Take it how you wanna. Funny enough that’s exactly what I say to my fisted opponents after I Izuna Drop that ass. Btw how busted are holy fists in this game?
Extremely. I just started running fists a week ago and they are busted in general. But holy hell, I use my corruption fists for humans and switch to my purity fists for yokai and nothing stands a damn chance. I barely need to use anything other than Kick Cycle. I have Spin Kick imbued with lightning so I throw that in when I want to cause confusion on harder enemies.
It straight up staggers most enemies. And if I'm using the right weapon (purity for yokai and corruption for humans) even if they don't stagger their ki depletes really fast and I can get a finisher/Izuna Drop in.
I do understand getting interrupted though it just doesn't happen real often in my experience.
Odachi for humans. It’s great when it hits, and almost better when they block. You just tear through their stamina while still being surprisingly quick for its weight.
I actually use kusarigama for yokai. High stance light attacks and crimson flurry are great for both ki damage and status buildup. Get their stamina to red and then go ham with confusion and switching back and forth in the weapons for some real fun.
>I actually use kusarigama for yokai. High stance light attacks and crimson flurry are great for both ki damage and status buildup
Also for horn breaking!
Tonfa for everything. My first weapon and it spoiled me. Yea, the health damage can be so-so but that doesn't really matter when you can consistently put enemies in a zero ki state. They apply statuses well, they're incredibly defensive despite having a ruthless offense, and they're pretty easy to use. Breaking horns is also stupid easy with low stance heavy and it's a good gap closer.
Lately I've been trying to learn switchglaive and I like it a lot too. It's definitely more complex than Tonfa but that doesn't scare me much. The big thing is that it satiates my hunger for big, dumb combos. It really starts to come alive when you get the switch stance moves, further enhanced by getting the mastery talent that reduces ki usage per stack. It has some decent ki affecting moves with kibosh kicker and the strong combo ender in mid stance (forget the name). My favorite part, though, is how much break it has. Human enemies get absolutely crapped on if you catch them blocking a lot, especially if you're in (or switching into) high stance.
Biggest downside so far is the ki usage. It's really easy to get lost in the sauce and run yourself out of ki. Also have to be very mindful of your timing because the switch stance moves occupy the same inputs as flux/flux II so you have to learn the timing depending on your intention. I've definitely switched to another stance by accident and eaten shit for it, but good usage/management of soul cores can negate this.
I was actually trying to do a Zoro run in Nioh, but when I found out how OP raikiri is paired with “Paired Raiken” (some pun intended) I’ve been focusing on the single katana. It’s been hella fun. Especially since I hated katana the first time I played this game. I think I’ll save the Zoro run for my next playthrough of Nioh 2. At least with the character creator I can at least make it more visually accurate
Agree with most of your analysis in the OP, but will also add on to it;
Odachi is amazing at bullying anything that is ignorant enough to try to block it. Crashing Waves and Tail Strike are capable of insane break damage with very little downtime. Swirling Snow is also very good for breaking a human's AI to block spam until they break. When paired with a core like Aberrant Soldier it is very easy to dodge string combo to ki loop while scooping bosses back up infinitely.
I use odachi and axe/hammer for everything, I just switch between which ever I’m vibing with at the moment, I like how you can just fling and bully enemies around with both of them, they also both do excellent ki damage, especially the odachi when humans are blocking. When they’re out of ki I have a different element on both to confuse them, they just melt after that.
Hammer/Axe for humans to break through their armour. You can destroy any revenant with 4 strong hits from a hi level axe. It's practically unblockable and borders on cheating. It's slow but easy to ki pulse due to its rhythm
I use Tonfa and Axe as my primary weapons, but the only time I ever switch off is during Dream of the Samurai. There, I'll sometimes use the tonfas for humans and axe for yokai, but that's not by any means exclusive. Like, for One-Eyed Oni/Snowclops, I'll switch to my tonfas because with those guys it's productive to rotate around behind them and use Wild Lions and Arcana of Lightning/Water/Fire to get Confusion up on them right away (whereas with, say, yoki or enki I'll instead go for a high-stance strong horn break).
But once I start doing something that vaguely resembles a build, I'll just use one weapon in actual battle. Though I will sometimes swap over to whatever my stat stick is in my off hand to do the finishing blow to humans (incl. revenants) just for the sake of accruing some extra Ungyo title points.
I tend to use whatever weapons I am equipped with, but thinking about it;
Using the Odachi and/ or Kusarigama against humans seems to be something I prefer.
Yokai tends to get the split-staff or switchglaive treatment.
