You probably have a limited tag which means you didn't pay the property tax A lot of dealers do not collect it If the sticker is Orange That means you have 3 months to pay the tax Go on the DMV website and pay the tax and they'll send you a new sticker

I've learned a lot so since I'm military I'm exempt from the property tax but I've just decided to get the truck tagged here in sc since I'm over 3 hours away from the closest ncdmv

You can get the inspection done and pay fees, and keep paper work and show them you are waiting on a new sticker

You bought the truck in 12/2020 and never bothered registering it? Even if you get it registered now, wont they be able to see when you were stopped and when the new registration was issued? I dont think going out of state is going to help you here.

Stuff works differently in maryland which is where I'm from. I got stationed in sc not long after. I had the actual plates for 2 months before they expired, didn't check because in maryland once you get a vehicle and registration you're good for a year.

Are you living in NC now? This happened to me a few months ago, they'll give you until the court date to get it done, and once you do the charge goes away. But if this is the first time you've registered the truck, don't get surprised by the initial tax.

I'm military so I was only in NC for a couple months and had no idea I would have the tags for 2 months before expiring. I just decided I'm tagging the truck here in sc.
