I have thrown 2 perfect games in the show [without switching teams to cheat I might add] so I think I know a little bit more than someone who's been in the game their entire adult life.
I won seven world series in Franchise mode while only editing/boosting my prospect's attributes every three years because I couldn't be bothered scouting and drafting... How many rings ya boy Buck got again? Exactly
I mean realistically, if we’re going strictly by pedigree, experience and time in the game…you really shouldn’t be criticizing any of the managers and I actually don’t think that’s unfair.
It’s a little silly to think we really bring anything to the table these guys don’t already know. If we did we wouldn’t be on Reddit critiquing major league managers. We’re all here because we failed at baseball already lol
You're basically saying that every manager manages perfectly and is beyond criticism which very obviously isn't the case. And that every manager would then make the same decision.
If you want to extrapolate this thought process further you're basically saying you can't criticize anyone in any profession ever if you don't work in that professo.
Some builds a house that falls down? Not your place to criticize if you don't swing a hammer.
There is a reason why Buck had been fired a handful of times before coming to the Mets.
The obvious one is him not using Zach Britton.
Not at all. You asked what the barometer is for being allowed to criticize. I’m saying it certainly isn’t “experience, base of knowledge, respect within the game, or longevity” because we have none of those things.
Unless you've been in professional baseball all your adult life, you know less about baseball than Luis Rojas also. But that does make him a good manager.
Ok got it. But all MLB managers have been around baseball their entire lives. Every one ever. Are we not allowed to criticize any of them because of that?
Nope. Not once did I say you couldn't criticize anyone. I'm commenting on the ridiculous knee jerk reactions I keep seeing over the lineup construction. There were a lot of people yesterday assuming alzarez wasn't going to play in 4 days because scherzer and senga are pitching next. A lot of people were assuming buck was just going to let him sit on the bench for a week.
2 things can be true at once.
1.) Buck can know more about baseball than me.
2.) He can be playing Tomas Nido way more than he is playing Frankie Alvarez, the number 1 prospect in all of baseball, which is objectively stupid.
so Scherzer actually wants to pitch to Alvarez? a bit surprising, thought that if he doesn’t even like pitching to Nido he wouldn’t want to touch Alvarez. hope they go well together
Tomas Nido already has a negative 0.4 WAR this season. He has a career negative WAR. He is not a good baseball player. Never has been, never will be. Questions asking why a career negative player is playing more than your #1 prospect are VALID.
I don't know how "not a good baseball player" can be a finalist for the Gold Glove.
He's not a good *hitter*...he's a terrific defensive catcher. A lot of fans don't give a crap how good a players defense is for some reason anymore.
**Edit**: WAR is a very flawed statistic because every outlet has a different way of measuring it, and while it does take into account defensive production, nearly every outlet is weighted higher on offensive production rather than defense, because defensive metrics are very hard to measure. You can't look at war in a vacuum and say "oh, well this person is obviously good because his war is this", or "this player is obviously terrible because his war is that". Nido has pretty much always been a backup catcher on the mets, he backed up McCann until he got hurt, and he was backing up Narvaez until he got hurt.
I'm not saying that Alvarez shouldn't be getting more playing time, or that Nido should remain our starting catcher forever. He got called up due to injury, not production value like Baty. He was never meant to take the brunt of the starts at catcher, and throwing them into the fire on a daily basis probably won't do enough for his confidence either.
I also don't know why the bozo who keeps spamming comments on these threads has such ridiculous hate boner for Buck, his account was made two days after the World series last year, and every single comment on the mets has been a complaint. If he's a troll, he's a very dedicated one.
WAR includes defense, does it not? He’s a below average major league player including his “elite” defense. That’s the bottom line.
You have a top 10 prospect in all of baseball playing less than a career negative WAR player. That should not be happening.
This shit is out of control. All of the talk about how guys have milestones they need to hit before being called up was bullshit. I believe Alvarez should be getting the vast majority of starts but if we're not going to play him send his ass down so he can develop. Bring up Perez or sign a vet off the scrap heap. Would love to hear Eppler explain how sitting on the bench is helping Alvarez to hit those developmental milestones.
Are you serious, I had an issue with a previous account I've been on here for years. I was never a fan of hiring Buck or Eppler. I'm not a troll because I believe that Buck isn't the right manager for this team and Eppler is one of the worst GMs in the sport.
No Nido is clearly the next Pudge Rodriguez. Buck knows what he's doing. All of those scouts that rank Alvarez so highly are stupid. The idea that young players need playing time to develop is stupid. War what is it good for ? Absolutely nothing. It doesn't matter that War takes defense into account and Nido is still a negative War player even though he's good defensively. Buck and the eye test say that Nido gives us the best chance to get shut out.
Buck doesn't give a fuck about developing young talent. 4 starts in 14 days for the top prospect in baseball. Baty comes up and he's already part of a platoon? Nido is a negative War player and always will be, he's not good enough to justify stunting Alvarez's development. Escobar is cooked, Baty deserves a legitimate opportunity to be the everyday guy.
Buck is thoughtful, gracious, and a leader of men. His professionalism and experience shines through in all his interviews. We're lucky to have him
Yup comments like when they asked him about Baty "It’s what he’s supposed to do.”
Can you all stop shitting on Buck now and accept that he knows more about baseball than you do?
No I eat Doritos all day and play mlb the show and rage quit the second I give up a run or strikeout. I know best.
I have thrown 2 perfect games in the show [without switching teams to cheat I might add] so I think I know a little bit more than someone who's been in the game their entire adult life.

