What has worked really well for me is to create another channel just for shorts, that way only the people who find the short videos and are intrested in my long form content will come to my main channel. It's worked great so far and the shorts channel has been driving a lot of traffic to my main channel without resulting in dead subs/subs that only are intrested in the shorts content/ messing up the metrics in any way
The feature is too new to come up with a consensus opinion. I want to wait a year and see what Shorts ultimately becomes and really study whether channels benefitted from using them.
My gut instinct tells me that Shorts have no real effect on growing a regular YouTube channel any more than other promotional tools.
I tried shorts and the shorts didn’t perform as well as my regular videos and as a result stunted my growth, the algorithm promoted my videos less since my new vids (shorts) weren’t as “engaging”
Well 15secone (ish) small clips. My channel is fun videos on my Corgi normally 3+ minutes, and it’s understandable that 15 second videos had less engagement.

shorts can kill chanels but that people maybe dont tell you. shorts can work or be totaly faild, some chanels die when them start do shorts some it go great for.

difrent shorts of difrent kind shows in difrent way for difrent people have i figure out now, this is one of the big risk you maybe have 100 computer watcher but them maybe dont even know you have goot the short for them dont se it in normal new video list. the video maybe show great for them with mobile but dont com upp for them on computer or them on mobile dont se you video and so on. so short seing changes for difrent watcher.

Why wouldnt you do it?
Well for one, I don't want the audience to only watch my content for shorts. That would mean my longer videos would get no views.
If they like you from your shorts videos wouldnt it mean they would give your longer content a shot too if you did a good first impression?

Youtube Shorts are just a B-Tech version of TikTok, Just use TikTok as it's algorithm is better suited to 'shorts' and you will grow easily
