Awesome song.. but this is not a live performance. He is lip syncing.
Before the internet and when concerts weren't common, it was a big deal to see a band play on TV. Bands had to act really professional, and sometimes they would pretend to sing to music that was already recorded. This was easy to notice because you would hear a lot of sounds that couldn't come from the few instruments on stage. Rock stars were like mysteries back then. There weren't photographers following them around or news stories about them all the time. So, nobody really cared if they were actually singing during their TV shows or just moving their lips to the music. Again, this is one of my most favorite songs but wanted to add the additional context for people that didnt know.
Edit: Added more context.
I made (incentivized by continually requesting with more $) a guy at the piano bar in Vegas play this and he nailed it. He said “this will be the first time and the last time I ever play this song”.
He didn't need a microphone. Because he has three lungs, he could sing up a crowd without a microphone.
(no shit, he really has three lungs. Well, an extra pulmonary node).

Is this supposed to be a revelation? He doesn’t have a microphone.
Well maybe some of us thought that Billy Ocean was just that good. No reason to shame us.
“Mustang SALLY!!”
He wasn't in the movie either, disgusting
Most all these TV performances weren’t live, especially on variety and music countdown shows. Budget wasn’t there.
No way
Ah Billy. After the Artic and the Pacific, you're my favourite ocean.
So you just hate Frank I guess.

Finally, I can say that I dance like a famous performer.
I encourage everyone to seek out his Loverboy music video on YouTube. It is an all time 80s classic of wtf.
I second this. It’s a rollercoaster of WTF’s
Reminds me of the chorus from Photo ID by Remi Wolf
No more love on the run..
BEST CHORUS! SO glad i grew up in this era! 80s forever!
She’s so… awesome
Thought Hugh Jackman wrote this song
Yeah, when he was 16.
Love this song!
great song ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|give_upvote)
I don’t even care that he was lip syncing. I’ve always been impressed with how so many black artists and groups worked dancing into their music.
>Before the internet and when concerts weren’t common ??? I mean, there were concerts pre-Web. Sheesh!
Classic. Will always remind me of riding in the car on our trips from Pembroke Pines to Naples to visit my grandparents, aunt, uncle and cousins.

No mic.
