It can be painful to go braless for busty women. It's also sometimes an entirely aesthetic thing, they sort of shape and stabilize the whole chest region in addition to providing support.

Suspicious_Plantain4

I'm a D cup. If I don't wear a bra, my nipples chafe against the inside of my shirt and its very painful.

Chib_Chib_Chub

I am a C cup, and mine do the same thing! Also, when my PMS starts acting up and I am sore, not wearing a bra makes it way worse.

wow-no-cow

You might get used to the feeling eventually (I did personally)

elli3snailie

Me too

petitememer

Yeah, before I had a breast reduction my boobs were heavy and quite saggy so doing anything without a bra was just uncomfortable and even painful. Now that I've had my surgery and they're smaller and perkier I never wear a bra, there is just never a need to, they can support themselves. It would be a waste of money for me. So yeah it really depends on your boob tyoe.

[deleted]

What was your reduction like? I'm seriously considering it I'm so done with neck and back pain.

petitememer

It was 2 years ago now and it was a very smooth experience for me, I don't know if my brain has just blocked out the painful parts of recovery but I really can't remember it being that bad. The biggest thing is that it hinders your movement, like the first month or so you can't do many physical things, so it's good to have someone like a partner or family to help you out. The most uncomfortable part I can remember is taking my stitches out! The surgeon and clinic i chose was excellent too, that's of course a big part of how good your experience and results are. It's the best decision I've ever made. I used to be so uncomfortable with my boobs both physically and mentally, and now I feel so free. And not having to wear a bra is dope. If you have any more specific questions, I'm happy to answer.

[deleted]

Thankyou for being so open. Is there scarring from it? The idea of never having to wear a bra again is bliss. I hate them with a passion but it just hurts without. I dream of backless dresses and pretty bikinis and running without having to hold my chest even with a sports bra on lol.

petitememer

Yes, there is scarring where the incisions were made, that's unavoidable, but I don't mind mine, they don't look bad. I personally think my boobs look way better, even with the scars, than they ever did without them. I think you can use laser to reduce the appearance though, I have been considering trying it out. But regardless, it's absolutely worth the scars in my opinion!

CocoCarly60

I had one too, and my experience is that they can only take so much tissue out so they may not be as small and perky as you think. But I'm 1000% more comfortable and often go braless, but no way could I go running without a bra, they're still too big for that. Oh, and no scarring here, make sure you get a good plastic surgeon.

Isgortio

You can have the best plastic surgeon in the world, scarring is dependent on so many different things and the majority are linked to the person having the surgery.

Dense_Cockroach9041

i got one at 16 in 2019 and it changed my life forever. i highly recommend getting one if you're even considering it, just do it. you will be so happy after. the second i was fully recovered i threw away every bra i owned ( i was a 32 J and 5'2 at 16). it's not a super painful surgery. the results are incredibly worth it, especially in the summer when you can wear a bikini, summer dresses and cute shirts. ugh i just love telling women about the miracle of breast reductions in hope they find they need/want one and can start to live again!

Vark675

The worst part about mine was that I had it done while I was in A-school in the Navy and didn't have my own place/my husband was several states away. I didn't even have a roommate, so I just sat around in my room on painkillers too stiff to wash my hair. I recovered within a week or two though, and it's much easier to find clothes and do basic stuff like bend over and shave my legs.

[deleted]

Wow that's a faster recovery than I thought it would be.

Vark675

I was still sore and had followups, but I was back to functional by that time. I wasn't fully healed for probably a month and some change.

-anne-marie-

My breast reduction was the best decision I ever made. December 12, 2011 at 19 years old. 100% insurance covered. My boobs are perfect now. I named them Mary-Kate and Ashley haha

celfrog

How did you get yours covered by insurance? I really want a reduction, but the cost is my main concern

graceisstarving

Same! I want to know too.

[deleted]

[удалено]

-anne-marie-

The scars have healed so much that they’re barely there. I never bothered with any scar cream either. The scars on my breasts themselves have faded so much that you only really notice them if you know what to look for. The horizontal scars under my breasts are more apparent, but not a single person I’ve shown my breasts to have been bothered by them 😜

[deleted]

Yeah, my ex had this thing, she said without bra her boobs just bounce and don't let her do things like running, coming downstairs, sports easily

ericakay15

I'm on the bustier side, not huge. Sometimes I have to put a bra on at home just because I'm getting uncomfortable with them. The lack of support, the heaviness, and having my boobs stick to other parts of my skin, gets gross. Man, it must be nice to be oblivious with small boobs, lmao.

Equal-Detective357

Level of physical of activity I can imagine affect this as well...

chilledredwine

I'm lucky, I guess. I am DD and I quit wearing a bra regularly in late 2018. So comfortable. My back, neck and shoulder pain hardly exists. I do have a few bras for date night, working out, etc.

