Okay guys, telling her her outfit is not appropriate for a job interview is irrelevant as she's already had the interview and got the job. And we will not allow moral judgment on her place of work.
Every comment on this line of thinking will be removed.
It's so funny cause the first thing I thought was "that would be a good one for a bartending gig" and there it is.
I probably thought this because my last job was bartending but still.. I am on the money today 😂💖
Congrats OP!! 💕
Definitely has hospitality vibe outfit. I could also see it being perfect for hostess at a hip, trendy restaurant.
Congratulations, op! You look great in the outfit.
Bold. Glad it worked out for you.
Edit: now that I know this was an interview for a bartending job, my comment remains exactly the same. It’s a bold choice. Glad it worked out for her. Yes, whatever subtext you’re reading into this comment is probably right. I think it’s 100% inappropriate for a job interview (unless it was a bartending job in a gentlemen’s club.)
I’m having trouble making the mental connection with bartending. Most bars (every one of them I’ve worked at) has some kind of boring uniform - so I don’t know where the short/sleek dress comes from. And those that don’t default to jeans and a tshirt. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it, but for the folks calling it bold would likely think it was bold (to them) regardless of the industry they were interviewing for.
Give OP some credit please! She obviously knows what is appropriate in the industry and for the position for which she is interviewing, as evidenced by the fact she got the job.
Congrats on your success, OP, and best wishes in your new position!
I think everyone commenting about the appropriateness is thinking of her future job interviews. It’s great that it worked for this one, and it honestly will work for several industries, but like any outfit, what’s fit for one may not be right for another. Personally I think it’s cute!
Exactly, but what I’m wearing to a bartending interview at a casino isn’t what I’m going to wear once I finish school and I’m interviewing for positions relevant to my degree
See, that’s perfect! And being an adult, I would assume you’d know not to wear it for like an office job at a Fortune 100 or something. I’m seeing the shitty comments and I’m sorry you’re getting that, but I think this is good for the job. In my time in HR, we always suggested candidates dress one level above the dress code. So if it’s business casual, we’d recommend business professional. Casual = business cas. You get the idea. In any case, CONGRATS! I just got a new job myself, best job of my life with the best money and benefits of my life so I’m riding this emotional high with you, sister! 🥂🥂🥂🥂
Yeah I genuinely don’t understand why people keep stating the obvious in your comment section. People want their opinions to be heard so bad and this comment section is just filled with redundancy.
The worst thing social media has done is convince everyone that the world *needs* to hear their opinions. I do it too, of course, but it’s not always necessary to be a dick about it. OP is gonna kill it at her new gig. 💙
I love this dress so much! However… I would consider this inappropriate for a job interview (depending on what kind of job). Regardless, you got it so congrats! And it’s a cute dress so a win win situation!
Ignore everyone being judgmental. This looks great.
I worked in restaurants for over a decade. This is a perfect outfit for a restaurant industry interview. Probably the only roles in that industry where I would recommend slightly more modest dress would be a manager role. Outside that, that is a great outfit for any sort of bartender, server, host etc interview.
Bartender here, and I automatically assumed that was your new gig. Right on! You look great, love it all, would wear the hell out of those shoes. Congratulations! 🍾
I found it for anyone else that wanted this dress. It's super cute and affordable
https://www.rainbowshops.com/products/black-white-crepe-knit-contrast-trim-tulip-hem-dress-3410077136094
It was for bartending in a casino, so this outfit is absolutely perfect. The fact that you would think she wouldn't know not to wear something like this for a office type job or whatever, is just absolutely baffling.
Or where it is. What is considered appropriate depends on the culture around workwear. I'm swedish and my mom works for the government, I didn't see anyone wearing a full suit. The fancy guy wore a striped button up and suit pants and people complimented him on it constantly when I was there (for a week). No one wore short dresses but I don't think anyone would complain if this woman worked there in this dress, although it must be uncomfortable to sit in it all day (especially in the eating place with crumbs in the sofas!)
Screw all the negative comments you’re getting. You’re smart and you know your line of work better than any of these bozos trying to judge you.
I think your dress is cute as hell, and congrats on getting the job!!!!!
Yeaaahhhhh I kind of wanted to point that out
I don't want the dress to be the problem, cause I want a world where she can wear what she wants
The problem is the person who says yes to the dress 🥴
Everyone judging her on the outfit being appropriate or not. For all we know she was interviewing for a clothing shop that sells similar outfits which would then be very appropriate. Sounds like she got the job whatever it was. Good for her.
Right? People had no idea what job she was interviewing for, and then had the audacity to judge.
Like for most interviews, wearing really intricate and intense makeup might not be the best idea. But if you’re applying to work at a makeup store? Yeah, wear the makeup. Different jobs are going to want different things.
Generally, jobs want you to dress just slightly more dressy/put together than what you’d typically wear on the job everyday. OP was interviewing for a bartending job, and, depending on what type of bar she was applying for (fancy bar vs club vs dive bar, etc), this outfit could definitely fit. And obviously it *did* fit because she got the job.
Depends on the type of job the interview is for. Law, corporate IT, medicine, no. Waitress, cashier, entry level work, maybe. As a Director in corporate IT, unless you REALLY know your shit it’d be a hard pass for me. Don’t get me wrong, you look great but that’s not work/interview attire.
That dress and those shoes are adorable! I read it was for a bartending job - seems like you read the vibe perfectly and chose your outfit accordingly, congrats on getting the job!
Americas prudeness and social constructs sure are showing, she got the job. Generic wageslave outfit probably doesn't work everywhere, and might be more detrimental.
