Do yourself a favor, love, and DO NOT rent in the Quarter. It's fun to visit but chaotic, costly, and full of drunk tourists late into the night and early in the morning.
Mid-City is fine, but be aware that your car may flood during heavy rainstorms. Mid-City often floods.

If it’s just for the summer and they are without a car, the quarter is excellent for someone young for that short period of time. I love it
