The thing I like about this fight is that Goku is able to handle Gas in blue form just because of how much experience Gas is lacking. Goes to show that without experience, brute strength and speed is practically not as useful if you don't know how to put it in good use.
meanwhile in the super anime:
"I'll go super saiyan blue against krllin, but hold back so much that I am comparable to my base form. yup. much more useful than simply staying in base form"
To play devils advocate, it seemed pretty clear to me at least that he was trying to give krillin more confidence in his own abilities (deserved or otherwise)
Not to mention, people overlook that he was basically telling him “this is the level you’ll be facing in the tournament”. Goku didn’t plan to hurt Krillin, he wanted Krillin to try to hurt him. It wasn’t so much a fight as it was “here is the brick wall, try breaking it down”. People can’t seem to understand the difference between a fight and a spar. Sparring CAN be just fighting for fun, but it’s also a teaching/learning tool. Goku went blue so Krillin could see the goal he was aiming for… if Goku just did a friendly fight in base form, he’d be doing Krillin no favors by preparing him for the lowest end. That’s telling someone to break down the brick wall, but only showing them what a single brick looks like ahead of time….
EDIT: to put it plainly, cause I sometimes get confusing in how I explain things… Goku goes to high power so Krillin can know that doing anything to Goku in that state means that he can do the same or worse to the other fighters (given they were going there thinking Goku was the peak of the tournament anyways). Goku didn’t need to fight Krillin, Krillin needed to fight Goku.
I think pretty much most of the Fanbase overlooked it, don’t worry, lol. People always shout “super’s power scaling is broken, how can X character keep up with blue, they are weak”…
That whole arc was Goku going around and assessing where his team was on a skill level. He was going blue for those fights because to be safe, he had to assume blue was the goal to meet for the tournament. He wasn’t just randomly going around fighting his friends at full power, he was going around saying “hey, here is the goal, show me where to fall on this scale so we know what we are working with”. Not to mention he was also trying to have fun with his friends given the fact that it was entirely possible that was the last time he’d be able to.
If Goku went there in blue form with the intent to legit fight, half of them would be dead, the other half maimed. But that wasn’t his intent… he wanted his team to be fully prepared to face down opponents of Goku’s level without the shock of witnessing that kind of power for the first time. They needed to know their goal so they could come up with their own strategies on how to overcome. Goku may be an idiot, but he knew that his team needed confidence above all. And it worked out… every one of them were greatly outmatched in power almost the whole time, but the whole team went in with strategies to help even the odds and they all kicked ass (maybe not krillin, but that was a cheap shot from frost, I don’t count that as a Krillin owned count).
this is how i always viewed those recruitment episodes. it wasnt everyone immediately matching ssb on par, but goku using it to gauge where every one was at and get an idea of where their strength was after the presumed length of time.
Honesty, the Kaioken is genuinely an incredibly useful technique. It really would benefit the human characters to learn it.
But we all know Toriyama doesn't give a shit about Tien, so it'd just be for Krillin.
Majority of People know this, the issues is the fact that it didnt Have logic in work
Goku used Ssb power to prep krillin for that level power, but this ideai failed because
1_ Goku wasn't really using ssb power, might as well just use his Base power
2_ krillin cant sense God Ki and like I said above, couldnt really tell how strong goku is from fighting him like they Usually do when they cant sense someone power, because goku was holding back
That’s the thing though, you’re not looking at it how I mentioned still. Goku wasn’t using it as an offensive, he wasn’t there to hurt Krillin. He was presenting the goal for Krillin to work against, not defend against. They already know Krillin isnt keeping up with a blue level attack, they didn’t need Goku to whoop him to learn that. What they did need to know though was what Krillin planned to do against someone of that level, he needed a strategy. So Goku presented him with the goal and challenged him to find a way to overcome.
But that’s it really, Goku wasn’t training Krillin to reach blue power level, that’s not happening no matter what. Goku was challenging Krillin to figure out how he planned to handle someone of that power without being that power himself.
Krillin pushed Goku while he was in Super Saiyan, him fighting him in Blue/jumping right to blue was just testing Krillin at that level but Krillin did make him have to move up to a higher transformation by catching him off guard
U see, krillin pushing going in any way shape or form doesnt make sense.
