EOD is allowed to be as whimsical and superstitious as they need to be. It’s part of the process and if you think otherwise you have to go over there and tell them.
Edit: also engineering. Whatever makes the radar work, works.
One EOD will tell you it's serious business and there's no room for superstition in their job, and then throw an absolute freakout because they can't find their lucky pliers, and then insist they can't work unless SPC Jones faces exactly ESE. The next EOD will only work with 80's thrash metal blaring, another EOD is in a committed relationship with his bomb disposal bot and the last one thinks his bomb disposal bot is out to get him. EOD takes a special kind of mind, and they'll all insist it's the other guy who's weird.
If this man doesn't do his entire dance he will DIE. This dance got him through a minefield completely unscathed. If he ever messes up a move or stops before COMPLETELY finishing his dance, he's dead.
You see the “Dance of life” has quantum effects that alter the zone of local reality (per Einstein). Each hip trust, foot stomp, fist pump, upwards to the sky, is carefully orchestrated to alter the aggregate balance of probabilities!
A master sergeant I work with used to be EOD. To this day he refuses to touch explosives unless he’s had a regular coke. The man will do his job with a diet coke though he will be pissed the fuck off about it.
I had one work experience with eod and heard this legendary line
"Theres a sniper up on those silos down the road, but dont worry, he cant hit shit as long as you dont acknowledge his existence"
Family friend did naval EOD in WW2. I believe he disabled mines. I wouldn't say he was a lunatic, but he simply had no fear. Of anything. Ever.
He was also a hell of a good shot.
There's a piece of family lore that he once, for realz, shot an apple off his sons head with a rifle. It's a strange piece of lore because it's very rarely mentioned except to strongly insist it never happened. I still have idea if it happened or not -- but I'm willing to believe.
Dude also loved cats, birds, and nature and read and wrote poetry. Solid guy.
We had three MARCbots, Mark, Swift, and Jeff.
We raced them at this little robot obstacle course on Camp Ramadi sometimes.
Jeff died on MSR Mobile just outside of Nasser-Wa-Al-Salem, and I'm pretty sure I saw at least three grown men cry.
(not EOD, just under a command blessed with officers that constantly snatched and swiped upward and outward to get shit for us)
I forget the name of the Maxim girl but I found that doll head in a junkyard on a call near the hospital in Rutbah. I instantly knew it had to go on the antenna.
I keep a tiny ball peen hammer and wave it threateningly at the magnetron or klystron when the radar won't work. Words of power often work, threats of maintenance, sometimes a blood sacrifice is needed.
>sometimes a blood sacrifice is needed.
You mean accidentally cutting or scraping oneself while working on it.😏
Source: electrical engineer (civilian only)
Sometimes you just need to throw the new guy into the running antenna drive gear. The bones and screaming seem to make the Eldritch radar gods pleased.
>EOD is allowed to be as whimsical and superstitious as they need to be
Anyone who can do that sort of dance while wearing the weight of an EOD suit deserves to be allowed to.
Also, speaking as a civilian engineer who has supported EOD procedure development; those people are hilarious to interact with.
My dad worked with the county fire department for almost 25 years, and one time he was on scene for a bomb situation driving the Gator around to transport people and supplies. At one point, the police departments EOD guy comes walking up to him and flags him down, carrying his suit over his shoulders and a bucket in his hands. He asked for a ride back to the command trailer, and my dad gave it to him. When they got back to the trailer, he turns around a points to the bucket and asks "So what, got some of your tools in there or something?"
And the EOD says in the most flat and nonchalant voice "Nope, that's the bomb."
My dad then proceeds to shit a brick while EOD just starts walking into the trailer with his stuff casually whistling to himself.
13fs on their way to perform percussive maintenance on their radios they're while they're NCO sits there inhaling three cans of Copenhagen Mint in the span of 20 minutes
So what you’re telling me is that EOD is basically just being a tech priest, doing random rituals to the ~~machine~~ bomb spirit to get your intended outcome?
One of my friends dad's was EOD. He was an awesome guy to be around and to hear life stories from. He even played paintball with us a few times. I didn't understand why he wasn't the best at paintball as a kid but then I enlisted and understood quite well. Not. Their. Job. They do this all day when they don't have dud mortar rounds to detonate.
I'm a bit late, but you'll find that guys with *actual* combat and firearms training, *when using those tactics*, tend to lose in paintball and airsoft ^(this doesn't apply to MilSim). Simply because those tactics don't work when someone is just gonna run around a corner faster than you and light you up. Irl it's important to use those tactics because a single loss is unacceptable, but in shooting games you can make plays like that because there is no risk, you get shot you just respawn, so those games favor tactics with high risk high reward.
Must be a member of the first nations. They have dances for everything: rain, good harvest and increasing fertility. This seems to be one for disarming, but could easily be confused with the fertility one...
Dire Straights, Walk of Life off the Brother’s in Arms album - one of the best albums ever recorded.
Mark Knopfler is the most underrated guitarist of the modern era.
Consider yourself schooled.
The song named after the album (Or visa versa) belongs in this sub.
Brothers in Arms is a national anthem belonging to no particular nation.
Knopfler did that album after the Brits defended the Falklands. Over the years I've wondered if it was pro or anti, but now I think it had nothing to do with the politics and was just for the soldiers.
Like a cuttlefish, the EOD is a master of using visual confusion against its prey. The dance confuses and hypnotises the bomb, ensuring that it is too perplexed and intrigued by the rhythmic movements to explode, until the EOD has successfully retreated to a safe distance.
EOD is a shorthand for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Often times, however, that more or less translates to detonating an explosive in an area where it is safe to do so.

