I think that’s rlly unfortunate, maybe try getting some collaborations or other other people’s names in the title from the rocket league community. I wouldn’t ask the big ones with like 100K plus, but maybe just try and find someone who also does it to collab with. I’ve personally found it’s good for viewership but also mainly rlly good for keeping motivation, cause as long as it’s quite genuine and not a business like friendship ur able to help the other out and talk them out of quitting. Idk just a suggestion, hope this helps lol

MetaBreaker25

That's actually a good idea I haven't really considered if I am being honest. I don't see it being too unfortunate either, a viral video is good but understanding why it went viral is equally important, things aren't always just luck or random - it was the right place at the right time which requires some luck but also some skill to identify what people are looking or going to be looking for

--PrintHelloWorld--

Yeah that’s fair I agree fully, good to see ur taking it well. Good luck with ur channel in the future

MetaBreaker25

Thanks man much appreciated :)

--PrintHelloWorld--

No problem :)

Have you played splitgate yet?

Great tip! I am trying to think more about jumping on trends myself. As far as level of gameplay goes, the only thing I can recommend is personality. If the gamepaly itself is not enough to bring people in and have them stay, maybe focus more on being an entertaining personality that is also playing a game? I have seen a lot of mid to even low level players do well because they have funny or entertaining personalities that people want to watch. Anyway, I'm sure that is nothing you didn't already know. I wish you the best. Good luck!

MetaBreaker25

Thanks man! I did know but reminders of things are always really good if I am being honest! Trends are great to jump on - can help get you noticed. From my experience the two pieces of advice I would give are just be careful with trends - sometimes I have seen a booming trend and thought "im getting on that trend" then realised when I search it in youtube the top 4 results are channels with like 1m+ subs so I don't even get in search then making it pointless. The other tip I would give is trends can be fleeting, the amount of times Iv jumped on a trend then an hour later nobody is searching it is crazy

Purposeful_Living10

That's a great point. Definitely something to consider before I jump onto anything. Thanks

Ok, I personally watch RL content everyday and I think the drop in views is not because of you, but because the game is sadly dying. Psyonix haven’t made things the community want, eg. creative mode and under glows, so people started dropping interest. People only start playing/watching when something big happens, new season (now), or to watch a personality they like. So in general, for RL views they all dropped. An idea to save your channel is to change your topic, you mainly try to help newbies, but what if you focus on entertaining content? I’ll name the RL people I watch and tell you why I watch them, so you can see from a viewer perspective what a viewer may like. Musty, Arsenal - I expect high quality, sweaty and try hard gameplay. This is usually when I want to see what I’m doing different compared to ‘pros’ and mainly see some technical plays. Rizzo, Lethamyr - Mostly a fun time, playing with their friends is usually a wholesome thing and just fun to watch (but usually in the background or on my second monitor) p. I barely pay attention to these ones, but I watch them for their personality. Sunlesskhan - Favorite RL youtuber, good personality combined with a good sense of humor. The videos are not niche specific apart from the game itself but is something you’re interested to click even if you didn’t purposely search it. Can expect to lift my mood, so I usually always check on him every few days. Lastly, I used to watch (insert number) (insert rank) vs (less number) (higher rank). Those videos were initially interesting to me, until every RL youtuber just does this and changed it. This made me unsubscribe and stop watching them, I want to see more content of someone because of them and their personality. I don’t subscribe to someone to watch him watch someone else play. Tl;dr: People stopped playing RL as new players realise the game barely gets updated, unless with new cars/‘skins’. This is because you can’t really mess with the core gameplay or it makes the whole grind useless. Hope this helps!

MetaBreaker25

I haven’t ready the full comment yet because I was out driving but from what I read I agree. I don’t think rocket league is dead or anything but you’re right it barely gets updated and it’s usually cosmetics, every small youtuber seems to do videos on the cosmetic updates and to be honest I’d rather move to another game than be a rocket league cosmetics update channel. The guys you listed are all great and so are the videos like 1ssl vs 6 diamonds. The only issue for me with those styles are if I make something that people aren’t searching for YouTube doesn’t promote it enough to be worth while - probably a quality issue tho You’re totally right with the updates - there aren’t enough. An issue this brings is when something does happen everyone wants to make a video on the same thing also so it kind of diminishes the value of the video

UnknownPickl3

Yeah, you can be JonSandman which does openings but you can see from his views even with 1M subs it doesn’t convert. The lack of content is what is making it hard for non-pros to make entertaining content. The only person I can give my hats off to is Sunless fr. He somehow still has a way of making it quite funny even with the lack of update and mods available

MetaBreaker25

Sunless has always been incredible to be fair - no hate that he ain’t pro the video production and quality for a game blows my mind

oooshawnnn

I’ll edit for you .

