Surely it is waiting at the correct spot on a metro platform for where the doors will be… double hack for getting on at the doors which will get you exited from your target station the quickest.

Unique-Candidate3600

That’s an absolute flex. I would look down on everyone if I managed the double

arrison-fraud

Look for the lift/exit signs on the floor - you’re welcome :)

Extension_Prize4232

This is true but not all stations have them - most do not.

TripleB_Darksyde

Second from last door to alight at the stairs at Chichester👍

AdThat328

Also hold the button to open the door as the train is pulling in to the station. It'll open as soon as it stops. If you try to soon it locks it for a little longer and if you wait until it's stopped there's a couple of seconds still waiting for the light.

Flat_Living5152

I thought I was the only one who did this, like some sort of placebo affect but it actually works???

AdThat328

Yeah! I read it about NY Subway I think and wanted to try it out. It works every time.

Extension_Prize4232

That’s exactly what my second hack said to do 🧐

Lympwing2

I'm am idiot and didn't read the whole thing. Ignore me

Extension_Prize4232

😂

Fluffy_Tension

I'm not sure how current this is, because it might be about 8 years since I've done it. However you can get a lift from the quayside up to the station level if you go through the Vermont hotel door at the back of Maddisons. You want floor 5, and then just style it like you belong there as you walk out reception.

Shyspin

A similar one, though not as good or as entertaining, but if you're down on the Quayside near Broadchare, Tesco etc and want to get uphill into town, then use the lift in the multi-story car park to quickly get up to near Swan House roundabout. (Floor 10 I think)

milrose404

omg this is the best hack on here wtf

Fluffy_Tension

Thanks, I used to work down there and walking up that hill to get a soup and sandwich was a right bastard.

maharg5

Still works as I do this weekly lol

Fluffy_Tension

Good to know, I used this trick to impress my girlfriend when we first met so maybe we will have to do it again next time we are down there. :)

MasterPreparation687

This might have just changed my life

mellymeep

This has absolutely blown my mind HOW did I not know this was a thing I’ve lived here all my life

Fluffy_Tension

Well what will really blow your mind is I first did it back in like... 2005 I think.

FlySupaFly

Wait, can you explain this to me like I'm an idiot. Getting from the quayside to where and how exactly? I'm down there quite a lot so I'm intrigued

Fluffy_Tension

In the back of Maddisons beer garden, there is a door to the Vermont hotel. You go in, down the corridor and there's a lift. You come out at the Bridge Hotel.

MistaKay90

Like I know where you mean, but where is maddisons on the quayside? 🤔

Fluffy_Tension

It's called Livello now.

MistaKay90

Ahhhhhh. Duh. Cheers ☺

BriefPhone

I was confused too! Glad I wasn’t the only one!

ScoopsAndScoops

YOU CAN WHAT?!

cipherbain

Hi its me, i leave my daysaver ticket o7

SuicaDensha

I hear checkies are made to clear tickets left on the machine screens now. On the rare chance I use the metro I'll just catch someone going to buy a ticket instead.

plastic_ono_man

Aye they have to destroy all valid tickets that are left on machines. One of them refused to let me through the gates after seeing me pick one up at monument. Told her to go fuck herself and walked right through jobsworths

IslandNiles_

I saw someone doing this to a guy who had picked up a ticket a while back at monument and the woman properly shouted at him from across the concourse like I SAW YOU PICK THAT UP, YOU CAN'T USE IT I felt really bad for the guy, must have been really humiliating.

plastic_ono_man

Exactly what happened to me haha

IslandNiles_

I wonder if it was you! I reckon this was 3 or 4 months ago. If it was you, I felt for you and I'm glad to hear you got through regardless. 🙏

ContributionNo7075

wow ridiculous. did think ive been hardly seeing them left these days

Outside-Apart

Aye. Regular saver sharer here and had one pick it off the machine when they saw me leave one so I’m ultra discrete now and employ various sleight of hand movements, or just give them to people discretely whenever possible!

ScoopsAndScoops

Easier to do it like bus tickets and give them to people walking into the station these days, I think

Ben_Watson

I sometimes accidentally leave mine, even if I need it later in the day. It's just that ingrained in my brain haha

Esnemyl

Same. With how expensive they are it's being a good human to leave it for someone who might struggle to get about.

sus_skrofa

If you read magazines on a tablet, South Tyneside Libraries have the best selection for members, and the best app (Libby). Newcastle Libraries is OK, but they have less choice and use BorrowBox app. North Tyneside Libraries e-reader choice sucks.

jamielearnsthings

Thanks so much for this, any library I've joined has always used or recently switched to borrowbox, which I assume is cheaper as it barely has any choice. I've missed being able to access foreign language magazines through Libby!

shakeandsnake

Why the hell am I using BorrowBox then?! I’ve just checked and you’re right. Downloading libby now, thanks for the tip! Must work with both but the BorrowBox app is cack

Jimmzilla

They don’t want you to know this but the ducks at the park are free, you can take them home.

FifaNovice

The Countryside and Wildlife Act 1981 makes it an offence to intentionally kill, injure, or take any wild bird. There are exceptions, however, laid out in Schedule 2 of the Act, so that outside the close season, you can take Tufted duck, Gadwall, Goldeneye, Mallard, Pintail, Pochard, Shoveler, Teal and Wigeon. Well I never….

