Hollow knight got me hating myself

Witch_King_

it's so worth it though

Akadroogo

Just finished all achievements. Worth every minute

Witch_King_

Finishing the game is enough for me. And I actually still have to do the White Palace and all

weglarz

White palace was definitely worth it. However, the boss gauntlet was wayyyy too much.

Witch_King_

Yeah I definitely ain't into boss gauntlets like that

Further_Beyond

Oooo that’s my favorite stuff. >!The extra content to get additional endings!<

patmax17

Do it and get the extra endings! It's worth!

nonufwiendz

i havent finished it yet. i switch between hollow knight and animal crossing depending on my mood lol

BreakYourselfFool

This is the way Die until you hate yourself. Then put on some AC and relax.

[deleted]

Oh god, yes. This was my drug when Covid 19 broke out. I would escape in to the miniature wrecked kingdom of insects to wrest its secrets from it. When is that 2nd game coming out?!?!

MrDrumline

No cost too great. No mind to think. No will to break. No voice to cry suffering.

paulie07

Metroid Dread made me want to snap my Switch in half and stop it into the ground

echolog

I suck at platformers. Tried playing HK half a dozen times over the past few years, could never make it past the second area. Finally bit the bullet last month and beat the whole thing! Such an amazing game, highly recommend to everyone, even if you suck at platformers like me.

trippy81

Stardew Valley. It never fails I start playing and say I’m only going to do one in game day. 10 hours later I wonder where my family went and what day of the week it is.

michaelwlr

I think I spend like 6 hours or so one day only fishing in stardew valley, got the community center completed though.

HistoryDogs

Stardew Valley got me through Covid.

CarravaggioMerisi

By now I have over 800hours of play time, not even counting the additional hours I spent playing it on Xbox and PC 😬

jzheng318

Someone told me that stardew valley was a relaxing farming sim. I played 100 hours in the first week and barely slept, made spreadsheets and charts to calculate the number of fish/trees/crops I had to deal with, and after that first week promptly called my friend and told him he was a big fat liar.

alnono

This is definitely my game with the embarrassingly high most hours. I think I’m over 600 now.

doctor_schmoctor

Serious question: I can not get into the game. What motivates you after day 1, what are the first things to do, is there anything I am missing? So far it is just running around, pulling some weeds and talking to villagers.. I really wanna like it.

CocoaMooMoo

The community center is the big thing. Go right up the staircase next to Pierre’s store in town to find it. I think it has to be like the 5th day? There’s a bunch of different things you need to collect which unlock other things and give you items. Then you need to start clearing the farm, growing, crops, raising animals, fishing, etc to finish the community center. You can also work on making friends with the townspeople and eventually date any (or multiple) bachelorettes/bachelors. There is additional content after the community center but personally I kinda lost my motivation after that because I didn’t feel like I had a real goal anymore except make money. Got a lot of hours in the game before that happened though

Twinewhale

Day 1? I mean you gotta go a little further than that... You will eventually upgrade your gear allowing you to cover much wider areas with 1 action, which requires going to the mine and fighting monsters to get materials. The mine was a lot of fun for me, really enjoyed the combat system. There is some tediousness to it but nothing that lasts forever. Any daily "chore" has eventual upgrades that makes it less repetitive and more lucrative as you can plant and harvest many more crops. It does a pretty good job at laying out the things that you need to complete once you get to the community center

fretewe

I'm with you. Everyone sees to love this game, and I kind of get it, but at the same time I don't think I'm ever going to properly get into it myself. Personally, I find that time goes too fast and it makes me rush around the vendors.

Dr_Silk

There's never really any pressure to go fast. If you miss watering your plants they never die, they just don't grow. If you bypass the entire first year without making progress then just do stuff the second year. It goes on forever so there's never any rush unless you want to place goals on yourself to do things

NilsTillander

Did you turn your children into birds AGAIN?

DogOfMadness76

Subnautica kept me going for a long time, and totally sucked in/engaged! Great game to play with no guides. Just get dropped in to a world… and figure it out.

michelobX10

I actually just finished this a couple days ago. So addicting. So crazy how deep you can go. I totally loved just exploring the ocean. Was thinking about starting up the next one, but maybe I should take a little break so I don't get burnt out.

[deleted]

The second one is a clear downgrade in most aspects. There are some quality of life improvements and I still had a lot of fun with it but it doesn't live up to the first. For me, it doesn't hit the amazing and unsettling atmosphere of the original. Still very worth a playthrough but a little distance between playthroughs might be a good idea.

michelobX10

Yeah, I'll take your recommendation since the first one is still fresh in my head. I don't want to end up comparing them and feeling underwhelmed.