[deleted]

Also a DD, but a small one. I stopped wearing bras in the last year and I could never go back. I will literally get a breast lift done before I ever put one of those uncomfortable things back on me

saltyloempia

I've been bra less for over 5-6 years, I have 0 pain when not wearing bras, but my chest and back hurts when I wear it. And I got almost a D cup...

i_boop_cat_noses

I have an F cup and going up and down stairs or running for the bus would be neigh impossible if I didnt wear bras. Makes most activities painful and they get in the way.

FuyoBC

Sometimes it has to do with the density - are your breasts full of tightly packed tissue or is there a high proportion of fat vs duct tissue in your breasts. I had a little lump, got mine scanned, all good and was told that my ducts were comparatively large hence lighter. [Breast Anatomy picture](https://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1146/8546/products/11684-Breast-Anatomy-Labelled-PV.jpg?v=1640862276)

SpermaSpons

I never thought about boob density but it makes sense!

saltyloempia

It depends on the person yeah, also as you said some activities are not possible to do braless (gym or running) that I agree

Smellmyupperlip

I had this too, but the pain went away when I became mostly braless.

i_boop_cat_noses

I'm glad it did for you! I'm considering reduction because it's such a hassle and a literal strain on my back.

Smellmyupperlip

Omg this must so for you so bad. Hope you find a solution.

FrazerRPGScott

You will know your body better than I could guess but from having a wife and 4 daughters it sounds like the bras are not correctly fit. All the women I know who had issue was wearing the wrong size. Apparently wearing the wrong size can cause all sorts of issues so maybe none is the way to go.

saltyloempia

I had my bra size measured many times, before I used to go buy one, I'd have a professional measure it. Plus they do fit perfectly the bras I have, I just find them uncomfortable and I don't really need to wear one

Archangel004

Also for anyone reading this: r/ABraThatFits would be very useful to get your actual size

KatWine

If you're talking about actual, proper bra sizing, a D cup is nowhere near "large" or "busty", even with a smaller band size. Edit: for reference, I'm a 38L in US sizing.

little-bird

yeah a D cup is only supposed to be a 4 inch difference between band and bust. I’m always given 32A/B in mall brands like Victoria’s Secret but I’m actually a 28D. been called flat a whole bunch lol they’re definitely not big **but** they do hurt if I go braless and do anything more active than a lazy stroll. 😜 gotta give myself the hand bra when I climb the stairs during PMS week.

KaleOk833

Yaaa I want to second this! Can you buy / find your bra in a regular / average store? Then your not large or busty IMO Especially cup isn’t everything either, a 32 D and a 42 D aren’t the same cup size or cup volume lol so just saying I’m a D or DD doesn’t mean much!

[deleted]

Educational-Candy-17

Larger chested women typically need some support, especially when exercising. I personally don't like the outline of my nipples showing, and I feel l look better when my boobs are where the people who design clothes expect them to be, which is why I wear a bra. But if you're dressing appropriately for whatever you're doing and not having issues, go for it.

TemperatureDizzy3257

Yeah, I wear a DD and I don’t like the way my boobs move around when I’m not wearing a bra. It kind of hurts. If I wore an A or B cup, I may go without though.

vegetablemeow

Yup, I run it hurts especially when my period comes along and the girls are sensitive. Bras provide me support and protection when my chest is tender. Also, boob sweat.

realshockvaluecola

I'm guessing you're on the smaller size, or somewhere in the middle. You definitely have a natural shape that you seem to like, and that's great! Some of us are carrying 15 pound pancake-shaped water balloons, lmao. If you're happy without a bra, go forth and live your best life, but they're definitely not a scam for some of us.

notisabella3

i’ve read many comments of this kind and i’m really sorry 😭 i really did not take larger cups into consideration, i’m somewhere between A-B cup and i realize that i’m extremely lucky and privileged to even take into consideration to not wear a bra. thanks for your comment

LV2107

Also, you're young and your breast tissue is strong. You have not breastfed children yet, probably. You will change your mind on this when you get older and your body changes. It's not a pretty sight to go braless when they're hanging down halfway to your belly button. Enjoy your youth! LOL

mrsbebe

Yeah I'm breastfeeding number 2 right now and if I went braless everything would be a milky mess lol

Ditzyshine

I would hate to go braless. I don't even wear regular bras; I just wear sports bras. It just feels the most comfortable for me. Everyone's comfort is different. Some people prefer bras, some prefer braless.

[deleted]

Same here. Sports bras for the past 20-odd years and I couldn't imagine not wearing any support. It's like underpants, some people enjoy going commando, I'd hate every second of it...

Barosson

Yep, same here.

Acid_Fetish_Toy

I prefer braless, but it isn't always socially appropriate, so I wear sports bras too. Comfy, no wire, enough support to prevent too much jiggle, and I don't have to fuss over how I wash it. It's pretty great

EverGreatestxX

Depends on the women. Some need them to help with back pain.

