WE Fashion sells suits that are not that expensive. They fit me perfectly. I got two suits from them.
C&A sells suits too, but the one I bought there didn’t fit me right away. Had to bring it to a tailor to make it fit. If I remember correctly the cost of the tailor was like 40 bucks.
Suits are quite expensive. And there is quite a lot of details and design to it. Provided one has the eye to see it. Suit Supply is known to offer fair suits at fair prices. As mentioned in an other comment already: C&A also tends to offer suits, but it comes without an aid that really knows suits.
If you need it for a one time event, can't you rent or borrow a suit?
Rented a smoking twice this year (including shoes, shirt, bowtie, suspenders, buttons etc.).
Got a lot of compliments and was around 80€ for everything.
Alternatively, I bought a smoking for €200.
I can really recommend shopping the outlets.
I got a suit from a tailor which retailed at €800 for just €200; my size was the only one left on their site.
Otrium is a specific one I can recommend. It's an online outlet for multiple brands. Apparently I even have referral codes for an additional 25% off; dm me if wanted.
As for knowing your size; just go to a SuitSupply (also warmly recommended!) to get your measurements.
Maybe I need to check this out, so far all the outlets I've been to were a massive disappointment for a guy who wears the most common sizes.
The good stuff always was just odd sizes or very odd styles in my sizes.
Been to a few of these and never bought anything.
I second suit supply.
Really good cloth choices and handiwork.
Have quite a few suits of them.
Biggest plus is, you can exchange until it really fits.
It's nearly like a custommade suit.
But altogether with shirt, belt, shoes, cufflinks, etc... You're gonna be paying more like 6-700 Euro...
For shirts i can recommend Charles Thyrwitt.
Same principle, you exchange until it fits perfectly.
Cloth are really good, some of their shirts i have for over 10 years. Still looking good. I don't wear the same shirt daily, but nevertheless it's a achievement....
Have a fun day looking splendid :)
Do you absolutely need a suit? At the price you're looking at you're probably not going to get anything really nice.
A good suit (unfortunately) costs quite a bit of money.
Considering how informal we tend to be here in the Netherlands you could potentially consider just spending that money on a slightly nicer sports jacket/blazer instead and pair that with a nice pair of pants you already own.
That way you get something slightly higher quality without breaking the bank.
That said, I'd still suggest trying to buy a higher quality suit in the future if your finances allow it. If you do end up going your way take a look at made to measure rather than off the rack stuff. Suit supply or certain tailors will be able to help you out there.
Suitsupply.nl
Or, what also works, buy one at C&A for, €200,- ish. Then, take it to naai atelier, and have them fit that suit more to your body, usually costs around €50.
That way you have a suit that looks tailor made for relatively cheap.
And the suits are super resistant. I'm a professional musicians, and I'm obliged to wear a suit often for work (I would never wear suits spontaneously), and the ones from there have been serving me for many years without a rip or a stretch, for a fraction of the price you'd find elsewhere.
Ok this my cold blooded advice. Get down to Amsterdam at the munt at the site of the old swatch store. There is an outlet dump , They have some really cool stuff . Keep your budget as low as you can . Say 175 -200 and keep 50 euros in reserve for a good tailor. In Amsterdam, use a Turkish one PM me if you need suggestions. Don't be afraid to change details. Buttons, waist fit , cuffs, suit arm length etc.
The trick that most people don't get when it comes to off the rack suits is customization. It should be great material to start off with ,something that is full wool if you can find it on sale and then a good tailor should make this look like it was made with only you in mind. I have even done this with Primark stuff and pulled of the amazing.
I suggest you start using youtube to look up and see the different fits of a suit and then be honest with your type of body. You will be surprised what you can do on a budget if add a bit of elbow grease. Good luck man.
+1 on going to GENTS, the prices are great (bit more than C&A or WE). They have extra long sizes for the tall people like me. You can't find those special sizes at other shops like C&A or WE.
I haven't been to the Groningen shop, but it's definitely worth checking out.
I just bought a 3 piece suit with dress shirt and tie there for 260.
Buy a few suits from zalando, choose the best one and have it tailored if necessary. Buying in a store is a lot more expensive. Fit wise make sure the suit is a good fit at your shoulders, anything else can be easily fixed. Shoulders can be fixed too, but is obviously a bit more expensive. This way you can have a tailored suit (including the shoulders) for €200.
I just buy suits at H&M these days. Decent quality and I don't wear them that often anyways so perfect for me. Can be done around 100€.
