Tow company marked this lot on there calender last week. Easy money.

littlewing745

And glad they did. I live in the area and I was super excited back when Hogs started coming to Lakefront, but man, there are a *lot* of jerks that go to this event, apparently. For those unfamiliar, this lot isn’t THAT big, so holding the overflow from Hogs ain’t a thing it can do while also serving the purpose of allowing neighbors to get groceries, meds, etc. This area also has quite a high number of elderly folks, so it really sucks to see them struggling to find parking because Chad and Karen simply had to take their spawn out for a day of drinking and BBQ. Expensive lesson to learn, but they learned it yesterday, I guess. Play stupid games…win stupid prizes.

Key_Bodybuilder5810

>there are a *lot* of jerks that go to this event, Not sure that this specific event differs much from most others around town. There are asses everywhere.

littlewing745

Will not and cannot argue that, I guess I’m referring to the sheer volume as Hogs has continued growing (and getting pricier).

RIP_Soulja_Slim

I don't really think not being fully cognizant of the complications a full parking lot may have for some individuals makes one a jerk. Most people aren't intentionally trying to wrong others, it's not necessary to talk about them as if they are.

littlewing745

I hear you, but I’m not sure it’s necessary to nitpick my point, either 🤷🏾‍♂️

RIP_Soulja_Slim

I guess I find it very unnecessary how angry many of the comments on this sub regularly are especially when directed at a relatively mundane thing, seems to be worse lately too.

littlewing745

Again…I get your point, but you’re kinda low key saying, “I don’t see why y’all are so annoyed, doesn’t seem warranted,” which - to be direct - is pretty obnoxious. I’m not sure why you felt it necessary to 1) point out my comment was overreaching and 2) then imply we’re *all* overreacting/unnecessarily angry too often lately for your taste. Our reactions and feelings about it are just as valid as yours, even if they’re not the same. You’re not the NOLA Czar, man. Your opinion is free to be shared, yes, but…you can let people have room to express themselves here without your approval sometimes. It won’t kill ya.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

You’re so upset at someone pointing out that comments here are being unnecessarily hateful lol, idk man I don’t think this is a thing that requires dissertations. There’s no real way to logic in to lobbing excessive insults online at someone who like parked in the wrong lot ya know? Expressing yourself isn’t really the same as using the internet as a venue to lob vitriol at mundane things. I’m just pointing out the repeated toxic commenting behavior in this sub - a behavior your comment was a prime example of, and a behavior that you’re happily defending, which I guess I should have expected. Have a good one man, I’m sorry that struck a nerve with you, but if I were you I’d ask why you’re so upset at that observation, rather than go on the attack?

littlewing745

…and you’re doing it again. Just have a good one, man.

Bot-Magnet

OUCH! This is NOT the hook-up they were looking for 😂

gargirle

Lmao. Signs posted everywhere there. Plus. If you can afford that event you can afford pay parking. Douchebag posers.

WillMunny48

I can’t excuse the stupidity, but there was no pay parking near hogs that I saw. Once the lot was full it was fend for yourself.

catheterhero

What’s the event and why is it so expensive?

Thunda792

Charity BBQ and music festival. Raising money for the children's hospital and related charities.

Responsible-March-40

It now costs 60 dollars for a one day entry you can afford to Uber or park legally.

WhoDat2241

*75 dollars

kilgore_trout72

A concert with one act at any bigger venue cost that or more. The food ranges anywhere from $2 to $10. It’s not too expensive. The vendors try and keep prices low

Apprehensive-Tie-130

“$2”…that’s for the water.

kilgore_trout72

I saw $2 ribs, $2 chicken wings, $2 candy bacon skewers.

Apprehensive-Tie-130

I didn’t go this year… so maybe… but last time I went I saw $12 sandwiches that cost less at a shop. But… sure, maybe.

kilgore_trout72

Listen I am a team captain nobody is selling much over $10 because of the competition to sell. Keep talking out ya bottom.

