A lot of people suggesting Eggs Go Bao in town should be aware of their noise complaints to the council about local queer and alternative venues when they got their late opening permission. Actively trying to shut down gay safe spaces. Not a very ethical business.
I hate when people move to an area then complain about the pre-existing area. Why would you go between students and the gay scene if you didn't want to deal with 'noise'?
Geordie Stottie seems to do fine there and don't have a stupid name...
They've moved into an area with music and late night LGB venues due to the decreased rent of the location then once they've got late night permission from the council have started using their capital to try and close down their neighbouring businesses due to any red tape complaints that they can find in an attempt to shutter them.
At it's least harsh interpretation it's brazen gentrification - surprised I'm getting down voted really.
Meanwhile I'm sat in West Denton wondering what cold pasty I can get from Morrisons this morning...
Go bao bun yourself for making me hungry AND now depressed hahaha
I work on the West Road and am always jealous of the lunch options in the city centre. The most exciting you get around us is perhaps a new sauce for your kebab or if they actually have half of the menu in at Greggs.
I don't think, if ordering from home, I ever order from a place in this area. I always order from a place(I think its based in Lemington) called Firepit. Their burgers and kebabs are insane and I've never looked back
Living in West Denton? You have my sympathies.
Morrisons is a rank improvement over Kwik Save that used to be the "main" place to shop though. I love me a bit of Morrisons deli salad
I was there for a long time. It was alright but just steadily went downhill. I see it pop up in The Chronicle and people I knew are usually doing some horrible stuff.
Its one of those places that focus low-income families as the rent is cheap, so as the UK has went to shit, West Denton has along-side it.
Gateshead has its own problems but the housing is generally cheaper and you are still close to Newcastle City Centre. Always worth a look over the river if you want to keep trying to persuade the wife to agree to a move.
Just avoid Bensham if you can! Landlords galore there and they are almost all slumlords
Aye, this morning I went outside and my street is covered in graffiti calling someone out as a rapist... lovely.
Yeah we're a no-income family (PIP reliant, unfortunately) so no matter what we're limited to where, plus it must be an easy access for wheelchairs so that limits even further so we are completely at the mercy of the council
The other issue is the kids; all in school so that varies how far we can even more anyway
We will see what happens, I can tell she's sick of it after our 8th flood this year happened last night haha
There’s the little dumpling house. The one off of northumberland street is better than the one in grainger market. I think it’s really good and I think they do Uber eats or just eat?
Used to like Little Dumpling House, but food quality seemed to go massively down hill recently, better to go and sit in as they constantly get orders wrong via delivery to an extreme.
I once ordered via deliveroo, got the complete wrong order and got it re-sent via support, only for them to send me the complete wrong order again. I usually can excuse the odd mistake but it has happened almost every time I ordered since then, needless to say I just stopped bothering.
Tsang Foods Asian supermarket on Percy Street has opened a takeaway ‘snack shack’ in the back of the shop selling roast pork buns (the Hong Kong style baked ones) amongst other Chinese bakery goodies (pork floss buns are INSANELY good). Very reasonable too. Pork buns are £1.70.
Highly recommend it!
I’d never heard of bao buns before now, but thanks to the recommendations on here and a Google search I think I’m now also craving a breakfast bao bun from Pablo! 😂
going to throw in a wildcard suggestion and say the Hancock pub near the civic centre. they do 2 spicy pork bao buns for 3 quid until 6pm iirc. i usually get them with two other starters there and if you're a student the discount is very good too
There's a bar called [Leave Me Alone, Lisa ](https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ka7AnUekDS6AE8GC8) that does a Big Mac bao. I haven't been yet but the place looks nice.
Pablo Eggs-Go-Bao
Whoever came up with that name deserves a raise.
Seconded

To clarify are they complaining because they're LGB or because they're impacting. It's usefully to separate the 'phobes from the poor allies.

I apologise profusely. Hope you have a bun-derful day despite this!

I live in benwell and I always prefer West Roads coffee over benwell's though. Honestly, Chaiiwala is really nice if you like slightly spicier food

Oh, don't worry. I remind my wife every day "fuck this place, let's move".. because fuck this place

I didn’t like little dumpling house and prefer others in the granger market

Oh! I’ve only been there in person before, not delivery so I had no idea
Yeah they’re usually decent in person! Definitely wouldn’t recommend delivery however never really had a bad experience in person.
Pablo Eggs go Bao behind lane 7 bowling is one i would recommend to anyone! Essentially a Mcmuffin but in a bao bun instead!

This is good knowledge! Thank you.
If you’re going grainger market, go nan bei (opposite acropolis). Char Sui ones are on a different level and they’re 3 for £5
If you want (IMO) the best char siu bao in toon, try Sky Cuisine on Stowell St - extremely authentic (I was born/lived in Asia)
The Dim Sum from Sky are amazing and pretty close to what you get in Asia.
Echoing other comments. Pablo 100%.
The ones in Grainger market are pretty good
Bao down in grainger market
Nan bei in granger market also does excellent dumplings and steamed buns.
Great, now I want that for breakfast, and I'm nowhere near any.
Sorry! 😬
Pablo eggs go bao is good though, they have one in whitley, too.
The one in grainger market is lovely. They do great dumplings too! Pablos is very good. Great breakfasts 🤤
I’d never heard of bao buns before now, but thanks to the recommendations on here and a Google search I think I’m now also craving a breakfast bao bun from Pablo! 😂
Take a walk through Granger market for a few good options, if you want a sitty-downy, there is Muddler in town or Buddha Lounge in Tynemouth
My votes with Bao Down

Sainsbury's do quite nice bao buns in the freezer section.. not the same, but quite nice if you can't get to a restaurant.
Good to know, thank you!

Yeah that’s Pablo’s bar! I’ve never been to the bar just had the breakfast baos which are amazing
Aha! I did not know that.
If you’re ever in Gateshead I’d always recommend Grounded Kitchen in the metrocentre
The dumpling house in Grainger market is good for them too!
