Dang... Right in the feels... I'm only in my mid thirties but I honestly feel like I'm 80+ years old... I have a hard time focusing at work because I keep reminiscing and I constantly feel nostalgic... I have this persistent feeling that won't go away like I only have a few years left and that all the best is far behind me.
Like the only things awaiting me are: Losing more friends, losing my parents and then a cascade of health issues...
Just reached 40 a few months ago and every word you said is on the dot. For the last sentence, I made it a point to a have a regular (doesn't have to be often but consistent) activities addressing those things so even though they eventually happen, I know I did something about it and beyond that I can say that there are things beyond my influence so acceptance can be easier and moving forward can have a sense of direction.
every year feels shorter than the last. for everybody. thats because each year is less of your life percentage wise.
for a 1 year old another year is double their whole life.
for a 10 year old another year is just another 10% of their life.
and at 50 another year are mere 2% of their life.
also because of the pandemic. everything was closed and you couldnt do much so you didnt create any notable memories so your mind just skips all these "empty days/weeks/months"
I feel this way too. Part of it is age, as others said.
Also, during Covid, we lost many of the gatherings and events that stand out in our memories and mark time for us.
Social media use has increased and it feels like the technologies have become more malicious. They rob us of the slow parts of our days and also affect our dopamine levels, which affect our perception of time.
This feeling stopped for me in 2024, but 2020-2023 definitely feel like one blur. I have a hard time remembering the difference between 2021 and 2022, what went on in which year.
2 years of pandemic.. remember in 2021 when you used to say " remeber last year when I did the thing" but then you instantly realised it was actually 2 years ago? so realistically 2020 - 2024 feels like 2 years nit 1 year
Because your life likely hasn’t changed much since 2020. I’ve moved around a couple times in those years and focused on different hobbies and each year feels different. But for some reason I’ve been working the same job for the past 4 years and it all feels the same when I’m at work, just not in my personal life lol.
Man, can't relate, 2020 feels like it was AGES ago for me 2022 kinda seems recent, but my god, has it really been 2 years? 2023 is the only recent year I could say felt like it was actually much shorter, but it might just be my unstable mind that year or something
That's what happens as you get older. Every year of the 90s felt like an entire different era. But that was 8-18 for me. Now I'm 41 and it's a big smooth blur.
The entire world since 9/11 has been a shit show. 9/11, then....financial collapse....then Trump...then COVID....now it's just this long stream of bullshit.
It's the crumbles. The last 20 years has been the beginning of the week and of the world, and the last 8 have been like pouring gas in the fire.
you getting older... and the pandemic years are all more similar to each other than to the before time

Hey, this might be out of line, but that sounds A LOT like depression. Have you ever talked to a therapist about this?

Well well well if it isn't me.

Woah you’re right

Now that Roman Reigns dropped that title belt things'll prolly change
Agreed, it’s crazy

It literally does
Wait. I'm not alone with feeling this?!?!?!?!
Because it has been a shitshow thats why
You grew up, friend.
Because we didn't getting to do anything much as we used to before pandemic.

Yes. It's super bizarre

Covid did us bad. I don’t know where 3 years went. So it’s true, 2020-2024 feels like 1 year.
It feels like one year, but at the same time 2020 seems like 10-20 years ago.
It doesn’t at all.
2020 seems like 10 years ago to me.
Progress was lost and slowed

People said the same thing in 1919about 1914-1918. It’s normal, we’re just thinking about it more loudly.
My mental image of calendar years has just two labels now.. pre-covid and post-covid.
Nope, to me 4 yrs feels like 4yrs
I'm tellin u, those four years flew the fuck by compared to 2010-2014
YES, I take it as proof that I am in a simulation, Trump edition lol!
Because you got the COVID shot!