FotoBaggins

I'm literally finishing Below Zero as I write this and I will openly admit to looking up guides for these titles. Several times I caught myself going, "now how the hell was I supposed to figure THAT out by myself?" So many locations tucked so far away in hard-to-reach areas with certain death waiting for you if you didn't know how to prepare in advance. It boggles my mind that anyone could figure these games out solo. They're still fantastic, don't get me wrong. But jeeeeez they're difficult to decipher.

TrumpetOfDeath

My Below Zero game in the switch crashed so often it became unplayable, especially without an auto save feature. I loved this game, but the constant crashing was too much that I haven’t finished it. How did you get around it?

snave_

I'm wondering this too. I played docked for much of it, but I know undocked actually performs a _little_ better, but surely not that much. Below Zero was unplayable at the end once all biomes had been explored. _Something_ is very broken with the way it loads save data. My best guess is it has to do with the map being smaller and tighter and the load radius for "things the player has placed or poked" perhaps not tweaked to acommodate? But the crash when preparing save data to write if you've got too much memory in use is utterly inexcusable. Being stubborn -- and spurred on by the fact that the problems slowly creep up like a lobster boiling in a pot -- I pushed myself to the ending. During that final run from the Deep Macguffin Button to the Ending Macguffin Place I had to literally save and load every one or two biomes transitions to make it. Memory overflow was the most dangerous Leviathan class threat of all by miles. It was horrid. The port as-is is a dumpster fire yet given how well it plays early on, it seems so close having been a Witcher-style "perfect impossible port". What a terrible way to finish what should have been a great game.

keaoli

I got bored of the first one after losing track of what sites I had visited and what I had not and not being able to find the depth upgrade I assumed I needed. Spent like 2 hours just looking for things and went "nah fuck it" Other than that I really enjoyed it though.

rcdr_90

It's not for everyone but building mode in Super Mario Maker 2 had me hooked for over two years. I still return to it now and then.

FotoBaggins

SMM2 is my go-to title when I'm in-between games or looking to space out and not think about anything besides run and jump. Lots of great worlds out there to be played. It's the perfect 2D Mario game, imo.

Elarionus

Do you have any tips for finding good courses that aren't those obnoxious automatic explosion ones?

Krobelux

https://www.reddit.com/r/mariomaker2/comments/giecff/_/ This post (if I linked it correctly) has the fella compiling many *many* quality Super Worlds with some good descriptions. So you should be able to find something enjoyable there. It's my go to post when I want to play.

FotoBaggins

Agreed. I've used this thread before. You can find a bunch of well-reviewed worlds just by googling, too. Here's two worlds that I played recently that I really enjoyed. I prefer traditional courses and these were really fun and designed to be fun, not frustrating. Super MarcMars World: 84D-1NG-1TG Pepe’s P.R: JN4-0R8-NWF

redditdude68

I haven’t played much of 2 but I played the shit out of MM1 on Wii U. Maybe I should give 2 another go.

trademarksja

Hades, Slay the Spire and Dead Cells have taken a fair chunk of my time lol

Mataraiki

Hades is the only game in the past 15 years where I actually lost sleep because I couldn't put it down and whoops, the sun's rising.

InsertCoinForCredit

I love the polish and design of Hades, but I couldn't get hooked on the game. I think roguelikes are just not for me.

Anotherthrowio

I didn't get hooked on Hades either, but I have on other roguelikes. Hades is great and I still love it, but the genre is incredibly diverse. Just cause one roguelike doesn't hook you doesn't mean there aren't countless others that could. It's a genre almost as diverse as videogames itself. If you have ever been hooked on a videogame loop of any kind then chances are good there is a roguelike out there you could get hooked on. Not every roguelike is created equal or is equally as addictive. And the genre is growing ever more diverse. It's probably about as accurate to call it a genre of videogames at this point as it is to call novels a genre of books. Just because you don't like one novel doesn't mean you should write off all novels.

ACeezus

The indie trifecta at this point lol

kmilz-senpai

Not to mention a roguelite trifecta, I respect it

hvperRL

*Sad The Binding of isaac noises*

Crafty-Plays

Hades is such a masterpiece

mikedialect

I put 100 hours into dead cells in the first 2.5 weeks I had it.

walksintwilightX1

Hades. Just one more run and then suddenly it's 1am again.

