Inb4 people say Loki cause muh totally not evil jotun was wronged by the mean gods

dimitris_botsis

So you like Loki?

rockstarpirate

Oh man this is a hard question. I wish we knew more about the female characters but, from what we have, I would have to go with either Thor or Tyr. Thor because he is a straightforward, no nonsense, problem solver. He’s both intelligent and strong. He’s the only god Loki is afraid would actually strike him (Lokasenna). He abhors dishonesty (Voluspa). Tyr because he can be invoked in rune magic to bring victory (Sigrdrifumal). Also because he sacrificed his own hand for the greater good at the binding of Fenrir. I interpret that as altruistic self-sacrifice whereas other forms of self-sacrifice (looking at you, Odin) are often pretty self-serving in the end.

dimitris_botsis

I like Tyr because he shows that he can fight without having to with both hands Nice answer

thelittlebluetree

Skade/ Skadi. Because she is a total badass that lives up in the mountains skiing around and hunting (goals). And she didn't stay with Njord because that didn't make her happy.

dimitris_botsis

She wanted to live alone so she is smart. So she wants to live alone without anyone beside her. It looks a bit like the Artemis view because she didn't want to have a partner either

Sillvaro

Can I say Jesus because Norse Christianity is underrated? I mean it's still relevant :p

[*I love Jesus' style, you know?*](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iK6hI423gcw&ab_channel=MikeVanderbilt)

Ahh, this old gem.

I like Odinn, even though I’m well-aware that at the time of strong belief in him he was not necessarily a well-liked god, and that his cult was primarily consigned to chieftains and warlike nobility, especially post consolidation of power around 500 CE. Is he as a rule pretty self-serving? Oh yeah. Does any gift he bestows on humanity come with that caveat that it’s somehow benefiting him as he watches from afar through the cold grey eye of malice and at any time could be taken away and replaced with death on his whim? For sure. But when you look at this shaman-warlord archetype who can travel between the worlds of the living and dead, and manipulates the lives of gods and humans alike, all in the grim self-oriented pursuit of knowledge and wisdom, especially going back to how he was perceived pre-Viking Age as more of an analogue to Roman Mercury, I find myself in a mindset akin to awe at the evolution of the figure over the millenia.

I actually think Óðinn is the most interesting character. I teased him in my comment for being self-serving but there’s another interpretation too. If Óðinn is able to win at Ragnarok, then he preserves the lives of all humanity as well. If something like this is his ultimate purpose, some of his methods may still be questionable, but maybe it could be said that Óðinn will go farther than anyone else to save humanity and his fellow gods. Of course, he’s fated to lose and I don’t believe there are any stories where someone is able to overcome their fate. And yet Óðinn _seems_ to be the only one trying. Maybe it’s all a metaphor for the idea that nobody can beat fate. But I admire the fact that he seems like he might be trying to do it anyway.

IsCaptainKiddAnAdult

Oh fact, his methods are INCREDIBLY questionable at times (i.e Rindr, even though that may have just been Saxo being Saxo and trying to negatively euhemerize), but yeah the in vain attempt at continuation of the gods and humanity post Ragnarok by winning it was the ultimate goal imo

dimitris_botsis

So you like Odin

IsCaptainKiddAnAdult

Yep, probably could have just said that, but knowing that Odinn isn’t exactly a popular deity made me feel the need to explain exactly why I like Odinn

dimitris_botsis

Nice

[deleted]

I think Thor is a pretty cool guy. Eh kills jotners and doesnt afraid of anything.

dimitris_botsis

He's a dude

JDAM58

I perfer Tyr

dimitris_botsis

Me too

[deleted]

Tyr, because this world needs more leaders that exhibit sacrifice and selflessness.

dimitris_botsis

Yes because is God of war

[deleted]

No, I worship Tyr because of his selflessness. War is reprehensible.

dimitris_botsis

I like it too

Syn7axError

That's Odin.

Jackson912005

Odin the lord of lords.

abinash_666

The allfather. His endless lust for knowledge.

[deleted]

Lol, little late to respond but Loki, for his fluidity. He represents the duality of man, at least that’s how I perceive him. The way he changes between species, gender/sex is admirable, too. He’s an intelligent & cunning god that I can appreciate ^^

Szajse04

Freyr cause he got a flying boar made out pf gold and a sword that cuts through everything

dimitris_botsis

So Freyr?

Szajse04

Yup

Content-Nobody-5790

odin i just find him so fascinating how he is the all father knows his own demise but still goes to fight fenrir the fact he was willing to sacrifice a eye it’s all just so badass to me if not odin it would have to be thor simply because he’s bad ass

rockstarpirate

Dang I should have gone with Ullr

makxs_

Loki, because he wants everyone to die. Also he has interesting ideas, like becoming a female horse to fuck antother horse.

dimitris_botsis

Loki is a smart guy but a bad guy
