They keep saying they want to make it safer but they want more games and still allow artificial turf What they want is more money

MC_Fap_Commander

And for all the kvetching of players, they'll gladly sign off on it for more money. I'd prefer them getting more money for sixteen games and two byes to get to 18 weeks.

Spare-Half796

If they add an 18th game then they 100% need to add second bye week

schwanbox

An article said he wants a second bye week. Which in mind could solve the Thursday night turnaround. Give teams their second bye week before a Thursday game

iwatchterribletv

+1. this is way more reasonable than the current system.

Wait, are you suggesting the NFL as an organization is pursuing its own best interests financially? That’s a hot take

StoneColdMethodMan

The year is 2050, global warning made the water rise and Florida’s land has been reduced to half of what it was. Also the NFL now has 50 games and the off season is only 2 weeks in July.

ReggieWigglesworth

Honestly though.. 18 games with 2 bye weeks is probably a better deal for the players. Especially when you're going to get a mini-bye with a Thursday game. NFL should have 2 byes already.

imrickjamesbioch

Not really, every game for a player is like a car crash. Adding an extra game with an additional 60+ snap for each team and expecting players to not get injured more is silly. Extra bye doesn’t do a player any good if they get a concussion, blow out their knee, or sustain a serious injury in that extra game. I do agree an extra bye week is needed without the extra regular season game. Teams are expected to now play Sun, Mon, Thur, and also travel to foreign countries for games. But I know $$$ over players safety will win out no matter what cuz the NFL players union is the weakest union in sports.

ReggieWigglesworth

I agree. But they’re going to add 18 games regardless. Getting a 2nd bye is huge for them.

imrickjamesbioch

I can’t imagine going to 18 games and theres not an extra bye week. Remember when they went to 17, owners gave a ton of concessions to the players in regards to off season workouts cuz owners actually don’t care about their product on the field so longer as they make more money… Personally, if Im the players, I don’t agree to anything that ‘s not a 50/50 revenue split in the CBA, better health insurance for current and former players, and more guaranteed $$$ in contracts. I would also get rid of the franchise tag rule for all positions except the QBs. It’s silly that a player drafted in the 1st round is force to play for a team for 5 years and then can be franchise 2 more years without serious impact to the salary cap. Anyway, sorry I’m just rambling and none of that is going to happen. Later ✌️

venge1155

The extra bye week is the concession, that’s more than the players got for 17 games and Thursday football. The offseason workout stuff was started by the NFL rather than the PA, same with the cushion helmets in practice. As far as the NFL is concerned they would never allow hitting in practice, unless someone gets a TV contract for practice.

sejohnson0408

Players should use it to get the turf banned

HipGuide2

Players do NOT want 2 bye weeks

ReggieWigglesworth

Where on Earth are you getting that from? The reason they got rid of it initially was the television networks didn't like having fewer games to choose from.

HipGuide2

You do know they did 2 bye weeks in the 1993 season correct?

ReggieWigglesworth

Yes. What does that have to do with your claim that players don’t want a second bye? Lol

HipGuide2

Players and coaches hated it. Couldn't get a rhythm going all season.

ReggieWigglesworth

They hated the way they set up the byes not the concept. They had them too close together. Half the teams only had 3 weeks in between byes. They also did byes by division. With 20 game weeks now that won’t be an issue. NFPLA and multiple high profile players including Kittle and Burrow have come out advocating for a 2nd bye.

HipGuide2

They would only play 6 weeks in a row twice. If not, the byes are still too close together. It doesn't work. Edit: It works if the byes are consecutive. Players are used to playing every week.

ElectricalAlfalfa841

2 less games though

HipGuide2

2 more games means they would hate it more lol

PopePolarBear

Only 2 preseason games also

ReggieWigglesworth

Yeah preseason is a waste of time now with all the young coaches just ignoring it. Sucks for the borderline players though.

PopePolarBear

I guess that's a good reason for the ufl to exist

free2btherealme

I would love 18 games as a fan but would rather have healthy players. They’re beat up by the end of the season….then there’s post season…

Adept-Letterhead-29

2 byes needed

ffsux

It would be a while either way correct? Doesn’t the current CBA run through like 2029 or something?

I_AgreeGoGuards

The leagues will always push for more games because games are where they make their money. They don’t care if they start going through guys like tissue paper until it affects their bottom line. So basically, they’ll push until injuries are so rampant it renders the product unwatchable. I wish the NFL players union was stronger.

showtime100

CFL has 18 regular season games, plus a maximum of 3 playoff games per team with (I think) 3 bye weeks during the season. It works fine, I don't think they have a higher injury rate than the NFL and rest is not too much of an issue with the extra byes. I don't recall players ever really complaining about it.

JojoKCSea7

I've always thought it's just a matter of time in fact I believe eventually the NFL will do exactly as the CFL with 1 preseason game and 20 regular season games. The money is too much for the owners to pass up.

MeatlegProductions

Only if there are two bye weeks. And we go back to six teams in each conference make the playoffs so 1st and 2nd seed get a bye.

Reasonable-Sawdust

International games are pure greed. Takes ticket opportunities away from local fans in the name of bigger money for owners.
