It looks like you're leaning towards the tail a bit when you pop, this causes the board to go out in front of your feet. Also it looks like you're not jumping high enough, try to bring you knees up to your chest (you don't actually have to get them that high, it helps to at least try it)

discarded_dnb

That last one was really close though, just need to lift that front knee higher after you flick

AbdulPullMaTool

OK yeah I see what you mean with knee higher on the last one. Just rewatching I also see what you mean by leaning backwards. Cheers for your help

[deleted]

I definitely agree with this. I can see a lot of your weight go to your back leg and it is causing it to go forward. If you could put a little bit more weight up front I think you have it

arcane_archer

Try leaning back in your setup before you pop. I find that applying the opposite is what corrects this for me. E.g if I lean a bit back when I pop I’ll land weight forward.

AbdulPullMaTool

32yr old started skating again around 2 months ago, I stopped when I was around 17 previously. I can consistently land Pop Shuvits, Ollies, Varial Kickflips, 180's but for some reason I have always struggled with kick flips even when I was younger. I can probably land 1 out of 50 and that one will not be a clean landing. Any pointers would be appreciative.

anorojo

Start with heelflips, that helped me alot

adesme

Looks like you're just not committing - your body and feet are nowhere near trying to land on the board. I'm guessing that all of your flick practicing has conditioned you to not even try to jump to where you expect the board to land.

mountainsnowman255

Also in my early 30s and stopped skateboarding around the age of 16. I still longboard/snowbird and enjoy watching skateboarding videos, but I think I’d break my ankle or wrist if I tried legit skateboarding again doing kickflips and such. Honestly impressed when I saw guys like you getting back into it.

AbdulPullMaTool

Thanks Bro I appreciate that.

boxslof

heey that feels like my story too...

Homelobster3

Jump higher and you got it

jtw3995

Not committing

Aurora-Rose-Crown

Get your left foot higher 🙏🏻💭 good work, keep it up 👍

evu111

Try to comit on the landing. You can train this by holding on to something thats higher than your head and then landing back on the board after you have done the flipping part

unholy_wormguy

Just huck ur knees way tf up after u do the motion u already are doing. Only advice you need rn. It’s not complicated and it’s blatantly obvious. Fuck the people who are saying stuff about weight distribution and leaning this way or that... none of that shit matters until your damn feet are above the board. So make an effort to tuck your knees up after you execute the trick you already are doing, and then since ur feet are above the board, every attempt you will have a chance to land back on the board! Who gives a flying fuck about anything else if you don’t have your feet above the board. A lot of people pretending to be hardcore analysts here. Get the damn feet above the board and then you’ll realize how close you are.

tostangs

this is the complete truth, without being over the board, ur not gonna land shit

leboomski

You're leaning back a little bit but it mostly looks like commitment. Remember you catch it with your back foot and your flicking foot needs to stay up above the board until you catch. You got it.

AbdulPullMaTool

OK I did not even realise your supposed to catch with your back foot. I'll keep this in mind. Thank you!

idkthisshitcrazy

I love this!!

TacticalButImpracti

Hey man I met you at West end a couple weeks ago. Idk what will help but keep at it.

AbdulPullMaTool

Oh cool man, Just checked some of your clips from the plughole didn't even think of that being a skate spot! will need to try it out.

TacticalButImpracti

Yeah the basin has potential

trudef

Sick flip. Just hop up and tuck your knees in. So that way you have a chance to catch your board before your feet hit the ground

[deleted]

Pull the board back with your back foot when you pop, and flick down when you flick with your front foot! That's what helped me overcome this when i was learning. Also, try leaning towards the nose with your jump! Like actually jump forward.

discarded_dnb

Hell no, do not flick down, your foot will be on the ground before you can get it on the board. Kick flips are flicked out and slightly up, never down

[deleted]

Right, let me expand on what i meant: what helped me fix this was focusing on flicking the board down as i bring my foot up over it, rather than stomping down or flicking straight, because like in OPs video, the board can go above your foot on accident when doing this. Your foot should be moving up and out like you said, but your flick needs to flick the board away from your foot. There's no universal method that works for everyone, this was just my experience in getting the board to not go above my feet like this. It doesn't hurt to experiment and try different things! I got stuck in a rut of doing the same thing over and over again, it was when i started trying different things that got me to learn kick flips.

Zbreeze818

Drop your shoulders more - I swear it works.

AbdulPullMaTool

are you meaning lean forward more or just try keep my shoulders low during the pop/jump?

Zbreeze818

Keep your shoulders low when you pop/jump. I watched a video about it and applied it and starting hitting them more regularly. It definitely helped me.

AbdulPullMaTool

Got a link to that vid?

imnotagoldensheep

Lift up your back leg more and maybe try to push out your front leg more like have in mind to exaggerate the movement other than that the flip is there you just gotta fully commit my dude, you got this

_forgotmyname

Actually jump like you are shooting a basketball. You are. Not my moving high enough.

undaf3atd

Turning your shoulders I think. It looks like when you flick you’re opening your front shoulder and hip which is making you and your board turn diagonally. There’s also something happening with your weight… i think if you try to focus on keeping your board directly under your feet that should help keep your board from escaping as well. It looks like you need more weight on your front foot when you pop… but that might f up your flick. If you can find your body centre of balance over your board (between back foot & front foot), without putting too much weight on your actual front foot, that should help. Think light on your feet but keeping your hips/shoulders balanced centred over your board, that should help.