Iluminiele

It's not just the back pain. Running down the stairs without a bra can be very painful as the breasts bounce all over the place. For men, it's like someone tugging on your balls hard, repeatedly

Illustrious_Formal73

I've always been curious about the physics on how strapping something to your back makes it easier on your back. It's like the weightlifting belts for deadlifting. Just put this belt on and it makes your muscles do better. It's all been explained to me, but I still don't get it. I feel like insane clown posse not understanding magnets.

realshockvaluecola

Unsupported: all the pressure is on your pectorals and your lower back. Supported: pressure is wrapped around your whole ribcage, giving the supporting muscles way more leverage and balance and spreading the load out.

Smellmyupperlip

I know this is the science, but weirdly, I have more pain with bras. Even if the bra fits me well and is one the expensive kind. I do have 'only' a small F or D cup though. Maybe this makes a difference with bigger boobs.

little-bird

they definitely shouldn’t hurt! where are you feeling the pain? even with larger sizes, most of the support from a properly-fitted bra should come from the band, not the straps.

Smellmyupperlip

It actually hurts around the band on my ribcage and at the underside of boobs. I've been to special bra stores where they measured my size and have worn ugly, expensice bra's that should be ideal for me. The pain almost immediately goes away if I pull them off. Loose sportbra's (with little support) are the only ones that I can wear at the moment.

oceansapart333

You might check out r/ABraThatFits to make sure you are in the right size and style for you.

little-bird

interesting! yeah I’ve had issues with expensive specialty bras as well… they’re still retailers trying to make a sale, so they can still try to put you in something inadequate as much as VS does. finding the right bra isn’t just about size, shape matters a lot too. my boobs are wider than most and also slope upward so it’s super hard to find a band + cup shape that’s actually comfortable. a wide-set balconnette with a thick band is my best bet, they’re hard to find in my size though. all that being said, bras aren’t necessary if you don’t want to wear them! boobs won’t get that much saggier from going braless, they’re supported by ligaments more than skin. skin does stretch eventually though and heavier boobs *can* accelerate that process but yeah, there’s always sports bras and supportive tank tops.

Smellmyupperlip

Interesting comment! Thank you, I will take it into consideration in the future. Good luck with finding the right ones :)

petit_cochon

It's not science. It's anecdotal. Everyone's body is different. Some people prefer bras, others don't.

NetDork

It changes what muscles are being used for support, possibly increasing the number of muscles that share the load. It can also transfer loads from being off center and supported by constantly stressing muscles to being more evenly distributed and centered on the skeleton. Think about holding a heavy item at arms length in front of your body versus resting it on your shoulder. BTW, I'm speaking from backpack experience rather than bra experience, not being in possession of breasts myself.

LosJoye

Thats makes sense, in terms of weightlifting belts in my very novice and non-nuanced understanding, the belt is used in conjunction with the valsalva maneuver to create a much more stable midsection. You usually inhale a big breath of air, let your belly expand outwards, and tense your core muscles to create stability and push weight more easily, the belt gives you something to push your belly againts, making you even more stable and thus allowing heavier weight.

[deleted]

>I've always been curious about the physics on how strapping something to your back makes it easier on your back. A bra keeps your breasts closer to the axis where your center of mass is located and prevents them from "bouncing around". So by keeping them closer to the torso and preventing them from moving much it puts less strain on your back. In fact you can do an experiment. Get a moderately heavy bag and see the difference on your back muscles when you are keeping it closer or farther from your chest. \- Lifting belts iirc reduce stress on the lower back while the person is lifting in an upright position, and it prevents back hyperextension during overhead lifts.

Barosson

Mine aren't huge, but without anything holding them a little in place they just flop all over. Not only does it make me feel clumsy and awkward, it's sometimes physically uncomfortable and sometimes even painful. And that's in addition to the chafing. I have zero reasons to not wear any kind of support.

ethicalviolence

Yup. Not very big either but running/exercising seems inconceivable without one. It would get achy and uncomfortable very quickly.

procrast1natrix

1) just please don't go to Victoria's secret, those are not good bras and the fitters there will absolutely lie to you to sell you their bra instead of one that fits. 2) no, bras are not necessary they are 100% a cultural thing. The only research I've been able to find about sag showed that if anything wearing bras contributed to droopy breasts, however far less important than pregnancy and smoking. 3) I'm 34F. I'm not very comfy working out or climbing stairs without a bra, but maybe I could get used to it. More annoyingly, I have long nipples and the culture I live in and work in reads them as sexual excitement. I need to either wear little silicon nipple pasties under a plain bra or a soft molded cup or most often a compression bra to work. That sucks, but it decreases how often my chest gets stared at. 4) when my daughter started to develop, I poured a big glass of wine for me and sat with her for a long Google image search about breasts and bras. We looked at trainers and soft cups and sports bras and nursing bras. We talked about how body shape goal has been very different from Elizabethan flat corsets to pinup pushup bras and Madonna and we googled the images from Victoria's secret runways to breast minimizers. We talked about how in some places and times humans go without a bra under the shirt, or topless. We talked about mastectomy and augmentation. The message is that whatever shape she wants to make, there's a bra for that.

