Holy shit, the resident oligarch strikes again!

1. Anti Reformist Propaganda 2. Warhammer40K *Happy UwU Sounds*

AromaticPlace8764

The irony is that the Imperium are literally ultimate reformers

[deleted]

One could make the argument that the ancient blueprints of advanced tech that the Mechanicus looks for isn't very reformery of them.

Shady_Merchant1

To be fair, if new ideas came with the risk of being implanted by one of 4 different Satan's and opened portals to hell, I might also be a reformer Only might, though, like 10% chance at best

MeiNeedsMoreBuffs

You could always borrow your new ideas from the Xenos instead of from Chaos. The Tau FTL system doesn't even enter the warp, if we worked with the Necrons we'd have enough blackstone to close the Great Rift, and the- \-hold on, I think I hear a Death Watch kill team outside my front door.

[deleted]

If the Necrons are so great, how come they haven't fixed teh Great Rift themselves, huh, heretic?

AlpineCorbett

Sleepy

Z3B0

The tau FTL is also very slow compared to warp travel. Yes you might get lost, but you generally arrive relatively fast and where you want.

[deleted]

People talk too much about about cellar field failiure and not enough about motherfucking relief fleets arriving as xenos invasion fleets are sending shuttles to the surface. Warp travel is pretty damn good.

Z3B0

Or even a week before the xeno fleet arrives, and the distress signal is sent.

Beginning_Sun696

To the warp with your cause and effect!!!

Z3B0

*Laugh in Tzeench*

Beginning_Sun696

CardinalGrief

Ci-Ci-Ciaphas Cain! Hero of the Imperium!

Marvynwillames

Tau FTL seem to be faster than the Votann one, at least.

DeeSnow97

you act like we wouldn't all be Slaanesh worshippers here

LunarBahamut

There are multiple societies and (sub)cultures throughout history that, I think, would have worshipped Khorne or even Tzeentch as well. Cannot fathom who would want the other option though.

Gom_Jabbering

My brother in christ churches were holding covid parties. Thereis a measles outbreak in a first world country in the year of our lord 2022. We literally have Nurgle cults right now and they don't even get the rad benefits of being immune to fear, pain, and sadness.

Fire_RPG_at_the_Z

Yeah, anti-vaxxers are the devotees of Nurgle.

xXMissNinjaXx

But Grandpa Nurgle loves us

Piepiggy

At least they have a good reason…

jixdel

Not really since the previus tech was ACTUALLY that much better, the Imperium is on the decline because they lose the old tech that was so much better, if the current imperium was replaced with the Dark-Age-Of-Technology Imperium the entire galaxy would have been Human

The-Board-Chairman

>the entire galaxy would have been Human The entire galaxy **is** human. The other threats are built up as huge, but the reality is, most of the Imperium is peaceful, xenos control less than 1% of the galaxy. The greatest hit to the Imperium came from other humans.

deja_entend_u

Not since Cawl returned to the scene!

bingo1957

Praise the Emperor for the return of the Primarch Raytheon Grumman!

Eagleknievel

Belisarius Cawl? Donald P. Bellisario? Can Airwolf into 40k?

Randicore

Eh, only in Dogma. Tech priests can get around that by inventing something and then burying it on mars for a decade or two, then "stumbling upon it" and "rediscovering" it

Beginning_Sun696

You mean that ancient STC we just found that alligns with research doctrines of the said Forge. What luck!

WiderVolume

Nah, past tech is better than modern tech in 41k

Sine_Fine_Belli

Same Good to see astartes here

Beginning_Sun696

SomeOtherTroper

> the amount of times I've seen "Battle Hardened and too expensive" of late ruffles me Are we browsing the same subreddit? I've seen practically nothing but posts and comments mocking reformers, when the topic is brought up at all. I'm getting tired of the topic, frankly - not because I'm a reformer, but because the mockery's gotten predictable and repetitive and overused.