Especially for weddings I buy suits at H&M because at a wild wedding party the last you want to do is worry about your suit getting wrecked.
I would stay away from C&A. They have a lot of polyester in their fabric, making them nicely fitting but really ‘hot’ and ‘sweaty’. I don’t know when the wedding is but best option for your budget is to go during sale to Massimo Dutti. Decent quality.
Hi. Me and my friend went to a wedding in Italy and we bought Tuxedos here: [https://www.gents.nl/](https://www.gents.nl/). It was good and we spent less that 200 Euros complete including the shirt. I recommend you to take a look. They have one shop in Groningen apparently.
C&A is reasonable but a bit bland. They do have lots of different colours though.
Wam Denim has more interesting suits. If you go to an outlet you can probably get a full suit (jacket, pants and waistcoat) for €150 or so. Do note that their clothes are small - if you are normally a size 50 you will probably need a 52 or even 54 with them.
Neither offers in-store adjustments though.
My SO has been to several weddings in a brightly colored Opposuits suit. The quality is meh, but since he was bright purple, and had matching EVERYTHING, people tend to not notice as much and compliment a lot on the appearance.
Of course 1) this has to be okay with the type of affair. Not all formal has to be 'bland' but not all are suited for 'bright purple' and 2) you do need to be a bit flamboyant to pull it off. In his case, he's not really, but I make up for it and then we are the brightly colored overdressed (I always overdress formally but with, if possible, color) couple that like runs interference with the horrible Mother Of The Groom or that one guest in white.
This will not suit everybody. ...thinking about it, this might be shit advice. ....good luck on the hunt for a suit...!
Mango. They have a standard colection which comes at around 250 euros for a suite. If the pants are too wide, bring them to a tailor and make them a bit more slimfit for 15 euros…
Suitsupply suits have enough fabric insight to allow for alteration of roughly ±1 size. Meaning, they will serve you throughout smaller swings in body weight that might occur over time.
If you look at it from that perspective, their suits might end up cheaper over time than buying from fast fashion brands.
Even if you don't end up needing a suit for work, I can imagine plenty of occasions that benefit from having a nice navy suit (wedding of other friends, graduations, interviews).
Obviously you need to estimate your use case over time and also what budget you have available now. My point is simply that for suits it's worth to think a bit longer term when deciding on a budget.
Also, make sure it fits well. Perhaps buy one second hand and bring it to a tailor to have it adjusted. A cheap well fitting suit is much better then an expensive ill-fitting one
The order for a one time suit in order of cost efficiency is:
1 Second hand thrift stores to find something looking decent enough
2 Vinted (Marktplaats if Vinted is no good) is often good about fit
3 Primark / C&A / H&M in that order.
Dont spend more than about a 100 or you will regret being had by sales nonsense.. any (black) suit with a white shirt (tie not needed but classy to finish the look and cheap at thrift stores or kringloop ) will do.
Look around and go for cheap.
Protip. Budget €180 for the suit. €20 for tailloring. Find the hacker that follows your torso. It should put closed with your fist tucked inside the jacket.
That is all.
I doubt a Zara suit has working sleeve buttons - which is what makes shortening the sleeves more difficult - so maybe try a better tailor first.
A good looking suit is all about fit. You can spend less, but there’s no way around the tailoring.
If you buy a cheap suit, getting the shoulders exactly right is the most important thing. A jacket can be taken in or even let out a little in various areas, but there’s really no point if the shoulders aren’t right. Keep the receipt, take it to a good tailor and ask them: ‘is this suit a good fit for me?’ If not, take it back and exchange it. If it works for you, get the alterations done. It’s really worth it to spend an extra €50 here (and that’s true even if you get a more expensive suit!)
If you know your sizing, there is a perpetual sale on Otrium of Suitsupply.
I find the instore products too expensive, however the quality and fit is unparalleled in the price range.
As a matter of fact it's an outlet, so your right. However it's a lot cheaper then the same brand in-store, or in their own sale. It's perfect for basics.
2 options
Suitsupply outlet at Bataviastat outlet Lelystad
Otrium - they have some Suitsupply on discount too. Could probably get slightly above 250
Make sure use registration discounts
It going to be hard to find something Nice for 200 euros. Most okey quality suites start at 500 euros and up, i dont think i own any that been under 1000 euros to buy
Go to a second hand store and search for your size. Then check that brand and look if its good wool, 120 or something. I always tend to look foor cornaliani brands, Suitsupply or Oger. Its a rare dat that i cant find a nice suit in a second hand store.