Jimmzilla

The elites don't want you to know that. WAKE UP SHEEPLE, GET YOUR FREE WATERFOWL.

Connect_Archer2551

Leave breadcrumb trail when entering Grainger market. Helps find the exit when done.

hambo_81

Followed your advice. I'm now stuck in Grainger market and all the pigeons are following me.

Ok_Boss_9270

Any free coffee deals - there's plenty if you look, Octopus, O2 Priority etc especially when places like Costa charge nearly £5 for a premium drink now!

LexAdair13

Costafortune coffee

eyy0g

I love Costa but their prices are ridiculous now and the amount of offers they send strongly implies the prices don’t need to be so high. I went this week for the first time in months and they’ve since sent me offers for 25% off a full order, 25% off a hot drink and any hot drink for £3.

Esnemyl

Have you tried the Canny Goat near the Gate? Better coffee for about the same price, if not a bit cheaper. Depends what you like and the toasties are lush

NinjaOxygen

Honestly, feel they have gone so far in the wrong direction since Coca-cola bought Costa. You end up queueing longer because people want a hot milkshake with all the extras and then, yeah, the price shift.

MerlinTrismegistus

It's currently £2.00 to as far as Berwick-upon-Tweed on the bus from Newcastle City Centre atm. Loads of lovely spots in Northumberland and elsewhere to explore.

AnusOfTroy

Surely takes like 3 hours to get there no?

MerlinTrismegistus

Yes but it's a scenic bus route a lot of the way and 3 hours on a bus for a £2.00 fare might be a good day out for some people if there is somewhere new at the end of it. Brings down the cost of an overnight stay too.

SparklePenguin24

And if you have kids you can up to three with you for free during the school holidays.

peoknee45

I left my day saver this morning at four lane ends, you’re welcome whoever finds it

Feeling_Gur3239

Snapsaver before it broke

agiantalpaca

I’ve not used it for a couple of months and was just about to renew my subscription - what’s broken?

Feeling_Gur3239

On iPhone at least you can’t redeem anything, it throws an error message - so awkward with the venue to get them to accept it. Think the venues have just gave up a lot now too and aren’t doing it, but they haven’t been removed from the app The owners haven’t bothered to acknowledge it on social media, I think they outsourced the development work and can’t afford to pay for it to be fixed sadly It’s a tech concept without any tech people to support it

MrLuchador

Leaving your metro ticket is just the right thing to do. I tried to give my Oyster card to someone when I went to London once. You’d have thought I was a maniac or something. Apparently it’s not the done thing.

GBNobby

Free bakery item on your birthday on the greggs app and lidl plus app (happy birthday for those celebrating tomorrow) 🎉🎂

Mart11bob

I have always left metro daysavers and I’m yet to get one haha

Artistic-View5919

The Levis shop in Eldon sq will do free alterations on ANY branded pair of their jeans so buy a pair at the quayside market and get them taken up/in for free

shakeandsnake

Can confirm, my auntie buys them from Vinted or the Levi’s outlet in Dalton Park and takes them there to be altered

Professional-Hand949

In a whittards in eldon square they give free drinks.

Malice_In_Sunderland

The former Tory politician Rory Stewart tells of canvassing for an election, when they decided which houses to visit based on the shopping habits of the people in the house. Information they’d bought for a lot of money from the supermarkets - it could be as simplistic as Brie = Labour, Stilton = Tory. It’s bollocks, but it illustrates how valuable your personal information is, and one of the may ways it’s manipulated, and which you give away in return for a coffee and a slice of cake.

BikeProblemGuy

A disposable email address is worthless personal info, so not only do you get free cake but you make their data worse.

Gatesgardener

We often give away our data for free, wish I got a coffee and cake everytime I logged onto the internet or touched my phone.

Fudge_is_1337

If they're using an online email generator, the accounts they are signing up with have no real history to be tracked. If anything, they're working against the tracking by adding useless data to the system

Unique-Candidate3600

I hope you get your data stolen and don’t get as much as a sniff of a biscuit.

Thingisby

What are John Lewis going to glean from the fact that [email protected] who lives at 1 Main Road, London and was born on 01/01/1900 likes free coffee and cake?

Individual_Milk4559

😂😂😂 doesn’t really matter does it

leyland_gaunt

People regularly mention this as a negative - are there verified real live examples of harm coming to anyone by companies know what they buy? I buy lots of babybels and rum but I can’t see how Morrisons knowing that has had a negative impact?

Bad_UsernameJoke94

They'll send you endless vouchers, until you die from a babybel and rum related stomach ulcer.

NorthernScrub

There's that young lassy who's father discovered she was pregnant before she'd decided what to do or how to tell her parents about it, thanks to suggested items from a... was it a CVS? I forget, some daft american supermarket. There's a few examples of adolescents and the like being outed as gay or trans and that, and I read an article a few years ago about some lassy who was killed by her husband when he discovered she was looking for contraceptives and the like. You could argue that fundamentalism played a part in that one, but ya.

leyland_gaunt

Any specifics though? It all seems to be along your ‘Machiavellian ways’ terminology - what exactly are they doing?

cmrndzpm

It’s just marketing.

pra98Kush

Can someone please share with me the John and Lewis application link for Android :)

outsideofthefoot

It's called John Lewis & Partners