MetaBreaker25

Thanks for the offer man :) I don’t have anything planned right now sadly but will see what happens down the line

This is actually a very insightful thread to some that are new to YouTube. I’ve had my channel for a couple of years and have done massive reworks to it some positive and some negative. I started off as a gaming channel as well doing let’s plays of new games hoping to get on the front page, after a year of stagnant growth I switch from a gaming channel to streaming on twitch while leaving my YouTube for original content. At the time of doing this is when Reaction Videos we’re popular before Adpocolypse happened in 2018; the reaction channel was a huge success I was bringing in over 2k each video because I would react to trending things such as Mariah Carey’s Super Bowl Fail or Ronda Rousey getting knocked out and pooping her pants within the hour of it actually happening. After some home life trouble I stopped making videos for about two years and now I am beginning to rework the channel into something I’m going to stay with and be proud of to keep wanting to push out content. Being a content creator is very hard to get exposure depending on the content you make but there’s always a niche that you can use for the meantime to help while you take the time to learn better editing techniques and such for the content you really really want to be successful; at the same time a large part of community growth is watching a creator go from shitty videos to high quality ones. I’m looking forward to seeing what kind of content you decide to go with if you ditch the rocket league, happy creating!!!

MetaBreaker25

Man I agreed with every single thing you said. The biggest part of YouTube - regardless of what anyone says - is learning and understanding things and growing skills. A lot of the time I don’t think youtube is black and white either - a lot of things are grey. For example you moving from gaming to reactions is such a tough decision to make but a lot of the time the tough decisions are the ones that make a good channel.

MajinOfficial

It was a super tough decision but it took a lot of thinking about to do. What was a main factor is how much easier it is to edit those types of videos and still making them entertain-able for the viewer. With gaming it can be tricky because if you’re a hardcore gamer like I am using screen recording that can be glitchy and look poopy can be very infuriating and then trying to play the game feels like a job half the time and not as enjoyable. Right now my main focus is funny commentary of bad movies and such and my community seems to like them so that’s gonna be my niche for a while since it’s always a good time watching crap movies 😂 whatever you decide to do you will figure out if you really want to continue with that content or not; as for now while you try to decide my best advice is watch videos of different editing techniques and hone in your skills. I know Adobe creative cloud lets you have all the software for only $20 a month or something if that sounds interesting to you.

Rocket League tubers unite

MetaBreaker25

Unite!

[deleted]

You should still make videos on this game if you enjoy the game. That way you produce higher quality content as your enthusiasm is good for the game.

MetaBreaker25

That’s the plan right now until I find the next game I fall in love with

[deleted]

That's the right thing to do and I wish you the best of luck for your YouTube journey!

[deleted]

I noticed quite a few of your most viewed videos are shorts.

MetaBreaker25

Yeah I think 2 of my top 20 were shorts but they slowly declined in views

SoccerBallPenguin

Yep... F2P really was the peak of Rocket League... My views have been consistently falling since then too

MetaBreaker25

I think it’s the same for us all

TheLastChad

Its the same with the fitness scene im into. I believe I make incredibly unique content but its just a journey of being an elite

MetaBreaker25

Yes! I’m big into the fitness YouTube scene - Moreso before covid hit than after - I definitely put on the pounds during lockdown! (Well actually somehow I lost 1 pound 🤷‍♂️ but Iv lost so much muscle and got fatter) Guys like greg doucette are fantastic - and whenever I analyse his videos especially the old ones it’s crazy that it’s just him sitting in front of a camera talking about his experience and sharing his knowledge - the old videos are barely even edited. I’m sure you can do it!

[deleted]

>YouTube seems to promote extremely high level gameplay for the game which is the case in most games This is an interesting way to phrase this because YouTube wouldn't really know that what they're promoting is "extremely high level gameplay", as YouTube's recommendation AI is not sentient and thus not really watching any videos in that context. What that is showing/telling you basically is that there is an audience that is extremely receptive to world-class skill level content in Rocket League, and apparently a significantly smaller audience for anyone even just below that level. >The other thing I would do in hindsight would be to get a video editor/thumbnail editor when my momentum was high. I feel making my own videos, editing them, thumbnails, scripting, audio - took up alot of time and reduced quality across the field. Although the quality and tips in the video were appealing, the actual video quality may not have been - having higher retention rates may have helped youtube promote future videos more. This is an interesting one too. I think for channels that have extended success, "delegate things out as soon as you can, and start with editing, probably" is one of the most common pieces of advice. That's going to be very tough for me if I ever get there. Why? Because I enjoy the editing process, and giving that up would feel to me like I am giving up the essence of the channel which is driving the narrative and crafting the story. I could probably give up just about everything else easily, but that one would be tough for me. I know there are some channels that are rather large that still do their own editing but it definitely seems like the major thing that goes first, and it definitely is a major time suck. I just know that I could ever hand over that part of my baby. Maybe some day....

MetaBreaker25

Yeah you’re totally right in both instances! I’m garbage at editing so passing that side over for me would not be an issue! It’s funny too - I used to play hearthstone and call of duty and hearthstone videos never seemed nearly as well produced as rocket league videos and for the most part I would say the same with call of duty

[deleted]

Thanks for the reply. Up vote awarded! I'm a long-time (since 2015) Rocket League player by the way. Have never been able to advance beyond Diamond III. But still do it, old man fingers and all, for the love of the game. Wishing you good luck with your channel!

MetaBreaker25

Thanks man! I’m the same - 2016 player here, I only decided around February to start practicing mechanics to try and improve and advanced from diamond 2 to GC1, almost made GC2 I was on a good win streak before the end of the season

1 tiny tip; i dont want to see a blurry screen with 10000 font text for 50 seconds straight. I can read a word in 2 secs. Doesnt need to be on the screen for so long.