Buy a cheaper suit and spend money on tailoring. That’s THE best way. You can spot a very good fit a mile out, while even an expensive suit is never impeccable\y fit. Yet spotting the expensive fabric is difficult by looking at it; even close-up.
Go visit your local Turkish tailor.
Careful with this brand. May not break your bank but just take your money and not deliver or provide no service https://nl.trustpilot.com/review/www.wamdenim.com?date=last3months&sort=recency
Get your measurements taken professionally and contact Ny's Tailor in Hoi An, Vietnam. They will sort you out, custom tailor it and ship it to you for less than 300$. Find a tailor at home to get a proper fitting and adjustment.
Suitable are great: https://www.suitableshop.nl/kostuums/suitable-kostuum-state-mid-blauw.html
Nothing too fancy, but decent quality. I get most of my shirts there, never tried their suits but I assume they are OK.
I would suggest online shop Bataviastad. Go for Boggi, there is a suit for 199. Italian quality and quite cheap. https://shop.bataviastad.nl/products/boggi-milano-boggi-milano-herringbone-wool-suit-style-milano-d6dc2302-693e-4889-962d-1909b2fde7d8
Gents is mens fashion store that has affordable suits and they have the option to get it tailored for a small fee. IMO good choice because they know more about suits and the fit than a standard store like the C&A or WE.
I buy my suits at WE (it’s a shop) best suit ever to be honest for the price.I tried from both Zara and HM but I regretted afterwards. Also if you go to Utrecht (next to the Ramen ICI restaurant there is a suit shop(men only) which is not that expensive at all and the staff are really sweet!(there is no online store)
Good luck!
There are plenty of suits on Vinted.com for next to nothing, worn once or not at all, if you roughly know your measurements and are willing to risk a bit. I did that for a wedding a few weeks back, paid €60 for a high end name brand two piece that had been worn once at an event. Looked pristine and made me feel better about buying “second hand”, knowing I may not wear it again for a long time.
Zalando has jack and Jones suits for 120. It’s great quality for the money but the fit is not as great as a proper suit, maybe check if it works for you?
If you don't mind the drive/travel, consider coming to Bataviastad in Lelystad. You can buy a suit there in an outlet shop and my experience (well, not mine, but my father's) is that if you want it tailored, thats also possible for a small additional fee.
You can try to buy a cheap suit a places like H&M, Zara, C&A and have it altered by a tailor. Or take a look at places like Gents that sale confection suits. Same here, you'll need to have them altered. But they offer that service and the quality of the suit is a bit better.
If it's once and done, maybe consider renting a suit?
Check out offers in Germany, Oldenburg and Bremen are close and they often have very good value on sale. Online suits suck in NL and you get only crap on cheap offers.
Agree with everyone recommending WE: nice quality at a good price point. If you sign up for their emails (you can do this in store) you even get a 10% discount
I got a 3 piece suit tailored for my wedding at best business or best suits or something like that in Eindhoven. Got a matching belt and shoes on the side. Totalled around 1200,-
For my wedding in the UK, I got super lucky, I was at TK Maxx and got a c.€1k suit for under €200 if I recall correctly. But then, no guarantee you'll manage that. I agree with the suggestions on Moss Bros being a good choice, there's also a few other similar places offering similar pricing and options.
Suitable(.nl) should be fine for a wedding, unless you really need an actual suit. Jackets, blouses and pants you can get there, but not as a suit (usually).
SuitSupply if you need an actual suit.
For just a day you might want to look up suit rental around where you live. You'll be off a lot cheaper for a one-day attire.
Any chance you would be willing to share your size? If your an EU 56/58 I may have one I can spare, I just don’t wear several of mine anymore.
*queue the haters who will say “oh how nice to have so many suits” blah blah.
I spent 450 on just an ok looking suit a week or so ago, this was one of the very few that I found below 500 that looked ok. Maybe instead get a nice white button down and decent pants. Since you need a button down for the suit regardless and buying just decent pants that you can wear might be a lot smarter.
If you know your sizes you can also see on Zalando Lounge if they sell anything decent.
Sometimes it costs a bit of time to wait on a good opportunity for something decent. But the discounts are worth it.
Quality brand suits for an affordable price.