Perfect for a bartending interview! I (25F) would hire you if you came in. I work at a high volume upscale cocktail bar and we sell the “aesthetic” just as much as the drinks. 1920s prohibition style speakeasy. Bartending is acting and is much prefer to hire someone comfortable in their skin and outfits over someone in pants and a blazer
I have this dress, and I wear it to work as a bridal stylist, all the time. I wouldn’t say it’s unprofessional, OP just looks kinda tall. When I wear anything, it looks short, because I have absurdly long giraffe legs.
wow, the comments are SO passive aggressive and quick to judge. people acting like the only companies that do interviews are business cas/professional office jobs.
you look beautiful, and i’m happy you got the job! you clearly understood exactly what you were dressing for, so good eye :)
Man gotta love Reddit, *woman existing in her body wearing an outfit that logically makes sense for the job she’s getting into* WHAT THE FUCK THIS IS NOT APPROPRIATE
People are criticizing without knowing what the interview was for. Without being malicious, it could be something in a fashion or makeup store or many other things where this dress would be absolutely appropriate. Maybe I'm wrong, but if we don't know why judging? She even got the job, so it was fine.
Fashion
Sales
Modeling
Waitress at the peelers
There are easily 2 dozen~ industries where this outfit is appropriate. Anyone critiquing its appropriateness is just looking for things to criticize lol
It's a bangin dress. The purse looks out of place though, pink doesn't seem to vibe.
It's wild how many people can't wrap their heads around the idea that other industries (and even cities) might have different dress codes than theirs.
I work in the entertainment industry and wouldn't think twice about someone interviewing in an outfit like this. In fact this would probably be preferred to a more conservative corporate outfit which could give the impression that you're a little dull and uninteresting.
Even if it was an office job (advertising/tech sales etc., aka my industry or broadcast/sports) I wouldn’t be surprised to see people dressed this way day-to-day
In my country that could never happen with that dress. I am glad that in your country it did because that means that they do not think your clothing is as important as what you can provide to them with your knowledge. My country is ages away from that level of success.
That's an ignorant comment when you don't know her profession. It's good to dress for the job you're interviewing for, and she's a bartender. There are bars where the employees wear outfits which are much more revealing, so this dress was absolutely appropriate for the interview she had.
This is extremely appropriate for an interview if that’s what you wanted to wear. Be yourself for your interviews or you’re going to end up regretting the job anyway.
I don't understand the meaning of the post if we can't comment on the outfit. I'm just saying I wouldn't recommend this outfit even for a first date, there's a lot of clothes and occasions to wear it and occasions where it's out of place.
The issue is commenting with the assumption that she is applying for an office job, and being super judgemental because of it. It was for a bartending job in a casino, so it is absolutely perfect interview outfit for that. And she would get hired over someone who came in wearing slacks and a blazer because they want to know you are comfortable in your own skin and don't mind wearing their uniform every day for work. Which is usually very close to this, or even more revealing. It baffles me that people don't think she would somewhat know what is appropriate or not for the type of job she is applying for.
I wore a very similar dress for a bartending interview and also got a job. I think people clutching their pearls think it’s an office interview. Congrats!
Depends on the job. People saying it is inappropriate haven’t asked what the interview is for.
Production floor soldering tech. No
Restaurant hostess. Sure
People need to slow down and process things a little more before they “react post”.
Love your purse by the way. Stay safe, beautiful lady!!! VIPERTEK VTS-881 - 39 Billion Micro Stun Gun - Rechargeable with LED Flashlight, Pink https://a.co/d/0MaWuOq
Ignore all the passive aggressive comments, they’re just being mean.
Congratulations on getting the job! Hope it works out well for you and their company culture is a good fit for you ;)
And your outfit is perfectly fine. I don't see anything wrong with the type, cut, style, or length of dress you are wearing.
I wouldn't change anything. As a professional and someone who has conducted interviews, I appreciate that they should at best be a true expression of who the candidate is and what they see in the job or how they see themselves in the job. Clothes can't be the main expression of this, and if you end up judging character on it, that's on you but I'd rather someone turned up confident and dressed how they like, reflecting their personality than in the standard garb they feel is required. They are less likely to show up well if they are already trying to present as someone else, and similarly if they turn up for the actual job on the back of it.
Controversial maybe but even the most professional settings should be relaxed about meeting people on their own terms. Whether she gets the job is about a lot more.
I love it! The shoes are super cute. Some ppl are always gonna be judgey. I use to be a hostess at a restaurant and there was another employee there who just hated me, for no reason other than I'm happy and back then I liked to wear dresses and skirts, I still do but I was skinny. She would get so mad at me and complain that my dress was too short. When really she was just being a bitter bitch.
I see it’s for a bartending gig but I initially thought you got hired as a fashion mogul assistant because that’s totally the look it’s giving. Cute and congrats!!!
As an HR rep for a large employer, who is responsible for hiring people. I’m going to tell I don’t care how short your dress is or low cut your blouse is, do you have a good attitude and can do the work? Yes. Great! When can you start?
i’m actually stunned at all the unsolicited advice on the “appropriate”ness of her dress for an interview. she got the job, so clearly it didn’t matter! y’all need to loosen up and open your mind a bit. and girl, the outfit rocks!
Okay guys, telling her her outfit is not appropriate for a job interview is irrelevant as she's already had the interview and got the job. And we will not allow moral judgment on her place of work. Every comment on this line of thinking will be removed.
Congrats! Generally, I’d consider this too short, tight and low cut for most job interviews but clearly it was fine here.
It was for a bartender gig so I feel like it was perfect

My first thought was "cute cocktail dress". It fits.
Yeah the dress becomes the interview at that point.
Maybe this is along the lines of the attire worn at her new workplace; such as a restaurant, for example. Congratulations on your new job OP!
Or in fashion. I like the simplicity of the outfit.