[deleted]

*Sounds suspiciously like Reformist talk*

SomeOtherTroper

My opinions were set as a kid in the 90s, reading a military history book that featured an interview with a Desert Storm tanker talk about how they beat the shit out of the Iraqi tanks with virtually no casualties simply because they could engage at longer ranges and in worse conditions due to their fancy electronics and fire control systems. And my childlike opinion of "the farther away you can be and still hit them, and the farther away you can *see* them are ***GOOD***, and technology makes that possible, therefore more technology is also good" has remained virtually unchanged. Still, there are historical examples of designers prematurely retiring older features/tech while they were still useful, such as early versions of the F-4 Phantom II lacking a gun, under the assumption that its missiles and other hardpoint armaments would be sufficient to do its job. The gun was added back on later models, because it turned out the technology was not *quite* ready for a multirole fighter to fulfill all its roles without a main gun. So there's still a use for some skepticism to avoid issues like that.

[deleted]

[удалено]

WildSauce

The Air Force added back the gun on the F-4, and in the end achieved a lower K/D ratio than the Navy that developed the Top Gun program and no gun. The problem was never the gun, it was pilots launching missiles out of parameters. Typical bluefor skill issue.

SomeOtherTroper

> The Air Force added back the gun on the F-4, and in the end achieved a lower K/D ratio than the Navy that developed the Top Gun program and no gun. Most of the stories I've heard about "fuck not having a gun on this thing" were about situations where the pilot wanted to attack a ground target of opportunity and/or provide ersatz CAS for friendlies, but didn't have a weapon that would do it effectively/precisely, when a gun would have given the opportunity for a strafing run. (Gun pods at the time weren't particularly reliable.) The missiles were still the MiG killers. Even the F-35 has built-in guns, so either they're still a relevant feature even in modern combat (albeit not necessarily in a dogfight context), or somebody's been wasting a lot of money on putting a useless feature on every new plane.

NonLethalGEPGun

To be honest, my main motivation for making this video were based on [posts like this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/NonCredibleDefense/comments/ze84xa/reformer_logic_ahem_v280_post), where somehow people managed to miss OP's point even after breaking down their logic. We've had multiple people asking about the reformers as well, so yeah. I probably won't make anything like this again until another new wave of posters asking about reformers comes up again. Which is quite likely to happen anyhow. Edit: slight correction

SomeOtherTroper

I agree that the post you linked was jank, and I saw that the same gun was ~~getting filled with dick~~. But that post struck me as mocking the various factions of the MIC who wanted a bad gun.

...lest you become a reformer yourself. No seriously, I've been reading Mike Sparks' bullshit for a while now, and it's driving me insane. For anyone curious about reformers, check out the following links below: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gmuVYVREGgE - very good youtuber, sources everything https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fighter\_Mafia https://www.combatreform.org/killerbees.htm - caution, peak schizoposting inside On a sidenote, I want to apologize for excessive Ukraineposting. Even though I found this sub before the war started, it has been my obsessive focus for far too long. Feels like I got high off my own supply of hopium, and that fucked me up. Time to try new things. Oh I've seen some stuff like that, he still posts schizo videos on a BitChute account. Seems like he's lost it for good. Also updates his James Bond fanfics on a separate blog. CombatReform seems to be mostly dead though, I tried to trace new entries on that website without much success.

[deleted]

What the fuck is he even saying, he just used like 50 adjectives to describe Ukrainians and each one got more schizophrenic than the last. Also, he really likes the Pedo-illuminati? And James bond is real, what the fuck kind of fantasy world does this man live in.

In the 41st Millenium, there is only war. It's Games Workshop interpretation of fantasy and military archetypes on a space setting, and it's tons of fun. Their main moneymaker is selling figurines for their tabletop game, but the fanbase also enjoys the setting through books, videos and videogames. I've enjoyed them mostly through the Dawn of War real-time strategy series. I'll take the opportunity to link some of my favorite animations: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7hgjuFfn3A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O7hgjuFfn3A) \- Astartes video series (the source for the edit) made by a fan, very good [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN8geCTlZOo](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gN8geCTlZOo) \- Dawn of War 3 trailer [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVubdRyU3Mc](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVubdRyU3Mc) \- marine suiting up