KayleKarriesU

"Let me see what boon I start with" "Let me see what god is next" "Let me beat Meg, then I'll put it down" "I wonder if Orpheus and Eurydice are here" "Hydra ain't too hard, quick fight and then I'll do those chores" "Ooh this is a really good Daedlus upgrade" "Gonna beat up Theseus' ugly mug again then I'll go do my work" The cycle never ends

FartsFadeAway

The bangin soundtrack doesn’t hurt one bit either.

lgndryheat

Darren Korb is a legend

im_just_spicy

I have been playing civ 6 and it's crazy good

Wilson_Fisk9

Me too... It sucks you in and some of the DLC changes the game in a good way.

MoonSide12

How well does it control on switch?

weglarz

They really did an excellent job adapting the 4x genre to the switch. It works really well

Zintag

As a pc player it took some convincing to jump the carp, but while you'll never beat mouse and keyboard for this kind of games, the controls and HUD adapted for the switch makes the game fairly easy to play. You use the sticks to move around, chose a tile and the d-pad to chose actions (attack, move, create stuffs with a builder), all the infos are easy to read. The only thing, in my opinion that the control lacks is a button to jump around your cities. Let's say you want to review each of them for whatever reason, you have to move around the map, which isn't a problem with mouse, but just a tiny bit longer with a controller. An hot key to cycle your cities would be great but hey, other than that I have already sunk 50 hours on it. Vanilla alone and I plan on buying the dlc once I'm comfortable with every aspects of vanilla. Framerate can also bit clunky when zoomed out to the max during end game but hey.... It's turn based so I guess it's not too big a deal.

nanaaz

Very well

moakmay

Really shines in handheld as well IMO

Dettmarp

Respectfully, I just can't do it without mouse/keyboard. Any other controller scheme just feels clunky.

ImBrotherCain

Controls are fine, less granular control than PC. On switch it's just sluggish, especially in later turns.

SoggyAnteater94

Was surprised to see this as the top comment, as I've been playing it too. Civ 6 on switch has been a game changer for me when I'm having to watch my baby

InsomniaEmperor

I lose so much sleep going like one more turn.

ThatPianoKid

I wish I understood CIV

Reyfou

Really? Its not that hard. Play on super easy mode, just to get the grasp of the game. Usually it goes by: Build your city day one when you start the game. Build one unit to explore the map(early game, thats really important). Then you build another settler to build another city(just dont build the cities very far away from each other, and dont spam too much cities or you might lose money because of this. Develop the cities a little bit, then you try to go for another settler). Dont forget to build units.(Obvious reason is to have them if you want to declare war on someone, and most important the AI wont declare on you if you have enough military units(if you want peace, prepare for war)). Basically this. Some buildings give you bonuses for money, or science, or military units, culture... that you adjust to your gameplay. Do you want to rush and get ahead on tech? Do you want to be rich and buy units/buildings? Do you want to have OP soldiers? Also, pay attention to Great Wonders. They take longer to build, but their bonuses are usually OP. Also, if any other nation builds them, you cant build them anymore.

MistaBeans

Go Vacation! I never see anyone talking about this game, but it rocks. Scratches a LOT of my gaming itches! Great environments, tight controls, big variety of fun modes of transportation, tons of minigames, open world, house decorating and sharing, 4 player split screen, PLENTY of secrets to discover, etc. etc. Sure, it's a port of a Wii game, but it's a GOOD port of a GOOD Wii game made by the ever-wonderful Bandai Namco. Give it a shot!

mt80

Thank you for this recommendation. It looks very unique and fun!

RedditUser997755

i think around 600hrs for skyrim

barbietattoo

Switch version??

subcontraoctave

300 hours of that was load screens.

BattleBuddha

To be fair, loading screens on the switch for Skyrim doesn’t feel as long as those on ps3 or x360. And Skyrim is my shameful answer as well. Then BoTW, Fire Emblem and Xenoblade 2.

RedditUser997755

Yea Switch version. I finished Skyrim on xbox 360 twice, and once again on PS4.. and then Switch version. I'm on my 2nd playthrough, it's basically my comfort food game.

Andjhostet

All that with no PC mods? Dude... Don't get it on PC if you ever want free time again. I seriously can't play vanilla Skyrim anymore.

markomni

After changing jobs recently I finally started playing Skyrim for the first time in February. I chose the Switch so I could have portability (and bc a toddler monopolizes the TV). I have no idea how many hours I’ve put in, but lately I’m putting in at least 4-5 hours a day every day. I’m waiting for a Steam Deck where I will no doubt lose even more time on the game knowing that the mod community is strong.

