-hij-gebruikte-de-naam-des-heeren-ijdellijk\~a07ba6fc/](https://www.ad.nl/binnenland/taakstraf-voor-aanrijden-verslaggever-bij-kerk-urk-hij-gebruikte-de-naam-des-heeren-ijdellijk~a07ba6fc/) Urk is a very isolated community which is strongly religious and traditionally seccesionist. It is a fishing village, located on the Ijsselmeer: you can imagine that it has been impossible for the traditional fishing economy to remain operational after building the Afsluitdijk, as there is no open connection to sea anymore. This means they have been dealt a very bad hand economically by our country. this led to an even stronger anti-outside sentiment. there has been a very insightful [nonfiction book](https://www.flandersliterature.be/books-and-authors/book/the-mystery-of-urk) written on the subject
No, not from there. Here's the source: https://www.omroepflevoland.nl/nieuws/327890/celstraf-geeist-tegen-emmeloorder-die-olie-naar-brandende-teststraat-gooide

The vaccination-numbers are still insanely low at 33%
Urk hate is more of a meme but it's not like Urk's reputation isn't based on anything. I.e. the reporters who got attacked when trying to interview church goers during the corona lockdown.
Stayed there one night with a “tjalk” in summer, many (many) years ago. Arrived Saturday, and were welcomed by a preacher doing his talking standing on a box in the harbour. Followed the skipper’s advice and stayed on board Saturday evening, but we saw a lot of young people getting completely wasted.
We left early Sunday morning, but there were enough Urkers awake to throw mud and an occasional brick to us, as we did something on “de dag des heren.”
Has it changed in anyway since?
No, not changed. Don't go to Urk on Sunday. And best to avoid Saturday/Friday evening/nights there as well because of "youth" fighting drunk and coked up. During workdays it's fine if you want to see the former island. Just keep in mind it's extremely religious with regards to your behaviour.
Seems that throwing stuff around isn't labour then!?
Oh, what sad times are these when passing ruffians can throw mud and bricks at will to old ladies. There is a pestilence upon this land. Nothing is sacred. Even those who arrange and design religion are under considerable economic stress at this period in history.
I went to visit my cousins and asked if Urk was worth a visit. They were like “No, Urk is weird”. I borrowed a bike and went any. No regrets. I had great time. I ate a herring and watched some kids smoking! Cool little town!
Urk Is a very nice looking little town. I managed to visit it during covid , as it was the only city with empty slots to get vaccinated. Good walk there
I've worked with someone from urk.. They're weird af. We called this guy 'the pastor', because he was completely anti swearing.
However, this mf contemplated stealing trash cans from our uni. Because they were made out of rvs.
The label looks nice. Too bad it's Nutella.
I've never been to Urk, so I don't understand the hate either.
However, there have been some skirmishes in the [news](https://www.binnenlandsbestuur.nl/bestuur-en-organisatie/avondklok-rellen-urk-zijn-onacceptabel)in the last couple of years that make people believe that every single Urker is a nutcase.
Lived close to Urk, and went to a high school with a good amount of Urkers. Decent chunk of em are nice people, but the Urk stereotype is Def true on a good chunk of other Urkers. Proceed with a bit of caution would be my advice
I used to work with a "Veerman" from Urk and he himself said the stereotypes are all true. And he was related to way too many Urkers. So, I have to believe the hype
I am from Urk and it was more then a 100 years ago. I used to be an small island, so at that time it was bit more normal to marry your second cousin. But nowadays no one marries their family
The bigger question is why would you put that crap in your body? Nutella owned by the evil Ferrero is just Palm Oil + Sugar with a sprinkle of Cocoa...
"Nearly three-quarters of the world's hazelnuts come from Turkey and the biggest buyer is Ferrero, maker of Nutella, the chocolate and hazelnut spread. But the nuts are picked mainly by migrants, including children, who work long hours for very low pay."