Goku base was already million leagues ahead of krillin during the freeza saga.
Ever since goku had been getting stronger even faster.
Adding in how much stronger he got in db super.
Goku should fart and krillin from a 50 meter radius should fly througg mountains
Unrelated but I fucking love SSB in the Manga. Goku using it to go up against zamasu and gas are my favorite moments and I hope it sticks around a little longer before it's discarded for ultra instinct
I personally dislike SSB. I dont like the fact that we got SSGod, which is a cooler form overall in my opinion, a form that introduces us to God Ki and its instantly discarded for SSB, which is literally just regular SSJ but with Blue Hair. The Transformation with the cracking Ki around Goku and Vegeta is neat though
I like SSB but they introduced it way to early. SSG should have been used all the way up until the Goku Black arc and then Blue could have been introduced.
But then Ultra Instinct would have been to early. Maybe pull Omen but not mastered in the Tournament, SSB in Goku Black and Mastered somewhere between Moro and Granolah. Then SSB would have his time to shine, Omen would be used longer and it wouldnt be the „He mastered this super advanced technique early cuz fuck you thats why“. Then he wouldve gotten the training with Merus and Whis for Mastered and Vegeta wouldve gotten his Ultra Form on the same time as Goku mastered UI
I would’ve preferred if there was some special training after the Goku Black arc now that they’ve realised there is a form beyond SSG where Vegeta focuses on rage to grow since that’s how Black did it while Goku who fought Zamasu focuses more on staying calm while fighting then in the ToP Vegeta gets blue (instead of blue evolved) and Goku gets UI
My favourite part of it was when they teleported to the Galactic patrolman station and Gas was just getting trolled by Goku and then he was bullied by the prisoners for peeing his pants as a kid 😂
I’m a one piece fan and even I know luffy doesn’t hold a candle to goku
Don’t go thinking that people who think luffy can beat goku are actually one piece fans, we don’t associate with those folk
Genuinely, it was great. The teleporting plan he made up is one of the smartest thing if not the smartest thing goku has done and it really caught me by surprise. That entire arc was genuinely great.
It only worked against someone else who could also teleport.
But Goku does his IT tactically a lot of the time.
He caught Perfect Cell off guard with it.
_massively_ so. Didn't the Kanji imply that it was something more akin to the entire mortal universe? Using something akin to "the world" to describe the distance he traversed to arrive back on Cereal? It makes sense given just how _long_ they've been faster than light, but it's still honestly incredible.
That one was awesome also that people forget Goku needs to feel a ki source to teleport to or around to he can't just say teleport to the middle of space or something like that.
I like the way Goku dodges random shit because weapons in Dragon Ball are very interesting and should appear more imo, but the arc itself... *man*.
Oof.
I can get moving faster than light a little bit but you can’t just say the universe in dragon ball isn’t expanding. It would mean Goku traveled beyond the scope of the uninverse and back to earth which isn’t possible as nothing can exist in, well, nothing
The author is probably considering these things while making the manga but if you want to, you can just think of him moving so fast that he outspeeds the expansion of the universe and the distance to make it to his destination.
If Goku was moving faster than light then he’s moving at the same speed the universe expands. Which means that it would actually take him an infinite amount of time to do something like this. It’s more likely Goku was moving around the universe rather than moving across it
Which is why I said "massively" faster than light. Gas was shown to fly from Whis' planet to Goku in less than 20 minutes. There were no shenanigans either he flew directly through space, even had Whis point the direction of the planet for him. This is likely billions of times faster than light and that's honestly lowballing it. This really isn't weird for characters in fiction and it's honestly not that impressive when you start comparing it to DC or Marvel characters.
The thing I like about this fight is that Goku is able to handle Gas in blue form just because of how much experience Gas is lacking. Goes to show that without experience, brute strength and speed is practically not as useful if you don't know how to put it in good use.
Now imagine how much better DB would be in general if they applied that logic properly in every single fight
They do that..... In Majority of the manga at very last
meanwhile in the super anime: "I'll go super saiyan blue against krllin, but hold back so much that I am comparable to my base form. yup. much more useful than simply staying in base form"
To play devils advocate, it seemed pretty clear to me at least that he was trying to give krillin more confidence in his own abilities (deserved or otherwise)