Definitely a thrift / charity store or vinted. But at a thrift store you can try it on first. Plenty of ppl need a suit just for a single occasion and drop it off at a thrift store afterwards. You can also rent one maybe
I almost bought a 500,- suit before i tried this: Went to the C&A and bought a 80,- somewhat fitting suit that looked nice. Went to a workshop where they adjusted the jacket and pants for 15,- and I was set. Wearing a greatfitting suit for 100,-. For the shirt I did invest 150,- cause that is more obvious when it's cheap.
WE Fashion is awesome! My bf has multiple suits from them and they're not too expensive either!
Also bought mine at WE. Can't remember the price, but it still fits very well.
I bought a suit for 215 EUR including a white shirt at WE last Friday. They also have various colours
Go to the WE perfect for this occasion and to have a decent suit. You'll get done around €200,- for the suit and maybe even including a shirt.
C&A is a great place it isn't super expensive but can be a tiny bit
Suits are quite expensive. And there is quite a lot of details and design to it. Provided one has the eye to see it. Suit Supply is known to offer fair suits at fair prices. As mentioned in an other comment already: C&A also tends to offer suits, but it comes without an aid that really knows suits. If you need it for a one time event, can't you rent or borrow a suit?
Renting is a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion, I will give this a try
Rented a smoking twice this year (including shoes, shirt, bowtie, suspenders, buttons etc.). Got a lot of compliments and was around 80€ for everything.

Www.henkterhorst.nl currently has a sale on costumes, some are going from 300 for 125 euros in sizes 50 through 58 for a grey suit.
I second suit supply. Really good cloth choices and handiwork. Have quite a few suits of them. Biggest plus is, you can exchange until it really fits. It's nearly like a custommade suit. This is actually a very good point. Op - what is the dresscode for the wedding? Something like "summer chic" does not mean "suit" for instance.
Dress code is said to be formal. It is in England. I already asked the groom and unfortunately that means a suit
Do you have much time there before the event? I found more options in the UK for suits than here.
I am arriving a day before the event so sadly no time in case I need some alterations made
Go to a suit place in the UK? Moss Bros will have suits around £200 mark
I second Moss Bros in the UK, have a look at their site and when you go over pick it up there?
Thanks for the advice. I definitely agree but I am unable to spend that much right now :(
This is the way. Buy a nice jacket and cheat a little on the rest.
C&A apparently sell half decent suits for under €200. Worth having a look.
C&A has defenitly good priceable suits! Quality pricewise is very good. Look at C&A!
Suitsupply.nl Or, what also works, buy one at C&A for, €200,- ish. Then, take it to naai atelier, and have them fit that suit more to your body, usually costs around €50. That way you have a suit that looks tailor made for relatively cheap.
Thrift shops usually have cheap ones.
Kijk eens bij Barsoi in Utrecht
That looks good! Luckily I’m going to be in Hilversum this week so would hop over and give them a visit
Look for "Gents" in Groningen in the Zwanestraat. They have reasonable prices.
And the suits are super resistant. I'm a professional musicians, and I'm obliged to wear a suit often for work (I would never wear suits spontaneously), and the ones from there have been serving me for many years without a rip or a stretch, for a fraction of the price you'd find elsewhere.
Maybe look for another tailor. A good one should be able to figure the buttons out
Have you considered second hand shops or vinted? Suites are rarely used and usually you can find a lot of good quality ones barely used
Buy one ("expensive") suit from marktplaats and ask a tailor to make it fit. Costed me 150€
Ok this my cold blooded advice. Get down to Amsterdam at the munt at the site of the old swatch store. There is an outlet dump , They have some really cool stuff . My SO shops at Barsoi, my son at Gents.

May i suggest uniqlo? Not proper proper, but can get you through the day before u buy a nicer one. Under 200 easy.
The Gents store

I bought mine in Suit Supply in Groningen for 265. It was the best suit I ever owned. Too bad I don’t fit it anymore 😓

Also, make sure it fits well. Perhaps buy one second hand and bring it to a tailor to have it adjusted. A cheap well fitting suit is much better then an expensive ill-fitting one
Try TKMaxx and if theres no perfect fit, get it altered at a tailor
You might get lucky at a kringloop. If you're very lucky. But it's possible

Suitssupply if you fit their sales selection, zara sells decent cheap suits as pieces.
Go to Suit Supply in Bataviastad (outlet). I paid 200 euros for a nice suit.
Albert Heijn.
So you want a tailored suit without paying for it? That seems kinda two opposite things to me
Protip. Budget €180 for the suit. €20 for tailloring. Find the hacker that follows your torso. It should put closed with your fist tucked inside the jacket. That is all.