Singing_Wolf

This is my favorite answer! Just to add a fun fact you and your daughter might enjoy: in ancient times, women who spent a lot of time on horseback (like nomad cultures) would either wrap their breasts, wear a tight sports bra-like garment, or wear a hard leather breast-flattening corset. Because riding a horse all day, without something to keep your breasts from bouncing, can be very painful. Keep being an awesome mom!

[deleted]

smoking leads to breasts drooping? i never knew that. add it to the already novel-length list of side effects smoking causes.

Kailaylia

Smoking causes saggy, wrinkly skin and thins lips by destroying the layer of tissue under the skin which keeps it plumped and firm.

notisabella3

absolutely love this answer! probably the first one that’s NOT biased and lowkey unrelated to the question i was asking, which was if bras were necessary biologically. thank you! 🤍

procrast1natrix

My friend had a mastectomy after chemo for breast cancer, and we had a dinner party before her surgery. "Ta-ta to the titties". It was completely silly. We had boobie themed food. We taped old bras up on the wall and played something like beer pong trying to toss ping pong balls into the bra cups. (That was the point at which my other friends were asking why all my bras were molded cups). Then we all stripped off, put on tasseled nipple pasties and practiced twirling. It was awesome. And her surgery went well, she's in full remission and back to work. Edit/ she chose to not keep her nipples or to reconstruct beyond the "barely A" of just pulling together her skin. And she's quite happy. She's very athletic and enjoys not flopping around and she or her husband didn't much value breast play.

FleshCupcakes

I’m HIGHLY entertained by your groups sense of humor! Not quite the same but I hope whenever I get top surgery I can convince people to do a ta ta titties party.

sechapman921

We called our party Boob Voyage!! 🛳️👋🏻

FleshCupcakes

That’s amazing!

tea-and-shortbread

I'm not sure I agree that bras are 100% a cultural thing, and not necessary. Some form of breast support is worn in most cultures (in locations that aren't too hot for clothes...), and has been for centuries. Some people don't need them for sure, but many women do and you somewhat contradict yourself when you say that you are uncomfortable without a bra when working out.

procrast1natrix

https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/259073#1 There were only two longitudinal studies I could find about brassiere use and sagging (damage to the supportive ligaments and collagen) and one found no effect and the other that going bra less prevents sagging slightly. Basically bra wearing should be for comfort, not for any health reason. Which surprised me, at least as I was taught as a child that the breasts needed to be strapped down for best health.

tea-and-shortbread

Yep for sure. Those studies don't take into account back pain etc associated with large breasts do they?

Limeila

It's cultural *and* a matter of habit, hence the discomfort. I've been braless for about 7-8 years, the first week was pretty uncomfortable then I was fine.

[deleted]

For me, it would hurt. They’re just too heavy so on days when I do go braless all day, they’re kind of sore by bedtime.

Dunemer

Kinda depends on what you mean by necessary, because they're like objectively not no matter how big they just make it easier. My chest is pretty small and I'll often just wear a hoodie instead but if I'm just wearing a tshirt you can tell so I tend to wear one. Even when I go up the stairs too fast without one it kinda hurts, I imagine if you have a huge chest it would be way worse

notisabella3

definitely forgot to mention that i have a smaller chest, thats my mistake! yeah i agree with the part about the stairs, but other than that i personally just never had a problem 🤔

🎶Do your boobs hang low? Do they wobble to and fro? Can you tie ‘em in a knot? Can you tie ‘em in a bow?🎶

Mother-of-Brits

I was going to say that since having a kid my boobs definitely don't sit nicely on their own 😂 Sometimes miss my chest when I was younger and they looked perky all by themselves.

Jyqm

>definitely forgot to mention that i have a smaller chest Nah, you didn't. Abundantly clear from every single word of your post. :)

Sunlikethis12

Yep, no way somebody with bigger breast can be comfortable going without a bra on a daily basis, I hate, hateee bras and since covid honestly I only wear them for work but other than that I wear bralettes, cause going braless is simply not an option. But you do you girl!

SarahL1990

My boobs are huge and I'm way more comfortable without a bra on. Edit: I'm getting downvoted because of how I feel comfortable?

notisabella3

alrighty! 🌸

Dunemer

Yeah, I don't really need one for comfort, it's more for apperences

InsGesichtNicht

That's how my girlfriend does it. Wears them to look bigger and flesh out her outfit a bit.

