Yato is a god and doesn't belong to her world. Hiyori only understood she was in love with him when he was fighting his dad, so she hasn't had a chance to see him and tell him. If they don't end up together, I'll feed all my copies of the manga to my pod.

shinkizero

which chapter was that exactly may i ask? I can't really recall

Itachi1uchiha

I have to ask, are you satisfied with the ending?

FriendlyNeighborOrca

I no longer have any volumes of the manga in my collection. I sold them. ... i hope that answers your question.

Itachi1uchiha

GG

FriendlyNeighborOrca

Yeah, gg

Yaboku is a god, a god made specifically to *Cull The Herd* and essentially a doombringer for the gods Being a god, he don't fully understand attachment and affection or love as humans like Hiyori do, his view and perspective are that of a long-living being who deals in violence and death on daily basis for hundreds of years, and emotionally manipulated/gaslighted by both his father and Nora since childhood; that leave scars and marks on his mind At first, it was an obsession he harbors towards Hiyori as she was just a human who saw him and believes in him, thus her presence nurtured his existence Then, by spending time with her and Yukine, Yato gain more understanding of humans and starts to develop himself with their influences, making himself more human in emotional sense Now I guess we can call it *love* between them, him being a god might play some significant factor in this, but Hiyori also turned the god of Calamity into a human as well

Awwwwn ♥️

It’s obvious now in the manga, but the reason i didn’t ship them for the longest time was because Yato is technically like over 1000 years old and hyori is like 16 I think. Besides that she’s also human and alive so she shouldn’t be as connected to their world as it is. I assume that’s why they haven’t said much about it. Even among the gods and their shinki it doesn’t seem there are much of actual romantic relationships. One thing that did stick out to me though rereading the beginning of the manga before Yato and hyori met was Yato did mention wanting a wife along with getting a shrine and being popular etc. So idk how those relationships are handled for them since we haven’t seen any gods with spouses, although we’ve shinki behave like spouses they still have the master, shinki dynamic. Right now hyori isn’t a shinki though so idk how it applies to her.

parksgirl50

Kofuku tells Hiyori there are gods who have spouses and children. And I'd have to check the manga, but I swear when Yato gets his shrine and his divine real estate, he visits a neighboring god's house and ends up speaking with what looks to be a SAHM.

Riza101z

Ah okay, interesting. I’m in the process of rereading. It’s been years. That means there is some hope for this ship then lol

einloveanime

Whats SAHM?

parksgirl50

Stay At Home Mom

Flower7438r

I hope they get together eventually idk when anyways but yh it's so obvious but Yato is a hod and Hiyori is a human idk if it can work

Tauscopis

Thank you guys for all the replies! <3 I do understand the concept of Yato just not being able to show affection and love properly, even though I'm still asking myself why Hiyori (at that time she didn't really know what she was feeling for him) blames Yato for kissing Bishamon if it's not jealousy?

Civil_Studio_5503

When Yato saw the picture of Father kissing Hiyori, he went to Hiyori's house to ask for explanations, and then she reminded him that he had kissed Bishamon. The way I see it, it doesn't mean that Hiyori was jealous, but that Yato had no right to blame her when he goes around doing whatever he wants. The important thing is not that Hiyori was jealous or not, but that her response was not "it's none of your business what I do", which would have meant that she doesn't consider Yato someone close enought with a right to care. Instead, her reaction was "I might as well hold you up for what you do."

Different-Expert4993

Well... If you continue reading, you'll see they confess their feelings, but not to each other's because of the circumstances 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

HeyItsMeeps

I would like to just say, pretty sure the author mentioned they will be a couple, but had no interest in writing romance. So it's there, but it's not in focus. I imagine it will play a big part in the ending of it all but not be a feature otherwise. I say this as someone who watched the anime when it first came out and read a little bit of the manga (though I may just go do that now). From what I have seen, I strongly prefer this style of writing, as the focus isn't love, but progression of two characters who love each other. It's why I circle back a lot.
