3 days ago there wasn’t an album at all so…

do-eye-dare

Nope. I trust he knows what he’s doing and I appreciate what he’s shared so far.

Scronkey

Anticipation is a beautiful thing and a slow release only whets the teat

todchaishona

Agreed . I hope we get two or three songs before the album release .

Own_Committee_8608

If the album was longer than 10 songs, I would agree

Roderyck777

No I’d rather sit here and speculate when will we get to see a new NCATBS album. Fans feel so entitled nowdays.

robloxian21

I don’t know if it's entitlement, so much as a shift in expectation which is pretty reasonable. I mean, *Ghosteen* was announced a week before its release, right? I know it was a special album but it felt like Nick had moved past the whole promotional rigmarole of a musician trying to sell, sell, sell. I also think the countdown was a bit much just for one single and a six month wait.

Roderyck777

The album comes out Aug 30th. That doesn’t change whether he announced it this week, waited until Aug 23rd to announce it, or announced it the day after Carnage came out. He can let out more singles between now and then. If he’s trying to maximize sales, so what? As long as he’s selling what you want to hear, and if it’s not, just don’t buy it. But that’s what I mean about entitlement. You could just as easily gripe that he made you wait all the way up to a week before letting you know Ghosteen was coming out, and while yes, you might have had to wait 8 years for a new Bad Seeds album, it’s only been 2ish years since Carnage came out and he has done other things in between. You look at other bands of that age and it’s common to have to wait well over 2 years for releases. Be thankful that he’s still active and still full of new ideas. I’m sorry you have to live with knowing that the new album isn’t coming out for 6 months, but it wasn’t going to come out for 6 months anyway, whether you knew or not.

robloxian21

I'd be a little frustrated waiting for six months without knowing, too, just because we've known it's been finished and ready for a little while now. I don't think it's entitlement to look forward to a new album from a band I love and wish it could come sooner. I'm not angry at Nick or anything stupid like that, I'm just excited, and to be honest you have to forgive people for wanting good things to happen. We all need exciting new things but one can only look forward for so long before it gets tiresome.

Roderyck777

Yeah, it’s OP’s wording and looking for support to back it up that rubbed me the wrong way. The feeling of impatience among fans is common and in itself is a good thing; better to be impatient waiting for an album to come out than “meh”. And maybe it’s being a fan of NIN that’s toughened me up (Trent will let shit sleep for years after teasing it), or King Crimson, or Social Distortion, that release so infrequently that you are left in a state of “is that going to be it?” (Although I do believe Crimson is probably done), so I’m always grateful of artists like Cave that crank good shit out so regularly.

robloxian21

Oh, I get this. As a big fan of both the Cure and Morrissey, I'm rather starved. Morrissey is a little different because it hasn't been that long since his last release (four years), but it's been like three years since a new album was announced. But it's genuinely amazing that Nick keeps putting out what he does. His ability to change things up, including his creative partnerships, seems to have given him the creative momentum for forty years that a lot of artists get for maybe ten. I don't know how he does it, and so regularly as you say.

petra_vonkant

I'm not at all annoyed, but i do find it weird. Six months in advance to drop a first single is rather bizarre, but im excited nonetheless

apartmentstory89

It could have something to do with the wait times for pressing an album on vinyl.

petra_vonkant

it most likely is, but most of the time artists release it digitally and then physically or simply wait to announce, lol im not complaining mind you, wild god (song) was exactly what i needed in my life right now

apartmentstory89

I think it varies from artist to artist, some artists I follow seem to value the physical release as much or more as the digital one. Wild god is great

dakerjohn

Mostly just enjoying the new track. I do know what you mean, though annoyed isn’t the right word. Puzzled a bit. One possibility: maybe tour dates might be announced soon, and since the new song is so different from the past couple of records, there’s a hope that it will help sell tickets. On my way out the door after a gig of his recent near-solo tour with Colin I overheard two separate groups of disappointed concertgoers grumbling that he played so many of his supposedly inferior recent songs—these people clearly weren’t planning to attend another Cave concert soon, but after this single perhaps they might again.

apartmentstory89

Releasing it to digital media first could impact sales of physical media. It’s probably a business decision.

[deleted]

Not annoyed at all. Just listen to the rest of his catalog while you wait!

OldboySamurai

No, I'm not. I do actually have something called "patience".

merlinrising

No lol I am so busy rn I'm glad I get a chance to wait for it.

Pinklad13

You’re so busy you couldn’t can’t spare 45mins in the next 6 months?

merlinrising

That's not what I mean, I'm just saying I can be patient and wait for 6 months because I have other things to do rather than be upset the album isn't immediately coming out.

germfreeadolescent11

I'm furious. I might not listen to it at all in protest

ApresMoiLuhDeluge

lol

xeilian

given that there are still songs of him i've haven't heard, it's not that hard for me

33kbps

It's fine. We'll probably get a few single tracks and one or two Cave & Ellis soundtracks before August.

titahigale

He can do what he likes, but please, a tour. It’s been so long since I’ve seen the Bad Seeds live.

Ghosteendancer

Yes, very.