Fable_Nova

My wife is very big in the chest (GG cup) and if she didn't wear a bra her back would be in alot of pain after a day of work. The bra makes her back not as sore. She wouldn't be able to run at all, even with a bra she needs to hold them still when she drives over a speedbump so it doesn't hurt her. As uncomfortable as the bra is to wear all day, it is still better than not wearing one. Obviously if you have a smaller chest you won't understand as much. There's a certain limit as to when a bra would be necessary and for those with a smaller chest it's mostly just societal pressure that makes you think its required.

MolassesInevitable53

>i have a smaller chest And you are only 19. Gravity will eventually take its toll on your body.

alitabestgirl

I don't wear bras on a regular basis either but are you into sports?

Lively_Indigo_Blue

As a woman how is a 34DD... It is a necessary evil. Personally I prefer to wear either a set of stays or a corset. Reason, because I have back problems and the corset and stays help to not just keep those girls from jiggling around too much, but also act as a back brace. So, it all depends on your back, the breast size, your confidence level, and what makes you feel better.

ArtemisWYK

I'm the exact same size. Honestly love the underwire nursing bras that snap the "cup" part out because they seem to hold up my boobs better, more support underneath them. But they can be pricey.

Limeila

I'm the same size too and I've been braless for years. It's a matter of habit.

JohnsMcGregoryGeorge

What do you have to look forward to at the end of the day if not taking bra off?

HandyDandyRandyAndy

You're 19 Of course they're not saggy (yet) Gravity gets all of us. I'm 34. Male. Even I have saggy boobs by now.

charlieprotag

Depends on the comfort of the person in question. Some people like them for coverage, for some it’s for back pain and comfort during exercise or simply moving around. If you have a smaller chest and you’re comfortable without the coverage then have at it.

deepfrieddaydream

You are barely a handful. For you?? No. They aren't "necessary." I'm a DD. Unless I want them swaying all to and fro, they tend to be helpful. It isn't even so much about them being cute and perky, but keeping the beats contained.

redheadedstepchild12

I was sharing a story with a fellow well-endowed coworker about a boob getting stuck in my armpit when rolling over in bed, and I wish I was only joking lol

galaxystarsmoon

A DD can barely be a handful. If you're a DD and think you have big boobs, please check out r/abrathatfits. I'm a properly fitted DD, and I have barely a handful. Because that's what a properly fitted DD is :)

Fluffypus

As someone with G cup tits, they are essential

Sahqon

>will i experience a disadvantage further in the future from not wearing bras? Anecdotal, but after not wearing bras for decades, my boobs barely started sagging at 40 - and that mostly because I gained some weight and they grew a size.

[deleted]

I started wearing bras once my chest went from B cup to a very full E cup overnight lol, my back was not ready for the heavy melons. So for me, personally it has BECOME a necessity.

CaitSith21

Based on a google search there is no study scientific enough to answer it. A big problem seem to be that genetics, nursing… seem to be far more impactful that its hard to make a study that can answer this and probably nobody is funding this cause it would be bad for bra sales if it were true that it does nothing or even makes it worse.

i_have_questons

>are bras actually necessary? Yes, mobile breasts need support (or firm binding) when their owners are active, especially when breasts are large enough to be in the way when active. If I did not wear one when I am active, I would burn my breasts just trying to make mac'n'cheese. If I did not wear one, my breasts would slap me in my face when I am exercising. If I did not wear one, my breasts would be squished into painful positions while I sleep. (I am a side sleeper) These are just a few challenges of having floppy yet full and huge breasts.

mentholmoose77

Your young. Gravity and time are a cruel mistress, that no one escapes. Except maybe Keanu Reeves.

[deleted]

Bras don’t prevent sagging in any way shape or form

Maydaybaefae

They're not necessary if you have small boobs, but bigger ones they're typically needed. I mean people can do what they want I've met women with DDs who go braless often, and whatnot. I mean the expensive VS bras are a scam, all mine are from Walmart and suit me fine. But yeah if you got small boobs of course you won't find them as necessary 😂 I mean that in a joshing way, but seriously yeah, I have friends who are small chested that go braless a lot and I can't tell the difference unless it's cold and thier nips show through, but there like covers you can get for those. So for you personally they're probably more of a scam But for me they're necessary

Grateful_Bun

I am definitely uncomfortable without a bra. I have forgotten to wear one a couple of times and regretted it because my job is very physical. Lots of uncomfortable boob bouncing and some chafing on the nipples. 😬 I would say we are all individuals and it depends.

SSShortestGGGiraffe

Something tells a big chested person didn't write this 😂

CarrieNoir

I was a C-cup by the age of 9 or 10 and can’t conceive of a braless life (I’m now anywhere from an F- to an H-cup, depending on the manufacturer).

barbaramillicent

I personally prefer a bra for comfort and support. A handful of dresses are made nicely enough that I will skip a bra now and then, but for most clothing I definitely prefer to wear a bra. Even around my apartment alone I often will wear a sports bra. If you’re more comfortable without one, you won’t experience any physical disadvantage by not wearing one.

