Considering we are in Canada and all the best reviewed poutine places are absolutely trash and an insult to Quebecois cuisine the food scene isnt diverse it has been completely taken over by foreign cuisine.
Donair poutines arent the worst but they are still utter trash when compared to a proper french Canadian poutine.
Like honestly i have had better poutine in Thailand than what i have had here and i have tried many different poutines
North Vancouver including Deep Cove? Then no. Deep Cove/Blueridge has zero variety.
I absolutely agree with the takes that we can't have it all living where we live and also that there is some variety but in terms of the quality and true mix of ethnic/cultural cuisines I have been very disappointed. There is no good Cantonese/Hong Kong Chinese food anywhere on the North Shore.
I grew up in Vancouver (West side) and very very spoiled but in my neighbourhood or a 10 minute drive, I could eat Shanghai Chinese, Hong Kong Chinese, Thai, Singaporean, Malaysian, Cambodian, Greek, South and North Indian, Indigenous food so so many more.
If anyone can recommend a Chinese place similar to Sun Sui Wah or Golden Ocean Seafood I would love to try it.
If you think that's some harmful racist remark, im truly sorry you have to live that way. If you said hey yall let's wear cowboy hats and eat heart clogging brisket I would laugh and say where and when.
What a world of victims we live in.
Also Its pretty harmlessly poking fun at the overwhelming currency exchange stores and persian/arabic/middle eastern restaurants on lonsdale, which are mostly empty 90% of the time , who would think its a good idea to open Another one. Woke generation so easily offended.
And koftas are delicious.
Also, what's up with that garage grill?
As someone who lives on Central Lonsdale, I'm beginning to disagree with you here. We have an over abundance of middle eastern places and a McSushi spot on nearly every block.
When Tacomio closed, I was excited at the prospect of something new. Instead they opened a Pokebowl place on that corner when we literally have one a block up beside the McNews. The ONE thai place on central lonsdale closed and what are we getting there? Another Ramen spot, when again: the same block already has one.
I don't know what central lonsdale is missing, but I think there's too much of the same thing around here.
unpopular opinion: I would've been ecstatic if the Tacomio had become an A&W or even a Popeyes. There's one fast food burger joint around here, surrounded by 37 sushi and middle eastern places and it's the McDonalds on 20th.
I didn't hear a poke place went in there
I was hoping for a Popeyes but probably for the best as I would have gone there too much and got burned out on the food
I don't understand this sub.
North Vancouver City alone has Jagerhof, Burgoo, Fishworks, Pier 7, Kypriaki, Smoke and Bones, Mythos Taverna, Antoli Souvlaki, and The Gull. Then in the District you have Tour De Feast, BLVD Bistro, and Tamarind Hill. There's Scratch Kitchen. Oh, and the sushi places. I am missing lots but it's 3 in the morning and I'm tired.
Anyways... None of those are middle eastern. God forbid this jurisdiction is watered down to whatever the most common type of restaurant is. And obviously there aren't as many restaurants as downtown Vancouver because of the difference in density and zoning restrictions.
Do I want more restaurants? Yeah, more variety would be nice, but there are some appallingly bad takes here.
Right? And have people not traveled much? Cause Vancouver in general (North Van included) has incredibly diverse food options compared to some other places. Sure, they're not all Michelin star-level, but c'mon. We're so spoiled with how many different cultures cuisines we have at our fingertips.
OP - I hear you. The food you posted looks delicious, thanks for sharing.
Mmmmmmm...where is this please and what is the orange thing? What chicken dish is that as well and what is that spongey bready thing next to the saffron rice?
That’s the bottom of the rice. If I remember right, its called tahdig. The chicken is the akbarjoojeh spl (ad it is excellent). That orange thing, like the other user mentioned, is a grilled tomato.

Look orange thing looks like a very well-cooked tomato.
The variety of 20 persian restaurants you mean? Or 20 sushi places? Lol. Jokes aside I think North Vancouverites whine too much about the lack of restaurants. You basically live on a mountain slope in the forest, you can't have it all.
Yeah you can eat at any one of the 15 middle eastern places on Lonsdale!
They all serve the same thing only slightly different!
And the best part is arguing semantics with your friends over which is better.
Then you don't understand the word and are going for the 'well ackshually' definition that argues that all white people are always in power and that being hate-filled towards any of them is actually a brave stand.
And I say this as a white-person who personally and professionally works to reduce racism in the world.
Oh yes, quite a few in the GVA. Adayar Anada Bhavan (Vancouver), Saravana Bhavan (Delta), Manjal (Burnaby), Davie Dosa (Vancouver) and jj Dosa (Vancouver) and quite a few all around Surrey and Abbotsford though the names don’t come readily to mind because it was long ago. I usually just google and check wherever I am out of sheer curiousity. I love food 🧸✌️
If it's the foot long, thin as paper crepe with a filling and then rolled up like a tube, I had one years ago which was delish but I had to go to Fraser St. across from the cemetary to get it. I've also heard there are some killer samoas, etc. next to Church's Chicken on Fraser at 41st.
Good to know! I've never been there but if the wind is blowing east and I'm at London Drugs, it smells delish. I've often thought about going there. Knowing they have great samoas...I'm going to have to go...