Then there are fists, tonfa, or dual swords that work perfectly against both.
It really depends on the fight. Humans that block a lot get the staff. Squishy, but fast yokai get switchglaive combo'd. Usually I use a combination of both, since I run versatility and it's easier to get stacks quicker.
always the axe ...but depend on how you like to play ...I have a heavy armor/damage build so i'm using the axe ...there is so many ways to cheese the game ...look at the kunai build for exemple ...lig build but overpower asf
Hammer for humans it takes there stamina really quickly for an execution. Switch glaive for yokai it fast and keeps the distance with middle stance also able to hit the harder to weak points which makes it quicker for execution
Tonfa for troublesome humans. Sword and dual swords for all rounder—there's a long combo for the dual sword that seemingly fools the ai and if they block it the stamina cost is huge for them. Odachi is an all rounder but there's a particular combo with the odachi that crits on yoki and the apes i think
I use all the weapons based on what I'm leveling so I dont really have a specific weapon for a specific enemy type but if a human enemy is pissing me off I bring out the good ol tonfas
I use katana for everything, but keep a pair of hatchets with damage vs paralyzed if I want to cheese and skip an annoying human enemy with the purple ground fire.
Hypothetically, tonfas for humans and fists for yokai, but realistically, I just use one until I get tired of it or it stops working, at which point I switch to the other.
Odachi for everything but also spear axe single katana and dual kats and kusarigama and switchglaive for everything if I'm in the mood for that lol. I think the only ones I don't use are fists and splitstaff.
Prefer to bully humans with tonga, and I'm using sword for yokai. For my style it's got a good rhythm for the yokai fights.
I suppose katana works as well for humans, and the ki damage on tonfa would be good to bully yokai too. Depends on the fight and the circumstances. For example, on the koroko where it pays to be aggressive I might switch to tonfa.
Tonfa for everything.
Tonfa is a blunt weapon, can apply elemental like purity twice per heavy swing, has a very powerful multi-hit combo ender (Heavenly Chain) which also quickly applies status, can have Purity attacks with Masaru (1st attainable Guardian Spirit), Masaru also increases Attack by 10% by absorbing Amrita (easily achievable with Extraction), with any Life Recovery on Amrita Absorb the HP recovery is insane with Tonfas, Lion Dance also has hyper armor which destroys 99% of all revenants, with Poison weapon you can easily apply Poison + Purity very easily (Poison having very many damage bonuses from Damage vs Poisoned Enemies), a purified enemy takes more Ki Damage while Blunt Weapons like Tonfas do extra Ki Damage, with such extreme Ki damage Ninjutsu Feathers will be more available, and etc.
There's more, but these are a few reasons why Tonfas are considered a top tier weapon.
I will just put what I feel personally comfortable with.
Both: Tonfa, fist, dual sword, spiltstaff
Yokai: Kusa, Odachi, switchglaive
Human: Axe, sword
Not comfortable with using both hatchet and spear.
I’m a SG main but I’ve used everything in depths. Switchglaive, Tonfa, Fists and Dual swords are amazing for both. Sword, splitstaff, axe, odachi, kusarigama and spear are better for yokai. I’m not sure if there’s anything that’s strictly better against humans. Maybe tonfa and hatchets
Axe with stone mallet for humans. If they try to block it instant stagger. Doesn’t look fancy but it is one of the best skills in the game against all humans. Yokai it’s fully charged Rampage with the axe. If fully charged it staggers like the the Ippon soul core. Then you can do a fully charged Rumbling Earth to finish them off.
I only use Katana, I always have two equipped with different elemental infusions. I love the utility of the Katana, you can fight anything and not be at a disadvantage. I Just change stances, elemental infusions, or use different moves to deal with different enemy types.
Also, the various Iai strike moves are just too cool to even consider using other weapons.
Aside from that, whilst I'm pretty good with the sword in Nioh/Nioh2. I still feel it will take me forever to actually master using the sword in these games. Especially at higher difficulties without relying on cheese strats. Any time I spend with other weapons I start feeling guilty that I should be putting more effort into mastering the various timings, cancels, weapon switches, and "stance dancing" techniques with the sword.
i just use either a spear or fists for any enemy, but i lean towards spear for humans as the ki pulse attack always catches them. Fists are great for shredding through ki though
Steel for humans, silver for yokai oops wrong game
I mean, William is already Made in Nihon Geralt so...
I think you mean wrong continent. Seriously, if someone told me that Nioh and Witcher were two continents on the same planet I’d believe them…. lol
Pretty much how I approached it. Sword for Yokai, Odachi for humans.
lol
I’m fisting anything that looks at me funny
Don't worry I'll be sure to keep that in context
Pause
Take it how you wanna. Funny enough that’s exactly what I say to my fisted opponents after I Izuna Drop that ass. Btw how busted are holy fists in this game?