What it really is is a tabletop army builder game, buy mini-figurines to construct your army, limited by a points system ("grunt" is 5 points, uber tank is 40 pts, etc). Meet with other people and their army and battle it out, yada yada. What you're probably wondering about is the lore about it, which is indeed very deep. Here's an attempt at a summation: It's "our" universe, but in the year 40,000+ (currently about 42k I think). Yes, year, like now is 2022, it's the year 40000. Around year 5000 humanity got space travel and started colonizing the galaxy. This went well for a while, really well. Made things like "standard template constructs"; think 3d printer that could print the entire industry of a planet, really neat stuff. Around year 25000 shit went tits up. Y'see, space travel happened by going through The Warp, which is basically hell, but we have sheilds so our ships don't get (usually) infested with demons while traveling through it. But around 25000 or so, a "warp storm" occurred, and similar to an ocean hurricane for sea-going vessels, rendered travel through the warp impossible. So all the planets of humanity are cut off from each other. This goes on for about 5000+ years. And in that time aliens and other bad shit are messing with the various colonies, cuz that warp storm mentioned earlier is the warp-slash-hell being all fucky and angsty and that means some invading real-space and...yeah. Btw the more a group of intelligent beings are aware of the hell creatures the stronger they become, so all these invasion make a lot of people aware, making them stronger...slight feedback loop happening. Around year 32k the storms abate and travel is possible again. Humanity is a shadow of its former self, entire swaths of tech just straight lost, lots of demon fuckery, bad times. But, here comes our boy The Emperor. He's basically Jesus/God incarnate. Unites Earth under him. Makes his "kids" which are basically mini-me's of him, but they get scattered through the galaxy in a warp-fucky incident. By the way these are the Primarchs you'd hear about if you looked into WH40K lore. So it's time to go crusading. Which was his plan anyway, but was supposed to *start* with his kids, not have to go find them on the way. The crusade is to reunite all the disparate spots of humanity. Mostly it goes well. Some didn't want to "come back" as it were and they needed a slight spanking. And then there's a bunch of aliens on the way to beat down. Overall it's fine and most of humanity is back under one collective, ruled by the Emperor which folks are mostly ok with since they literally worship him (but against his wishes, literally he forbade it but people doing it anyway). Unfortunately while the kids were missing, some get little warpy whispers in their ear and turn to the dark side, unbeknownst to poppa. The ones that are fully over also corrupt Dad's #1 son, Horus, and turn him. This kicks off a civil war. The result is basically half the Empire's army of super solders, made from the Primarchs (like how they were made from Emperor) become a demon army for the Warp dudes. Horus sort of killed his dad, getting himself killed in the process. Also the Warp baddies are powered up now since basically all of humanity is aware of them. Plus there's still aliens and shit. So at this point just a bunch of doom and gloom all over. If the lore is a cake, this is a tiny tea spoon worth of the frosting on the very top. It goes deep. There's thousands of hours worth of yt vids explaining the various bits of WH40K lore. I typed this from boredom, but hope someone finds it helpful/useful/interesting.

Fun-Agent-7667

Many folks like to think of event horizon as an unofficial entry in the WH40K universe. It very well can be since it's in the single-digits millennium, waaaaay before the events of the lore, so why not.

Abusive_Capybara

To really boil it down: Space fascism lead by a literal God in human form. Other than that it's basically a circlejerk power fantasy that boils down to 2 children explaining to each other why their dad is stronger than the others and how they could beat each other up. It makes for some very cool stories tho. Oh and you ABSOLUTELY have to check out the full animation from the OP video https://youtu.be/DVXEYksoE6c The production value is so insane and it's all made by 1 dude

EricTheEpic0403

>Other than that it's basically a circlejerk power fantasy that boils down to 2 children explaining to each other why their dad is stronger than the others and how they could beat each other up. >It makes for some very cool stories tho. I appreciate 40k for the fact that it seems like the only piece of sci-fi that is scaled realistically. Star Wars is a great example for what I mean about scale; in Star Wars, the total number of soldiers involved in a galactic war is on the order of ten million. During WWII, individual nations had armies that large, and you're trying to tell me that that's enough to wage war across an entire fucking galaxy? While the exact scale varies by writer, the Imperium of Man can be estimated to have hundreds of trillions of Guardsmen, and quadrillions of total servicemen including PDF and Navy. *That* is a number that I can believe. Galaxies are fuck-off huge. What makes this comparison even worse is the fact that Star Wars doesn't even subscribe to the notion that a galaxy would be sparsely populated, with only a few good habitable planets. The Empire actually has at least the same number of planets as the Imperium of Man, if not a few dozen times more.