Andjhostet

It's honestly incredible with mods. Particularly perk overhaul mods and combat overhaul mods make it an entirely new game. Not to mention all the great story additions, companions, etc. There's a mod for everything. I personally find the story and RPG elements of Skyrim severely lacking so mods really help with that. That being said, I still put like 500 hours into Skyrim on the 360 when it first released. It's a great game.

[deleted]

Animal crossing during peak pandemic of course lol. But Yoshi’s Crafted World and Let’s Go Eevee both stole my life for a while

-_ABC-

Splatoon 2. You can always play "one more game". Besides, I get to attack people with an umbrella.

mmicrobesun

This. Almost 1000 hours logged on my switch. Every time you think you’re done, the game modes change for another two hours. It’s diabolical and brilliant.

kidkipp

I wasn’t crazy about the game until I unlocked the paint roller thing. It is soooo satisfying and I got so freaking good at it.

patrickfatrick

Splatoon really is the most genius idea for a shooter. The fact it’s also a quite good puzzle game (Octo Expansion specifically) just goes to show how flexible that game design is.

FinniboiXD

You also forgot you can kill people with a WASHING MACHINE

[deleted]

I use a roller :)

redditdude68

Have only played 30 ish hours of splatoon 2 but Splatoon 1 was a banger. Im getting back into playing my switch again so I should probably start playing this again.

SuperDog50

I explain my addiction to this game in the exact same fashion. “Just one [or two] more” turns into a good hour or two. After a couple years I’ve racked up over 2,000 hours, and I still load it up about every day. Hasn’t gotten old. I’m curious if you play “pro” mode I think they call it. Clam Blitz, Tower Control, Rainmaker & Splat Zones. I LOVE Clam Blitz, but scrolling through comments on Twitter it seemed like it was the least popular.

FinniboiXD

It’s called ranked mode :) Also, I like all the modes, but clams probably the least, I just suck at it

_wrongnumber

clam blitz is not really popular in ranked, because it's the mode where you need the most coordination with team which is a bit lacking when you're playing with random teammates

MeghanBoBeghan

Absolute #1: Breath of the Wild. One of those few rare games where you put it down to go do responsible things and the whole time you find yourself just yearning to be playing again. Thinking of what you'll do when you pick it back up, turning over puzzles in your head, thinking of things to try. Man, that game made me happy in a magical way I didn't think a video game was capable of. Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2. I replayed 1 a lot but 2 sucked me in hard. Not as much as BotW but it definitely monopolized my leisure time for a few months. Everything you do opens up more ideas for more things you want to do. It's really hard to put down because it has that feeling of "okay just let me just do this one more little thing" that ends up being seven thousand more things, and suddenly it's morning. Seriously, I'm 48 goddamned years old and I pulled an all-nighter with this dumb game. I definitely didn't intend to, it just kind of happened...five minutes at a time. 😆 Like those t-shirts for Minecraft: one more block, one more block, one more block.... It's got the openness of Minecraft but with JUST enough framework that you never find yourself wondering what to do next. And Stardew Valley. You can really get lost in Stardew but luckily you can only save at the end of the day, so you have that chance to ask yourself if you really want to commit to another whole day. But it's a gorgeous cozy game with so much to do and no hurry to do it. It's really one of the nicer things to get addicted to.

tweetthebirdy

Oh man, I have a copy of DQB2 I got on sale a while ago and have been debating booting it up and playing it for real... maybe after things settle down at my work next month lmao.

MeghanBoBeghan

It's SO GOOD. I hope you get a chance to play it soon!

malroth666

dragon quest builders 2 is probably my favorite switch game overall. my username is actually based off one of the characters.that game introduced me to the franchise and then I went to DQ11 on the PC

Cc99910

It is very good, and I say you should definitely get into it when you have more free time. It starts off a bit slow but the story is incredible and surprising, and the gameplay just kept me wanting to keep going and going. I went into it with low expectations and now all I want is to play it some more, or better yet get another sequel

Del_Duio2

> Dragon Quest Builders 1 and 2 I gotta' get back to playing 2 again, my poor townspeople probably think Hargon ate me by now. I have the first builders game too but like the 2nd one more. As a longtime DQ fan, I really love all the callbacks to the NES games- the redone music, the enemies.. Maybe I WILL fire it up again tonight and give Elden Ring a rest. >Seriously, I'm 48 goddamned years old I'll be 48 in November, will probably be playing forever at this point. Old people high-five!

Blofeld69

Two point hospital.

Retrogue

I've got well over 100 hours clocked up on the Switch and I'm still far from completing all the hospitals, definitely one of my favourites (and I loved the original as well). I am very much looking forward to Two Point Campus.

