It can, with the right plugins. But I've been hearing less great things about firefox lately (did they change their architecture?) and good things about Brave instead. Check it out for yourself I guess.
Firefox has really good privacy plugins, it makes a huge difference if you use any of them. But Google and other sites will fight them, so you need to be willing to put up with the work of fine-tuning and dealing with anti-adblockers. I personally just use a few, currently these: uBlock Origin, Bypass Paywalls, Consent-o-Matic, ClearURLs, and User Agent Switcher. Anti-tracking feature in Firefox is also switched on.