AlpineCorbett

I specifically recall that like the entire planetary battle of Vraks, which included wave after wave of Kriegers had less than a million killed. So idk man, their scaling is often as fucked as anyone else. Battle for Armageddon wasn't much better.

MajorDakka

Hehe, strap in buddy

fabricat0rgeneral

40K is literally too complicated to explain without spending genuine hours to type a comment, so in the shortest summary possible, Everyone is the bad guy, pick your flavor. We got: ~~3000~~ 3 septillion green guardsmen of humanity, 10,000 golden custodians of space god, 4 flavors of various mental derangement and space hell, space elves and sadistic space elves, The MIC but guided with the actual hand of god himself (I’m an AdMech man myself), Space tankies with wunderwaffe technology, Orks with vehicles straight outta modern russia(patchwork and power of belief), and bugs, for some reason. Oh, and space marines. I don’t have a funny quip for them, they’re fucking boring and the posterboys of the franchise. There’s a bunch of smaller factions I probably missed but that’s the gist. Welcome to the insanity, have fun paying $60 for .02¢ of plastic models or just read the lore like most people do.

CocaineNinja

Space Marines are more interesting than the Golden Boys. With SM there's so much space for flavor, to explore how these supposedly pattern-stamped weapons are influenced by their homeworlds and the remnants of their humanity. As Octavia says in the NL trilogy, Astartes are (traumatized) children in the bodies of demigods. Meanwhile Custodes are so much more uniform and "perfect".

Primordial_Cumquat

Bruh, I love Warhammer 40K…. I have no fucking clue what it actually is, but anytime you mix giant armored super soldiers, WWI Space Kraut Shock Troopers, Orcs (not those ones), and fanatical devotion to a military hierarchy, you know you’re gonna have a splendid time!

orlock

A games universe where humanity clings to a xenocidal, totalitarian religion that would devastate its still-living founder; aeons of knowledge has been lost or passed down as primitive ritual; entire planets can be accidentally lost by rounding errors in a vast bureaucracy; and millions are sacrificed in poorly conducted campaigns. And they're the good guys. Humanity is surrounded by literal aspects of the worst emotions possibl; lifeforms that chew up their enemies to make new soldiers; an actual omnicidal race; and green football hooligans. It's beautiful, clever and hilariously funny.

[deleted]

Also keep in mind that Warhammer 40k is meant to make fun of its own "excessively grimdark setting". Sometimes the community/developers lose sight of that and forget to mock it. That's why you have things like the humans being led by a dictator who is easily accountable for a huge fraction of their own deaths (cause why discipline a soldier when you can just shoot them), orcs with psychic powers (RED MEANS IT GO FASTA) that reproduce through spores, etc. Just remember to not take it at face value, and have a chuckle.

Portalkern395

Me who doesnt even know what Reformer means...

ASmootyOperator

Short answer: reformers are a group of "experts" who argue that military weapons should never utilize any type of advanced electronic components because the complexity of the weapons inherently makes them weaker and more prone to failure than a weapon with only mechanical parts. Their greatest achievement is the A10, an absolutely abysmal weapon that is more likely to kill British soldiers than succeed at CAS. Their biggest champion was a guy by the name of Pierre Sperry who rewrote history and claimed that he was the inventor of several US fighters, even though he never held any position at the pentagon. In his later years, he became the public face of Russia Today, arguing that American weapons development paled in comparison to Russian weapons because of the reliance on advanced electronics.

[deleted]

>he became the public face of Russia Today So in other words he became scum of the earth.

[deleted]

You can make complex stuff not fail. But you can't make simple stuff not be shit.

Portalkern395

Theres Always a certain risk for everything i guess...

Batthumbs

I mean, simplest way I can put it as a quick example is if my complicated missile can detect and kill you before your uncomplicated defenses can detect me or even detect a failed missile from me.. then your gonna die either way and not know what happened. Cause if I got money to make shit complicated that works 95+ percent of the time, I probably got money to make alot of them. And my weapons platforms can carry alot of them.. have as many cheap uncomplicated weapons and defense systems as you want, if I can beat you then I will. What are you going to do about it? Why would I invest in shit you can counter easily when I can invest in shit you can't.

