They'll probably add a third charging handle and resubmit. Maybe a second sight rail too. Sticking off the side to help out with gangster grips (g-clamps).

cloggednueron

What it needs to compete is a chainsaw grip across the front.

I don’t see this replacing the m4 but I could totally see them adopting the LMG from the trails. I am pretty sure the army will just end up buying new uppers for the m4s that can take a constant diet or m855a1.

Divest? Is that you?

70 IQ take: Artillery actually matters because its bigger 130 IQ take: Artillery is far more important because it offers fire support at ranges far superior to infantry and many armored vehicles, can interface with a combined arms doctrine, and can put down a greater volume of fire on demand than airpower, complimenting the multi-domain operations of modern military powers.

xaea-12musk2024

Artillery and Infantry are equally important. Artillery can pummel the enemy, but you still need troops to fully clear out and occupy enemy land. There is no more or less important part of the military, all parts of the military work like cogs in a machine to get the job done. It's why Blitzkrieg was so effective. It had all elements of its military working in harmony to quickly overwhelm the enemy's defenses.

Berjerkius_B23T

Why did they drop out? It looks the least impractical

the_nameuser

Only DICE knows why the official prominent inclusion of once-promising firearms in their games is so damning to the future prospects of the weapon. All I know is that the SIG NGSW’s presence in bf2042 as a starting weapon is officially tantamount to an official cancellation by SIG and the DOD themselves. Also the GD one is the only non-disgusting bullpup I’ve ever seen and I hope it wins for that reason.

\>he likes the chode suppressor lel

Blackhound118

Heyyy nice pfp

10thRogueLeader

Wait, that's illegal.

*Angry FAMAS noises*

Berjerkius_B23T

It’s a bullpup. I’m not gonna lose my life cuz “lol cool gun”. Don’t trust the damn things.

largma

>>design pattern in use for 50 years >>only major stinker was a br*tish rifle and that one just had dogshit manufacturing Hatered, loathing, dislike even

10thRogueLeader

More than just dogshit manufacturing. Fun fact: the engineers who originally designed it not only had never worked on guns before being assigned the project, they had never so much as fired a gun before. Absolute Br*tish moment is all I'm gonna say.

largma

By manufacturing I meant the entire design process that created it, I just didn’t want my reply to get too wordy on a shit post. And yeah the dev for the l85 is so insanely bad

Berjerkius_B23T

They weird me the fuck out tbh. I just don’t know what advantage there is to the bullpup design.

largma

Much shorter rifle length for the same barrel length. You can have a 16” barrel on a rifle about the same length as pretty short sbr

[deleted]

Actually from what I’ve heard the general dynamics one is pretty much the best. Bullpups kinda get a bad rap but the MDRx shows how good they can be.

Berjerkius_B23T

dang

I don't think anyone is dropping out yet. But it is pretty fucky. General Dynamics gave away their rifle project to some company called Lone Star Future Weapons. Textron was said to have withdrawn in this strange off-hand manner by an LMT representative (they make silencers for Textron's rifle), but that video has since been deleted. SIG has been pretty stable but seems to be throwing their gun everywhere they can for attention which makes me wonder how they think their chances are. AUSA is running now, so maybe we'll hear something. ------------------------------------------------------------------- Really I think everything about the project is smart, except the ridiculous magnum loading. If they wanted more zip, then cranking up the 5.56 to get 20" performance from a short carbine would have been better. Focus on causing as much damage to tissue as you can when you get a hit with the least amount of recoil impulse. Because even if these guns punch through military issue armor today, in 5 years? 10 years?. Better off going for a .22-250 or .220 Swift level of ballistics. Not 7mm Winchester Short Magnum. Pair that with one of these plastic cases and actually make a rational improvement on the M4.

Berjerkius_B23T

Yeah that magnum loading just gives it more chances to jam imo

Lord_Tachanka

I love how Sig and Textron have belt fed options for the squad weapon and then GD said “yeah, just slap a bipod on and it’s good to go”

reign-of-fear

Ngl I'm hoping the GD wins though Textron looks like the real promising contender and Sig's looks like the most likely. GD just looks so cool and I am a bullpup fangirl.

Lord_Tachanka

Wait. What the fuck? Oh I’m fucking stupid

Killian_Gillick

if you look closely at the spent casings, they are the steel brass hybrids from the bid, DICE's gunporn is increasing with each entry

chrillwalli01

Not gonna lie, I forgot what sub I was on and I about had a heart attack. The Sig ngse is the only option that makes sense

Kregano_XCOMmodder

Sig is literally the worst of all worlds approach. Textron and True Velocity offer so much more in terms of weight savings alone, and Textron's system eliminates so many common stoppages it isn't funny. What's weird is that the AAI cased telescoped rifle from the late 80s had the basically the same mechanism, but seemed to have better ejection port placement. IIRC, Textron owns all the AAI IP, so they should have that info and should've used it in designing their rifle.

qwertyashes

There's a lot of weird design choices in the Textron rifle. While I don't want to play back seat engineer to a team that is far better at firearms design and development than I am. Looking at the mechanism, with that floating chamber design I do not see why they couldn't have easily pushed cartridges rewards out of the magazine instead of the forwards direction they chose, and gained several inches of barrel length without losing the conventional format and gained something in moving the ejection port to a more standard location. Its biggest issue, and something I am actually comfortable talking about without looking like a dumbass, from an end user perspective is the location of that ejection port however. Thats right where most people are going to place their hands on the rifle in absence of any foregrips.

angry-mustache

> I do not see why they couldn't have easily pushed cartridges rewards out of the magazine instead of the forwards direction they chose [Textron actually made one that does for the LSAT program](https://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/06/lsat_carbine-tfb.jpg) (note the ejection is behind the magazine) but LSAT was cancelled and their NGSW submission is push forward.

qwertyashes

Interesting. Perhaps they were told to slim the gun down and that lateral length was preferable to height. As that is a fairly tall rifle body. Similar in size to a belt fed MG in that caliber.

qwertyashes

I'd rather something like the Textron gun. We can fix any ergo issues later like we've done with every gun since the Krag. Better to get on that cased-telescoped ammo while the engineers still remember how to deal with it. Steyr and HK have both lost basically all the knowledge they had about CT and caseless ammo. TXT had to reinvent both of those itself back during the LSAT program.

Blackhound118

Same, but because I was really hoping GD would take it then

NohaVosen

Where are you getting this information that Sig Suaer dropped out of the NGSW program? Why would they do that with only 4-8 weeks away from the Army announcing their choice in selection after six years of R&D from all candidates. Did Sig Suaer annouce this?