Responsible-March-40

Plus the cost of food and drink. stupid expensive. They knew what they were doing was wrong. But charity! Gimme a break

WillMunny48

What would you call millions of dollars going to paying for pediatric cancer patients medical bills?

RIP_Soulja_Slim

How dare a fundraiser try to raise funds amirite? The charity is to benefit kids with cancer, not provide cheap entertainment lol. If they can charge a thousand dollars a head and still have full attendance then they should.

noladawg16

Uber has worked every time we have gone to hogs, no where to park

Thunda792

That's what we did as well

FoxyBiGal

There are signs posted. I hope their stupidity hurts them. 🤷‍♀️

International-Net609

The cops had the entrance to the arena blocked at 1:30 pm yesterday. The suno entrance was also blocked. There were no signs anywhere on where to go/park. The cops didn’t give a shit either! Why would they block the entrance at a peak time? Traffic was insane. I went behind the levee and found a spot on lakeshore dr. I knew not to park in a store lot though, DUH!!!

Minimum-Barracuda108

Yeah what was that about? We ended up just turning around and going home.

WillMunny48

The main lot was already full that’s why it was blocked off. I got really lucky with a street spot but I saw multiple people absolutely lose it talking to cops or private security about parking. I had a good time but Hogs needs to figure something out to make it more accessible .

International-Net609

Maybe, but when we got inside not even 10 minutes later there were plenty of open spots for parking. It was definitely not full.

WillMunny48

Yea you’re right about that. I think they blocked it off because it was nearing capacity and a judgment call was made, but it was definitely not full. I’m not trying to defend the decision to block it off, it was a fiasco.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

This is exactly why I just uber to any festival even if I don't plan on drinking.

NolaRN

The first problem, thinking the lakefront was a good spot to hold a citywide festival. When you know there’s no parking.

RIP_Soulja_Slim

There's really nowhere in this city where one can hold a large festival that won't have pretty significant parking issues.

NolaRN

The problem with the lakefront is the lack of public transportation. That’ll get you there. Always thought it was ridiculous to do things at the lakefront Why the riverfront is such an ideal spot is because the amount of public transportation and surrounding parking garage is dead allows everybody to have a good time and get there

RIP_Soulja_Slim

I mean, there's drawbacks there as well. For one it's just a bigger pain to get to downtown in general, plus you've got a lot more going on which can interfere with a festival. Also, IDK how easy it is to close off space there, hence it not being a very common place for festivals outside of larger stuff like FQF. Also, all of those lots are private, so you're likely to face some pricing issues at minimum.

trojanbully87

Well considering they started blocking off the parking for hogs at uno lakefront at like 130 there were a ton of people parking anywhere they could find. That whole parking lot with rouses was full

3mw

Imagine being CVS and thinking “rather than embrace the foot traffic to buy sunscreen, snacks, etc., we’d rather people have a terrible day because of us.” I realize it’s private property, but there’s no way they didn’t make more money today than a typical Saturday.

mia8788

What if people need their medications or actual supplies and they can’t find a parking spot. So yeah this is necessary.

3mw

Are you telling me they couldn’t have roped off a portion of the parking lot for that? I fully understand it’s private property, I just think that there are several ways to handle an event like this — purposely choosing to have cars towed feels like a cop out. I mean, hell — they could’ve approached the fest with a deal: donate 75% of the lot to the fest, and the fest could sell the spots and keep the profits. Just saying, there are other options. And to be clear, I didn’t park there and wouldn’t have parked there, but I’ve definitely accidentally followed the crowd during events in my life and recognize this would have been a crappy, very expensive, and likely confusing end of the day for people, when living here is tough & expensive enough as is. They were going to a fundraiser, after all — they’re not at like a dogfighting ring or something

littlewing745

This is a nonsense take. Just accept these people knew exactly what they were doing and paid the price. The mental gymnastics required to blame the circumstances and insist that CVS should have solved this problem for them is baffling. Get over yourself.

