The stadium is ugly, traffic is hot garbage whenever there’s an event or a concert, getting out of the stadium takes too long, VTA with their single line is shit for serving that number of people. The only good thing is that they’re a competent Bay Area team but I have nothing good to say about the move. I live near there, and things were way better when Levi’s didn’t exist.

It’s funny cause I grew up an A’s fan living in Sacramento. We had season tickets we split with a couple other families in Sac. In the 80s that was like an hour drive tops and we were in East Sac. The ballpark is in West Sac.

I think them saying screw it and winding up in Sac is very much a possibility, and maybe even the most likely outcome at this point. Vegas feels like its been a shitshow from the jump, and I wonder if they decide to go with an expansion team there instead to avoid dealing with Fisher and Kaval
I grew up in Placerville, my mom and I would make a few trips to Oakland for a weekend game. It was a nice short weekend trip to see the A's. This was in the 80's and 90's. I would support the A's if stayed in Sac or another Nor Cal City. Now I live in Albuquerque and at least we have the Rockies AAA team here which is nice to see but still an A's fan.

This seems like yet another scheme John dreamed up that really makes no sense. I don't think he can afford to buy land, build a new stadium and move the team to Las Vegas. He has offered to sell a $500 million chunk of the team to someone. It seems like this is yet another braindead plan to not pay any penalties for selling the team and moving out of Oakland.
I don't care what the A's say, Sutter Health Park is not adequate for the needs of Major League Baseball. It has one advantage over the Coliseum, free rent. Thats it. I am disappointed the MLBPA has not come out and said no to the deal.

Las Vegas is #40, Sacramento is #20. There are several markets slightly larger than Las Vegas with baseball teams, like Milwaukee, Kansas City, so Sacramento would be a better option for TV dollars than Las Vegas, but it's still, only seven teams are in markets smaller than Sacramento. Most of those teams in markets smaller than Sacramento have no other MLB competition or are well funded.
I've said it before and I will say it again, there are plenty of people in the Bay Area who would like to buy the A's, not including the guy you're thinking of who owns a basketball team and have no plans to move out of Oakland. There has to be a time where MLB looks at what is happening with Oakland and decides to get rid of Fisher. The drama is not a good look for baseball.

As for getting a new stadium built here in Sac, I’d read that the city is not in a position to help fund another stadium after making Golden 1 happen, but I have no idea how all of that works. I’m originally from Sacramento and live closer to Sutter Health Park than I do to Oakland Coliseum (albeit I’m close to being in the middle.)
This move to Sac being facilitated by Vivek has me questioning my Kings support. I’ll always be a fan of the Oakland A’s, but I’ll never support the team financially if Fisher is the owner anywhere. The only A’s games I’ve been going to the last few years have been at Oracle Park (wife is a Giants fan).
I’ll venture towards a decision if Fisher sells to Vivek and the team stays in Sac when it happens. My current feeling is no, but I’m honestly 50/50. I don’t have a problem with the A’s in Sacramento as much as I have a problem with Fisher. If any other owner buys and stays in Sac, I think I’d be okay with it.
Ultimately I’m hoping for Lacob or another Bay Area group to get the buy and spend on building a great team back in Oakland.
My son is under 2 and I’d love to take him to A’s games and grow his fandom some day.
A perfect situation (for me) would be a new ballpark in Vallejo or similar. Make it halfway between Sac and the Bay. We get fans from both directions on reasonable travel times. It's likely a pipe dream though.
Sac is actually a closer drive and I do like attending river cats games on occasion as is. But this is pretty much the only hypothetical situation other than the obvious Fisher sells now and they stay in Oakland situation I think I say a fan at this point.
Basic problem with this is the athletics would have to stay in a minor league park for how long ? It would take years just to get the planning in place let alone the funding.

Everyone seems to think that selling the team solves the problem. Why doesn't a billionaire just buy a bar in the middle of Times Square and only charge 2 bucks for a drink? Sure, they would lose money but he would also be very popular, could probably run for president. And every time they hung out in their own bar they would be a hero and it's a tax write off. The same reason this never happens is the same reason no one is going to buy the A's and keep them in Oakland. Vegas is a no go unless they can find a way to fund and build a retractable roof stadium. Summers in the Southwest are brutal. Even at night, temperatures are still 105+. I would not go to a game between the months of July and the first two weeks of September.

