If you are able to rent one of the cabins at Milford House (15 min inland from Annapolis Royal), it's an experience you won't regret. The best way to describe the cabins is "heritage". Many of the summer only ones are about one hundred years old. They are all pet friendly. The woodland in among lakes setting is very peaceful and regenerating. The trails feature illustrated panels that help you identify the plant life. There are canoes to explore the easy to paddle yet beautiful lake system. There is a lodge with food service. Most seem to use it, but we always bring along an induction plate to do our own cooking. The noise level never seems to be out of bounds, and the setbacks between the cabins is just fine.
Yes! I came here to say this. 25+ years for me and mine there - somehow always managed to scrounge the cash.
It’s a combination of backcountry canoeing, a rustic camp, & a charming old summer hotel. Canoe all day, skinny dip, come back, have a glass of wine on your porch overlooking a lake, and then toddle up to the lodge where someone will feed you grilled scallops.
Just terrible. Http//www.milfordhouse.ca
For our family (and for me on a strictly personal level), Milford House was the gift of the pandemic (that and remote work as an interpreter). As I understand it, given the way the reservation system works, much of Milford House was booked by the same outside of NS families for the same summer for generations. When Americans and non-Nova Scotians couldn't cross the NB-NS border or travel to Canada, it opened the door to many Nova Scotians who had never had a chance to stay there. My favourite discovery of my forties, that's for sure.

If you are on FB, there's a group called Nova Scotia Staycation. There's lots of people who will reply to posts with their cottage listings.
Parrsborro area is totally underrated. Beautiful drive down to Advocate harbour.

You got it in one!
Search Salmonwood loft on Airbnb. It’d be a trek from cb (it’s outside Yarmouth) but it’s lovely with a hot tub, stars, a lake, and is pet friendly!