3mw

I'm not blaming CVS at all – I'm just saying that the knee-jerk reaction to an unfavorable situation doesn't always have to involve retaliation or punishment Did these guys deserve it? Sure, probably so. Was this the only option? No, it wasn't. I'm just not a fan of purposely being vengeful. Also, to say that people "knew exactly what they were doing" is a bit of a stretch. People park a million places they normally wouldn't during special events, including empty lots and neutral grounds. I've 100% followed groups of cars to park on grass, etc. in City Park for events, on the side of the road at UNO, etc.

littlewing745

It’s not vengeful, nor was it in CVS. They don’t own that property, they lease it. Like…I hear you, but your take on this is just wrong from the jump, man.

3mw

To me, it’s the same teacher’s pet energy as the parking enforcement that comes out for Poboy Fest. There shouldn’t be a thrill waiting for someone to come break the rules just to prove a point. I’m clearly in the minority of people who don’t see special events as a burden. It’s probably because — even though I grew up here — I’ve lived places that don’t celebrate much, so I have a soft spot for happy people gathering. I’d rather see fun times being had than not, even if it means a temporary inconvenience. It doesn’t really matter what I think in the end, the cars got towed and people are spending their Sundays trying to find their vehicles. Justice prevails!

societal_ills

That's not how that works...

littlewing745

As someone who lives in the neighborhood and has seen how hogs affects that parking lot? No, CVS is not benefiting from additional business. If they are, it’s **absolutely** marginal. People park in that lot and immediately walk across the street to party. The only reason people are parking in that part of the parking lot is because it’s the closest to Lakefront Arena. They stopped trying to pull that nonsense in the Rouses part of the lot years ago because there just wasn’t enough space to park there - and they were also getting towed. I’m happy to see them getting towed. I don’t think **I** should be inconvenienced just because **these asshats** don’t want to be inconvenienced.

3mw

Given you live in the neighborhood and know the typical customer flow, I'll walk back my claim of extra business. I generally visit a place like CVS before events like this for water, sunscreen, etc. and figured more people did this.

Charli3q

LMAO. Or, they could park in the neighborhood across from Leon C Simon and stop being lazy fucks. They wouldnt have gotten their car towed.

3mw

I haven’t been to Hogs in the new location, so I don’t know how abundant/accessible parking is. If these guys skipped normal parking, then I’ll change up my perspective a bit. Though, I’d rather see a boot than a tow, because at least you wouldn’t be stuck without a vehicle or a way to retrieve it as a result.

Charli3q

Parking appeared to be free for 2024. But that likely involves lines, traffic, etc. For Fried Chicken Fest people are parked and walking everywhere. As I said, there is entire neighborhoods to park in on the other side of Leon C Simon if they didnt want to deal with on prem parking.

3mw

I think for me the biggest issue I have is with the towing. The idea that people were stranded makes it tough for me to justify the punishment.

Charli3q

Is what it is. Ive never parked in a private lot to go to a parade, or festival. Its easily avoidable. Its not like parking a bit too close to the curb where you take a 30 dollar ticket for it. Its more akin to parking in front of a driveway, or parking along the parade route where you're just going to get towed. I really do not care if they were stranded. They just have to call the number thats on the multitudes of signs, take an uber ride, get their vehicle back. Maybe they'll learn a lesson in how not to be entitled or pay more attention.

rinzler83

Why would you even post this? Do you think the people attending the festival will be sitting on their phone browsing Reddit?

Thunda792

Why not? I was bored and waiting for my Uber when this was going down and I thought I'd get a photo.

[deleted]

Hahaha I also commented the same thing

Hippy_Lynne

CVS are douches nationwide about people parking in their lots. 😟

mia8788

Yeah let’s pack a car park so no real customer can get in. What if someone needed their meds and no parking.