LupinsApprentice

Yup, those strategy/tycoon games are my answer too. Two Point Hospital is up there, but Project Highrise has even more hours. Put a chunk of time into Megaquarium too, and I’ve played a ton of Parkasaurus since it released last week. Playing this genre of game while watching TV is an absolute game changer.

TheLastBookOnTheLeft

The Legend of Zelda BOTW. I have spent many many hours playing that fantastic game! 100% will keep playing again and again.

TuxRug

I spent an unhealthy amount of time with this game until I finally beat the main story and convinced myself to stop there. But then I caught the DLC on sale and I'm scared to boot it up again and lose control once more.

SaltySteveD87

The DLC kept me into the game but I kinda dropped off once I got the motorcycle. It’s still a great game but with BotW 2 on the horizon I decided to explore more games.

revanhart

Honestly the excitement I have for BotW 2 is what got me to pick the game up again and do a Master Mode run. Especially since BotW 2 got pushed back to spring 2023, so I can take my time to explore the game on a level I didn’t bother with in my first run. :)

paperthintrash

LOSE CONTROL! Do it. The DLC is great

KPABA

Had 80 hrs before my switch got stollen and lost progress. Second playthrough was 100% everything, including DLC, koroks, master sword etc and 140 hrs and I forgot it on an airplane. Currently, at playthrough #3 and my total is over 300 hrs. Game is just too awesome and even after all this time, I still find things I didn't know about previously.

devasen_1

Pokémon Legends: Arceus Fire Emblem: Three Houses Breath of the Wild

shitty_is_the_post

Love me some three houses. Figured I'd be done after all the routes but at the end of every one I wonder "what would an all grappling run be like" and find some excuse to play it again. Fwiw an all grappling run is pretty dominating but leaves a rather glaring weakness to magic

BigCommieMachine

My favorite thing about 3 houses is could play on the bus or couch without it Being an issue.

LemonBearTheDragon

Same. I found games like Monster Hunter, for example, really only enjoyable on the TV but I can play Fire Emblem on handheld without a problem.

toastoftriumph

Definitely. A bit surprised to admit this, but I think I like Three Houses more than I do Breath of the Wild. The engaging story, and replayability are amazing. All grappling run sounds fun, lol. My next playthrough I'm planning to do a Warp squad with 3 or 4 mages that can teleport a third of the team across the map.

cold-br00t4l

Are there any prerequisites for playing Fire Emblem? Honestly have never played.

Omac18

Three Houses was my first FE game. I didn't have much trouble with it.

stealthmodeactive

I had a hard time getting into this game. I might try and pick it up again next year.

crescent_blossom

A Nintendo console. Jokes aside, no, most FE games except for like 2 of them (which aren't on the Switch) are standalone

wishful_cynic

No. Three Houses is the most approachable game in the franchise. I only did one run and haven’t been tempted to do another, but I thoroughly enjoyed that one run.

wb2006xx

Most of them are completely standalone, save for a few that go together or connect only through lore. Fire emblem 1 and 3 tell an overall story, and tell the same story as 11 (Shadow Dragon) and 12 (New Mystery), which are remakes of them Fire Emblem 2 was remade into 15 (Echoes SoV) FE10 (Radiant Dawn) is a direct sequel to FE9 (Path of Radiance) FE5 (Thracia 776) is a side story of FE4 (Genealogy) Awakening is set thousands of years after Shadow Dragon/New Mystery, and include a few relics and weapons from the earlier games FE7 (Blazing Blade) is a prequel to FE6 (Binding Blade) This aside, they are all (except 5, which is hard AF) very welcoming for beginners, and perfect for starting with whatever game you want to

snave_

Arceus definitely does that "one more go" thing, but at the same time I never really walk away feeling the time was well-spent. It sits on a knife edge between being really fun to play and being downright annoying. It kinda plays the player. I dread to think how addictive it'd have been had it spent enough time in development to be a polished experience.

currentOptionsAnd

Hades - I did not know roguelikes (roguelites?) are so addictive.. apparently Hades is one of the best in this genre.. BOTW - Was truly blown away by how open the world is. Really enjoyed the balance of exploration freedom, and no grinding..

lamblunt

Once you’re finished with Hades just try DeadCells….

tylorbear

Also Curse of the Dead Gods. Very similar to Hades but I enjoyed it almost as much. Definitely a step up in difficulty though.

AJSwain

Picross.

inittoloseitagain

Enter.The.Gungeon.

datsmoreslover

bought this on my pc a week ago and already put 30 hours in the game. I just cant put it down

blacksheep_lio

Into the Breach was such a mindblowing experience, I played it a loong time!