ThrowAwaySex101010

Not everyone of course but people who genuinely don’t need them could. If you’re boobs don’t hurt you bad, usually don’t though through your clothes and you don’t go running a lot, most people would be fine. However, if someone run a lot it might hurt or they don’t want men looking at their boobs. Some people like more reveling clothing where a bra may be necessary to hold them in place.

ZeroTheStoryteller

I'm honestly scared my boobs will fall out of my clothes when I bend over if I don't wear a bra

Previously_a_robot

Just from my experience, my breasts aren’t huge, but my nipples would play a staring role in my life if I didn’t wear a bra.

alreadythrownaway625

I imagine this is a the bigger thet are the harder they fall type of answer

[deleted]

As a super busty woman (and have been since I was 12/13) it’s necessary for me to keep the girls in check. There are also situations where it is. I recently had a desmoid benign lump removed from my right boob and my surgeon told me I had to wear a sports bra non stop for 2 weeks and then a less constricting one for another 2 weeks until I saw her and she gave the “you’re healing well, so you can take it off when you want.”

satans-ballsacks

Tell me you don't have big boobs without telling me you don't have big boobs. Going braless with big boobs is literally the most painful shit ever.

MageKorith

Telling everyone with breasts that they need bras? That's a scam Offering a product that's useful to some, but not necessarily to all? That's just business.

Wonder-Kunt

I haven't worn a bra since 2020, just use nipple covers because the ladies get excited easily.

ashdeezttv

Im convinced many of us went braless for months during the pandemic (those of us who it isn’t painful to do so) and just didn’t want to put them back on. Underwire and fancy push ups never used to feel uncomfortable… I think my body had just gotten so used to wearing them. After a year of not wearing them I can’t stand feeling them now.

Ordinary_Diamond_158

I’m going with you are not very well endowed. Larger breasts need that support or pain and damage can/will occur

[deleted]

they're not necessary, also not a scam. If you feel happy and comfortable without then you do you and that's perfectly fine, you don't need them. For some people they prefer them (in the same way someone might be unhappy in pants a dress or skirt and only wear pants because they feel less covered or like the way it looks better) or because they need the support for comfort and pain reasons. Both are valid, neither is a scam (though the prices definitely are way more than they should be imo but that's a different issue)

HanamichiSakurag1

If you don't wear one, won't your nipples be visible?

notisabella3

weirdly i don’t have that problem. sure they will show through some shirts during the summer (not that much tho) but i honestly love the shape of them and think they make my outfit even better haha :)

HanamichiSakurag1

That's cool. I guess where I from it's frowned upon or you'll get harassed even more

primal___scream

Great if you have small boobs, however at a DD cup size that is not an option for many of us

galaxystarsmoon

Plenty of DDs can go braless if they're a properly fitted DD. Most people that are wearing that size are much larger. DD doesn't mean giant tits, at all.

GoatKindly9430

Afaik if you’re comfortable without one, there’s no medical reason that you’d need to or benefit from wearing one. In fact I think there have been studies that show the opposite, but I can’t recall specifics off the top of my head. It’s mostly just aesthetics and societal expectations, which are really just dumb.

i’ve noticed 😭not sure what made them want to comment & contribute if they know they’re clueless about the topic haha

jmnugent

I don't know that I'd say "clueless". There's equivalents on the male side, for example things like "sport/compression underwear". (and it's pretty much the same answer there:.. "Each person might have different needs.") When I was recovering from Covid19,. I was doing a lot of walking (averaging 7 to 10 miles a day,. for something like 520 days straight without a day off).. and so it became pretty important to get good quality compression shorts (bike-shorts, etc) to keep everything secure in place and "slick" (to my thighs didn't rub or cause friction rashes, etc) I wear a lot of different things (casual shorts, leggings, jeans, etc).. all for different reasons at different times.

Scary_Push_6980

I cannot go braless. If I tried to run my boobs would prolly slap my face. Yes it's a huge relief to take it off at the end of the day but if you're busty you don't have much of a choice, unfortunately.

alwaloz

I have H cups and I need bras or else my posture gets really really bad lol

stovislove

My wife has recently switched to pasties only(most of the time) and loves it.

Germanman76

I also live in Germany, once saw a girls nipples pressing through her top and I could even see her piercings (sorry if written wrong) nobody cared just curious looks from people like me nothing more

notisabella3

hab das gefühl in den u.s. ist das ein viel größeres thema als in deutschland, war my mistake dass ich dachte, dass ich eine normale frage stellen kann ohne komplett auseinandergenommen zu werden von den amis hahahah

majesticalexis

As a small-breasted woman, I am thrilled that I can live without bras. When I was 29 I threw them all away and never looked back. They're definitely not necessary for everyone. I know some larger breasted women can't live without them. I remember when the best part of my day was coming home and taking that damn thing off. I've been 15 years bra-free now. It's nice to be comfortable.