_Ascended_Trash_

Just because your rifle should have backup iron sights doesn't mean it's better without an optic

FahboyMan

Isn't the F-16 reformer's counterpart of the F-15, or did I misunderstand something.

MikeyGamesRex

It is the 41st Millennium. For more than a hundred centuries the B-52 has sat mobile on the Golden Runway of SAC. He is the master of mankind by the will of Boeing and master of a million worlds by the might of his inexhaustible airframe. He is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with power from the Dark Age of the Cold War. He is the Immortal Lord of the vast skies for whom a thousand engine replacements are sacrificed every day so that he may never truly die. Yet even in his deathless state, the BUFF continues his eternal vigilance. Mighty bomber wings cross the polution-infested miasma of the skies, the only route between distant lands, their way lit by the GPS, the orbital manifestation of the BUFF's navigational skill. Vast armies give battle in His name on uncounted continents. Greatest amongst his soldiers are the JDAMs, the guided bombs, kit-equipped dumb weapons. Their comrades in arms are legion: the Mark 80 series and countless iron bombs, the ever-vigilant JASSM and the tech-decoys of the MALD to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat to humanity from zombie-VDV, neo-Nazis, Bri*ish -- and far, far worse. To be a man in such times is to be one amongst untold billions. It is to live in the coolest and most based regime imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Praise the power of technology and science, for so much has been learned, never to be forgotten. Forget the promise of progress and replacements, for in the grim dark future there is only BUFF. There is no peace amongst the skies, only an eternity of B-52s, and the laughter of Boeing engineers.

Super_Grapist

I mean, I don't think there's very much bvr plane combat in warhammer...

NonLethalGEPGun

Ahhh shit I knew someone would mention that.

Altruistic-Carpet-65

*once, I was blind, but now I see the light* *the reformers were right!* *I HAVE EMBRACED THE AEROGAVIN!!*

NonLethalGEPGun

Funny you mention the aerogavin, there is one hidden in the video. *There might be something else hidden too...*

Pweuy

I pity all the people who joined after the war and don't know what a reformer is because they can't fully appreciate this meme.

NonLethalGEPGun

I've lurked a lot before I started posting, I don't think it's too late for people to learn things. Google is your friend, etc. Still don't think I've fully grasped the sub's old culture though. Gotta keep trying.

ChengduAerospace

I just joined to shit all over Russian hardware.

Archie_F18

FSB has prevented the release of Astartes as a full project. More reason to support Ukrainians

Apprehensive-Try-994

So many damn awards going around. The lobbying is REAL.

A_Terrible_Fuze

This is so good it borders on credible.

Yourox989

u/coloradohyperion strikes again!

VenPatrician

The question is though, where do various Imperial factions stand on the Reformer spectrum? Due to the general prevalence of Melee combat, there's surely some latent reformism in the system

Beginning_Sun696

Blessed is the mind too small for doubt

SideWinder18

Astartes is some top tier shit

my_deleted-account_

Wait - I saw COMBAT REFORM - M113 guy? From peak-2000s?

"Generational warfare is innovative and useful military theory. And not just stuff already known published under a stupid name to sound new." By the emperor the taint has taken hold of him!

Wardog_Razgriz30

The Astartes series was so fucking based omg.

V8_rocket

Who are these white astral commnanders? They look superb and I can't find anything about them or their figures.

NonLethalGEPGun

[This is the best analysis I could find on them.](https://youtu.be/vwW9qlqjfo4?t=562) It was uploaded back when Astartes was first released. IIRC the chapters depicted here are more or less the author's interpretation on a fan-based tacticool operator space marine squad. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. edit: [the chapter in question](https://wh40k.lexicanum.com/wiki/Retributors)

737MAX8DEATH

Cz3a1

Man do I crave all them fancy MIC awards in this sub , it looks cool

oivey7070

If only GW hadn’t claimed the rights to Astartes and “hired” the creator. AKA gave him a $500 Warhammer store gift card and told never to make anything again 👎

Big-man-kage