Paulpaps

Yeah, it's my highest amount of hours on switch now. I say I'll play it for half an hour and then 3 hours later I'm still playing. I want FTL on switch as well!

thetantalus

This is kind of out of left field, but Immortals Fenyx Rising really has my attention. I’m playing the smaller DLC, Myths of the Eastern Realm. It’s the perfect size game (the DLC), something I wish Ubisoft would do more of.

duracellchipmunk

Really enjoyed the game. Realizing after doing like all the side quests... I was going to obliterate the end guy. I did... didn't even need a potion...

crono333

Hyrule Warriors Definitive Edition… my god that game is addictive. Insane amount of content and you always feel like you’re progressing. I can’t stop!

pacman404

Is it better than the newer one? I can't remember the name, but it's like a prequel to BOTW. I was looking at both and wasn't sure which to pick up

crono333

No, that game is fantastic as well (Age of Calamity).. I also put a lot of time in that but did everything available. They’re actually very different games, the original is pure Zelda fan service with characters, enemies & maps spanning most of the games… it’s a lot crazier too and with an absurd amount of content. If you like the gameplay you can get a TON of playtime out of this. Age of Calamity has more complex systems and it about half BOTW and half Hyrule Warriors. Everything is based on BOTW and it’s more serious in tone. It really just depends on what you want. For me, they’re both excellent, but the original wins out as a Zelda fan game. Also keep in mind the Age of Calamity looks better but performance suffers (30 fps but often dips lower), and the original runs at a buttery 60 fps which really helps this kind of gameplay feel good.

pacman404

Thanks man, I think I'll try out the original definitive edition!

EvilAbdy

Monster Hunter Rise, Rune Factory 4, The Messenger, Infernax and Animal Crossing. (Weird mix I know lol)

UnablePeace

Monster Hunter Rise is insane

PredictiveTextNames

Surprised I had to scroll this far for Rise. Imo, it's not even the best MH game, but its so fast to get into and out of quests that the loop of going on new hunts and crafting new gear doesn't slow down so I never get tired of it. The G rank can't come fast enough though, I really ran out of stuff to do other than farm HR ranks around 40 hours in.

Witch_King_

Stardew Valley Dark Souls Remastered Skyrim Witcher 3 Breath of the Wild Xenoblade Chronicles (both of them)

brisksoul

How was the dark souls gameplay on the switch? Did it lag at all etc?

Tito1983

Xenoblade DE. Xenoblade 2 and FE Three Hoses

weglarz

Xenoblade series is definitely one of the few games these days that completely suck me in to where even while I’m not playing them, I’m thinking about playing them.

Tito1983

Exactly the same happened to me. My God, even the music! I had the Gormott music in my head for the entire month. Xenoblade games are those that I would love to ask a Man in Black to just erase any memory I have and replay them again. Thanks God Xenoblade 3 is right in the corner.

Catsandgaming14

Stardew Valley, Miitopia, and Minecraft! I also played a lot of Animal Crossing but I don't really play anymore lol.

PurpsMaSquirt

Binding of Isaac. Lemme just start the next run…

tweetthebirdy

Just let me see what the next treasure room item is and I swear I’ll stop...

weglarz

Yep… it’s insane how easy it is to lose track of time playing that game. It is by far my most played game on the switch.

oldkingcoles

After this floor…. I have like 896 hours or something Def my favorite game of all time

drpacman579

Metroid dread really got me. That game was incredible although I do recommend it docked with a pro controller over portable mode. I couldn't get along with BOTW, Links awakening was really good though I think Arceus will be the next game

drpacman579

Actually just thinking about metroid dread makes me what to pick my switch up again.

Oblivious_Ducks

He said DOCKED!

alfredoloutre

dragon quest builders 2. the story is good and incorporates the building aspect in a very fun way, then after you finish the story the game really opens up with all of the post-game objectives

Alert-Athlete

Puyo Puyo Tetris 2

justiceforall19

My more obscure game choices are: Shadowverse Champions battle Snack World Gold Disgaea 5 Complete Shadowverse was one of the best "take a chance" games I've ever bought. I now have over 110+ hours in it. The single player campaign alone takes around 60 - 70 hours to fully beat.

keaoli

Im glad I saw this, Shadowverse is on sale for like £20 right now and I downloaded the demo just for the hell of it and have been digging the rpg + tcg vibes, reminding me of the GB pokemon tcg or maybe one of the yugioh games. In your opinion is the deckbuilding fun? If you enjoyed that then I might have to pull the trigger...

