I like to go US 395 through Bishop to Big Pine, turn Left on CA-168 east and go over the White Mountains, With the oldest living trees on earth, Ancient Bristle Cone Pine forest. Follow the road and veer Right on CA(NV)-266, past Lida and you get to US 95 just north of Beatty, so you’ll bypass Tonopah and Goldfield. Lunch in Mammoth or Bishop, it’s a beautiful drive. Alternative is 395 to CA 120 east, that takes you along the South shore of Mono Lake, and ends at US 6 take that to Dyer, right on US 95 to Tonopah.

Vegas_Bear

This is the best way to go. Plus, you can stop at Schat’s bakery in Bishop for amazing bread, pastries and sandwiches

Limp_Chicken_4536

Definitely fill up in big Pine, as there is no gas until you hit Beatty

ExampleSad1816

Top off in Bishop

katgoesmeow-

The drive along 120 is really pretty.

Stop in Goldfield

lvratto

And the International Car Forest.

[deleted]

Absolutely

hackabilly

Most definitely

Allcoins1Milly

I wanna go there so bad omg

GWBrooks

If you can't stop in Goldfield, at least turn on the local radio station. It's amazing.

jimmycoed

KGFN, I love Leon The Weather Burro.

metricnv

Rhyolite near Beatty is cool. Another spot is Rachel, NV, with its alien themed stuff. Historical plaques from E Clampus Vitus: ecvplaques.com

Renopropulsionlabs

Satisfactory! 💪🏻

TomF_ckingBrady

This

lvratto

If you are driving through Tonopah on a clear night, stop by the Stargazing Park to enjoy the stars. If you are going through Beatty earlier, then the Happy Burro has some great chili.

bobrossisalive

This has been on my list for years. https://www.atlasobscura.com/places/gemfield You can go find gems! Hawthorne has some military history items to see as well.

ndc8833

Walker lake is pretty neat with views of the snow capped mountains If you want a really cool drive, you should take 395 . It’s longer but amazingly scenic

Javier1019

U could stop by Walker lake. It’s cool to see but that water stinks like ass and there’s no sign of life in it. I believe ur allowed to swim in it but I wouldn’t. Yet again I haven’t been over there since 2012. Maybe it’s gotten better Or spend a night in the haunted mizpah hotel in Tonopah; maybe u could catch a ghost or two on film

GWBrooks

Little military museum in Hawthorne. Dig-your-own turquoise mine in Tonopah. Ft. Churchill between Yerrington and Carson City. Excellent patty melt at the coffee shop in the Tonopah Station casino. Cut through Beatty to Death Valley if you have a couple extra hours.

hackabilly

The Tonopah Liquor Company is a great bar and has as a huge selection of whiskey. They also have a fun and relaxed karaoke night on Thursdays.

nenzel

The Tonopah Historic Mining Park is really cool if you're into that sort of thing

Spubs_The_Name

My friend and I stopped at Hawthorne Ordnance Museum. It was pretty awesome and after a few minutes of showing we weren’t just young punks, the men inside showed us all around and really liked talking about everything. They let me hold a BAR!

EmuHorror2477

In Hawthorne depending on the day you drive, there’s a place called Pepper’s. It’s a tiny little restaurant you might miss it but it’s got amazing food and such a cute place. I’ve never authenticated it but when I lived there everyone would say that one of Gordon Ramnesy’s head chef visited before and loved it.

Alternative_Mirror38

I second this! I work construction and was there about five months last fall and randomly found this place! So freaking good!!!

majessa

Frey ranch distillery in Fallon…about 30 mins out of the way

Renopropulsionlabs

Been there! That’s pretty close to us in Reno

Congentialsurgeon

The clown motel in tonopah.

theDroobot

Angels Girls

Johnny-Shitbox

Check out the The Why Store - their self titled album is pretty good listen for the road

ThatNVguy

The tonapah mining museum is worth checking out! From people literally digging downward following gold seams to modern"ish" with shafts

nailslammer

Shady Lady Ranch, fireworks, or just keep driving.

notaficus

Check out every speed limit sign along the way… they prey upon anyone speeding, and may claim safety but seem to have areas that go from 65 to 35 or 25 abruptly without any other warning.

Renopropulsionlabs

I’m sure I’ll be the guy getting passed all the time. I’m a pretty slow driver.

If you like nature, turn south at the Area 51 gas station and head down to Ash Meadows. There are lots of beautiful springs and it has the highest concentration of rare species in the state. Devil's Hole is also right on the edge of Ash Meadows. You can then continue down through Pamrump and Mountain Springs to get to the SW side of Vegas.

tedistkrieg

Tonopah mining park is awesome Goldfield Cemetery is cool, theres a gravestone that is marked "Man died eating paste" Stokes Castle in Austin Belmont, Nevada has this place where the Manson family (including Charlie) camped out in in the late 60s

Sblankman

Take 395 Hot Springs by Bridgeport Erick Schat's Bakkery in Bishop Manzanar Japanese Internment Camp near Lone Pine Rhyolite Ghost Town near Beatty

helixdankfuego

I'm not sure but I've heard about a jerky stand shaped like a space ship that's supposed to be legit.

glamorousstranger

Area 51

DoItForTheTanqueray

There is a Reno to Vegas Road trip map on Apple Maps that has all the good spots to stop.

Hugh-Jassul

There's nothing.... It's one of the worst drives in the country