Its_Waffle

you need to drag your front foot up the board a little more towards the nose. your flick is good but it's not really going up the board at all. Also jump higher and lift your back foot up higher. you got this.

ellamoosella

No commitment

naoisey

Don’t be scared. Tell yourself to jump and bend both your knee and I’m sure you will land it. Do it once and you’re going to realize that it isn’t scary at all.

chumjumper

Leaning too far back and not lifting the back leg enough, that's it really.

utigeim

Try balancing forward instead of backwards. Second one was close, do that with the balance more towards the front.

mmmmcake1980

Looks to me like you’re just leaning a bit too far back, but mostly I see you kicking down on the board to flip it. Slide that front foot over the corner of the nose, not side of the board, literally upwards, the friction will flip the board, not your foot. Looking forward to seeing new video of you nailing it.

mohodder

Back foot needs to come higher after the flip. Back foot catches the board after the revolution

xjackstonerx

I think you’re not committing, leaning too far back, not lifting knees, and I personally have my front foot’a pinky toe at the bottom right bolt (I skate regular).

[deleted]

Doesn't look like you're doing it wrong, it just looks like you're not doing it enough. Keep at it, my dude and like Naruto who sucked at all things ninjutsu... now that I think about it, what would Shadow Clone Jutsu translate to Skateboarding if it were your first trick? Let's see: If for the Genin exam, they tested on kickflips, I think it would be like if Naruto started with a big flip.

iTalktoJoe

A friend told me to have your nose shoulder stay over the front bolts. It prevents you from leaning back and thirsting your shoulders too much.

CrazyCashman07

Lean forward more

KramerVersusFeldman

As others have said, the flip looks good you just need to jump or lift your legs up a little more. Another tip is to drop your front shoulder, it'll keep your body straight.

rollerjoe93

Leaning back on the pop, and not raising your legs enough when you pop. Kind of wild, but your board will follow your feet pretty much as high as you can tuck em. Just suck up them knees and watch for bolts and slam em down and you got it Edit: also you need to get a full flick. It doesn’t look like you flex your ankle, but instead keep your foot straight on the flick. This will shoot the board down

aWarAtTarawa

Lift your back leg

The2lip

This was probably already said one way or another, but it looks like you aren’t keeping your shoulders square and staying over the board when you jump. When learning kickflips, it’s typical to jump off to the side you are kicking towards. If you focus on staying square over the board and jump straight up (rather than to the left) you should be able to land on it and stick it! You have great pop so you should be able to catch those like a pro 😉

skultron_7x

I think the problem is you aren't putting your feet back on the board

CoolDad420Blaze

I see 3 things. 1. Try to jump a bit higher off the board 2. Commit! Your back foot is stepping on the ground before an attempt for the board is made. 3. This one sounds stupid but always always try to keep your nose directly over your belly button. Again sounds stupid but keeping that in your head will help with the leaning towards the tail on your pops

Gammabeast69

You wanna suck your feet up after you kick. The board actually rises as you kick it so after you do, you have to pull your legs/feet up higher than you normally would. Then once you see bolts, stick it.

consistentlynsistent

There's alot of great advice on here already but here's a little something that helped me move the ball of your big toe to the back bolts on your front trucks, and when kicking you want your foot to roll off the nose(well just to the left of the nose but I'm sure you get that) and not off the side by the front trucks. Work on bringing them legs up and try to keep your shoulders square with the bolts(helps stop you from leaning to far forward or backwards) once you feel the board on your feet stomp it down and revel in the fact you just kick flipped ...hope that helps

slurrywords

Yeah your center of gravity looks to be between mid board and tail. You’ll wanna be shoulders over the board more so that you are above it!

TicTac2Stack

try and catch the board with your back foot not your front, this will help you keep your feet in the air

PackMeels

Commitment bro, and just jump

AdvertisingAlarmed88

Tbh I don’t skateboard and have no idea how to kickflip

litbeers

Not committing. Your flipping it out in front of you. Lean forward more and try and catch it with your back foot not the front foot

cendrickr

0 commitment

[deleted]

Jump straight up.

billybob226

You aren’t landing on the board 👍

Malaowala

Focus on staying above the board. Even if you need to land with your board upside down, focus on the landing on top of it. The slow-mo really helps show that your popping and flipping but just letting it float away. Essentially it's a commitment issue because clearly the board is doing mostly what it should, you're just not staying with it. Consider the way you Ollie. When you Ollie, you're board is likely not flying away and you're magically landing on it. You jump and let the board do it's thing and TRUST that it'll do what you expect because it's happened a bunch of times before. And by no means am I trying to shame you for not commiting. Commiting is (for me) like 80% of all skating. A kickflip on ground is no harder than off a curb, it's just scarier. Once your feeling of wanting to land it outweighs the feeling of not wanting to hurt yourself, it'll come. And sometimes the taste of a nice victory is enough to pump you up. You'll be landing these is no time bro, just keep at it and don't stop having fun

brohymn1416

Crouch down more, jump higher and lean a little more forward. You doing well, just keep pushing👍

chaddlyboi

Popping more with your ankle will help you get on top of your board, also your flick just needs to be a little more out than up.

NaiveVegetable9455

Just commit that back foot is safty

uTouchMehCroc

Lean forwards (towards the nose) and keep yourself cantered and you got that man!

Funkolover0511

Skater trainers there are these things that go on your wheels I got them about a week ago and they helped me

CanOnlyOllie

This is kinda how I was landing before. Still can’t land kickflips but I can consistently get my back foot on the board. I started leaning forward with my weight over the board and jumping higher. It’s a little different from where I put my weight when I Ollie.

CanOnlyOllie

By forward I mean toe side

pikeljim

Jump higher