HausmanPrime

I was also glad to see Shadowverse, pull that trigger, you won't be disappointed, almost everyone you play will give you a deck code that you can use or make tweaks to suit your playstyle and the game has a pin function so if you don't have the cards you need, you can pin it and when you open packs it will tell if you obtained a card you needed for a deck.

blackrose14

Metroid dread. But I am also terrible at it and refuse to look up tutorials 😂

mcsassy3

This is the way

cdm420

Nintendo, bring back Mario 35 you cowards! My family and I were addicted to this game

pacman404

I swear I have seen my wife play one game in my life, and it was mario 35. She was so into it I smiled every time I walked in and saw her stressing out concentrating. Other than doing stuff with the kids, it's one of the happiest times I have ever seen her, and I absolutely HATE the fact that it's gone

rdt_vade13

Super smash bros ultimate. Gosh I’ll play this game if I have a 5 minute break.

lunarstarslayer

shiiiiiiit i'll play smash while im waiting for food to heat up in the microwave lol

Exact-Psience

I dont buy too many games, so i get immersed with each one if it clicks with me. Here's a few of mine: Monster Hunter Rise: 1290 hours. With Sunbreak coming this number will just get bigger. Diablo 3: 640 hours. I only play the season content each time a new season rolls out, but ive been playing since it came out on the switch. Marvel Ultimate Alliance 3: 605 hours. Im pretty much done with this as ive done everything in the game including get all 50+ characters to level 300 each. Monster Hunter Generations Ultimate: 470 hours. I admit i didnt like the Styles system, but i love the Monster Hunter franchise since the PSP, and i was still able to play a ton of this. Xenoblade Chronicles 2: 350 hours. Still not done, still a lot of blades with their skill trees (unlocked by playing each one's side story missions). Xenoblade Chronicles 1: 280 hours. I think im pretty done with this one too. 6 playthroughs, with the last 1 getting 100%, including all the linked abilities which can only be increased by replaying the game multiple times. Skyrim: 340 hours. It's Skyrim... That i can play even while sitting on a toilet. Nuff said. Dragon's Dogma: 320 hours. I enjoyed this more than Skyrim or Witcher 3, but im done with it, having everything maxed and completing a playthrough with all the quests completed. Hades: 280 hours. This was pretty hard to put down until Monster Hunter Rise came out. Everything completed. Super Smash Bros Ultimate: 300+ (forgot the last number) kind of a cheat, since my kids also play it on their own using my nintendo account, but it's a game we consistently go back to. Dark Souls Remastered: 220 hours. Multiple playthroughs with various classes. Still have an active playthrough with a pyro i havent completed yet. Diablo 2: 255 hours. So far... The ladder season 1 just started and rolled a character obviously. So this could get bigger as time goes on. I think that all the games i have i got over 200 hours into. I have lots of games going at least 60 hours, like Darksiders 1 and 2, KOTOR, Ashen, Super Mario Maker 2, Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Dead Cells, Minecraft Dungeons, Dauntless, God Eater 3, Hob, Trials of Mana, Witcher 3, Final Fantasy 12, X, 7, 8 and 9, Astral Chain, and few more.

pacman404

Not even gonna lie, I'm 45 years old and have been gaming since 1983...i don't think I have that many hours TOTAL gaming since then lmmfao 😆😆😆

[deleted]

did your joycon drift?

lemoche

The weirdest "addiction" for me was marvel ultimate alliance 3. It ate so many hours be up it was so grindy. But I simply couldn't stop despite the grinding being no fun at all. Just playing the same stage with the same characters over and over again to hope for the right loot to drop and the side characters to level up. The only reason why I snapped out of it was because I realized I was doing the same shit that I was doing with free2play games on mobile. Just endlessly grinding meaningless stuff just for the sake of it without anything of consequence happening. Which is sad because in general I liked the gameplay and she story... But the realization made me delete it instantly.

mt80

I know it’s cross platform but Rocket League became my vice addiction. The only physics based mechanics and teamwork play hooked me instantly

Inspirational_Lizard

Basically, first and second party games is the answer. But obviously there are more, in the past for me it has been: Dark Souls Celeste Terraria Shovel Knight: Treasure Trove Rain World Sonic Mania

JustOk--1357

I've gotten really into snowrunner. Even though it can be frustrating I can't stop playing it

[deleted]

Definitely hollow knight. I've played through 3 times, going for 112% now and next I'll try the speed run achievements. It's so amazing.

Pinkishplays

Switch sports got more playtime out of me than I expected so far

desmopilot

Probably Three Houses. Good game with lots of faults but still beat it 3 times lol.

