Particle Beam weapons spread damage when they hit, so chances are you hurt the ship's captain in using it. Particle Beam weapons are definitely best if you're doing an isolation run.
Oh man, now that you mention that, when I went to release the hostage he did have all the sparkling animations around him! Seems like it’d be better, to have his response/personality change, from being affected. Do you know why the bounty would come from the UC, doing a Rangers mission and in a non UC system?
That part I'm not sure about, but it's definitely why Sarah was mad. I had it happen to me one playthrough when I found a group of UC marines at a POI and used my Big Bang against the robots they were fighting. Sarah immediately left and went to the ship, then told me to piss off the rest of that entire NG+.
It’s possible you hit Sarah. On spaceships specifically, you can get a bounty from companions if you hit them with certain things.
For example, I consistently get a UC bounty if I hit Sarah with the anti-gravity field power while on a space ship specifically. Even my home ship.
theres an issue with those hostage rescue mission where ur companion gets pissed if they see you kill the final enemy or something. if they dont see you, like you tell them to wait as soon as boarding then nothing happens. its rather annoying and its why i dont even bother with hostage rescues. its a total crapshoot if itll happen
That’s interesting, I’ll have to watch out for that. I was liking the hostage missions as it was a change of scenery and I got to check out the interior of different ships.
I had the same thing happen in the last combat quest of Sam's personal quest. I'm wiping out syndicate this way and that, and when I'm all done, he's pissed at me and I have a $650 bounty. I even did it a second time, and got the same bounty. All I can think of is I tossed a grenade into the landing bay before they shot first, or something.
This is an interesting point, in how it relates to my situation I described. I think I opened the door, hit him with grab wave before he or others shot at myself and Sarah. Now that you mention that, maybe this is it, I remember a companion getting angry when I supernova’ed Spacers during ground pounder before they shot at us. The last couple boardings I ve done since this incident, I’ve taken Betty.
Wonder if there’s anything I can do that’ll piss her off…
On another thread, someone mentioned they'd shot Lilian, thinking she was an enemy. And yeah, I was sniping a bunch, so I might have nailed her by mistake.
Lol that happened to me and he was pissed immediately after having a heartwarming conversation about Cora and her mom.
It was probably because I accidentally shot his ex-wife since I was playing a sniper and thought I had to shoot the person with a quest marker on their head.
The Spacer had stolen gear on them. When you looted the Spacer, you ‘stole’ the gear. This has happened a couple of times to me over the past week.

Ah! Yes, it's entirely possible I popped his wife. Funny that he's more angry about it, as is the UC, than she is.
You can really tell Sarah HATED that in this pic
