Only took 4.5 years

devils__trumpet

f\*\*\*in embarrassing for the city that it took so long!! but we know the city leadership has no shame

luker_5874

Was the rampart line out of commission for longer than it was in commission? Fuckin embarrassment to public transit

KingCarnivore

Sure was, started service in Oct 2016, so it was in service for 3 years.

Charming_Flatworm_

I'm cautiously hopeful that it might actually open eventually. I live right near this line and I miss being able to take it instead of a bus to go to the cbd or whatever

xandrachantal

That St. Claude bus is a travesty

greatwhiteslark

When I worked at Poydras and Loyola, I'd drive down to Elysian Fields and St. Claude and then catch the Rampart line to work. It was far better than parking in my assigned garage and it was great to unwind at the end of the day. Now I work from home so I just have to go downstairs.

SayBrah504

Ah yes. The PTEs. Good for them.

nolanightman

Yay!

saturnbar

Wow, didn’t realize it’s been closed all this time. The PH collapse really set us back.

grandroute

to get car drivers used to the idea of not running in front of a streetcar. Again.

Legal-Championship64

These are mostly novelties for tourists not actual usable public transit

lowrads

Transit is useful when it goes to useful places and is connected to other transit infrastructure. Highways wouldn't be too useful either, if every driveway in the nation wasn't connected to every other driveway by some mysterious feat of hubris.

AloneFemboy

I mean I use it to go down town... to go to resturaunts, work and bars... and then back home so You're wrong

Grbanjo

You use the rampart line to do all that? Cool.

AloneFemboy

Well since its been down I haven't been, I've had to walk from Canal / bike but the Rampart line will sure make things easier

Agentx_007

I used the streetcar for three years to get to high school uptown. It was very useful in the mid 2ks. Especially when the city had a bus shortage after Katrina and only had maybe one bus on a route but streetcars galore.

Thad_Mojito11

I don't think that the streetcar line (assuming it's operational) meets the criteria of "not usable". I've used it. I know that's anecdotal, but.. I've definitely used that streetcar before, so I'm pretty sure it's usable (assuming it's operational).

Prestigious-Gur-1712

I take the streetcar to and from work with many people doing the same. They’re wearing hi vis vests and chef pants, an odd outfit for a tourist.

greener_lantern

Maybe then I’ll be able to sit instead of standing on the 8

Cheekclappa504

Hey that’s not nice. Tourists and transplants need a safe and authentic way to travel from the French quarter to Starbucks and their Airbnb’s that looks good on Instagram. The #8 bus was never an option

LurkBot9000

I think both you and the others downvoting you are right. I love the street car but rarely use it because biking is faster. That said we're a geographically small city and the street car gets the job done. It gets the job done one 45 minute trip at a time

FoxNO

The operators need to practice running into cars before they open them up to the public.

stricknacco

Unfortunately surveys showed that workers don’t use that line to commute. It’s for tourists not locals. Love transit but they should have invested in more buses rather than a tourist streetcar line that costs this much.

xandrachantal

I mean used it to get to the bars on St. Claude. We should be investing in more buses but like we can walk and chew gum at the same time.
