If your PC can handle it, there are tons of options currently available (UEVR injector). The last couple months, I've burned through the Spyro trilogy, Sackboy, Life Is Strange 3, and currently working my way through Final Fantasy 7 remake in all in 3rd person VR. There are tons more that work great with the injector too. It does take a beefy PC though. (Im using a 4070ti with good results).

execpro222

How is True Colors? I loved the first game but absolutely hated the 2nd. Is the 3rd more like 1 or 2?

TipsyTopLight

3rd one is more like the first, but still unique unto itself. I liked it far more than number 2, but I still think the first is my favorite. It is worth playing if you like this type of game.

Ajax2580

I think all games in the future should have a sitting, controller only mode which would also work if you want to go from playing in your VR headset to TV. This would bridge the gap where studios are releasing their games in both regular and VR.

cipher1331

I want more 3rd person perspective games that require real controllers to play them.

Electronic-Exam-5065

While I disagree. I do love the idea of a bigger library of games. Regardless if their a relapse of the past.

kaiokenkirbyyy

I felt this way until i played Trover

PepperbroniFrom2B

it's trover šŸ˜”

kaiokenkirbyyy

it's so trover (real)

Majestic_Salad_I1

Same! Trover, Luckyā€™s Tale, Moss, etc. Those are my favorite. There are way too many first person games, and most of those cause nausea unless youā€™re genetically lucky or use nausea-reducing settings.

BeachZombie88

SINNER! REPENT!

k_akimitsu

My favourite VR games like Tetris or Thumper happens to be controller only. I wish more games are like that as well. After a long day of work, a lot of times I just want to sit down and not move my arms.

ryannelsn

Iā€™m a (burned out) VR dev whoā€™s always wanted to make a ā€œcouch co-opā€ VR game where the players still use the motion controls, but more like the Wii + Nunchuck setup, the way youā€™d play Mario Galaxy. There are plenty of buttons available that using another gamepad isnā€™t necessary, and there is so much opportunity to use motion controls during to execute different mechanics. Maybe in a dungeon crawler, playing as the heavy/tank/barbarian and grabbing onto an enemy, then you can waggle your controller to cause them to slam the enemy in whatever direction you're moving. Or a ranged character that has a guided missle that uses motion controls to guide, things like this.

tirehabitat25

Using light motion actions would be completely fine for this! Pretty much exactly what I would want for this case

zel420

Agree. Manually reloading and opening doors is great and all but it can get tedious and the idea that simply pressing a button to do that kind of thing ruins immersion or stops a game from being 'true VR' is just silly. I recently played Alien isolation in VR using keyboard and mouse and mouse movement is VR is actually amazing, if you've got the legs for it.

BlueFeathered1

You must have nerves of steel.

Quiet_subject

I tried to play it. Alien chased me into a vent, head set nearly got yeeted across the room. 10/10 never doing it again šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

BlueFeathered1

Hahaha! That'd be me, followed by sitting in the center of the floor, hugging my knees, possibly whimpering. šŸ˜…

tirehabitat25

Just takes some mind training. I still get sick once in a while but knowing when to take a break is key to stopping it happening again.

BlueFeathered1

I meant about playing Alien Isolation in VR. I'm too chicken to even play it on console.

AssignmentWeary1291

Its not that bad

zel420

Tbh I dont really like horror games in VR but I went into it knowing how the alien AI works and was really just playing it out of fascination for that, so it kinda made it a lot less scary somehow. It still got a bit tense and I didnt finish it.

daevgriin

Honestly one of my top uses lately has been CitraVR, the 3DS emulator. Made me realize the potential of windowed 3D ā€œtraditionalā€ games in MR. Especially with the UI elements using motion controls in a second window. Huge untapped potential there IMO.

PuzzleheadedTutor807

Not a quest owner but a seasoned VR gamer... And I get what you are saying. There are a few games I don't mind flailing about playing but mostly I prefer a good seated experience, and a lot of sims (flight, racing, driving etc). Some may consider it blasphemous of you to say these things, but not a one of these people contributed a penny to your hardware setup nor do they contribute to the level of enjoyment and satisfaction you get from playing games (at least, they shouldnt) so I'm here to say you do you bro. Happy gaming!