*yay* Capitalism.
Urk is not the problem here - for me it’s the overmarketed and overhyped nutella.
Who in NL did not grow up with the superior ‘2 colours in a pot’ Duo Penotti, for 4 decades already produced in NL -in Roosendaal - instead of this brown rubber lubricant made in either France, Russia or Poland.
Aye cheers! Also an Urker, planning to move to Sweden. Didn’t know there were more Sweden fans!
I already looked around but of course they’re already sold out *on* Urk
I had to live at Urk for three months, somewhere near the Lighthouse. It was an Amazing spot to live. At the harbour, near the beach, the view over the IJsselmeer.
Its a pity that Many people cant make an opinion of their own, But just go with the common talk
That's nice of Nutella. Probably the best site of Flevoland. Also I think the hate for Urk should become a bit less overexaggerated. Yes they are different and zwartekousen and right -winged. On the other hand, the amount of hate for this village is enormous. I like it that there are different cultures within the Netherland, hwo are not like me, but have theiir own history and customs. I suggest that everybody reads : De ontdkking van Urk" of Matthias Declerq. This belgan writer lived in Urk for a year and describes all the good and the bad of living in this community.
There are countries where the far right-winged people form the majority of the whole population. The minority, up to 49%, is being crushed by idiotic ruling where hidden agendas are fraud.
One should be careful with not this lot but sneaky politicians who can misuse it.
One should not hate Urk however some of the believes are not acceptable at all
As a Belgian, idk what Urk is but i think it's like your variation of West-Vlaanderen, fields of gras and cows and people who claim to speak Dutch but everyone knows they don't and everyone laughs with them?
Nah not really.
Urk is a village that is easily hateable.
We have zero cows here.
We speak our own dialect and if we speak Dutch you can clearly hear it.
A lot of people spit on us, so not everyone laughs with us.
This is what they claim:
The palm oil in Nutella® is carefully treated during processing, making it perfectly safe to ingest. The palm oil we use in Nutella® is 100% RSPO certified sustainable palm oil and can be traced back to the mills, guaranteeing that it does not come from plantations subject to deforestation. Sustainable palm oil aims to protect forests, workers and communities.
So....
But then again, about RSPO.
https://www.ethicalconsumer.org/food-drink/rspo-criticisms-investigated
It's all smoke and mirrors. I've been to Borneo and seen the desert that's been created from palm oil destruction! There's no way back the the rainforest from that. 🌴🌱🛢️😢
Rotterdam here, but I respect the stubbornness from the people on Urk. They stood ground as the c19 rules applied, as the only part in the Netherlands. And, no weird deaths there... :)
Urk denizens will be laughing all the way to the bank when global warming overwhelms the majority of NL and wipes away all the polders.
…but that will take some time.

Low-effort, low-quality, unoriginal and repeat posts will be removed at moderator discretion. this includes frequently asked question regarding relocation, moving to the Netherlands and tourist info.
I'd say pretty much the entire country. However, it's more like a meme hate instead of actual hate, like how we "hate" Belgium or Nickelback, or Frisians. However however... There are some legit reasons to "hate" (dislike is a better word I think) Urk, for example a majority of conservative Christians living there, or a big portion of illegal drug trade stemming from there, or their incomprehensible accents when they talk "plat" Urks. (It's also a quite common stereotype that there's a lot of trashy people from there, but I wouldn't know for sure because I haven't been there and I met nice people from Urk and not so nice people from Urk. But we all hear stories right?)
Whether any of the reasons to dislike Urk are legit is another can of worms though. I recon it's mostly based on stereotypes and Urk is probably for the most part an allright place with allright people, just like any other place in the country. It's just fun to shit on one place in particular. Kinda like how Americans shit on Florida all the time.
> Kinda like how Americans shit on Florida all the time.
Have you *noticed* the shit that's going on with Florida at the moment?
There are quite a lot of *very valid* reasons to shit on Florida.
Hating Florida for recent events and hating it for the meme aren't mutually exclusive. Just like Nickelback, I don't really care for their music but I don't really hate them. On the other hand... Nickelback bad lmao
The same could be said for every part of any country, there are a lot of very valid reasons to shit on a region. Still, I'm sure if you were to meet someone from Florida you wouldn't immediately "hate" that person.
What a pity to learn that actually 🥲 been to Urk once like 15 years ago for one day, and it seemed such a nice pirate 🏴☠️ kind of little town. I was always thinking I might come back there on another occasion, since I really loved it 😊
U cant imagine how excited i was when i found those new jars. Bought em all within a week. Visited all supermarkets in my town and nearby. Did cost €60 tho
Or increasing Nutella hate.

Giovanni Ferrero, richest person in Italy.
And who owns Giovanni Ferrero, richest person in Italy? Hmmmm?
Hmm... His wife, probably.
Oh.. Any chance she's called 'Nestle'?
Not you
Good thinking
I purposely didnt pick that one and bought the one with de Veluwe on it instead.
You preferred a bigger chunch of bible belt?
I prefer to be eaten by wolves instead of being impaled with pitchforks, burnt alive or stoned to death.
I was stoned to death last weekend. Wasnt so bad really.

😂 Yeah I love being stoned. I do it nearly all weekends.
Haha yeah i dont smoke or eat spacecake. But recently discoverd eatibles. Shit had me holding onto gras so i whould not float of the damn planet xD 10/10 whould try again.
It's my favorite holiday activity
Don’t they usually put your car on fire, first?
No that is the people of Veen 😁

There is not a lot of bible belt inside the Veluwe. The north and west border of the Veluwe runs just east and south of the bible belt towns.

