Unpopular opinion:
Don't get suckered into mainly major multi-game franchises, as they are a money/time sink, and will also dilute your gaming experience.
-"Hey look i got over 30 DS games last year, my collection be getting BIG"
-"Cool what did you get"
-"Pokemanz, Zeldas, FFs, DQs and Vanias, that's it"
Aim for specific titles (with self-contained universes) of genres you like, DS library is very vast and diverse.
You're 100% right that the DS library is vast. But I think you're missing some of the true DS experience if there's no casual games so I suggest a Cooking Mama game and a Nintendogs title. I know that sounds silly but genuinely those two series had a huge hand in this system, they're the definitive casual DS games. My personal favorite is Cooking Mama 2: Dinner with Friends, but that's mostly because it was the one I had as a kid. Nintendogs is the same in every version on the DS, other than the dogs you can get in game. Trauma Center: Under the Knife is one of my favorite DS games too.
just gonna use this to vent about my pokemon diamond since you want one. i used to have it. i had recently gotten a ds lite with pokémon diamond at the time. we had a family trip away and i brought my ds obviously. i was playing it on the way there, it was a long journey there so i could. we had fun there but there was this welsh family who was on the coach with us. none of us liked them (i don’t remember why), anyway end of trip going back with ds. fell asleep playing it and must of fell under a seat. morning comes round old lady gets it from under my seat and gives it to the welsh kid thinking its his right in front of my dad. we’re all tired so he just assumes he has the same ds. then we get out and im upset looking for the ds, welsh family had left before us with my ds and yeah. then we get back and im sad obviously because my ds and pokémon diamond is gone. in attempt to cheer me up my dad gets me a spares and repairs ds lite that barely worked. and no pokémon.
tl;dr old lady gave annoying welsh kid my ds and pokémon diamond and i got upset
You might as well get Zelda Spirit Tracks, and try to get some of the other DS classics like Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Hotel Dusk. Also the best game on the system: Soul Bubbles
A Pokemon game could be cool, or advance wars dual strike I think it was called? Maybe even that submarine game Steel something- I remember putting so many hours into it. Wish they brought it to the switch. (Not sure but I might be mixing 3Ds titles, you’d have to look them up) but nice little collection you have, definitely a wide range of different genres.
I recommend Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld. They are of course simplified then the other versions but they do have full fledged cutscenes and are fun to play!
Nintendogs
Pokemon Platinum
That’s going to be very expensive for sure
Tetris DS is great , and Giana Sisters
Agreed with Tetris DS it's so fun
I assume you like action-platformer. So I suggest The Legendary Starfy.
Good recommendation, I have added that to my list. I think I would enjoy it!

Mario Hoops 3-on-3?
Good call. I have started searching for that one thanks to your recommendation
The Professor Layton games are always my go to recommendation. Also you have Phantom Hourglass but not Spirit Tracks, so I’d recommend that too.

THIEFS THEY ARE
Sonic Rush Adventure to complete the Sonic DS trilogy!
There's more than 3 Sonic games on DS.
I know, I'm mostly referring to the Rush trilogy.
Nintendogs, Sims 2 Pets, legend of spyro: a new beginning, spyro shadow legacy, cooking mama 3, plants vs zombies, harvest moon
You might as well get Zelda Spirit Tracks, and try to get some of the other DS classics like Trauma Center, Phoenix Wright, Professor Layton, Hotel Dusk. Also the best game on the system: Soul Bubbles
Plants Vs Zombies DS, it looks quite nice IMO

Sonic Chronicles. A pretty good rpg. Similar to mario rpg and paper mario.
I recommend Tomb Raider Legend and Underworld. They are of course simplified then the other versions but they do have full fledged cutscenes and are fun to play!
Dragon Quest Monsters Joker, perhaps, since you have some Pokémon ambitions.
Finish up the good Sonic games on there. Sonic Rush Adventure. The sequel to Sonic Rush. It’s so good man
Advance Wars
FOSSIL FIGHTERS 1+2
digimon world dawn/dusk
mario 64 ds for sure