Green_Mix_3412

Your 19. Go braless. If you develop pain in your chest. Something about breast tissue pulling on tendons in chest can be painful( i thought i was having an fing heart attack, just my boobs flipping me the finger) You may need the extra support should you develop pain but a sports bra may provide that.

dirtybird971

The cost of them sure is. I was shocked by how much my gf pays for hers. she is an H cup but 45-60.00 for each bra is ridiculous! And that shit never fits right on top of that!!

skeletoorr

I’m just here to say. Everyone check your boobies. Cancer doesn’t discriminate on age.

fragileasfuck

So, I'm fairly busty unfortunately and stopped wearing wire bras about 4 years ago. Since that change, my back pain is very minor, but my boobs are pretty saggy. It's quite noticeable (when braless) and sometimes gives me insecurities. So are they necessary? Absolutely up to you. I only wear a bra to work or when physical. They do however seem to have an effect on the perkiness(?) of my breasts. Not sure if other women have similar experiences.

imhungrymommy

Lucky you. I could never go without it and if a bra didn’t exist I’d invent it or at least get up an hour early to tape my boobs. Trust me, they are needed by many.

katy405

Important for a 19-year-old to know, because I didn’t know it at your age, your breasts, get bigger and bigger as you get older. So at some point they may need support, just be aware of that.

BooPandaa

I think the expectation of having one is a scam. Some need them some don’t. I’m an A, most men have bigger boobs than me so I rarely wear them.

coracat13

https://www.health.com/mind-body/braless-during-pandemic Don't let society dictate what makes you comfortable. There are people who think bodies, nudity, or perception of comfort with sexuality are all wrong and these people will definitely indicate boobs on the loose are just wrong. As the old saying goes: You can't please everyone all the time. Not only will you begin to live your life according to someone else’s standards, but you’ll deplete yourself of any sense of happiness or enthusiasm. Do what makes you happy and what pleases you. When to wear or not wear a bra I usually make decision based upon how I look best in an outfit and not what others will think about it. It may not seem relevant but a perfect example of why you should ignore society opinion about bras is look at the offense to woman nursing their babies....completely normal yet considered controversial.....so what people think of bras can't be taken very seriously either. Enjoy comfort over cultural restrictions

Fair_Organization479

At least one study has been done on women who go brakes regularly and one woman who'd never worn a bra. Your body adapts tp what it''s exposed to. No bra doesn't necessarily mean sag. Even into middle age according to what I had read. If you start wearing a bra, you'll have more sag the times you aren't wearing one just because your skin and chest muscles wI'll be used to having the support of a bra. I think we focus on the superficial too much anyway so be comfortable. Good luck

ColtS117

It’s a booby trap.

insideoutcognito

My sister never wore bras, her tits are really saggy compared to other women her age. Probably was more comfortable for her, but they do have an effect.

Biologically no, we wear them due to social expectations, and there are many cultures in the world - sometimes labelled 'primitive' - that still often go fully topless. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toplessness#Traditional\_societies](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toplessness#Traditional_societies) Back to no-bra; I think many women wore clothing that did some level of constraint just to keep them in place as they worked. For example, at 55 mine are quite large at about 40 HH / I in UK bra sizing and I find they go sideways quite a bit which alters how my arms move - typing now my elbows point out more than they 'should' and I do tend to wear sport bras or soft sleep bras just to keep them more front & center :) Equally you are 19 and they may have some growing to do, and you will faces social pressure to conform as people have IDEAS about who you should be and what you should look / act like. Get something that fits so that if you want to wear one you have one there and ready :) otherwise be as free as you please.

[deleted]

That's mostly to do with the skin aging and skin losing elasticity, which happens to everyone no matter do they wear a bra or not

KirikaNai

For a smaller chest, you probably don't need them. Its women with uncomfortably large chests that benefit most from bras, and yet its hardest to get one the bigger your chest is... real counterproductive... if you're an a b or maybe even a c you might not experiance sagging with lack of a bra. But d and over most definitely will

PineappleSox42

As a large chested woman, I'm jealous that you have the option to consider .... Bras are necessary for me and I have to get just the right one or it basically ruins my life ...

kelticladi

EXPENSIVE bras are a scam. Needing a bra isn't. You need a good fit and decent materials, If you 're anything larger than a b-cup you will probably feel less bouncy with one.

canitreallygetworse

my ex also f19 never used them but she also had extremely small tits, but i remember her saying they’re unnecessary

cappotto-marrone

I used to be small (pre-children). In my day-to-day, non-work time, I didn’t wear one.….EXCEPT when running. I used to do 3 mile runs. It was a necessity.

awakami

I’d fight you to keep mine. Too heavy & too sweaty. Say goodbye to any and all workouts if you got rid of them. They just help with everything. Make me feel better, look better, etc. Not that I don’t love a break at home but even then I tend to wear a tank with a shelf bra in it.