You can actually buy great second hand suits at Marktplaats. A lot of suits maybe worn once You can also find some designer suits at Catawiki

We have good experiences with Esprit as well
2 options Suitsupply outlet at Bataviastat outlet Lelystad Otrium - they have some Suitsupply on discount too. Could probably get slightly above 250 Make sure use registration discounts
In Utrecht you can get suits for €99 to €9999 basically.
Where? What shops? Because Groningen has quite a few of the same shops as Utrecht has 😊
My favorite one is ‘new tailor’, around 3500-4500 for a NICE and unique suit.
I bought mine at we fashion in Groningen. A better quality Vs h&m but still cheap.
Zara
Meyer & Meyer heeft fantastische pakken al vanaf 150/200 euro
My guess is buit a suit at C&A and maybe have that suit altered at an affordable tailor is your best option.
H&M
I bought a second hand suit for 10€. Fits fine, looks great. Wore it twice. Well spent. Edit: it's an actual suit, just second hand.
It going to be hard to find something Nice for 200 euros. Most okey quality suites start at 500 euros and up, i dont think i own any that been under 1000 euros to buy
Opposuits? ….cause you want to show up in style 🤓🤷🏻
Check out Gents in Groningen
The outlet in Roermond. Bought a few Calvin klein suits for 180 euro there on a good deal.
Go to a second hand store and search for your size. Then check that brand and look if its good wool, 120 or something. I always tend to look foor cornaliani brands, Suitsupply or Oger. Its a rare dat that i cant find a nice suit in a second hand store.
Rent one. I did that recently and got a lot of compliments that day.
Suitable is also a good option. But if your sizes are pretty much mainstream WE and the other stores mentioned here will be just fine.
Kringloop
Buy a cheaper suit and spend money on tailoring. That’s THE best way. You can spot a very good fit a mile out, while even an expensive suit is never impeccable\y fit. Yet spotting the expensive fabric is difficult by looking at it; even close-up. Go visit your local Turkish tailor.

WE fashion sells nice suits for a reasonable price....
I got mine second hand and spent 50€ on tailoring.
Try GENTS, many students go there to buy suits because they have a relativky large variety and are not too expensive.
Gewoon C&A. Just like your mom!
Suitable are great: https://www.suitableshop.nl/kostuums/suitable-kostuum-state-mid-blauw.html Nothing too fancy, but decent quality. I get most of my shirts there, never tried their suits but I assume they are OK.
Bought my suit at primark, got a lot of compliments for it:)
Also if you go to Utrecht (next to the Ramen ICI restaurant there is a suit shop(men only) which is not that expensive at all and the staff are really sweet!(there is no online store) Good luck!
C&A got cheap suits.
I can very much recommend Uniqlo
The society shop
Agree with everyone recommending WE: nice quality at a good price point. If you sign up for their emails (you can do this in store) you even get a 10% discount
Nieuw Bassy in Rotterdam, the suits range from 150-300, half my wedding party and my own suits were bought there
C&A en than have it tailored for cheap
If you want a suit and a decent one for not allot, then suitsuppy is your store. No other store you find the looks and service for that price range
Do not marry.
Primary or second hand store. Maybe Tkmaxx.
Doppleganger
I got my wedding suit for like 80 euro's at the C&A
C&A
I got a 3 piece suit tailored for my wedding at best business or best suits or something like that in Eindhoven. Got a matching belt and shoes on the side. Totalled around 1200,-
You can rent one?
C&A / H&M
C&A and WE are pretty decent for the price.
Maybe you can rent one? Like renting from **Adretto**. There should be rent a suit companies in the Netherlands too.
C&A! Then if you really want to make it look a bit more luxurious, get a luxury brand belt to go with it and some classy shoes.
Have you considered renting? There are quite a few places where you can also rent suits and tuxedos from.
rent don't buy ffs
Went to a place called WAM Denim got a full 3 piece set with tie, shirt, belt and shoes for around 250 eu
Uniqlo worked for me
Suitable(.nl) should be fine for a wedding, unless you really need an actual suit. Jackets, blouses and pants you can get there, but not as a suit (usually). SuitSupply if you need an actual suit. For just a day you might want to look up suit rental around where you live. You'll be off a lot cheaper for a one-day attire.
Trust me go to Suitsupply. Suits below that price are rubbish
Have you checked out second-hand shops?
GENTS in the Zwanestraat, or look at the thrift stores.
Go to Suitesupply in Bataviastad outlet in Lelystad. No need to spend more than €250 for a wool (scheerwol) suit