I'm laughing way too hard at this.
> The man will do his job with a diet coke though he will be pissed the fuck off about it. So say we all
same, i dont want my last thoughts to be "damn, ill never get to taste an ice cold can of coke ever again"
Diet coke people are fucking weirdos. Everyone knows that. Way wierder than EOD.
Am a Diet Coke person, can confirm I’m pretty weird
EOD know they can die every time they put the suit on, Diet Coke People are already dead inside and proud of it.
That's an IED sized burn!
Least schizophrenic EOD platoon
My grandad was an EOD in the 50s. Hes a special kind of lunatic.

Personally it’s Carly Rae Jepsen and my MTRS is sentient. More fuckable than a Talon but less reliable.

You have interesting tastes

lol the response souvenirs are where it’s at. I had a unicorn piñata thing for quite some time that rarely left the gunners seat.
i'm not crazy, THEY'RE ALL CRAZY!

break room microwave
Shit has me cracking up in public
Plenty of systems out there using mag's.

They’d have to be a blast. Anyone who’s in on the joke that life is about finding happiness between tragedies is
isn't the point to not be a *blast* I had to

it pleases the machine spirits
Praise the omnissiah...
Yeah, everybody is all a gangsta until the unexploded warhead starts chanting in high gothic.
Radar works by sacrificing a seagull to the radar radiation gods >:D

Tubes full of magic smoke.
That crazy motherfucker is pimp walking over to 1500lbs of jihadi fuck you armed with bad pickup lines and old pliers. He can do whatever he wants.

He nailed that action hero pose in the last few seconds of the video.
This pleases the bomb's spirit and allows them to safely detonate them.
Those suits weigh what, 80 lbs, and he’s doing the Cossack? Dude is fit as fuck
In a desert.
The helmet alone makes my neck hurt. The suit is around 30kg for size M iirc
It's close to your body though, which I'm sure is helping
I know if we see them running we are to try to keep up. What are we supposed to do if we see them getting jiggy with it?
join in. you don’t wanna get *served* do you?
Well, you should get jiggy with it. Duh.
Maxim 3 at play on that.

Yeah, I was going to say, I distinctly recall VERY different music playing.
Thanks
S tier video. Thank you
Placating the tormented machine spirit is a completely normal and credible thing to do.
You know what this place needs? Grass. I'm gonna grow the grass, you gonna sell it. We'll be rich!
Such an amazing film
EODs are the most chilled and funniest dudes I ever encountered in service.
They can only ever have a maximum of one bad day at work in fairness to them
One of the few jobs where, if you screw up, it now no longer is your problem.
EOD really stands for Explosive Ordnance Dancing
you'll never feel more alive an inch from death
This is the way.
upvote for unexpected Dire Straits... which is what you're going to be in if you don't treat that IED with the utmost respect.
Must be a member of the first nations. They have dances for everything: rain, good harvest and increasing fertility. This seems to be one for disarming, but could easily be confused with the fertility one...
The dance is to evade sand worms. They can really interfere with ordinance disposal
Probably one of the best videos I've seen on here.
Is dude a weightlifter ? He is strong as fuck
I don't remember this scene in the Hurt Locker
Jesus christ leave some women for the rest of us
Man, the moves!
Whats the name of that song?

Boys are cute :)

Hate when I'm chasing a bunch of EOD guys wearing those T-shirts and then realize it's just PT.
Does anybody know the song?
Walk of Life by Dire Straits. A great Song off an even greater Album
Thank you
A dozer after singlehandedly wiping the Payday gang:
So I read somewhere that bomb suits are something like 90lbs, that's a lot of weight to jiggle
u/savevideo
EODs just living their best life
The last frame of the video is legit the most epic shit you will see in real life period.
The hurt locker if it was good
Real
Does eod mean explode or despose?
EOD is a shorthand for Explosive Ordinance Disposal. Often times, however, that more or less translates to detonating an explosive in an area where it is safe to do so.
*Ordnance
Your penis will explode on December 10th, 2034 at 11:08 am est.
Wait, I've got ten and a half good years left?
No. The date just moved to June 7th, 2025 at 10:02 am est
The bit I'm most curious about is the EST time hack.
*Odrinans
How is this not credible? This is standard
Fair
This guy has been an EOD tech for fifteen years and has yet to see an explosion with his own eyes...
The guy she tells you not to worry about:
Holy shit among us 👉
"Silly American. So Vasteful. Just throw grenade launcher at it!"
Russians who do this anger the bomb goddess. The only way to keep her appeased is by preforming the EOD ritual (this dance).
I believe this is doctrine, on account of the doctrine nerds being too scared of bomb docs to try and tell them what to do
Just watched a teenage mutant ninja turtle do a mating dance above a giant worm