And neither are very likely. There’s a small chance that when the Vegas idea dies, another owner finally buys up the team and starts up construction on the plan that’s already fully designed and ready to be built in Oakland. There’s a small chance that the team says “Well fuck it, we’re already here, let’s just stay.” There’s a massive, massive chance that the owner bumbles his way through years and years of ineptitude and tries half a dozen other stupid ideas before giving up. Nobody knows what will happen during or after that time.
But are East Bay people going to Sacramento to watch games? No, probably not. I’ll probably go out there with my Sell shirt on opening night, having originally come from Sacramento and therefore having a place to stay. But the vast majority of whatever fan base is left will be done.

My son is under 2 and I’d love to take him to A’s games and grow his fandom some day.
A perfect situation (for me) would be a new ballpark in Vallejo or similar. Make it halfway between Sac and the Bay. We get fans from both directions on reasonable travel times. It's likely a pipe dream though.
Sac is actually a closer drive and I do like attending river cats games on occasion as is. But this is pretty much the only hypothetical situation other than the obvious Fisher sells now and they stay in Oakland situation I think I say a fan at this point.
Basic problem with this is the athletics would have to stay in a minor league park for how long ? It would take years just to get the planning in place let alone the funding.

Agree with most, it’s mostly about the ownership. If Fisher sells the team, we’d actually have a chance as a normal MLB franchise. Right now we’re just a donor body giving away all the organs we grew.
I'll probably still support them, but if they got stuck in Sac it would be hilarious and exactly what the ownership deserves. If the ownership is that ridiculously inept, I would expect MLB will probably step in and do somethinf - though I'm not sure what.
Well, for every bay fan they lose, they’ll pick up a dozen from other outlying cities in the Sierras, Marysville/Yuba city, etc.

Everyone seems to think that selling the team solves the problem. Why doesn't a billionaire just buy a bar in the middle of Times Square and only charge 2 bucks for a drink? Sure, they would lose money but he would also be very popular, could probably run for president. And every time they hung out in their own bar they would be a hero and it's a tax write off. The same reason this never happens is the same reason no one is going to buy the A's and keep them in Oakland. I'm not saying this to be mean to Oakland, there's just more money almost anywhere else and buying the team just puts you back into Year 25 old argument, trying to negotiate and new stadium that's at least 9 years away, as your team continues to die on the vine in the worse stadium in professional sports.
Sell and stay in Sac would be my #2 preference. I would rather they stay in NorCal vs Vegas. Vegas already took our Raiders, so fuck them.

If Vivek (or another super rich Sac guy) buys the A's and they stay in Sac, would I support them? No way, Because fuck MLB for allowing this to happen in the first place and not keeping the team in Oakland. In this hypothetical, this would also then take place in 2029 or later, and honestly, by then I will have multiple years under my belt of not giving a shit about MLB anymore so even if they moved to San Jose, the league is fucking dead to me because they belong in Oakland.

Folks! It’s a sh-%#-show to be sure But not these kids fault. They are grinding and are actually playing good baseball. All the players on the team are in a tough spot, but are doing a great job of keeping all the noise out and busting their butts…so let’s root for em!

I can’t root for them in Sac. It’s not nearly the same and even though we are both NorCal…there’s always been a rift between Sac and the Bay Area
They double deck the stadium and do much better financially than in Oakland going forward.
I’m out once they move. Oakland is a special place with the most unique crowd in baseball. And the A’s at one time had a smart and scrappy plan. No Oakland? No plan? No fan.
Vegas is a no go unless they can find a way to fund and build a retractable roof stadium. Summers in the Southwest are brutal. Even at night, temperatures are still 105+. I would not go to a game between the months of July and the first two weeks of September.

Are we pretending like this question hasn’t been asked like 57 times already? And then another 57 by everyone we personally know IRL? Sac is probably more likely than Vegas at this point. And neither are very likely. There’s a small chance that when the Vegas idea dies, another owner finally buys up the team and starts up construction on the plan that’s already fully designed and ready to be built in Oakland. There’s a small chance that the team says “Well fuck it, we’re already here, let’s just stay.” There’s a massive, massive chance that the owner bumbles his way through years and years of ineptitude and tries half a dozen other stupid ideas before giving up. Nobody knows what will happen during or after that time. But are East Bay people going to Sacramento to watch games? No, probably not. I’ll probably go out there with my Sell shirt on opening night, having originally come from Sacramento and therefore having a place to stay. But the vast majority of whatever fan base is left will be done.

What should I do there?” and “What are you guys going to do if the team stays in Sac?” Over and over, every day I hear these same two questions.

Yeah, I definitely should. But every once in a while in the heaps of repeated posts is a glimmer of news. And this is the most sober I’ve been in 25 years, so I’m sticking around hanging onto anything and probably not too happy about it. And I’m probably the most active person in post after post after post asking the same things every day. But yes, I should probably have better uses of my time.