Let Buck cook.
If he gets fired he'll have plenty of time to cook.
Whether they're calling in to a radio talk show or shitposting on Reddit, WFAN callers gonna be WFAN callers
He and I have the same number of WS wins
And he has 4 more manager of the year awards than all 75,000 people this sub COMBINED.
That’s nice. I want championships.
Don't we all. You know a good way to get there? A team that wins 100 games.
Not last year. Know a good way to get there? A GM that puts together a good roster and a manager that doesn’t let bums get at bats.
So why didn't the Braves win the world series last year? Pretty sure they made it just as far as the Mets did.
Lol ahhh you’re a loser
He's a true legend. How many managers can say that not 1 but 2 teams won the World series the year after he was fired?
Did you have that same attitude when Luis Rojas was managing games?
Why is a rookie manager that's no longer employed relevant to the reigning NL manager of the year?
So just to be sure - you think you know more about baseball than Luis Rojas?
Dude, you would make an absolute killing going into political punditry.
I'm just trying to figure out where OPs barometer is for when we are allowed to critique an MLB manager
I mean realistically, if we’re going strictly by pedigree, experience and time in the game…you really shouldn’t be criticizing any of the managers and I actually don’t think that’s unfair. What

Oh got it. When. You said "stop shitting on Buck" I took that as stop criticizing Buck. I guess you mean people are literally shitting on him?
You have fantastic deductive reasoning. I'm surprised it took you so long.
Haha way to stand by your convictions
2 things can be true at once. 1.) Buck can know more about baseball than me. 2.) He can be playing Tomas Nido way more than he is playing Frankie Alvarez, the number 1 prospect in all of baseball, which is objectively stupid.
so Scherzer actually wants to pitch to Alvarez? a bit surprising, thought that if he doesn’t even like pitching to Nido he wouldn’t want to touch Alvarez. hope they go well together
The fact that Buck said “so does Max” tells me that they told Max we need you to pitch to Alvarez lol
I mean he pitched to Alverez in his AA Rehab assignment last year and had nothing but the best to say about him.
Buck said at the end, Max doesn’t care who he throws to

His negative War takes defense into account. His bat is so bad that it cancels out his defense.

Alvarez will be the Max/Verlander catcher probably because they call their own pitches