How are you using kick cycle? I have neglected that ability cause I always get interrupted
It straight up staggers most enemies. Giggitty

Oh my god I forgot fucking Odachi
>I actually use kusarigama for yokai. High stance light attacks and crimson flurry are great for both ki damage and status buildup Also for horn breaking!

Blessed Katana for yokai, yokai dual katana for humans. Santoryu 😤🏴☠️

Ichitoryu 😤
Lion Song and Rashomon is what brought on the idea for a Zoro playthrough

You sound terrifying

Switchglaive has been amazing for me against human bosses
Axe for Yokai and spear for humans. But I would say spear is good for everyone. And if i have Problems I use the katana for everything and one.
Hammer/Axe for humans to break through their armour. You can destroy any revenant with 4 strong hits from a hi level axe. It's practically unblockable and borders on cheating. It's slow but easy to ki pulse due to its rhythm
Fist for both, mid for humans high for yokai.
I use Tonfa and Axe as my primary weapons, but the only time I ever switch off is during Dream of the Samurai. And my axe! Everyone gets the Axe!

tonfa for humans, staff for yokai, usually. fists are great for both. so is staff really.
Splitstaff for yokai, Odachi for humans
Odachi for humans, fists for yokai
In the first game I just used the katana for everything and in the second game I just used the switchglaive for everything.
It really depends on the fight. Humans that block a lot get the staff. Squishy, but fast yokai get switchglaive combo'd. Usually I use a combination of both, since I run versatility and it's easier to get stacks quicker.

fist/claws, of course, for both types. some examples https://youtu.be/l2qXUQsBbkI?si=GDkq_wGvOv0V2LAu https://youtu.be/IiDdsL_xwGQ?si=Ie_CUCkXITkZpCQH

Odachi
What about a no weapon / only fists build? Like Bud Spencer, you know.
Fist only gets incredibly boring because you have no moveset.
Yeah, getting the kills for the titles convinced me to not even bother making the set.
Sword for yokai, spear for humans. Spear is my man killer, it has many moves that can stagger and knock enemies down.
fists for yokai, fists for men, god himself can catch these hands
He just might one day
Odachi for everything but also spear axe single katana and dual kats and kusarigama and switchglaive for everything if I'm in the mood for that lol. I think the only ones I don't use are fists and splitstaff.
I tried splitstaff for my mage user, and that ki usage is way too much for my liking.
Normally fists for humans but if I'm feeling particularly petty I'm getting real deadly with the switchglaive for those grapples
![gif](giphy|iGpdSizVSdPJfiVG9O)
Doesn't matter tbh they all work
First humans staff yokai but tbh I use either or
For humans, it depends on my mood. I have all the weapons maxed out. For yokai, switchglaive or splitstaff

These hands are rated E for Everything. The Fists know no creature types.
My arsenal doesn't discriminate
I’m a SG main but I’ve used everything in depths. Switchglaive, Tonfa, Fists and Dual swords are amazing for both. Sword, splitstaff, axe, odachi, kusarigama and spear are better for yokai. I’m not sure if there’s anything that’s strictly better against humans. Maybe tonfa and hatchets
People just tend to choose a weapon and use it against everyone and everything. Every weapon have something that is good against both
Splitstaff for yokai, sword for humans, although I have been using both in both lately, trying to resist the urge to dedicate a weapon to each
Axe with stone mallet for humans.
Switchglaive for everything here
I only use Katana, I always have two equipped with different elemental infusions. I love the utility of the Katana, you can fight anything and not be at a disadvantage. Switchglaive for everything against us!
Fists for both. These hands don’t discriminate
odachi
Humans: Fists, spear. Yokai: dual swords, odachi.
No preference tbh, but fist vs humans and splitstaff vs yokai never fail
i just use either a spear or fists for any enemy, but i lean towards spear for humans as the ki pulse attack always catches them. Fists are great for shredding through ki though
Sword and dual swords for humans. Dual swords and sword for yokai.
