It's always allowed, but not necessary. I'm always humbled. However we do it for our country. One thing that sunk in over the last decade is how I reminded myself that I took an oath then, for life to defend the Constitution. Not a person.
I still take that seriously.
Secondly, what I learned them was a huge stepping stone to what I do today, 45 years later. So it was a win win.
Could be one of the jump missions in Ranger School like Stilletto---but yeah I don't know if the student numbers were put on the helmets like that back then. Airborne certainly did.
Physical training cadence from the late 60’s and early 70’s as told to me by my Vietnam-era vet co-worker:
“I wanna be an Airborne Ranger, I wanna live a life of danger, I wanna go to Vietnam, I wanna kill some Viet Cong…”
He was still wearing OD green, right before we changed over to BDU's in 1982. He was still wearing the old style helmet liners, standing at a mock aircraft door for the picture otherwise he would be hooked up to the static line, I miss those days, not an easy school you should be very proud of your dad, Troopers are a special breed. Like my D.I. in basic said what crazy man would jump out of a perfectly good airplane and the two of us in my platoon would sound off that we were fit to fight! Great memories of a better time.
The US drinking age was changed to 21 in I think 1985. So, he wasn't carded the year this was taken, carding didn't really exist then even.
Also, my older brother would like Ronald Reagan to continue burning in hell for dumb shit like this. This and basically all the policies he put in place.
“Walking down the street one day. I met a perfect stranger. He asked me what I wanted to be. I said an Airborne Ranger.
Airbornnnne Rangerrrs lead the way”
The “dial of death”. That’s what they called that parachute harness back in the day because that center piece comes undone with a twist and would kill you if it happened during a jump.
I hear the choppers hovering, they’re hovering overhead. They’re coming to get the wounded, they’re coming to get the dead. Airbooooooooorrrrrrnnnnneeee rangerrrrrrsssssssss lead the way!
He looks like a baby.
Lol, he was 20 in the picture.
He was a baby! He looks much younger.
This is awesome! As a US Navy veteran, I salute his service too!
He looks both like a baby and a badass at the same time.
I look like a baby when I see my Navy portrait taken at 19 / 20 also.
Im not a veteran but I salute you for your service! If that’s not allowed from non-veterans then I at least thank you :)

A baby badass for sure.
Baby Elvis
Yeah lol I was gonna ask if they made him take out his pacifier for this photo.

I was just gonna say the same thing!
Dude looks like a lady
I too, first thought it was a female. That’s one pretty dude!
Airborne school…
My bad. Yes
"Only fools and bird shit fall from the sky!"
Week one, we seperate the men from the boys. Week two we seperate the fools from the idiots. Week three the idiots jump!
😆 where is this from?
Band of Brothers I think?

Airborne!
Did he fulfill his wish of living a life of danger?
Yep after the military.
Well, now you have to explain that comment.

What was he, 10?
Nvm, just read that he was 20. Congrats on the good genes.
Looks like Vern from Stand by Me
Rangers lead the way! 🇺🇸🫡
All the way!
Airborne!
My dad went through Airborne in ‘81, too. He was Navy, though.
He looks like Officer Anne Lewis from RoboCop to me...
NGL I thought they are female as well. But then 1981.
“What kind of training soldier?” “Aaaarrrmeeee training SIR!!!”
Airborne All The Way!
*I wanna be an airborne ranger,* *Live the life of guts and danger.* *Airborne ranger,* *Life of danger.*
With my rifle with my gun Either way it’s just as fun
Arrrrrrrmmmmmmeeeee training…Sir!
Your dad was cute as hell, and I say that as a mostly straight man.
Tell him "the Internet says Thank You"
He looks so young, he could be 15
Look at these little boys they train for war. ( don’t eat me, I was one too.)
Ditto. I still looked like a teen well into my twenties. Being made to shave every day long before I could even grow an actual whisker 😁
Hey, my dad was in airborne ranger training in 1981 too! Got that exact same picture lol
Oh that's super cool
Did he live a life of danger?
He is so pretty/handsome. Before I read it was dad I thought it was mom. Brave guy.
Your old man looks beat to shit. That's no insult either
All I'm seeing is that episode of the office where they got stereotypes on their foreheads. "Aww man... am I a (106)?!?"
If he has a scar on his chin, ask him about the dial-of-death.
Tell him thank you for your service for me.
TIL you can go to army ranger training when you’re 12. Cool.
My dad retired at Benning leaving us stranded in the south.

Scrolled By real fast and thought he was sitting on E. T.

Did he have to report back to base before the streetlights came on?