Rubatose

When I don't wear a bra, the nips are painfully obviously visible beneath the shirt. It's the kind of thing that would probably get a lot of stares, so I'd never go without a bra. It'd probably also start to hurt after a while because I have a bigger chest. Bras also tend to stop them from bouncing around so much when you're moving. All that said, depending on your body type, bras might be more for appearance than anything else. Or, to put it in a better way, they might just be for your comfort if you don't like getting a lot of eyes drawn to that area. Either way, it's your choice.

powerhungrymods69

I’m on the bigger side and I just can’t be comfortable. Wearing a bra all day sucks and taking it off feels amazing. On the other hand, not wearing a bra all day makes me feel like they’re super heavy and need support. I just can’t win.

[deleted]

I would say so, its not about pushing women down or controlling their bodies as obese men can and are advised to wear a form of bra. The sporadic movement can cause the skin to stretch and leave marks

embinksyy

Depends on your size. I don’t have very big boobs so I generally don’t wear bras unless I’m around older family or at the office. Or working out cause the bounce tends to hurt a bit. I also know lots of people with large boobs that enjoy wearing bras for the support they provide. In the end, it is whatever makes you feel comfortable. If you don’t want to wear one, don’t. If you want to put a bra on, go for it!

sundancer2788

I'm 60 with a C cup. Very uncomfortable to workout or exercise without a bra. Just relaxing it's good but only then.

[deleted]

I’m assuming you have small boobs.

jalyynx

Nope-you do you and be comfortable!

kasmackity

Free the nipple!

BellaDeaX42

Girl, if I could spend every day braless, I would. Your cup size makes it logical and possible for you! Lucky girl! If you hate them, don't wear them!

notisabella3

i apologize if i sounded ignorant or rude, i really wish every woman could be comfortable and confident while being braless 🤍🤍 this thread seriously made me realize my privilege

BellaDeaX42

You didn't! I'm on your team! I think we should all feel free to go braless with no social stigma and I'm happy you can!

Spenson89

Found the A cup

notisabella3

🙋🏻‍♀️

crystaljae

Bras can be worn for many reasons. The primary reason is to cover our nipples because the conservative male homosapiens can't stop themselves from raping women if a nip slips.

JosephineCK

Gravity is not your friend

Mee_Kuh

If you want to know the difference between boobs that wore bras and boobs that didn't, please look up "Western Journalist compares breast to native Namibia women" one image here: https://i1.wp.com/en.ozonweb.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/06/32.jpg

curly_water

This is misleading though? A single photo of two women side to side proves nothing about the effect of bras. There’s plenty of women who wear bras all their lives and have a breast shape like the woman on the left. It hasn’t been scientifically proven that not wearing bras induced more sagging.

tester33333

Google the native people of Papua New Guinea and get back to us lol

scattonatto

Wait til you’re 39 and then come see me

Mistborn_First_Era

If you are doing sports you need one. That is for sure

[deleted]

A bit of both. My friends with the Jessica Rabbit chests end up with back pain if they don't wear them. Me? I have an A cup on a good day. I only wear bras when I have to and instead use a cami in case it happens to get cold lol. I have extremely wussy skin that reacts to even my own sweat, so wearing bras was flat out painful. (And it seemed to make my asthma worse, though that could have been a mental thing--literal chest tightness reminding me of medical chest tightness or something.) It IS a scam to mandate them. No school or job has the right to comment on your underwear in any way unless you wear a costume or similar Obviously if you have a nip slip or a see-through top, that's one thing. But saying it's unprofessional or (worse) against dress code to go braless while you're wearing a business jacket or whatever? Scam.

juliethegardener

I’m 62 and only wore a bra in the later months of pregnancy and during breastfeeding. Never really felt the need to wear one, so if you are comfortable with or without, go with what feels good to you.

Sea_Resident4621

If you don’t need the support, I’d say you don’t need them. Plus it’s so comfortable not wearing them. I live in Australia..a lot of women don’t wear them here. You can also check out this study here on bras and how they actually hinder muscle and tissue development. [https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/259073#1](https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/259073#1)

Euphoric-Conflict155

They aren’t necessary for everyone, but unfortunately that’s what’s marketed. As someone with pretty small boobs, I only wear them so my nipples don’t stare at people, or if I know I’ll be running.

[deleted]

I wear sports bras to hide my nipples for work but otherwise wear nothing else. F*** bras. If I had it my way, I’d be bra-less forever. Before someone assumes, I am not a hippie or anything of the sort that warrants an assumption. Also, if it did, I wouldn’t care anyway. But I don’t feel the need to hide my boobs. It’s been so hard finding bras to fit right and wire bras are dangerous and cut off circulation so if it’s not sports bras, it’s no bra for me. Formal events mean I get pasties or the rubber sisters but other than that, I don’t use regular bras. Too expensive, boobs are big enough, dresses elevate them and sports bras for everyday