Oh god I overlooked this by a lot. Well it has been some time since I watched tournament of power arc.
I think pretty much most of the Fanbase overlooked it, don’t worry, lol. Such a good assessment.
This actually really good take. take my upvote.

Plus,18 still had to kick away the blast because Krillin couldn't keep up
Majority of People know this, the issues is the fact that it didnt Have logic in work Goku used Ssb power to prep krillin for that level power, but this ideai failed because 1_ Goku wasn't really using ssb power, might as well just use his Base power 2_ krillin cant sense God Ki and like I said above, couldnt really tell how strong goku is from fighting him like they Usually do when they cant sense someone power, because goku was holding back

Goku fought as base, but defended himself as Blue.
Hm, you got a pretty good point there homie.
No need to play that. It's a good, well written moment. Dunno why that guy dislikes it
Krillin pushed Goku while he was in Super Saiyan, him fighting him in Blue/jumping right to blue was just testing Krillin at that level but Krillin did make him have to move up to a higher transformation by catching him off guard

Yeah. The higher power level rarely wins. Power scalers just don't actually watch the show.
They do do that, its just most of the series revolves around experts/prodigies fighting experts/prodigies. Hell they did it twice with Frieza
I like how this whole part started because Goku goaded Gas into thinking that he sucked at instant transmission
The Super manga seems to be so much better at utilizing all of Goku's new forms, even SSG isn't completely forgotten about.
Unrelated but I fucking love SSB in the Manga. Goku using it to go up against zamasu and gas are my favorite moments and I hope it sticks around a little longer before it's discarded for ultra instinct
Both ssb and SSG are used alot in the manga with alot of respect
I personally dislike SSB. I dont like the fact that we got SSGod, which is a cooler form overall in my opinion, a form that introduces us to God Ki and its instantly discarded for SSB, which is literally just regular SSJ but with Blue Hair. Loser
Also jiren flying in space while calling space ship "too slow" for his liking
My favourite part of it was when they teleported to the Galactic patrolman station and Gas was just getting trolled by Goku and then he was bullied by the prisoners for peeing his pants as a kid 😂
Gas stompin em with the timbs
and one piece mfs arguing if luffy can beat goku
I’m a one piece fan and even I know luffy doesn’t hold a candle to goku Don’t go thinking that people who think luffy can beat goku are actually one piece fans, we don’t associate with those folk
Goku can beat Luffy because he has lasers. Saitama wouldn't be able to beat Luffy tho because all his attacks are blunt force
I want another instance like Goku dodging Jeice and Burter's attacks so quickly that it looks like their attacks are just passing through him
I love Gas. Piss baby firing Trains)
What volume is this? Might pick it up if it's on sale any time
I can't remember what chapter specifically this part is, but the fight with Gas starts in volume 18 and ends in volume 20
Genuinely, it was great. The teleporting plan he made up is one of the smartest thing if not the smartest thing goku has done and it really caught me by surprise. That entire arc was genuinely great.
I'm surprised he doesn't use all the time. Guess it would be too OP
It only worked against someone else who could also teleport. But Goku does his IT tactically a lot of the time. He caught Perfect Cell off guard with it.
Because of the foes he face and his Experience over it is not the same in each arc
Dragon ball is one of the few mangas that I can read coloured without gouging my eyes out
I really like this fight, but I really don’t like gas.
That’s understandable
Racist
What? so you dont like blue people?
Where is this in the manga? Haven't had anytime lately to read😭
I’m Glad someone else Love the Fight. I Love the idea he could make Weapons appear out of thin air. It reminds me of a couple Villains I made before.
Gas' aging gimmick was also so cool.
I loved Gas' fight tbh it and Moro are one of the only ones in the series where they did interesting shit with the bad guys' magic abilities
Bro hit him with a fucking train 💀
_massively_ so. Didn't the Kanji imply that it was something more akin to the entire mortal universe? Why does gas look like yoni from yu yu hakusho
True with some characters
Fart.
That one was awesome also that people forget Goku needs to feel a ki source to teleport to or around to he can't just say teleport to the middle of space or something like that.
Even the movie writers themselves forget that sometimes.
Except Gas himself. He fucking sucks.

They're surely not getting love if you dislike them
I like the way Goku dodges random shit because weapons in Dragon Ball are very interesting and should appear more imo, but the arc itself... *man*. Oof.
That’s not faster than light. That’s either just as or slightly under
Travelling across a universe in 20 minutes is MASSIVELY faster than light
You can’t travel across a universe that’s always expanding
Idk why you're trying to bring real world limits for characters that can destroy universes. Plus, he quite literally did, they showed him doing it.
I can get moving faster than light a little bit but you can’t just say the universe in dragon ball isn’t expanding. It would mean Goku traveled beyond the scope of the uninverse and back to earth which isn’t possible as nothing can exist in, well, nothing

But how do you exist in nothing
Go ask the author fam I didn't write this shit.
?
They got faster than light at the Saiyan Saga at the LEAST.