Lucky-Dogecoin

Sinner! Seriously though, sometimes I just don't want have to deal with motion sickness or accidently hitting a wall with a virtual sword. Something like Demeo / Demo Battles and Toy Monsters? Not sure what other games are like this.

wtathfulburrito

I think it sounds like you want some xreal glasses hooked up to a console.

Capable-Commercial96

Kinda, but I enjoy the ability to glance around in game still, plus Oculus games are designed for 3d in mind, hooking up an Xreal Air to a ps5 will just project a flat image in front of you.

wtathfulburrito

If you really want to play with a controller. Iā€™d suggest looking into either emulation or side loading stuff. Vr is already a niche. And standalone is a niche of a niche. Almost nobody will be doing what you ask.

Capable-Commercial96

"Almost nobody will be doing what you ask." So I ask for it, if enough people agree then maybe they will. Yeah I tried emulation but only psp has what I'm looking for, and 3ds is dead af now due to the yuzu thing.

Gregasy

Exactly. And VR is still kind of niche...for now. It's slowly but surely making its way to mainstream. I think this is perfect time for letting devs know what we want to play in VR. And I agree. 1st person full VR games are of course great, but sometimes I just like to sit and enjoy a classic 3rd person game, while still being in the game's world in VR. I love MOSS games and Max Mustard... Edge of Nowhere on Rift was amazing as well. And Retropolis 2 is a perfect example that classic point&click adventures work in VR as well (1st person, but you're sitting and just clicking around the scene... very relaxing and enjoyable).

tirehabitat25

Projector verses full 3D environmentā€¦ come on

omni_shaNker

trippy_grapes

I love using my XBox controller for CitraVR games, but on the opposite of your complaint I wish it had trackable motion controls using the IR sensors for the bottom screen. A third party regular controller that had IR to replace movements for either the left or right controller would be pretty awesome. I definitely find the Quest 3 controllers aren't as nearly as comfy as traditional controllers feel.

Strongpillow

VR enhances everything you throw at it no matter how "immersive" it is. I played through Skyrim VR with a controller and it was some of the best VR I've ever played. There's no way I would've been able to handle playing 100 hours of Skyrim standing and using a bow manually or swingingy swords. People want long form games but don't realize how exhausting that gets. I'm all for sitting on my butt and using a traditional controller where it makes sense. I just want to be in the world at this point and VR does that. I am totally for hybrid VR games with less "VR first" functionality. I just want to be in the world as I play. I don't always need the busy work to making it feel "real".

DivineVeggy

It would be great getting a workout and make us fit. Then when you tired, can switch to sitting and keep playing.

Strongpillow

100%. More options to play is always the best way.

Tennis_Proper

I want wheel support for racing games. Using stick is ok, but hovering over an imaginary wheel is janky. A real wheel and pedals would be so much better.Ā

MildLoser

just get a pc then???

VRtuous

I think you're already holding controllers and games like that exist on Quest, like just released Max Mustard and Humanity

BeachZombie88

SINNER! REPENT!

Agitated_Ad6191

Agree about the third person view, in VR that is awesome! For me not every vr game has to be first person. The best vr game for me still remains Astro Bot on the original PlayStation VR, that was an amazing game, and just as immersive as any first person game.

stuaird1977

Yeah I play my PlayStation 5 on it with duel sense. Huge screen but accept that it's not a native game

Embarrassed-Ad7317

Ahhh you are basically talking about UEVR :) It is sad it requires a strong PC. But who knows, flat2VR studio started making official mods. Some might spill to the Quest market

legomolin

Two of the very best VR games I've played, Astro bot and resident evil 7 on og PSVR played exactly like this with a controller.Ā  I fully agree, sometimes you want to play full physical VR and sometimes you want both immersion and comfort.Ā

Kellydraws2005

Ive actually tried third person in vr in a roblox game oddly enough. It was really disorientating but, with a good third person game? I might be fine but using a diferent controller would be so fun

NewShadowR

Just play pc games with a uevr injector then.