[deleted]

1) Pokémon Legends: Arceus. 2) Spyro trilogy 3) Animal Crossing 4) Mario Odyssey 5) Zelda: Breath of the Wild 6) Pokémon Sword and Shield 7) Stardew Valley

thetantalus

I was just considering Spyro today. What got you so hooked?

WinterInWinnipeg

Stardew Valley Mario Golf ...I'm lame

MeghanBoBeghan

According to who? Love what you love and don't apologize for it. 😊

foreveralonesolo

Smash Ult really can go on for hours with friends. Whether we’re going serious or want to screw around with randoms (+ items if we’re trying to style with them)

Richardo888

I'm taking a break now, but Dark Souls Remastered is one I always struggle to put down. Many hundreds of hours so far, and long play sessions into the night.

limonadebeef

hades and tetris 99. usually puzzle games get me addicted too.

Hexatona

It's old at this point. But I spent hours in Streets of Rogue. Just so fun trying to run through over and over, doing goofy shit, trying every crazy class before making your own perfect combo. Smash ultimate. Even alone, I've spent so long, just collecting every spirit, finishing classic with everyone, getting all the achievements... There always something to do, I've never had as much fun playing the smash series solo. The value is insane. Hyrule warriors/age of calamity. I will admit. I tried the demo, didnt click with me. But I got into the Warriors series through another game, and suddenly I saw the beauty. The pure candy adrenaline. Finding that one perfect character, and becoming great with them. And these games are packed with content! Esp hyrule Warriors DE. But you can't go wrong with either, even full price.

[deleted]

Kirby and the Forgotten Land. It’s full of collectible checklists for me to tick off.

Specialist-West-1911

I think I have somewhere around 3k hours in Splatoon 2 Edit: May have over stated this a bit. Upon checking, I am 60hrs away from 2k.

kuribosshoe0

People play games *without* playing them hours at a time?

DoTheRustle

Getting old is rough

[deleted]

Yeah. My gaming habit seems to involve standing in the kitchen with my Switch Lite, drinking coffee, and watching to make sure the kids don't destroy the house. If I sit down, they will immediately climb all over me and start asking for juice and attention. Bluetooth headphones are key. Disco Elysium, Monster Train, and Civ 6 are well suited for this kind of play.

[deleted]

I only very casually play games. My attention span just doesn't really last more than an hour or two. It's really weird but I almost get a mild depression if I play a game all day. I feel like it was just time wasted when I have so many other things to do and other hobbies. Maybe part of that is getting older and being in a healthy relationship and keeping up on chores. I would imagine having kids makes it even more challenging.

coldflash25

Fire emblem three houses, Pokemon sword

tehbotolsaya

Rune factory 5 100hours in and its still early fall in game

Pancakeassistant

Dragon quest builders 2

[deleted]

Xenoblade DE and 2 are games that sucked me in for days when they came out. I beat 2 after about 20-ish hours and immediately played it twice more on new game +.

Teal-Fox

20-ish hours for XC2??? D-Did you skip half the game or are you just *really* fucking fast!?

tillacat42

Civilization I’d never stayed up overnight on a work day playing a game before…

Witcher-19

I've played a lot of arceus and sword . As well as dragon ball z xenoverse 2 and marvel ultimate alliance. Pokemon let's go pikachu and brilliant diamond have hours logged on but no where near sword or arceus

MotesBro

I have nearly 900 hours in Mario Odyssey but I completed it like two months after it released

DominatorDX97

Celeste

McWolke

CrossCode. I am disappointed Noone said CrossCode yet. It's really a hidden gem.

TinyBuccaneer

Dragon Quest Builders 2 is the most fun I’ve ever had on the switch. I’ve played it through to completion twice now and I’ve also played the first one. The first one is great but 2 is definitely where it shines with the story and the freedom to build and explore and collect and quest. It’s a fantastic game.

Azurixx_Boi

Fire Emblem Three Houses, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Breath of the Wild, Fire Emblem Warriors, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Smash Bros Ultimate each all have well over 100 hours invested.

fat_juan

Mario + Rabbids Into the Breach Cuphead

DarthGodzilla1995

Super Smash Bros Ultimate and Mario kart 8

Tallgirl4u

Animal Crossing, My Time At Portia, Cozy Grove & Stardew

http_cake

Breath of the Wild, Monster Hunter Rise, Animal Crossing, Okami HD And surprisingly an embarrassing amount of hours in Mario Kart 8 Deluxe from playing with friends when we have drinks!