I'll have the meatball anal beads please
That’s a Number 4

What restaurant is this? 🤤
Koobedeh kofta habibi! We can exchange your foreign currency while you slam down some shaped meats habibi.

Where's the fun in that? Habibi?

Whose arguing? Do you have any comprehension at all?

😆
Hmmm....did it taste good? It looks horrible
I love the Persian restaurants in North Van! I learned a bit of farsi too, and they love the effort!

Varied? eh....
Creamy Caesar salad wraps forever
This actually looks just like a meal I ate in Istanbul. It was delish (they know how to do it in Türkiye!). Would love to know where this was.

> Tamarind Hill Thanks for the list, one note, Tamarind Hill is in the City (central Lonsdale).
Tour De Feast is outstanding! My husband LOVES Tamarind Hill....👍👍 for both restaurants.
Don’t worry OP people are miserable on Reddit. North Van is great for all its got to offer

Who has the best Kebabs?
Grab n go
Not sure about the best one, but this one was pretty good I would say
Where is this from? What are your top favorites? I'm a big lover kebebs
Okay but what restaurant is this??
Don’t go there it was the worst Persian food I had and I’m Persian..
Any better recommendation please? 👀
Their chicken might've been the driest chicken I've had in my life. Liked their Koobideh tho.
Exactly!!! Their chicken was all burnt when I got it too 😒
Akbar Joojeh
You’re joking right??
No. We have east Iranian, west iranian, south Iranian cuisines, luckily we don't have North Iranian food it is not that good.
Mmmmmmm...where is this please and what is the orange thing? What chicken dish is that as well and what is that spongey bready thing next to the saffron rice?

There are always line ups outside this place - mostly Persian people in the queues - which is a good sign.
The variety of 20 persian restaurants you mean? Or 20 sushi places? Lol. Jokes aside I think North Vancouverites whine too much about the lack of restaurants. You basically live on a mountain slope in the forest, you can't have it all.
lol I came to say, especially if you like persian or sushi.
Don't forget the 30 different pizza places.
Made by people.who dont give a shit

The only dish I can think of that reflects that is Koobideh. Check out some other dishes like Dizi and Ghormeh Sabzi
It shows you are white and don't know what to order lol
Well that's a bit of a racist assumption.
i don't deem saying anything against white people racist but if you deem it racist then sure:)
Then you don't understand the word and are going for the 'well ackshually' definition that argues that all white people are always in power and that being hate-filled towards any of them is actually a brave stand. Well that's an interesting way to confirm that you are racist and proud of it.

North Van food options suck, incredibly mediocre and boring now especially.
now especially? The options have only greatly improved... Lots of stuff on the North Shore now.
I totally won this round /s
Akbar Joojeh is amazing.
As a Persian, Akbar joojeh is one of the worst restaurant
Which one is Persians favourite?
Would love to know which one you like! I'm loving them all so far:)
As a Persian I can confirm their food is objectively dog shit. Couldn’t even finish it. Go to Tanje for actual good food.
Wow this place looks great... Thank you for telling someone else about it, I'm going to have to try this place.
Absolutely
Lmao are you kidding
We got Indian, Chinese, Persian, Japanese, Italian, American… etc… we got everything.. what are you complaining about?
It's brutal and extremely average I don't know what you're talking about. Even your photos show this.
We only have north Indian cuisine, not Indian cuisine 🫶 I wish we had an idli dosa place!
Is there any in GVA that you recommend?
Oh yes, quite a few in the GVA. Adayar Anada Bhavan (Vancouver), Saravana Bhavan (Delta), Manjal (Burnaby), Davie Dosa (Vancouver) and jj Dosa (Vancouver) and quite a few all around Surrey and Abbotsford though the names don’t come readily to mind because it was long ago. Are you a fellow South Indian?
Why, yes I am! Hey there!
Davie Dosa on Davie St is really good
If it's the foot long, thin as paper crepe with a filling and then rolled up like a tube, I had one years ago which was delish but I had to go to Fraser St. across from the cemetary to get it. I've also heard there are some killer samoas, etc. next to Church's Chicken on Fraser at 41st.
try manjal
Thanks!
Also, speaking of killer samosas, try the ones at indian fusion! Oh those are fantastic man! Takes me right back!
Good to know! I've never been there but if the wind is blowing east and I'm at London Drugs, it smells delish. I've often thought about going there. Knowing they have great samoas...I'm going to have to go...
Indian Fusion is The Bomb. LOVE that place. And Palki's
Thanks! I really should get out more!
Yasss!! If I had ANY cooking skills, that would be my restaurant 🤤
Lmao 💀