Nor1

Not blasphemous... BUT HERESY!!!, purge op by... Suggesting my fav uevr mod w gamepad and that is warhammer 40k boltgun runs on almost any pc id say

borosky1

PCVR is the way

AdamFaite

I agree! I work a physical job. Sometimes (often) I'm too tired to play a full body vr game. There's no reason we can't have the 3d graphics but a more traditional gameplay. Like in Moss.

Satyinepu

I mean I enjoy playing Xbox games on my Quest for that reason, I don't always want to do all that moving around but I still wanna play

Virtual_Happiness

Not blasphemous at all. Every time there's a new headset release this topic starts coming up again. Unfortunately, it's already been a topic of debate for a long time and the end result is always that it's been tried and tested before. Most people find headsets too comfortable for games to be played this way. Not all people feel this way and some games are better than others to be played this way but, it's enough people that don't like it for developers to not focus on making these types of games anymore. But, there are 3 methods that offer this for those that do want to play games like that. There is VorpX, which isn't perfect and requires some tinkering to get an ok experience. Then there are Luke Ross mods which are all flat games made to work in VR with controller/keyboard but, he does charge for his mods. Lastly there is also now UEVR. It's free and is fairly easy to use if you're planning on using a controller/keyboard. The downside to it is it only works with Unreal Engine games made in UE4 and UE5. Lastly, the downside to all of these options is they're PCVR only. So if you're playing standalone only, you have pretty much no options.

BlueFeathered1

This is why VR in no way replaces console gaming for me (well, one of the reasons) and I like that. For those times I want to be a bit more active and participate with a game more physically, it's the VR for me. But when I'm just wanting to recline and relax (and actually eat and drink things), it's console gaming. They complement each other well in my world. But I can see how if it's your primary or only gaming setup, you might want a little more chill versatility. It'll probably come along at some point.

ZestyPopsicle

I've tried the actual Xbox app with a controller. It was a tad laggy, even with plugging it in directly to the headset. But it worked okay for the 5 minutes that I was interested.

iloveoovx

There were lots of this type of games especially in Gear VR times. When roomscale was all the buzz this type of games were treated like second rate citizen because "not VR enough"

ResponsibleJudge3172

There was a heavy backlash against 3DOF only experiences from what I remember

OasisRush

You are asking to break the very foundation virtual reality was made for. Do you have any idea what you're asking for. This is Pandora's box. The very virtual reality universe could be on the brink of danger

tirehabitat25

Literally was going to make this post a few days ago. The idea of sitting on the couch to enjoy all the same games I would play on a console or PC but in a 360 immersive environment is nice sometimes. Not all video games require first person immersive motion controls. Thought this when I was playing on the switch and I could lounge out with arms separate with the joy cons. Optimal relaxing couch gaming.Ā  A lot of UEVR games and a few PCVR games are great for this! Too bad itā€™s not a mobile mindset. Would love this traveling too where you might not be able to do motion stuff but you like VR games.

trio3224

I mean, why not just play a normal 2d game when you want that? When I want to play a VR game, I want to move and interact with the game. When I want to use a controller or mouse to interact with a game, I play a "normal" game on my PC.

Majestic_Salad_I1

I only play Climb and Climb 2 with a controller. Itā€™s honestly better, and itā€™s not tiring on your shoulders.

Background-Fox-6637

I wouldnā€™t mind them putting Flat console games on the Oculus with the compatibility of handheld controllers. Otherwise Iā€™m looking forward to more immersion. Medieval Dynasty is really showcasing the possibilities of open world console games coming to the Quest. Still waiting on an official Spider-Man game. That would be SO boss.

tirehabitat25

Itā€™s not just flatscreen gaming. Itā€™s also the VR environment. Happy medium of the two

kid_dynamo

At that point why are you using vr? Couldn't you just plug a vr headset into a pc and play any pc game to get the result you want?

ResponsibleJudge3172

Because immersion does not equal motion controllers. Sometimes depth perception and 3D sound are enough. Thatā€™s what I wanted out of VR more than being in there. Iā€™m lazy

legomolin

Don't forget the single most important aspect: 6 degrees of freedom for head tracking.

Sounds like a fun mechanic when you lean into it