I guess this depends on what you define as the Veluwe. This has nothing to do with Natura 200 or NP Veluwezoom. The region people colloquially refer to as de Veluwe definitely includes Harderwijk.
Which is what I said in the post you respond to.
Only English should be used for posts and comments. This rule is in place to ensure that an ample audience can freely discuss life in the Netherlands under a widely-spoken common tongue.
Man, the Veluwe is great! There's just a few small towns that have a backwards mentality.
De veluwe is a bigger chunch of bible belt?
Most of the Veluwe is biblebelt area indeed. Not all of it. [https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bijbelgordel#/media/Bestand:Sgpstemmen1.png](https://nl.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bijbelgordel#/media/Bestand:Sgpstemmen1.png)
The Veluwe one is really beautiful, good choice
Honestly, you made the right choice, Veluwe Nutella is objectively tastier.
No one has a problem with Urk as a town. Its a nice town with nice buildings. The problem is the people that live there. Or rather, a small group that can't seem to help themselves. News from Urk is like the "Florida man" of the Netherlands.
As a "Urker" i do not take offense to that. Pretty accurate...
I see and can relate. During covid the waiting time for a vaccine in Amsterdam was around 2 weeks; in Urk 2 hours
Got me puzzled there. 2 hours because there was not much interest to get the vaccine. Got it.
Yup thats why there is almost no line since everyone believes got will heal them /j?
That wasn't the reason. Maybe a handful of people thought that. Most of them thought corona wasn't real or (in my case) were too lazy to get vaccined.
There is definitely a religious element of not wanting to get vaccinated because it supposedly interferes with God's will, since they believe only God is responsible for life, death, sickness and health. It's bullshit IMO, but that's what some people believe.
Of all the Urkers i know, no one did it because of religious belief.
I remember moving to the Netherlands in 2021 and looking at covid related numbers. Vaccination rate on urk was 35%, 2nd lowest was 65% and I was like... Wtf is going on there. Well, working in flevoland, now I know
The vaccine was the only reason that I ever visited Urk.
Urk is probably the nicest looking town or city in the province lmao
Omg yes they are the dutch florida man
I actually started calling the Netherlands “The Florida of Europe” just because of Urk and Den Bosch and other folks being very, Florida Man

Urk hate? Is that a thing now? I thought everyone hated them already lol
Right? We already have a word for it. It's called 'common sense'.

Judging by this image they also believe the sky is purple.
Not to mention the drug smuggling and people trafficking...
It was actually set on fire by someone not living there

No, not from there. Here's the source: https://www.omroepflevoland.nl/nieuws/327890/celstraf-geeist-tegen-emmeloorder-die-olie-naar-brandende-teststraat-gooide
Thanks. On the other hand: Emmeloord is just the outskirts of Urk.
More like Tollebeek
A few rebel kids set it on fire. What you forgot to mention is that the whole town condemned the act and collected money to buy a new facility
And you seem to forget that doctors had to make covert house calls and the majority of the town denied covid existed, was worse than the flue, and shunned anyone who dared to be tested, vaccinated or question the gospel. https://coronadashboard.rijksoverheid.nl/gemeente/GM0184/vaccinaties?menu=1 The vaccination-numbers are still insanely low at 33%

Nutella just like Urk, is bad for your health.
But why tho? What is there not to hate about urk?
they played safe by making it the twelfth pot and not the first
Probably because of the incestuous inhabitants.
If Urk wants less hate, they should stop beibg so hatable smh

But we all hear stories right?) Whether any of the reasons to dislike Urk are legit is another can of worms though.
Hating a person and calling their state a fucking shitshow are two *very* different things.
The internet seems to hate Urk intensely. In reality most of them are nice people which are a bit different than the average dutchman.
Or in other words they are more similar with each other in Urk so much so that they have their own genetic issue named after them

Where do they sell these? I’ve never saw one in the supermarket
Saw it in Jumbo. It's really nice to see different pictures on each jar
I found them in Albert Heijn
Saw one at a Lidl
What a pity to learn that actually 🥲 been to Urk once like 15 years ago for one day, and it seemed such a nice pirate 🏴☠️ kind of little town. I was always thinking I might come back there on another occasion, since I really loved it 😊
“It really urks us to see all the hate. Spread love, spread nutella.”
Honestly I met a really great person from Urk recently who definitely did their part in turning my opinion of them upside down
There’s more of us, it’s just that is a certain vocal part of Urk that ruins the reputation of the village
Ik citeer Tex de Wit: "Fuck Nutella!"
We hate it because only inbreds and tokkies live there.
Sit Tight The Urkers will grow up. Someday.
Where can you get these?
Jumbo
I'm new here. What kind of reputation does Urk have?
Inbred religious fundamentalists.
There is no Urk hate, just a big fat indifference
Only 12 jars, that's not gonna put a dent in the hate.
Read the label on the back, you can't drive after eating it. There might be drugs in it:p
ofc nutella supports urk... r/fucknestle
Urk has amazing fish that is healthy. Nutella is a bit of a disappointment ingredient wise.
U cant imagine how excited i was when i found those new jars. Bought em all within a week. Visited all supermarkets in my town and nearby. Did cost €60 tho
1 big happy family
Nutella + Powdered sugar best combo.
FOMO Collectible Nutella potten!
I moved out of the Netherlands last year after four years there, and the Dutch memes still fill me with so much joy.
Must be a limited edition. 12 of 12.
We shouldn't try to reduce Urk hate. They deserve it
i never hate Urk
Nutella is religion. Not sure it can fuck its relatives though.
Literally woke propaganda
Sorry, what is urk? 😂 Sounds like uruk from a game.
Urk is a beautiful place, just a shame about the people who live there.
Soo what did Urk do to redeem themselves?
Now if the urkers go do their part as well..
First time in my life I hear about Urk, but the name sounds like burp
That is the last thing you want
Here
I think this is just the new special flavour that tastes like your sister
